LVFBM's First Annual Golf Tournament

Last week, our sister publication, Las Vegas Food & Beverage Magazine, hosted their 1st annual The Good, The Bad and The F-Ugly Golf Tournament at the gorgeous Siena Golf Club in Summerlin, and boy what a tournament it was. The interactive golf event, put fun first while stripping away advantages like say a golfer's handicap. Instead, at each hole, teams were dared to make their day by drawing one of three cards, the good cards aided their score, bad cards hampered them and the f-ugly cards, well let's just say it got pretty f-ugly out there.

Motley Crue rocker Vince Neil in a pink tutu, master chef Gustav Mauler in a Tangerine Nightclub burlesque uniform, Sushi Roku honcho 'Sushi' Mike Cardenas teeing off blindfolded, Palms sneaker-sporting prince Jon Gray draining a booze soaked 50-foot putt- the tournament had it all. "It was the most fun tournament I've ever played in," noted one participant, a sentiment echoed by many in the days following. Check out the award winners below:

The Good - With a highly debated score, and a golf outfit that would have made Johnny Cash jealous, the winners of the 1st annual The Good, The Bad and The F-Ugly Golf Tournament was Matt Lanigan and Team Coors Lite.

The Bad - With a commitment to golf anarchy and a fearsome foursome that included Right Gin sales czar Chris Alvarez, the aforementioned sneaker loving Gray, N9NE Group director of marketing Mike 'The Putt-ler' Fuller and Bellagio's jedi-sharp master mixologist, Drew Levinson, it's little wonder that Team Right did lots wrong and bogeyed their way to The Bad award.

The F-Ugly - With so many f-ugly landmines out on the course, it was dangerous territory for the hundred plus industry golfers that turned out to play. Drawing the most f-ugly cards out on the course, not only landed the PURE Nightclub team in trouble on the scorecard, but also earned them the first ever F-Ugly Award.

As an added bonus, our friends from Red Bull Energy Drink set-up shop at the 100-something yard, par 3, 17th hole with a special 'Closest to the Pin' contest. Former Commander's Palace chef, and James Beard nominee, Carlos Guia owned the flag for most of the day until, with just a few holes left, LVFBM consulting chef and former TAO Las Vegas, BOA Steakhouse and The Lodge at Pebble Beach top chef Josh 'Moses' Thomsen left his ball just inches from the cup taking home the title and a custom-made Red Bull golf bag filled with energy-packing cans of Red Bull. We should have known better, Thomsen's been playing a lot of golf lately…

As we move closer to what is anticipated to be a near-Labor Day opening, PURE Management Group has named its first full-time employee to the new LAX Nightclub project, in respected and revered local VIP maven Marko Greisen. The second generation Las Vegas local will oversee all customer development aspects for the new nightclub, a role he became very good at over 12 plus years working with the N9NE Group, first with Drink Nightclub (which existed in what would become ICE Nightclub), then with all of the company's nightlife offerings at the Palms Casino Resort: Rain Nightclub, ghostbar, Playboy Club and MOON Nightclub. "I am so excited and grateful to be joining the PMG team," Marko told the Eye in his first interview as PMG staffer, "I can't wait to immerse myself in the company and learn their side of the business and what has led them to be leaders in the nightlife industry. More or less, I'm grateful to learn from the structure and team behind PURE Management Group." When asked about what his title will be, Greisen plunges forward, "I'm not about titles; I am about treating people right, helping provide the ultimate Vegas experience and just being myself. I am really looking forward to being able to take care of the locals and treating the hometown people great." Obviously, the N9NE Group and PMG are vastly different beasts, however Greisen insists that his transition will be seamless, "I will always have a special place in my heart for the N9NE Group, but this next part of my journey is truly going to be exciting. I have always admired Stevie [referring to PMG boss Steve Davidovici] and now having the opportunity to work with him will be amazing. I know he runs a tight ship, but that's what I enjoy about him and his company." As talk turns to LAX itself, Greisen hushes up before he lets any details slip but adds, "I truly believe LAX will be the next great Las Vegas nightclub, it is truly a beautiful project. It's exciting to be part of the team that will continue LAX's success into Las Vegas. We have a great challenge ahead of us because of the reputation of the Los Angeles original, but there is no doubt in my mind that we will succeed!" As we move towards the club's late summer/fall opening, the hiring of Greisen is a major indication that PMG has no intentions of resting on their laurels and is intent on making LAX a hit. Being born and raised in Las Vegas, and having spent a dozen years taking care of VIP's for the N9NE Group, Greisen has built a solid reputation on customer service and 'just being Marko'. Hiring such a seasoned individual as its first employee makes a large statement that LAX is not just a far off PMG dream, but is inching ever closer and closer with each day.

