I have spent the better part of the last month having a flu that wasn't a flu, just a result of changing some necessary meds. Every time I even thought of going near a computer, I'd get a really awesome migraine. Needless to say, my online presence has been lacking. I'm grateful to be finally coming around.

This weekend I had the privilege of attending both the Equality Summit, put on by Equality California, and Camp Courage hosted by the Courage Campaign.  Throughout both days I was taken aback by the people who were there.  It is breathtakingly awesome to be a part of this movement.  Though I'm going to have to get better first (I have about 2 more minutes computer time left before I'll be sorry) I am grateful and inexplicably excited to be part of this movement.

Oh yeah. And the wedding is on Valentines Day. That's beyond fantastic too!
If you know me text me, 'cause I don't know when my eyes will allow me to go online again without a rebellion.

We are ready for the next stage of production.  We are creating a media package to gain corporate and other support for the documentary.  In order for it to have an impact, we need all the backing we can get.  Help us put out the word.  Every dollar counts.

Since this is a civil rights issue, it has unlimited potential.  Please help us write history.  If we don't, someone else will... And we can't risk leaving it up to them.

Thank you!

Thursday, September 11, 2008
it's been seven years, today, since my life got flushed down the toilet and i think i've finally let it go. farewell, brooding.
Thursday, September 11, 2008

it was time to exercise the freedom of life without categorization. i've spent way too much time to shove myself in a pigeon hole or countless compartments and i'm too old to be this claustrophobic.

i've taken the liberty of stealing a free fall second to stand on my head (proverbially) and just _be_.

there must be a separation between self and reality. not to shrug off responsibility but to ignore the magnetic drive to fit in to a niche. comfortable not to be numb. strap on moon boots and lift your nose from the grindstone. there are these moments in the midst of present hell that have hang time. a split second where we can fly.

stevie wonder - uptight (everything is alright)

not that the hell goes away, but we all have wings.

my sneakers are dead.
in the midst of mourning, i got to thinking that they've walked a few hundred miles with me so i really shouldn't complain. meanwhile, the 3 miles to school walking on the side of my foot is not something i plan on repeating. so please join me in moment of silence for my dead kicks. ***sorrow***

secondly my favorite-est flamboyantly gay musicianship teacher with the incredible feathered hair is taking a leave of absence for a year and i'm broken hearted. how does one get up at 6am without the promise of fabulousness?

all my fun has been taken away. grr.

Current mood:  electric
So we have missed an entire month of our lives. Tracy somehow got introduced to the worst case of food poisoning ever and has been bed/couch ridden since the very beginning of August. Any and all plans have been flushed down the toilet. Twice. But she's finally on the road back to health and I am very grateful. At least we got lots of quality time together?

I'm not gonna lie. The door of September has usually opened to a slow descent into hell. But I'd like to think that this changing of the guard means big things. And a girlfriend that is finally healthy. That'd be nice too. I've got dreams bigger than I've ever had. And the moments are flying. Life has otherwise been as tactile as a hologram. Living in audio reality. Somewhere between boxed in and lost in vacuous potential.

Today I'm chasing enlightenment.
and tomorrow, school begins. (whee!)

pardon the double mention of thunder and lightning. but it's just how it happened.
(re: hollywood bowl performance)
Music so good the rest of my senses abandoned their posts to listen. The horns come in so sweet and her voice so indescribable. The heavens had opened up and flowing from her lips was thunder, with all its majesty and the band was lightning. One could only jump to the beat. Eyes closed head nod knee shake. Every note a piece of nirvana. Chords lit up sunsets under eyelids. As it built, we soared. She growled low and beautiful. Turned her head and laughed as she sang. The notes suspended and we with it. Perfection in a moment. And Etta James was God.

(re: a night of heat lightning. i stayed out over an hour staring at the sky.)
The night air is sultry and thick with electricity. The sky flashes hot white and distant thunder growls so low it shakes the ground.
You can feel the ache for rain. The low clouds teasing with their hot breath and flashes of light. The raw power flexing in the slow time of midnight.
The driving pulse of inevitability. Screaming crickets and the silence behind it. Waiting with bated breath for the next beat of this primal symphony.

call me crazy, but 2 days of the ocean are worth a week of sick. well. kind of.

you run in and in and fly out sometimes in the zen of potential death. a slow down ode to all that's greater. fearless in the white water and foam. need no wings to soar. prodigal child feeding grease fire. blaze and burn. almost tirelessly running on top of the water till seamen's legs take over and there's no firm ground. even stone still the waves still crash through the night. like riding the universe.

molto ritardando till you melt into sound
you are the sidewalk you walk on
it is child and bliss and the current
through transducers it flows
it breathes you exhale
a three minute lifespan
but oh. what a life.

i usually am overwhelmingly embarrassed to be caught listening to this sort of thing but it transported me to another world and i'm having a weak moment. so have a listen.

for some odd reason it's grey out.  which, in LA, is a high holy tragedy.
not to mention the horror of a little inclement weather.(yet mention it i must.)
gasp.

i have written my first 16 bar string quartet with was (and you'd never guess this in a bazillion years) performed by the string quartet-in residence at school. perfectly good mp3s, which i actually recorded with a classmate, are available by request. i'm definitely not ashamed by the finished project and am anticipating, with incredible excitement, next semester's brass quartet project.  unless of course they force us to write for a sax quartet, in which case i'll transcribe some World Inferno Frienship Society licks and no one will be the wiser.

on the rare occasion that i realize where reality is on the time line, i realize how much i've fallen out of touch with _everyone_.  sucks.  since i'm rarely on the all holy interweb, texting is _the_ way to get a hold of me. so when you see the little mobile phone icon on AIM, don't hesitate.  my texting skills are well honed.

so i think the point is that i have a perfectly good summer with nothing to do but to re-join the world which would be fabulous (and hang out on musictheory.net. control your jealousy). i'm on the prowl for good music and a good read, so suggestions would be much appreciated.

until then i'll be at the piano banging out a bassline.
