If you click your way to Cinemaspeak, you might enjoy a few new critiques on some recent cinematic offerings, such as

This fun little number on everyone's favorite emo-drenched annoyance, Juno.

There's also a piece on the great, forgotten creative visionary, H.L. "Doc" Humes, and more. Check it out...

I write film reviews every so often. Here's one on a new 3D U2 concert film, which may or may not catch your fancy.

The film introduces a new dimension in 3D technology while also showcasing one of the world's biggest bands. Is it any good? Read the review.

I don't care for football or gambling, but I do love puppets. My good pal, David Juskow, loves all three, however, so we've joined forces to bring PUPPET PICKS 2007 to all the degenerate sports gamblers out there. That's right, now you can count on the help of some fun-loving and cuddly talking creatues to help you decide what football team to choose for this week's bet. What more can you ask for? And only a couple of minutes long!

Check out
this week's offering, starring Maggie the Magpie. Similarly idioic names plague all our puppet hosts; find out for yourself by watching the debut episode here, and then watch the entire season during your lunch break. Be sure to tune in each week for more!

So NYC video artist Mica Scalin has put together a crazy fun screening of horror-themed videos by a bunch of "video artists" including yours truly- it´s called Fear Revere (click the link for tickets) and it features work from Michael Amter, Santiago Cohen, Bill Dyszel, David Howell, Jenny Hyde, Bradley Hyppa, Raymond Kristiansen, Joe Nanashe, Rob Parrish, Memo Salazar (me), Mica Scalin, Noah Scalin, Melissa Schubeck and Wunderkrafthaus.

When? Tuesday, October 30, 2007 at 7pm.

My contribution takes a recent favorite "horror" (as in horrific) film, LEFT BEHIND starring Kirk Cameron, and, well, let´s just say if you were always curious about this feature-length fundamentalist christian interpretation of the book of Revelation, fictionalized into a cheesy low-budget hollywoodesque action flick starring a pop-culture icon from 80´s sitcoms, but never wanted to waste 90 minutes of your life doing it, this is probably your only opportunity EVER to do so. Pizza and beer afterwards! Can it get any better than that?

A few years ago, I was given a music video that wasn't quite working; it featured a Bananarama-ish trio singing an 80's-style dance club tune inside of an all-white room. That was pretty much the video; cute as they were, the girls weren't enough to sustain one's interest for the full 3 minutes.

So I recut some of the footage and doodled over the entire thing, just like in high school, when I doodled over desks, homework, books, and tests. Now I was doodling over someone else's video, and it was a lot of fun- a unique combination of one person's idea with another person's reaction to that idea.

Enjoy the show.

Developers are about to transform Coney Island into some twisted, Vegas-like waste of money, though many people are trying to fight this. In the meantime, I went down and took some photos, which you can view here. In only a couple of hours, I was able to get some great images- a testament to how unique Coney Island is. Let's hope it stays that way.

I will be away through July, so my apologies if I don't respond to your messages. I plan to be as far from computers as possible, mostly...

Here are the first 14 hand-painted t-shirts by yours truly. Only one of each exists in the entire known universe. Relax. Give the page a good 15 seconds to load.

They will be on sale at MoCCA this coming weekend, then available to everyone afterwards (whatever is left.) If you're interested in a shirt, hat, bag, etc. with these or any other designs, send me a message or an email and we'll work something out. I will be away for all of July, in case I don't respond promptly.

Enjoy the shirts!

That's right, lucky you, I have a table at this year's MoCCA Festival in New York City. This a totally unique event made up of famous and not-so-famous (i.e. me) cartoonists and artists who are all at tables selling their little, homemade (or not-so-homemade) books, comics, artwork, etc. There's a lot of big names and fun events at this thing, so if you're around June 23-24, come on by and say hello.

I will be selling not only my comics, but some brand-new hand-painted t-shirts I've been working on, which look pretty darn cool if I do say so myself. As soon as I get myself a digital camera, I will post the designs on here for your enjoyment. I'm having a blast making them, and these are truly unique, one-of-a-kind items, something this world needs a little more of. Hopefully I can sell enough to pay for the damn table!

Speaking of the damn table, I will be sharing it with my friend (and much more experienced t-shirt designer) Shannon Guirl, who will be selling her really cool shirts as well. So if you're feeling a little naked these days, come by and purchase some fine garments from us.

We'll also be hosting a comics jam, where you are invited to draw the next panel in a continuing comic drawn all weekend. That, and a whole lot more, only at MoCCA! Miss this you must not.

Cinemaspeak was this film-related site I used to write movie reviews for. It went into slumber for a while, but now it's back, as a more casual (but hopefully still thought-provoking) film blog maintained by three writers, one on the west coast, one on the east coast, and one smack dab in the center of the country. I'm the east coast guy, and I uphold my end of the deal by writing only when I have something worth saying about a particular film.

Check out my essay on one of the world's greatest filmmakers, Ken Loach, who's latest offering, The Wind That Shakes the Barley won the 2006 Palme D'Or and yet has garnered no media attention... or this one on a recent ignored gem of a musical (yeah, a musical, no less), De-Lovely.

Upcoming writings will focus on those lovable film geeks, Robert Rodriguez & Quentin Tarantino, and their latest offering, Grindhouse; Terry Gilliam's brilliant but completely shat-on 2006 masterpiece, Tideland, and how come, despite its amazing popularity, no white people have ever seen Diary of a Mad Black Woman.

Enjoy!

On Sunday, March 11, at 7pm there will be a screening of "1800 Frames", a collection of 1 minute films by a bunch of filmmakers, including yours truly. There's lots and lots of good stuff in here, and it sure beats doing your homework!

It's at the great Two Boots Pioneer Theater in the East Village, and you can buy tickets here. What else must I write to convince you of this wonderous event?

if you happen to live (or are visiting) New York City, take a 15 minute detour to NEWARK, NJ where you can check out some of my films at an exhibit called 1800 Frames. Lots of 1-minute films for your edification! Now through January 18th, 2007...

In June of 2006, we were part of the Museum of Comics and Cartoon Art's yearly MoCCA Festival in New York City, which celebrated the world of good, independent, artistic comics and graphic novels. The Fool Factory had an ongoing jam comic there, open to anyone and everyone. You could come by the table, read what had been done, and add your own comic panel to continue the story. The result? See for yourself, for free, as always:

I know the subject sounds painful. Before your eyes glaze over, just read this:

If katrina, recent heat waves, blackouts, or brush fires are making you wonder what's going on, look no further- we're permanently altering our planet. Before we alter it to the point where living on it becomes impossible, we might want to change some of our habits. But where to start? It's so overwhelming, and feels so hopeless, that often we do nothing- life's complicated enough as it is.

Which is why I've spent a couple of months compiling a list of things you can do that will make a big impact on our world. Resources, tips, websites, phone numbers... it's all here, in a simple, easy-to-read page.

Find out how to help yourself, and others, and the Earth...

...and pass it on!

From the guy that brought you everyone's favorite podcast, "Boy George Michael Jackson Browne" comes something completely different- a graphic novel about how technology is altering our life. Sounds riveting? You betcha! From ipods to photoshop, from copyright issues to ADD, it's all in here, thought-provoking but entertaining. While the book itself costs $5, you can read it for FREE:
