I just want to clear this up once and for all.

A DJ, (disc jockey,) is someone who reproduces sound from pre-recorded audio sources. The key word here is "disc." Sometimes a DJ simply chooses and replays songs as in a radio DJ.  Other times, a DJ will use turn tables, (or special CD players,) to blend songs and sounds together to make a new song as in remixing, a.k.a. club music.

What I do is called front of house, (FOH,) mixing, a.k.a. sound reinforcement,  Call me a sound tech., sound man, or sound guy, but, not DJ.  The key to how a sound tech. differs from a DJ is in the difference of the words reproduce and reinforce.  A sound tech. takes multiple live sources, such as guitars, drums, vocals, or any other live sounds that need to be heard at a concert and blends them all together. This blend, or "mix", is then amplified and passed through loud speakers, sometimes referred to as a public address system, for your listening pleasure.

In summary, without sound reinforcement large shows, of any kind, would not be possible.  Without a DJ, radio and house music would not be possible.

As a side note, there is also a difference between live FOH technicians and studio recording technicians.
