Holworks Music Rogue Poet and the ePod Band

Wednesday 28/10/2009
I am really looking forward to tonight at the Fig Cafe. I hope to play quite a few of my songs. I am also really excited about Saturday and playing on 91.9 FM WFSS. That is a dream come true for the second time in my life. Show starts at 4pm. Hope you can listen in either bu Internet or local radio. That would be cool!

Guess this blog is long overdue as I have written so many different kinds of songs since my last real post. I think I may have a song for just about anybody though I am limited as to how many I can post on Myspace. That's ok, with the ten I have up here, I am sure you can get the idea of my porch songs.

Wow, is all I can say - my second anniversary in music came and went as did my b-day in October. I have a bunch of songs, a few friends and fans, but no luck with convincing anyone close to me who can play music to do so on these songs. I have a tentative arrangement with a local band. I hope that might pan out but I doubt it as I do believe I have too many different kinds of songs that might be a turn-off to their style, i.e. Slipper, Meet Me on Facebook, etc. I may have to find one of those CBS Talk Show bands to be able to incorporate the diversity, . . .of course I can always write and sing in one genre, like Southern Rock, or Country, . .money would change everything.

So where is my trust fund groupie? You have magic in your heart to satiate dreams? Thought I would ask anyway as that is as improbable as landing a recording contract. Guess they will come when the time is right. The time will be right when I can play and record well enough to cause all my friends to start talking. There are whispers now, exchanges I can't quite hear but the subject shifts very quickly as I have not enough news to generate longevity in conversation. That's cool - I never expected anyone to like one song I wrote. I am just glad everyone knows that I can and do write songs they have never heard in a manner that is untrained, undisciplined, and nebulous at times. Does that make it special?

When you know and you know you know, confidence replaces fear. Well I know just enough to nervous now. Before it didn't matter that I did not know how. As I have learned, the how part is extremely deep, complex, and a barrier to entry for almost anyone who is poor. Poor people can't have dreams like mine. The dreams and the lifestyle do not fit - hence my new song Someday Isle. It is all rubbish anyway, these thoughts that randomly expose themselves to my consciousness. Toss them out the window and I may find myself happy. Since I can't toss them away, I am unsettled in all aspects of my life as if I am working towards something that has huge potential but will need a fantastic stroke of luck to achieve any of it.

Guess that is enough for now - I want to write some PR stuff for my songs and albums so you can read it. . . . All the best from NC - God Bless all who traverse this page.

Hi MySpace!!!

Higher Order Language Works started out as an idea to protect the songs I had written from theft and possibly record them in a studio to radio quality, I am WORD. Holworks Music was established as a Publishing Company on January 1st, 2008 to develop a catalog of songs from some of Fayetteville, NC's local musicians, provide the Public with original global music, and secure copyright.

Holworks Music Mission Statement
- To enamor flavor starved ears with unique wholesome original music to be enjoyed for a lifetime.

Holworks Music
- There's nothing like it.
I am WORD trying to create timeless music straight from a crayon keyboard, homegrown, not carefully crafted in a Hit Factory. I do not know how to record yet to the quality I hear, nor play at the level I desire. Some of the songs such as Blue Opal, Just When I Thought, These Eyes For You, and Raise Your Arms were recorded at Digital Waves Recording Studios by Andy Pow as a walk in play whatever comes to mind and mixed to the outcome you hear. Little did I know they were good enough to receive air play and allow me entrance into ASCAP. My goal to give listeners the opportunity to preview unique music straight from Fayetteville, North Carolina.

Holworks Music
- The Skinny - Examples of me writing and singing words to other people's music, examples of me writing playing and singing everything, and examples of carefully planned song construction as bona fide collaborations. These songs are not supposed to be according to the perceptual laws of dues as many may feel I have not paid them yet songs continue to manifest in a quality that is tolerable. I believe there are people who enjoy the different as evidenced by the requests so I continue to listen to possibility. Maybe, I'll settle on a style once it is an official recording studio with skilled musicians - how long will that be? Who knows? Until then, I listen to my soul speak while infecting others with Higher Order Language, . . .the dance of a spider.

