I just had a couple things to say about Prop 8.

I've been hearing from a lot of people who are so deadset on getting this proposition passed, yet they have no clue what the actual facts are. They just quote the Bible, or even worse, the propaganda that the Yes on 8 campaign has been spreading. I think it's fine if you don't agree with gay marriage for personal or religious reasons, but you're really willing to take away thousands of people's rights by ammending the constitution?

Let me clear a few things up. These ads that everyone has been seeing on tv supporting Prop.8 are lies. They quote a case in Massachusetts, in which a parent unsuccessfully tried to sue their child's school when they "taught" about gay marriage, however, it is completely irrelevant in California. California already has laws in place that allow parents to opt their kids out of any family or health teachings that they don't agree with (I know.. I went to public school). The Yes on 8 campaign knows this, however they still use that in their commercials to try to sway voters... and as stupid and unwilling to find the facts for themselves as most people are, it's working.

They also state that churches will lose their tax exemption. Again, a lie. When the gay marriage ban was overturned, the supreme court made sure that it would not affect churches. Churches won't be forced to marry same-sex couples.. and if they refuse, they can not be sued for discrimination.

But beside all that, Prop. 8 will take away rights. It's unconstitutional for the government to treat one group differently because of their sexual oreintation. If you look back in your history books, you'll see that not so long ago, it was also illegal for interracial couples to marry. Obviously most people think that's wrong now, but what's the difference? You can say "well same-sex couples can have civil unions instead of marriage", but that's the same type of thinking that composed the "seperate but equal" doctrine that kept black and white children in seperate schools..

Please read the facts for yourself.. don't let propaganda fool you.