Beard vs. The World

When chefs gather together it's no surprise that it can be quite entertaining. All the partying aside, they trade opinions on new restaurants, discuss trends and new products, exchange secrets and dish dirt, of course. This past weekend, a who's who of the culinary world was present as the gourmands were brought together by a ballyhooed Bon Appetite Grand Tasting event that brought together amazing culinary names but very little turnout, energy or vibe at the Caesars Palace pool. Afterwards, the party really got started at a private reception at David Burke Las Vegas where chefs like Guy Savoy, Daniel Boulud, Hubert Keller, David Burke, Andre Rochat, Joe Elevado, Ralph Perrazzo and David Varley, to name a few, mixed and mingled with dozens of other chefs and operators. It's no surprise but the biggest red button topic of the evening was clearly Restaurant Guy Savoy's failure to bring home the 'Best New Restaurant' award at the recent James Beard Awards, an award that instead went to Joel Robuchon's NYC transplant, the casual, counter service L'Atelier. "It's just a total joke," said one reputed chef on the condition of anonymity; he wasn't alone however as most everyone present was in total agreement. If the famed Savoy, or his son Franck who operates the Las Vegas branch of the Savoy empire, were bothered by it, they didn't let on, instead choosing the higher road and enjoying the praise of their peers. This came on the heels of an email we received from one industry professional who was present at the actual awards ceremony, "You missed the ultimate absurdity in the Best Restaurant Award category," began the email, "Neither Robuchon nor anyone from his Manhattan L'Atelier showed up to accept the restaurant's award. With red faces, the presenters stood there and mumbled something along the lines of "well, we'll be sure we get the award to him," the email continued. "In contrast, Guy Savoy was there, affable and accessible as always and gracious in defeat." We think we've said enough on this topic, so we'll leave it at that. If you have not yet been to Restaurant Guy Savoy, save up your pennies and stop by, it's breathtaking.

A Tao Trio

As the sun set over the Las Vegas Strip Sunday, several hundred industry locals and lucky tourists hardly noticed it- they were too busy enjoying the city's newest nightlife promotion, TAO Beach's Sunset Sessions. More reminiscent of legendary European summer spot Ibiza than Las Vegas Boulevard, Sunset Sessions is the first weekly promotion that waits until the temperature starts to dip before heating up with a relaxing yet up-tempo affair that is sure to be one of the city's next, great parties. Holdovers from the earlier sun soaked hours remain, partying it up in the same bikinis, pasties and board shorts that helped them improve their tan while a new crowd joins the party dressed to the nines in relaxed summer wear; the common theme between the two, a penchant for a hip and stylish party in the outdoor air. As the sun set and dusk slowly faded from the famed Strip, giving way to darkness, the party continued on with new arrivals joining the fray, no doubt using the beach as a starting point for a long evening ahead, after all, Sunday nights have always been about the locals. "We've invented a time slot that's completely new to Las Vegas," added international scenester and revered local PR guru Marc Jay, who besides being one of the masterminds behind Sunset Sessions, is serving as the promotion's director. "This time slot is a staple in Ibiza, quite often the sunset parties are better than what's going on in the nightclubs later that night," he continued. "We only play vocal house music, but we will be adding different sounds to the mix throughout the summer," notes the affable Brit while pointing out that last Sunday's event included not only a trumpet player, who danced on the pool deck trumpet in one hand, drink in the other, but also a large portion of the cast of STOMP who brought a collection of music-making oddities that added to the party's vibe. "There is no dress code, it's completely relaxed and different from what people are offered in the nightclubs." After a successful first week with plenty of familiar faces, Sunset Sessions has a hearty encore planned for Memorial Day when world famous DJ, Paul Oakenfold will man the turntables for several hundred of his closest friends. Congratulations and just keep our day bed reserved!

