all over the place.
that is where I am.
that is probably where a lot of you find yourselves today.
maybe every day.
perhaps it's hard to focus on the tasks at hand, and it seems like there are not enough hours in the day.
perhaps fridays feel like 3 whole rainy mondays rolled up into one, and you still don't get anything worthwhile done.
maybe the MySpace status update is far too convenient a way to try and express yourself and you need to write everything down- as much as you can- and exorcise it out of YourSpace.
things can only get better.....
at least that's what they say.

Soundtrack To The Cure
October 16, 2008

The heiress to soul music, Lalah Hathaway, invites us to experience her most personal album yet. Self Portrait paints a picture of growing pains, maturity and acceptance on adult terms. N'Digo chatted with the songstress about her latest endeavor and her connection with the Susan G. Komen for the Cure: Circle of Promise.
N'Digo: You have been touring with the release of Self Portrait. What can we expect from this album?
Hathaway: I've gotten a lot of positive feedback. I think this is my best album. This is the record that I've been most involved with. I've done all of the writing and production—well, co-writes and co-production. It really is my favorite. My goal as an artist is to get vulnerable so that I can really tell the stories that go with the songs.
N'Digo: There are several standout tracks—"Tragic Inevitability," "What Goes Around." You said the concept for "Learning To Swim" came to you while you were actually learning to swim in Bermuda … for the third or fourth time in your life?
Hathaway: Yeah. Every summer. First of all it takes me about a week and a half to get my whole head under water! But every summer it seems like I'm re-learning. It's become a metaphor for my actual life.
N'Digo: Would you say that learning to swim—or forgetting—is about fear?
Hathaway: Absolutely! And the re-learning of things, which we all do constantly. We re-evaluate and re-forecast our lives.
N'Digo: What is the goal of Circle of Promise?
Hathaway: The ultimate goal is to eradicate this disease altogether. Circle of Promise is an initiative directed particularly to African American women. There are three key things: mobilizing—making sure that everyone has access to everything; dispelling the myths of breast cancer; and empowering women to make the choices that are going to help them: like early detection, taking care of themselves, and spreading the word to get a dialogue going.
N'Digo: How did you become involved with Circle of Promise?
Hathaway: It was really a fortuitous thing. I was (performing at) the Trumpet Awards and I went over to their table or booth. I was just talking to them and saying, while I don't have any problems with my breasts, I had so many of my girlfriends dealing with these issues. My manager, who was with me at the time, is a breast cancer survivor. I said I would love to be involved somehow. Being able to stand in front of 1,000 people at a time and say 'please check your breast' is not a huge deal. But being able to have that kind of platform and say something worthwhile was really important. I try to keep a little bit of humor in it. I'm not the person that is going to regurgitate the facts, but I'm good at talking. It's good to get the dialogue going. I tell everybody at the show to reach out and touch a neighbor's breasts.
N'Digo: Many of your friends have been affected but you haven't?
Hathaway: Not yet. Two of my friends had biopsies last week. It's just amazing. Five years ago, I didn't know anybody, but now we're in our 30s so maybe that's what it's all about. My manager's wife traveled with me a lot. Seeing her go through it… it wasn't even real to me until she came to meet me at the airport and all of her hair was gone.
N'Digo: What else do we need to know about cancer and our survival?
Hathaway: Lifestyle choices. I'm one of those people, kind of dragging my feet on fitness. But I'm really starting to be more aware of it. I'm approaching that certain age which mean, 'you better get yourself together, child.' Eating right and working out—which is crucial. Cutting out a lot of the fat and sugar—those are two of my favorite things in the world combined. I was a smoker, believe it or not. I quit about four years ago. It's really a dumb thing. It's one of the dumbest things you can do to your body, and one of the hardest things to quit. There are many benefits to getting tested early. I just had my first mammogram and I'm not 40 yet.
N'Digo: Any last words for our readers?
Hathaway: Think about this–every three minutes a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer, and every 13 minutes a woman dies. That's crazy, particularly because when detected early it is 98 percent curable.

well, a few things about last night.

Republicans are spooky.
Cindy McCain's eyes look like they shoot out fire and brimstone.
Also, she is a terrible reader. Painful to watch.
"it's not…it's not in our natural instinct to rally to them…"
Did she say that? Yup.
She did.

I cannot believe how bad the scoring and editing of these videos are.
Are those OSX screensavers up there?
Thank god Spielberg is a dem.

This whole thing looks like a scary mega church.
Every one of them looks Billy Graham.
I am hollowed by the insincerity.
I am amazed by how many hats there are.
Stovepipe, sparkly, straw, cowboy…
I am completely creeped out by the Abe Lincoln guy.
Could we really end up with Tina Fey as vice president?
Does anyone really doubt that George Bush is the worst president ever?
Of any country?
On the planet?

When they say 'I can't vote for Barack….He's not American enough…He's a MUSLIM'!
As if -it's ok to be racist against a muslim….
I guess muslim is the new black?

These are exciting, wonderful, horrifying, surreal, righteous, evil and trying times we live in…
