Modern Day Warriors Show Saturday June 2, 2007/OKC

Culture Shock & One Innertainment
Held it down this weekend in Oklahoma City during the powwow. The show was a "Good one" starting in the CSC fashion with "Pass the Mic", an all out open Freestyle session. Then Jabee rocked his set w/Dj Pyro and did his thing promoting his upcoming album with the killa lyrics and stage show. Duo the Sick came with his new tracks and his SICK antics from somewhere else??!! (the BIG Yellow flower?) but with his baritone vocals he killed it in DuoStyle!!! Emcee One took the stage and well, that's why he Nominated fro Best Debut Artist in this year's NAMA'S. He still got the illest showmanship and new tracks with a message and vision for this generation....Ka ras ut koo koo?/Is anybody Listening?!?! I really wonder who is listening to all this?! At this point I was wondering where OKC and surrounding areas were.....we had 75 true Supporters in the place including our A'ka/grandma, Ma, auntie, sister, brother in law, nephew, niece, DrumHop, ASU softball team and some more AkiTaru/people/Tribe that are part of the Modern Day Warriors movement. Next Quese and myself took the stage and did what we do. Hope you can see it someday. The highlight of the set was showcasing our Contemporary Native talent Alex Smith & Kit Landry (Harmony Nights) who sang two beautiful Indian style harmonies and blessed the crowd with their Vocal gifts from Atias Tirawa/Supreme Father. Y'all missed it but be looking out because they comin w/us soon. They also are Nominated for a NAMA this year. To finish the show we performed the "Mekko Rebels from the Sun" anthem and the Akitaru rocked the hook with us!!! Aho Akitaru/thank you so much for the love. This Yihekvtv/songs are for the people, from Atias Tirawa. This Modern Day Warriors movement is a real simple concept, are you or not? You have to ask yourself this question. I see our people continue to conflict ourselves, oppress ourselves, not support each other in this contemporary time. But I see support for the beer companies and tobacco industry continuing the cycles of Oppression and despair. On saturday night as we rocked our show representing for our Akitaru our Tiwa ]itiks/Uncle battled as a warrior for those few last breaths before going on his journey to see our dead relatives. He chose the life of the deadly medicine/Alcohol & liquor and wanted to stop but said he couldn't, he said, Ti koo wee ka/I'm tired. He left this Mother Earth and his beautiful kids, grandkids, relations and friends to miss him way too early. He was a strong Pani Iruska with a good heart and love for his family and always encouraging. As I see my Atias/Father prepare for my Tiwa ]itiks next journey and the pain in his heart and tears as he makes necessary phone calls it makes me sad and determined to not ever stop being a Modern Day Warrior and continue to speak of the genocide, oppression, cycles of abuse and Victories happening everyday in Indian Country.

PART II: CULTURE SHOCK CAMP 2006 YEAR-N-REVIEW PHOTO BLOG

The 2nd half of 2006 was a major turning point in many ways for Culture Shock Camp. CSC's ongoing collaboration with Bunky Echo-Hawk kept elevating with every show we did across NDN Country. Culture Shock shared the stage also with the likes of Neil McIntyre of Yo Flaco! in Denver, Meta & Circa 360, Happy Frejo, Bboys and Bgirls in Tulsa, Star Nayea, Purafe, Atoll, Brian Stoner, Myron Dewey, Rhythm Vision, Def Ch!ld Produx, Kiritapu, Atmosphere, Los Nativos, ISelfDevine, Hollywood Producer Sarah Green, and the New World actress and performer Q'Orianka Kilcher at the Native Voice Film Festival. Culture Shock was also blessed to be rollin with a major multi-media crew (Myron Dewey-Digital Smoke Signals, Ernie Stevens Jr., Jeana & Ocean of Dig Interactive, Jenni Monet-Nish Media, Alyssa Macy-Indigenius Media, Ryan Red Corn-Red Hand Media & Crystal Echo Hawk) who captured and wove together our performances and journeys across NDN Country in order to create some FRESH multi-media productions for Culture Shock shows. As a result CSC was able to come out with two promo videos edited by Myron Dewey & Ernie Stevens Jr.

The Fall of 2006 was an important time in the development of Culture Shock's upcoming projects. Culture Shock, as co-founders of NVISION, spent a good part of the Fall promoting our new Native non-profit that promotes leadership development for Native youth and young adults in multi-media, arts, culture, entertainment, and education. CSC's hip hop documentary project and our 2007 National Tour are the flagship projects for NVision. NVision & Culture Shock threw some DOPE events from Boulder, CO to Minneapolis, MN to Rapid City, SD to raise awareness and resources for NVision and Culture Shock's documentary project. We raised $18,000-many, many heartfelt thanks to Seventh Generation Fund, our donors, supporters and all of your who came out to our NVision events. Prayers were answered and some help came through that enabled Culture Shock and NVision to receive much needed resources and equipment to help make these projects happen in 2007!

AS FOR 2007…Some SERIOUS things are going down Culture Shock Style in the New Year!!!

The Culture Shock Camp hip hop documentary will be out in May with the trailer to be released later this Spring; CSC will be featured in a nationally released video PSA promoting the Native American Rights Fund; new music from Quese IMC, Shock B & Brian Stoner; More DOPE Events; and a National Culture Shock & NVision Documentary Screening & Hip Hop Tour in the Summer of 2007…

So be looking out for Culture Shock Camp to Come at Ya Big, in a Good Way, and Straight Up Pa Nee/Seminole Style in 2007!

CULTURE SHOCK CAMP 2006 YEAR IN REVIEW..PART I PHOTO BLOG

HOLIDAY SHOUT OUTS CULTURE SHOCK STYLE AND MANY THANKS FOR ALL THE BLESSINGS WE RECEIVED IN 2006!

Nawa,
As the end of the year approaches it is a time when we take the time to look back and reflect on everything that has happened, on accomplishments, challenges, friends, family, and all the beautiful people, youth, Elders, and communities that we had the honor and privilege to meet, perform for, work with, get to know, and call friends. Culture Shock criss-crossed Indian Country from coast to coast this year from little to big reservations, towns and cities. All we can say is that 2006 was nothing less than TURRAHE for Culture Shock Camp.

This year was one of the biggest and most successful on record for us with some dope events, two nominations for Quese IMC's "Betty Lena" project, including a win for "Outstanding Musical Achievement" from First Americans in the Arts. Culture Shock's performance at "The Pit" at Gathering of Nations in front of a crowd of 8,000 was definitely one of the greatest highlights as were all of our shows on the numerous reservations and for tribal youth organizations that we got to visit with and perform for.

2006 also saw the start of filming for the Culture Shock Native hip hop documentary that will debut in 2007; DJ Shock B's "Longevity Tour" that celebrated The IndiGenius's "20 Years in Da Game"; the birth of an amazing musical collaboration between Quese IMC & 20/20; and the powerful creative partnership formed with our Irari and artist Bunky Echo-Hawk who brought the power of his FRESH, INDIGENIZED artistic vision to the stage and helped take Culture Shock's music and performances to a whole other level.

2006 was also a year of amazing collaborations and partnerships with NVision, Hip Hop Congress and the Native American Rights Fund (NARF). We also shared the stage with some amazing artists and performers-Meta & Circa 360, MC Jabee, Emcee One, Maniac the Siouxpernatural, Nightshield, Purafe, Star Nayea, Brian Stoner, Myron Dewey, all the crews that were part of the CIB Tour, Happy Frejo, Rhythm Vision, Atmosphere, Los Nativos, ISelfDevine, and so many more..

Yes 2006..So much to reflect on and give thanks for. We want to thank everyone for all your good words, support, and allowing us to keep following this good road that our music and Native lifeways provide for us. Culture Shock also wants to recognize all the good people behind the scenes who have helped us have such a successful year. Without the hard work and support of the following and that of our family, friends, and loved ones we could not have accomplished all that we did in 2006. These people and organizations include: Ryan Red Corn, Crystal Echo Hawk, Alyssa Macy, Myron Dewey, Meta, Brian Stoner, Brit aka Miss Seminole Nation, Bobby Frazier, Jenni Monet, Tommie Eppler, Bunky Echo-Hawk, Ernie Stevens Jr., our whole family, as well as NVision, Pani Arts, and the Pawnee Nation College. Especially many, many thanks to all those people who captured all these moments on film. There are so many people we want to thank..so we send you good thoughts, many thanks and prayers for good blessings to all the people that have helped, supported, challenged, and encouraged us in our journey. Most of all we give thanks to Atius Tirawa.

So with all that said, enjoy the highlight pics from Part I of two CSC year-n-review photoblogs that capture some of the most memorable Culture Shock moments and events in 2006. Don't forget to check out Part II of CSC's 2006 Year-N-Review Photo Blog that includes updates on Culture Shock's big plans to make BIG THINGS HAPPEN IN 2007!

Happy Holidays and Have a Safe & Blessed New Year!!