With its first dedicated promotion up and running, TAO's management team is still learning just how much of an asset the newly expanded space is becoming. All along, the plan was to open the Beach as a third level to the nightclub on Saturday nights, allowing TAO to push its capacity as well as offer an exciting new environment and component to the TAO package. Friday afternoon, as the club was bombarded with table reservations for the busy weekend evenings ahead of them, the decision was made to open the Beach as an extension of the nightclub, and VIP's were given the option of enjoying their bottle service poolside. "We looked at the amount of reservations we had and decided to give it a shot," said TAO boss Jason Strauss proudly while hinting at the enormous revenue boost the club received because of the decision. It also helped push the club to one of its busiest Saturday nights in its history. "We had to close the entire door at 1A," Strauss continued, clearly awed, "the line went around the block and into the mall. By the end of the night, we had almost 6,000 people come through the club." Already a standard bearer for covers in the restaurant, expect TAO Beach to not only be an effective weapon for the TAO promotions and marketing teams, but also for the VIP Services division as the summer continues. For example, this Sunday, in celebration of the long weekend, the TAO machine will be firing on all cylinders; while TAO Beach opens for fun in the sun during the day before offering 'Oakey' at the Sunset Sessions party, the restaurant will open for dinner as usual at 5P and expects over a 1,000 covers and the nightclub will present famed DJ Erick Morillo, who will spin a special Sunday set. Wow, is right!

Last month, Restaurant & Institutions Magazine released its annual survey of the top 100 grossing independent restaurants in the country, a list that is certainly no stranger to TAO's NYC sister property, and who just met its new reigning champ, TAO Las Vegas. Rather than simply topping the list, TAO Las Vegas shattered it, landing over $17 million above its closest competitor, storied NYC eatery Tavern on the Green. To be fair, TAO's reported $55.2 million in F&B sales does include nightclub revenue, which gives it a somewhat unfair advantage when comparing the outlet to others on the list, although other mixed-use facilities also on the list include #8 MIX Las Vegas (Mandalay Bay) which was estimated at $20 million in revenue and #13 rumjungle (Mandalay Bay) which was estimated at $18 million in revenue. According to R&I, TAO also landed a 50% alcoholic beverage sales mix which again points to the nightclub's influence on these numbers, however the only other restaurant in the same ballpark was TAO New York City which posted a 40% sales mix, possibly a more impressive number since it doesn't possess a nightclub component. The report continued that over the course of 2006, TAO Las Vegas served approximately 600,000 meals with an average check of $70.00 per person in the 400-seat restaurant.

Four Years and Ballin'

OPM Nightclub will celebrate their 4 year anniversary this week, beginning on Thursday night (5/24) with their Official Anniversary Party. OPM did a nationwide Anniversary Promo where they picked 50 radio winners around the country to fly into Vegas for the weekend. On Friday night, the lucky winners will attend the special Anniversary concert by R&B sensation Bobby Valentino along with other party-goers and OPM's long standing residents, Andy Gil, Masterweb, Franzen and BET's Dj Mad Linx on the turntables. Saturday Night, in celebration of their anniversary, sponsored UFC fighter Terry Martin will be at OPM for his official afterparty. On The Move

The Hard Rock Hotel has hired Matt Greene as its Senior Vice President of Operations. Greene has a long twenty year history in the field which includes his most recent post of Director of New Builds and Conversions for W Hotels Worldwide. Other properties where Greene had toiled include Hotel ZaZa in Dallas, Texas; the Diplomat in Hollywood, Florida and Wyndam Hotels in Phoenix, Arizona.
Sustainable seafood palace RM Seafood (Mandalay Bay) recently had several changes to their management team. First, sommelier Christopher Janz has departed from his beverage director position and will be replaced with a pretty serious name in the wine world in former Thomas Keller wine guy, Jeff Eichelberger. He will making the move to Las Vegas after residing over the wine program at Keller's award winning Big Apple outlet Per Se. Also resigning his post is longtime assistant general manager Allan Zinkann, who is making the move back to Chicago where he will be opening a Dunkin Donuts franchise. Before joining the RM Seafood team, Zinkann had held a management role at the Foundation Room for several years. He is being replaced by manager Craig Hammond.
Natalie Fisher has announced that she will be rejoining the N9NE Group as the company's Guest Services Manager after a brief sabbatical. She will be filling a position left vacant after the promotion of Julie Cane and will be the direct conduit for the N9NE Group's roster of VIP Members. "I'm thrilled at the opportunity to be back working for such a great company," Fisher told the Eye. "For the past three years the N9NE Group has been like a family to me. It is such an exciting time to be a part of all that is going on at the Palms, and it is an honor to once again be working for our members."
Longtime, lovely VIP Host, Andrea Duran, has announced that she has rejoined the PURE Management Group and is the first host tapped to join the LAX VIP Host stable. Duran has history with the nightlife giant, helping to open Tangerine Nightclub nearly three years ago. After moving to Los Angeles, Duran returned to help open Revolution, the Beatles themed ultra-lounge at The Mirage. Working with Greisen will be nothing new for Duran; the two worked together way back in the day at the Drink Nightclub.
Jeff Lovari has resigned from his Station Casinos PR manager post to introduce his newly founded public relations firm SCINC Marketing. "Today is my last day at Station Casinos," stated an email Lovari sent out last week, "It has been my absolute pleasure working with all of you over the past year promoting the wonderful amenities Station Casinos' properties have to offer."

Wine Tasting Alert

Oenophiles should mark their calendars for Wednesday, June 6th when a Las Vegas will be the host of a very special wine tasting focusing on the phenomenal New World wine producing region of New Zealand. While New Zealand is unarguably best known for the vivacious and lively Sauvignon Blanc (or Sauvi's as the kiwi's call them) produced in the region, they are starting to achieve growing recognition for other varietals as well. The folks from New Zealand Wine will be offering two tastings on that day and qualified industry professionals can attend either free of charge. It will be the most comprehensive tasting of New Zealand wine ever in Las Vegas! With approximately 70 wineries and producers taking part, it is a wine tasting that cannot be missed if you work with and/or sell wine either on-premise or off-premise. This week, VooDoo Lounge inside the Rio will be holding exciting Memorial Day Weekend Events beginning on Thursday (5/24) with the live performance by KC the Drummer and DJ's Joey Mazzola and L1. The Hit List

We already mentioned R&I's annual list of the Top 100 Independent Restaurants in the country as well as TAO Las Vegas' conquest of the list landing the nation's top spot, however, they certainly weren't alone as they had lots of local company as Las Vegas restaurants accounted for over 20% of the Top 100 list with 21 different outlets represented on a list. It's a great indicator of Las Vegas' influence and importance on the national dining scene since each of the restaurants had estimated or listed revenues of over $10 million. Light Nightclub at Bellagio hosted five-time Grammy award winner John Legend's official concert after-party last Friday. The acclaimed musician, fresh from his concert at Lake Las Vegas, rolled into Light with a crew of security, back-up singers and swarms of fans. Also at Light, poker player Antonio "The Magician" Esfandiari, who previously dined at Fix Restaurant & Bar earlier in the evening and making a brief cameo Denver Broncos Coach Mike Shanahan. On Sunday, actress Lara Flynn Boyle stopped by Light for a private party hosted by her husband's company Endeavor Commercial Real Estate. Over at Jet, in town for the Academy of Country Music awards, country superstar Toby Keith hung out with Jay DeMarcus of Rascal Flatts and friends until the early morning. Also, over the weekend, the A&E hit reality show "Gene Simmons Family Jewels" filmed an episode at Jet for the new upcoming season. Gene's long time girlfriend Shannon Tweed and her sister dined at Stack Restaurant & Bar before heading over to Jet for a Bachelorette Party scene. PURE Nightclub was the champion of Las Vegas nightlife Tuesday night as newly crowned WBC Super Welterweight champ "Pretty Boy" Floyd Mayweather Jr., stopped in to party with some friends. Also seen bringing smiles to people's faces at PURE last night was actor and comedian Jamie Kennedy. Earlier in the evening, Lucky Strike Lanes helped Penn Jillette, of Penn & Teller fame; celebrate the birthday of his friend and World Series of Poker bracelet holder Perry Friedman. The two were later joined by several friends, including poker pros Chris Ferguson and Eric Seidel.

Social House was magical Friday evening as new couple Cameron Diaz and Criss Angel came in for a romantic dinner. After dinner, the couple headed down The Strip to PURE Nightclub where they hung out on the terrace. Meanwhile downstairs inside the main room, the monthly MySpace party invaded Sin City. With a packed house on hand, club goers went crazy when hip hop star Fabolous appeared on the main VIP stage to perform a couple of songs. Taking in Fabolous' performance were actors Mena Suvari and Hayden Christensen as well as MySpace founder Tom Anderson. Saturday night, Roselyn Sanchez walked into PURE to promote her new movie "Yellow" with fellow celebs also in the mix including Shaquille O'Neal, Brevin Knight, and Colleen Shannon who spent some time on the turntables. In a story that is literally developing as we type, it appears as though MGM Mirage majority shareholder Kirk Kerkorian is "studying alternatives" for his investment in the gaming giant and plans to enter talks to buy two of the company's biggest assets, the Bellagio and the CityCenter project. MGM Mirage countered by stating that the topic would be discussed at a shareholder's meeting taking place tomorrow and that they would, "respond in due course."

The Mirage Dolphin Habitat has earned accreditation by one of most respected marine care and conservation societies, the Alliance of Marine Mammal Parks and Aquariums. "The recent accreditation of The Mirage Dolphin Habitat indicates the facility excels in providing care for their dolphins," said Alliance Executive Director Marilee Menard.

One insider with PURE Management Group tells us that culinary isn't being forsaken for bottle service at the company's upcoming multi-concept complex at the Luxor Hotel & Casino. We broke the news that former Prime Steakhouse chef Jonathan Snyder would be overseeing the kitchen at the restaurant which would carry the name Aspen 702 (Eye Archives - 06/20/06) nearly a year ago. "Just wait," said our insider, "it's going to be cutting-edge with phenomenal up-scale food." From the sounds of things, expect Aspen to be PMG's most fine-dining restaurant concept to date.

Speaking of PMG, the newly hired VIP kahuna for LAX Nightclub (Luxor) Marko Greisen has been getting a ton of network face time lately. With heiress Paris Hilton hogging headlines while facing a brief stint behind bars, each of the major networks have used the same clip footage of Paris Hilton being interviewed at the Palms during the opening of the Playboy Club. Next to the heiress, looking ever-so dapper in a tuxedo, in each of the clips is Greisen. "My phone's been ringing off the hook, it's pretty funny," laughed Greisen. "It's been playing over and over and over and over again."

Let's just make it a PMG quick bite hat trick. The popular celebrity focused television show Extra recently named the 'Top 5 Places Paparazzi Hang Out to See Celebrities' and predictably four of the five hot-spots were located in La-La land. Perhaps more surprisingly, local party place PURE Nightclub not only made the list, but garnered the #2 placement, after celebrity lunch staple, The Ivy. The remaining three spots to spot the stars were L.A. nightclub Area (#3), boutique Kitson (#4) and storied Asian eatery Mr. Chow (#5).

As reported here first many moons ago, the Rio's Voodoo Lounge has officially changed it's name to Voodoo Steak and Lounge. The change is accompanied by a new menu that offers guests an increased focus on steak and other red meat based inspirations. Oh yes, and of course, the amazing Voodoo view!

On Tuesday, May 29th, Matsuri, the number one musical production in Japan will open in the United States at the Sahara Hotel & Casino. The show features Olympic medalists and world-class athletes performing a combination of acrobatics, dance, stunts and athletics set to high energy music.

We wanted to take a moment to congratulate longtime Eye friend Seth Rogan, star of the up-coming blockbuster hit Knocked Up which hits theaters June 1st. The film, which includes several scenes shot in Las Vegas, is getting rave reviews with many critics anointing it a comedy classic even before it's released. While Rogan is busy in L.A with last night's premier and a long promotional travel schedule ahead of him, we can tell you that his next flick, 'Super Bad', which he co-wrote with Evan Goldberg, will be hitting theaters in August and it is absolutely hilarious (we know because we saw the screening), you can check out the Super Bad trailer by clicking here.