"It takes all kinds - I am one of them since October 2007. Someone told me that all I had to do was to get people to listen to my song three times and that would be all it would take for me to rattle around in there. Ha! It's just me, WORD, with an unique way of looking at common ancient things. Affixing syllables to notes is my talent. Singing those syllables in a unique way is also my talent, Harbor Horn. That's debatable as I have heard (or not heard) a variety of things especially from those closest to me. Like I said, it takes all kinds and I am one of them. Music is fun, . . .so what is it about original music that causes such a stir? You who catch the meaning of that statement make me laugh, . . .write your own songs and please let me listen.

My favorite venues include mental institutions, living room dog pounds, and libraries on Monday evenings. I hope to move up to Zoos, Aquariums, and Theme parks by the end of the year. What?
Some have told me I write melodic, rock variant music with roots in Country, Blues, and Southern Rock. I have made quite a few songs with folks from around the World. The quality of sound is Home Grown lo-fi not Hi-fi so the NOT category is more than expected, like it or NOT. I remember the first time I heard Neil Young sing. You will certainly get the feeling of the song from what I have here. Maybe you might forget the 3 to 4 minutes you spent listening and enjoy something never heard before by your flavor starved ears. That makes it all worthwhile to me until I can overcome potential that is a Nova Sun. Still, I am amazed at what is being delivered to me in the form of song. Just a lifetime of experience to cull and corral into melody. Who knew what treasure is in a rock? I am a Rock Head. It is not until you break it open to reveal the brilliance and unparalleled luster that is blinding yet comforting all in an instant. Trace is evolving or should I say materializing like the face in the wood carved meticulously into the trunk outside in, while having fun with air games. Little steps are my snow poles to remind me where my mailbox is, . . .Dream big or stay at home. Think big, profess it, and you will lose sleep, friends and family to the Grey void. I choose to dream and think universal with my gums flapping. That way I can maintain an insanity defense, or pretend that Carolina Commons, Splash, and a Collaborations album are finished as my present skill warrants, good, bad, and pitchy. Trace is close. Now they are sitting on an ASCAP shelf until we meet - wherever you are or should I say whoever you are. What a waist, hers is a wasps'. . .She Chose Me, this Music Muse. Shhhhhhhh, don't tell anyone. I already did and look where it landed me good, bad, and pitchy, one take One Ders when Dave asks, will someone switch the channel to that Higher Order Language guy? My hippocampus is infected with his imp Melody...who is Dave? Thanks to any and all who listen to my songs as I am simply a conduit providing to YOU that which was given to me " - Mark Holman

Carolina Commons - This is the album I pledged to myself that I would write as a life goal, the impossible, you cannot do that goal. Life on the Commons, growing up in Fayetteville, NC capturing the Events, Places, and People sparkling like jewels in content and metaphor. Little did I know that creative process would lead to two more albums Splash and Trace, produce several thousand comments from all across the Internet, and create a core of supporters. This is unexpected yet provides a clear justifiable process for music creation.

Splash - The second album - wow what does Splash suggest? Here I am - In whatever form your brain will allow. Is it the result of a thirty foot plunge into a deep pool? Is it a news worthy story? Is it a fall leaf walk where nature paints in hues that amaze our eyes? Is it the the lime sprinkle in a tequila drink sitting on a table next to a bustling cabana? Is it the interstitial thought process that adorns creativity like a big blue sash of an ostrich feather? Ha! She Chose me, this music muse. I am simply recording it as it happens. Splash!!!

Trace - The third album - No Trace does not mean three though many confuse it with the spanish number. Guess there is a play on words there but it is unintentional as this album is all about the rare, the unexpected treasure that is all around us. Folly, overindulgence, or bountiful misgivings may be the carryover of pragmatism, I don't know. I do know that the rare, unique, or special is a trace as is the imprint of passage, the backwash of emotion. and talent to do extraordinary things.
Thanks for listening to the Works of Higher Order Language!

