Hi all

Yes to all our amazement our debut publication 'Satsuma Sun Mover' by Adam Green has been long listed for The Dylan Thomas Prize!!!
Peter Stead even said "I believe that this year's long list is one of the strongest ever seen amongst any international literary prize."
WOW. BBC link here http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/south_west/7504425.stm

Anyway moving on from the smiles we at Lazy Gramophone want some help.

If we were to be short listed in September we would have to front £2500
to the DTP for press. This is stated in the rules. As you may realise
being such a small publisher we wouldn't be able to afford to support
this process.

However we have come up with a plan A and B

A:

Ask a potential sponsor to front this money if we were to get on to the shortlist. With this we would acknowledge the sponsor on the inside page of all future prints of the book as well as on the front of our website that
will be fully redesigned for 1st September. If there are other places
we can acknowledge them then we will.

B:

Ask you kindly to donate £20 where we would put a new acknowledge page with your names. We would need 125 to donate. We prefer not to do this one, but if we haven't found anyone closer to the time we will be asking.

What we really want is for you to suggest possible sponsors we can
send letters to who might agree to support this happening. They
wouldn't have to front that sum until we have found out if we have
been shortlisted, and if for some reason we weren't then no money
would be needed, but we hope we do get to the next stages.

We feel this is a win win situation to whoever agrees to support us. Please mail Phil with any links.

All the best, hope you have a great summer and many thanks for any guidance you can give us.

Best,

Lazy Gramophone

Hello,

We thought it was about time to give you a big update on what has been happening in the wonderful world of Lazy G!

EVENTS

Firstly we had our last gig for a while Wednesday 18th 2008.

Without doubt we have had a shed load of fun putting on these events tolling well over 15 in the last 18 months, highlights probably being our charity gig of Pip Vs PIP in Sept 2007 for Cancer Research UK where we made over £1000.

It was great to know the fact that an event with just poetry on a Saturday night can make a scene into a riot. We hope to achieve this again on a bigger scale towards the beginning of next year.

Our other recent highlight this year was the May 4th bank holiday festival. There was spoken word during the day and music at night. Everyone just seemed to love the vibe and we are keen to make this a yearly occasion. Thanks to all those acts again that we love and have supported on our regular monthly nights.

We feel very proud in the knowledge and belief that we are supporting some of the best alternative acts in London and the UK.

ART

This has been a really big highlight for us when it comes to progression. We started The Macbeth gallery in January 2008 to support up-and-coming artists that don't normally get a free space to display their work. This has been the regular Lazy G artists such as Tom Harris, Carl Slater and Andrew Walter as well as new ones brought into the fold such as Indi Davies, Dirty Drawers, Garry Milne and more.

Recently, we have been fortunate enough to gain support from The Hospital Club, with three of our artists work being exhibited and available for sale at the club. The artists featured are Tom Harris, Garry Milne and Dan Prescott whose piece 'Quentin Armstrong' will be featured on the front cover of the latest members magazine.

We couldn't really ask for much more and are excited for the second half of the years displays.

PUBLISHING

Yes, to those who don't quite know, we are an independent publisher. We have officially published two books (available through our website) and are about to launch our third 'Echoes of Dawn' a zombie romance written in verse by Sam Rawlings and illustrated by Matt Black.

It was also great to see the many collaborated poetry/illustrated hand produced booklets made by Danny over the last year and we hope to see more again at some point in the future.

WEBSITE

The most exciting thing happening at the moment! A newly developed website by Ben Chidgey and design influences from our artists will be launched by September 2008 with the aim of becoming one of the prominent creative platforms in the UK, enabling our artists to consistently update and showcase their most current work. WOW!

Thanks for all your support even if it is just keeping up with that we are doing.

All the best

Phil, Danny and the Lazy G Artists

JONO MCCLEERY
A couple of us saw him a year or so ago at a OneTaste west night and we were blown away that such an amazing talent can exist without causing major problems to the structure of time and space.
Amazing song writing, a strong soulful voice and accompanied by the very accomplished Dan's on bass and drums.
http://www.myspace.com/jonomccleery

SIMON GIBSON
With the Lazy gang from day one Simon has continued to write great material over the years.
Experimenting now with a nice little box of tricks his music is becoming increasingly exciting in new ways.
With intricate rhythms, gorgeous hooks and a warm voice Simone is one of our favorites.
It's quite hard work for us to pull him up to the big smoke from his cozy nook down in the south-west so make sure you don't miss out.

KING JOHN
Whiskey fueled, bear voiced wild man King John has never failed to rock at our gigs. His guitar playing and singing get exponentially better with each whiskey donated, so dig deep.

"I am a writer and singer of songs, vascillating between the silly and the semi-serious. I'm a very big fan of words" says Kev.

"I'd like to think my work has a sense of uneasy optimism.
I include macabre characters with languid postures that are
fraught with uncertainty and concern. I tend to offset these
un-beauteous characters with an elegant use of flowing line,
decorative boarders and considered detail. I'm trying to
produce work that projects the negative, unpleasant aspects
of life as things that can be viewed as beautiful and appealing.

My current personal work centres on the inevitability's of life
such as: age, anxiety and responsibility. Although I'm exploring
personal concerns they are issues that most people can relate to
at some point in their life.

Despite working in a variety of media, I always start with a pencil
and a sketchbook I like to split my digital and hand rendered work
evenly and have usually got at least one painting underway.

I owe my creative interests to skateboarding and daydreams."

Interested in photographing moments that conjure feelings of ponder.
Most of Will's work comes from walking around with a camera trying
to document the immense world around him, and capturing in a picture,
the way it makes him feel. All his work is un-cropped and un-enhanced.

Andrew Walter is an illustrator and bad tempered sod currently being
kicked out of South London. He graduated from Kingston University in the summer of
2007 with a BA in Illustration and is now chipping away at establishing his freelance
career. Drawing takes priority in his work, but he yearns for the day he can tackle
some printmaking again. He has exhibited at a number of previous Lazy Gramophone
events in the past, as well as at the group exhibition A Word In Your Eye, in conjunction
with Write To Ignite festival. The grey hair on the right side of his head is a birthmark,
not an indicator of worry. Trephine Me contains all new work, and is his first solo show
in London.

Dirty Drawers is what happens when the clicking pencils of Miss
Gill and Miss Harrison collide. Two minds, many nimble fingers
and a shared appreciation for the slightly wrong work together
to create a zone populated by unconventional characters caught
in unusual behaviours, all under the influence of 'Jan' – muse,
mediator and master of deviance. The exhibition, In Outside at
the Macbeth Gallery will see Jan (hunter, gatherer, inventor,
philosopher, wise man & fool,) let rip.

The first piece of the show, a future-nature landscape housing
one lone lodge, will set the scene. As you step into the second
room you are welcomed inside the lodge, where you will join a
collection of prized artifacts and traplings.
The installation has been created specifically for the Macbeth
Gallery and the work will act as a back drop to the activities in
this being a living, social space.

Closing party viewing Thursday 10th April.