Meeting People Who Like My Music
Wow, Cinco de Mayo and I am sitting here in front of my computer typing this blog wondering what in the world I am doing. Like it or not, here is my soul. I am reaching out to more and more folks to ask them to listen to these homegrown simple songs that may actually hurt their ears should they be unaccustomed to hearing a Harbor Horn. Still, I must as it is the music that needs to find those who do enjoy something outside the box. I cannot stand in the genre gap because I am not MUSIC. After three attempts to organize MUSIC, I still fall short of that goal. This is unexpected to me as I know what I hear yet am unable to achieve it by myself. A close facsimilie is just that - a shadow of what should be. I am trapped in the ePod until I can find the people to make true iPod sound. I guess that is how it is to be born poor in America. There are so many obstacles to prevent self-actualization. Dreamers die broke, unloved, and underappreciated, don't they?

Here it is - I keep writing songs, . . .Clock Hands, It's Time To Leave, What You Wanted, Star Dancing Pasadoble, Sweet Thoughts of You, First Chance to Dance, She Chose Me, Carnival Cruise Samba, and Scheming Going On pressed their way through the din during the last three weeks. This is also unexpected to me. After a year of getting up on stage in the various Open Mics hosted at various venues in Fayetteville and Hope Mills, I thought I would join up with people who recognize this music as just an idea. The real music is not a sequenced partition of unrealistic drum patterns or fake bass lines. Nope, the music has to be played by people who can do it, not me. I have my hands full or should I say ears full to try to keep up with the words issuing forth like a Swift Water creek.

Carolina Commons - This is the album I pledged to myself that I would write as a life goal. Little did I know that creative process would lead to two more albums Splash and Trace. This is unexpected - just ask anyone in my family - they'll tell you that I am not supposed to be able to make one song that someone else would like let alone 40 plus songs that have been fairly well received despite the hokey keyboard parts. Nope, I cannot sing. All my family will tell you that. So will many other people. I understand that I am not for everyone. I still have to learn how to sing. Did a Vocal Instructor always know how to sing properly? Nope, they had to learn that. I sing in pitch for the most part. That's good enough for me as the words tell me how to sing them. YOU have to tell me if you like it or not. The bar raises as I learn.

Splash!!!

Trace - The third album - Okay, this is not supposed to happen, a third album. I still have to finish my Science Fantasy novel, another unrealised life goal. What am I thinking? Ask my Owner. No Trace does not mean three though many confuse it with the spanish number. Guess there is a play on words there but it is unintentional as this album is all about the rare, the unexpected treasure that is all around us. Folly, overindulgence, or bountiful misgivings may be the carryover of pragmatism, I don't know. I do know that the rare, unique, or special is a trace.

Who knows what the future has in store. I am getting attention for sure both good and bad. Small minded people, though I love them sit comfortably in their roll back lazy chair to ferret out anyone who is different. My music makes me different. There is nothing like it. Wouldn't it be easier just to play music someone else wrote? Sure, where is the fun in that? Sure I can change it to make it more to my personality, but why? I have enough music in me that allows me to have fun creating. That may not be the norm but other people do it too.

So I am in a holding pattern until this meeting occurs. What meeting is that you ask? Thanks for asking, the meeting is when I attract the correct people. They are out there somewhere waiting for someone like me to emerge from the haze. It is you out there listening. It is the unrealized potential, a Nova Sun sitting on top of a platinum lining that has been there all my life, yet is wrapped in shielding that I am unable to penetrate because of environmental, socioeconomic, and sanity plexiglass layers. I need a hammer and some help - psychiatric - maybe a chemical straightjacket would keep the delusional thinking at bay or promote it.

Welcome to the real world Mark.

Alright Holworks Music is playing Jester's Pub again this Thursday night, January 22, 2009

Last week, 9 songs from the Holworks Music catalog, some new, some old filled the air. All were well received despite the no band yet band sound. How cool is it to have people doing the SPider Dance right in front of you? That was a good feeling.

It is with great anticipation Mark returns to the stage at Jester's Pub. "Though I do not play metal or hard rock, I do have borderline songs that would be perceived that way with a guitar player of that genre. It truly is awesome for someone used to playing out of a small amp to feel the power of a true sound system. There is no comparison to that feeling.

Mike and Staff are awesome. Chaos can set you up in minutes and balance the sound very quickly as well. I would like to extend a personal invitation to all who read this to visit.

Listen to my songs here. Tell me your favorite.

The Price I Pay For Music
How do I describe these feelings I have as I try to investigate the expense music has “cost” me over this past year. It is with much chagrin I type this portion, as I would not have believed it fully should someone have told me. There is very little I can do about attitude. Music is so subjective yet originality is buried for the most part where I dwell. I cannot change how people perceive. Is It Good Enough? I can only share my soul through song. I can only play what my fingers allow. I can only sing in the voice I possess. I can only write what the music portrays. I can only give what I can translate. I can only deliver what I feel.
Thanks Ben - I should have realized that the big world does shift a fraction to envelope the cause in sound that has materialized in the remotest of places, almost totally undiscovered like the Artist whose sonic ripples threaten to engulf mainstream Music as we know it. Here, or there or somewhere in between will only be a journey that will accept or deny the influx of the unknown. There are currents undeniably a river of sorts that twists in unison parallel in its unending travel to somewhere else attached and living it may clean or stain as it becomes saturated with sediment. So too are the parallel emotions that are also currents that threaten to envelope all that is clear conscious insipid in the tangling way its embrace fulfills the pattern of confinement. As Rock emotes the heavy speaker, there are melodies that stretch and bend with the tonal enunciation of a Harbor Horn.

Greasy G says

You have an excentric sound. VERY catchy. One I think people may not expect. Much enjoyed!! Greasy G vote approved!!

Soma Star says - Voted for you too - Your voice has a Brian Ferry vibe - fun to listen to your stuff. thnaks again for the support! - Soma Star Posted on October 16

Kris Hansens Left Hand Band says - You write good songs...you have a strong voice. I know you've said this music is unproduced. I think the tunes would serve you better at this point to do them acoustic. Let the guitar and voice lead the dynamics and save the production for when you've saved a bit of scratch and are ready to go into a studio. as far as the mix for the three of these songs, your voice is drowning out the rest of the instruments, which isn't bad considering I would love to hear you do these acoustic. Listen, for what you done here...it's good. I see you doing better! Posted on October 16

Funkenstein JR AKA CountFUNKULAfied says - Music is a picture of your soul and music is a universal language. Keep doing what you do. It is the message behind the message that counts. Peace to you and you got my vote. Posted on October 15

2XCRU says - Thanks from Appalachia!!!Left you one! You are deeply skilled.

Lane Parnell says - Thanks for the comment friend. I do love your songs, you are very talented. It takes a special gift to turn feelings and thoughts into song, and you have that covered. So many artists on this site are so incredibly talented. I am enthused to be a part of such a positive fellowship of artists. Im glad you like my songs although I am no singer, I just love to write and create...
Thanks again! Lane - Posted on October 15

Balls Deep n' Your Girl says - No problem for the review. Its a sign of a great man, with balance who can take a constructive critique and use it to his advantage. Ol' balls is thinking you're a solid guy as a boss, worker, friend, father and if the fucking nightmare has struck you too (5 ex's here.) and... LOL husband.... you got man size...

Soulafide says - Greetings & Respect, just read your blog- I dig your delivery, smooth & gliding over on Just When I Thought, really sweet tone, great vibe, keep doin it man! Balls Deep n' Your Girl saysBAND=Holworks ***** SONG=Just When I Thought OK man you asked, So YOU GOT BALLS..../ Chris Issak influence there is a seed of an idea here. Pretty good for a 1st try. Just up your game w/the writing & production... make the songs go somewhere w/the chorus folks... All verse no Chorus here... again not bad for a 1st attempt, not ready for a national contest but its an ok try... Pro Tools for 300 buks these days, gets you a lot... you got balls for asking for professional input and that is the way to "Make It" HERE... you had balls. Posted on October 11

Fatal Cry says thanks for the comment man, means alot. youve got some really deep music its really captureing. got my daily vote -tim

Breton Parks says Thanks a lot. I appreciate you coming by and listening. I caught myself singing "just when it thought" after i listened to it. It has a nice groove. I voted for. I see you are near the top, keep it up. Good luck and thanks
Lugosi's Morphine says - Thanks so much for the comment! We do get down to NC for Heavy Rebel Weekender. It's a rockabilly fest w- car show all weekend for 4th of July every year. If we play there next year I'll let you know. If you want keep in touch we are on myspace.com/lugosismorphine too. Take Scare! We dig your kinda music. It's very relaxing actually. Do you have a cd out?
~Lugosi's Morphine

James Drive says - Hey Mark, great stuff. How about some more.

Peter Derek says - Thanks for the critique man. I get all kinds of comparisons to other artists. I take at as a good thing when they can't pigeonhole ya. As for liking or hating, I've learned if everybody likes you, you're doin something wrong. As for you, I gotta go with Cohen, which is a damn good thing! Your guitar has some mean ass bends on "No Time". Some people might tell you to turn the amp up to eleven but I like the rootsy juke joint feel. It's not about volume but I think you already know that. Keep doin your thing and good luck!

WorMusicNation (wormajor on MN) says thanx for listening and commenting! other musicians reviews are priceless... honest critique always appriciated. here's a vote and some love. and my opinion: voice is nice, reminds me of Crash test Dummies or type-O-negative, or perhaps Leonard Cohen with better vocal chords. as for improvement, i would suggest more powerful guitars... other than that, keep it up! thanx again! Rock Out! ---B

Vitaly Nurk says .. review..well... I have listened to all your songs.. I am impressed deeply by your music.. it's very cool...)) very melodic, very hamonic arrangements.. But I can't say anything about words, sorry.. Thanks

Holworks Plays Jester’s Pub – January 8, 2009 – Fayetteville, NC - Mark Holman takes center stage with a fistful of Carolina Commons songs.
Break out the song sheets as Mark Holman of Holworks, the Rogue Poet and the ePod Band take center stage at Jester’s Pub in Fayetteville, NC. Jester’s Pub is Fayetteville’s premiere Rock Club. Playing there through an invitation, Mark says, “What an unexpected treat for me to play at Jester’s Pub. It is massive inside another Open format that can accommodate quite a few people. I met Mike the owner. We talked for a while about my songs and me coming over to play. I knew my voice would have immediate impact as it is completely different than what folks are used to hearing and I had a Harmonizer with me that I had not used before in Public. I am unexpected. My songs are easy for me to play on the keyboard but difficult for guitar players especially lead players because I use a lot of minor chords. I sing words in a manner people are unaccustomed to hearing with uncommon words expressed in a common dialect. Jester’s Pub was a perfect outlet for most of my songs as they are Rock variant. The most thrilling part about it was a group of young soldiers moving up to get a better view. Azure Sky caught their attention. I played 12 songs in an hour and fifteen minutes mixing up the rock with country, pop, and dance. When I finished, I handed out CDs, promised to return and watched the next set of performers.”

That is what makes Mark unique and why he is starting to get noticed by people in Fayetteville for his unique writing skills, deep baritone vocals, and messages about life growing up in North Carolina. The album he has written, Carolina Commons outlines a myriad of possibilities of the heart and the biting nature of issues confronting everyone in his community. Mark portrays Life on the Commons as seen through the eyes of an insightful man. Make no mistake about it, that when you talk to Mark, he will downplay his immense songwriting talent. That is a refreshing trait as many are not like that at all. His goal is to get played on terrestrial radio. He wants to hear his songs coming through the squawk box just like all the music he listened to growing up. Maybe it is time for music such as Mark composes,...time and marketing will tell.
Mark’s set consisted of the following songs:
• Azure Sky
• Carolina Commons
• Brown Goddess
• There’s a Chance
• The Aftermath
• Rainbow to Your Heart
• For Our Soldiers
• Raise Your Arms
• Swift Water
• Spider Dance
• Just When I Thought
• Can You Hear Me Now?

Mark continues, “Jester’s staff works with rock bands all the time. To have an owner of a club ask me to play is a particularly great compliment. To know other people are listening to my music is awesome. Mike has seen it all through the years. To think of me, well that is welcome and unexpected. Jester's Pub has so much equipment that I was amazed with it all. It is a complex grid with hundreds of cables linking equipment all across their huge stage. A guy name Chaos was going through it all to provide optimum sound and WHAT SOUND. Man oh man, I felt like I was playing in a stadium. Imagine that. It was a choice experience that I shall not soon forget. Such is the life of a late blooming Minstrel trying to do the impossible in music. I have fun coloring air with my ePod Keyboard.”

Category: Life

Because I like creating something from nothing. I am keeping notes of everything that transpires in this effort. Most of it, I have posted on several blogs scattered across the Internet. I am doing this as an experiment in dreams. Yep, I know that is a weird concept but I really believe a dream is a reflection of the subconscious mind analyzing and anchoring possibility. This makes me stand outside what people think or say in terms of their perception of impossibility. ..:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

The task of integrating so many elements so that the result is quite unique turns me on. I love delivering. Last night, I had a very close friend ask me why was I pursuing a music career.

There was a bit of disassociation in his eyes possibly due to his pragmatic outlook towards music and how much my approach means to me. I looked him in the eye and said, "I have no expectations in music. It is impossible for me to have written one song. It is impossible that I have written a full album. It is impossible that I am almost done with the second album."

I continued to explain, "I have no expectations in music but I do have plans. Those plans include all of the steps necessary to just GET IN THE GAME. Consider your participation in the Lottery. Why do you buy a ticket? Is it to have a chance to win? What do I write and sing about in There's a Chance? You cannot win if you have no ticket. In music, you cannot win unless you have songs, and an extension, those songs must be impeccable to win. Still, that is no guarantee as there are possibly thousands of stellar songs that have never been heard. I can truthfully say that almost all of my songs have been heard by someone other than myself, a global audience."

This is how it is, a recalcitrant songwriter with melody in his soul yearning to marry some syllable uttered from my lips in song. How do I describe that to anyone? Guess I just did. Other than that I have no expectations other than to ensure that whatever I write is protected and remains in my possession as intellectual property with all the appropriate copyrights.

The Imaginary Band Holworks, Mark Holman, Plays the Cape Fear Songwriter's Guild Showcase 12/10 at Paddy's Irish Pub with stirring renditions of Just When I Thought, Blue Opal, Raise Your Arms, and Brown Goddess.

Holworks - Fayetteville, NC - December 10, 2008 - The Opening Act, Mark Holman, the Rogue Poet and his ePod Band once again take to the stage to support the Cape Fear Songwriter's Guild. Mark is an American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers, ASCAP Artist and Publisher. Other members of the Guild followed Mark with Paddy and Bill completing the evening. It was a sterling Showcase of the talented folks that live in and around Fayetteville.

Playing a four song set Mark begins the night with Just When I Thought, a song from his first album Carolina Commons, to get things moving. A strong song at the beginning sort of conditions the audience for the material to come. Just When I Thought was that and more. Anyone who listened will not soon forget that song.

" I really wanted to do my three new songs that I have written in the last month for my new album Splash, but I didn't think I would be able to get through the word challenge of Can You Hear Me Now, or stop the sequence at a good natural place in We're Going Green This Christmas as the sequence I have on my keyboard is over 5 minutes long. That is a little too long so I had to make the decision not to play it. The last one, Azure Sky is still too new in my head. I have not practiced it enough to be fluent. I will get there though despite the two key changes in that song. Regardless, I selected Blue Opal next as that song is just plain fun for me to play. I like how my fingers slide through the chords in a stringed environment. This song is definitely a turn your head kind of song as I have an opening cliche and an unknown comparison to get people thinking about the story to come. I like that contrast. Speaking of contrast, Raise Your Arms was next. I prefaced it a little by telling how the song related to what all of us experience. I cannot wait to hear what this song will sound like with a full band in a true reggae style as that is how I hear it. Finally, I did my new Rock version of Brown Goddess instead of the old Hip Hop way I had been performing this song. All in all, I have made significant strides."

Mark continues, "I play original music only at this time. This means my songs have to compete against every song that has ever been on the radio. That is OK, I accept the challenge of making songs that can live forever. My big push is to allow as many local people as possible to hear songs from my first album Carolina Commons. I have the rudiments of an Internet following through the songs I have recorded and placed on various sites for people to listen to. This is good as it will give me a base of people who are receptive to my music be it my voice, words, or keyboards arrangements. I have had comments about all three. I still have a long way to go with the performance end of things. I will be experimenting over the next few weeks to see what additions I can manifest into my "act"."

A special thanks goes out to the Cape Fear Songwriter's Guild for organizing an event like this and allowing songwriters like Mark to perform their original music. It is a unique opportunity especially for those like Mark who only play original music and do not perform much in Public.

These Eyes For You by Holworks

Sometimes a ballad is about the only way to really communicate a strong swell of emotion. Using the strength of harmonies and melodic verse, the musicians helping Mark Holman capture the essence of a first encounter, a moment where two parties are to meet and venture together or alone into the future. These Eyes for You is a poignant reminder of just how powerful chemistry can be in just one instant. Love at first sight?

These Eyes for You is another Music Nation first for Mark Holman and Holworks. Carolina Commons, the album is written, though many of the songs have not been recorded. Mark elaborates, "These Eyes for You is a poem I wrote in 1991 about the only woman who ever made my head turn until it hurt. This was my attempt to bridge the gap. We played a version of this song a long time ago in a band called Swift Water. One of our early outings led me to this inspirational woman whom I'll never forget as obviously she now has a song about her."

Mark continues, "My songs are taking on new life as Bob, Ricky, and Dion digest them, and make them come together with enhanced musical embellishments. Such is the case with this song These Eyes for You. This is all I could expect as I feel these songs are now starting to inspire them to do things they have never done before?"

You'll hear These Eyes For You soon.

Hats off again to Bob for arranging all the harmony parts. Ricky, nice playing on lead yet once again. Dion, you have a beautiful tenor voice. It was such a great feeling for me driving home last night knowing I finally have These Eyes For You in band format. I never sang this song before in public as Michelle did most of the singing way back when in Swift Water. It feels wonderful to have a respectable version recorded.

Michelle, Brad, David, PH, and Tom, I have kept this dream alive for more years than I can count. Though you are not with me in the recording studio, I do think about those days and how difficult everything was for us. Yet despite all that, we were willing to step outside the box and create our own special music. I honor you for those days as you allowed me to generate some of my best songs through inspiration during that time.

A lot has transpired since. More will transpire after but know this, I will finish Carolina Commons before I die.

More later. . . .Mark Holman - Holworks

Holworks - Higher Order Language

Step back in time or fast forward to the future, These Eyes for You is a tribute to how music was and shall be made again as skill, composition, and arrangement enables a band to develop songs that are timeless. Expressive cascading melodies, layered voices, and distinct penetrating arrangements convey the emotionally charged message lazerlike straight through blockcaded communication barriers until it adheres to the subconscious like epoxy resin.

Andy Pow - Sound Engineer - Digital Waves Recordings
Bob DuRocher - Bass, Baritone Harmony, Harmony Arrangements
Dion Thigpen - Percussion, Tenor Harmony
Ricky Sparks - Lead Guitar, Rhythm Guitar
Mark Holman - Lead Vocals, Bass Harmony, Keyboards

Soul stirring, heart tugging, and emotion laden, These Eyes for You is the ultimate pick up line. It is the direct connect, the I am so lucky feeling that occurs when two people instantly match with one glance. When does that glance change into something that will last years? Is there receptivity? Will there be a period of discomfort, or will the enveloping where have you been all my life feeling surround the heart in a perfect impeccable comforter of love?

Holworks captures these interludes with precision and expressive cohesion. These Eyes for You is the sixth song offered by Holworks since October, 2007 and marks a versatility in band direction, desire, and involvement as we begin to realize we can make songs that will transcend time. We have much to do as we understand the talents of our group and are arranging them so that we can maximize our abilities to bring music to you that you will want to sing along to, initiate a thought reaction, or just sound good.