Back in Vegas and over at Tryst Nightclub, rock star operations manager Brian Affronti gets more and more awed with each passing weekend. "We had a guest come in and order 70 bottles of [high priced champagne]," Affronti told the Eye this weekend while explaining how cocktail servers attacked the table from all four corners with bottles and sparklers in hand. He continued that the high roller continued ordering until his tab passed the quarter million mark. When asked what could possibly be next, Affronti smiled and said, "Memorial Day weekend!" Well said buddy …

While rumors circled like vultures the last several months, Edge Group executives have always bravely insisted that the W Hotel Casino Residences project was going to happen, as it turns out, the whispers were right and the executives were not. On Friday, the Edge Group officially announced that the project was a dud, noting that the project, "could not overcome numerous significant challenges." The property, which was initially to include 3,000 hotel-condominiums, 10 restaurants and nightclubs, a large casino, over 300,000 square feet of convention space and a Fred Segal boutique, seemed to grow in size and scope around every turn. When the Clooney/Gerber Las Ramblas pipedream turned into a nightmare, it was Edge who stepped in scooping up another 25 acres of land next door to the W site. Ironically, Las Ramblas realistically died when it went from a 400 room boutique, up-scale property into a 4,000 room mega-resort. With 47 acres of combined land, spiraling construction costs and construction crews tied up around the city; Edge was left with a project that may have quite simply been too big to chew on. This doesn't mean that Edge is necessarily left out in the cold altogether, the 47 acres they possess is right in the middle of the bally-hoed Harmon Corridor and still holds real value. Having doled out $310 million for the land, they are certainly looking at making a profit whether they sell it as one parcel or break it up and sell it separately. Edge says that they have already refunded all monies accepted for condominium sales and would not comment on any plans to sell the land. It will certainly be interesting to see who comes calling for the prime real estate, and what they are willing to pay forit.

Beard Bumbles

We've already aired our disappointment towards the James Beard Foundation and their lack of Vegas representation included in this year's nominees for the highly sought after James Beard Awards. We're not going to repeat our grievances, you can read the original story here, but last week's award ceremony in New York City had even more bizarre disappointments. The only major Las Vegas restaurant eligible for an award was Restaurant Guy Savoy, the luxurious haute cuisine hideout tucked away in a quiet corner of Caesars Palace and the famed Savoy's first restaurant outside of Paris, was up for an award in the Best New Restaurant category. A testament of the Savoy team's hard work and dedication, the award would have been the second for chef de cuisine Adam Sobel (who won the same award at Bradley Ogden in 2004) and a rewarding payoff for Parisian transplants Damien Dulas, who serves as executive chef, and Guy's son, Franck Savoy, who runs the front of the house. Now here is where things get interesting, or actually, pretty ridiculous; taking home the Best New Restaurant title this year was L'Atelier de Joel Robuchon which recently opened its second stateside outlet in the Big Apple, of course, the first opened at MGM Grand last year. Robuchon was up for the same title last year for his more up-scale, ultra-luxurious Joel Robuchon at The Mansion (MGM Grand) but lost to NYC restaurateur Danny Meyer. So let's get this straight; Robuchon cannot win for his original, ode to the tasting menu masterpiece in Las Vegas, but he can win for a casual, counter dining replica located in New York. Hmmm, that's interesting indeed. To the folks at Restaurant Guy Savoy, we want to congratulate you for all of the hard work and excellence you have achieved in this past year. You have changed the face of fine dining in Las Vegas and we thank you for it. Other winners with Las Vegas ties included Thomas Keller (Bouchon – Venetian) winning his bazillionth Beard award, this one for Restaurateur of the Year. In our previous rant against East Coast voter bias, we had also questioned the Beard Foundation's practice of letting chefs sit in the nomination box until they win, this was proved with last week's ceremony when talented and deserving Traci Des Jardins of Jardinière won her Best Chef – Pacific region after seven years as a nominee and Frank McClelland of L'Espalier in Boston took home Best Chef – Northeastern after a long, decade wait as a nominee adding, "It took me a long time to get here, I think 10 years." Curiously, no Las Vegas chef was nominated in the Best Chef – Southwest category, previous nominees, Valentino (Venetian) top chef Luciano Pellegrini won it three years back in his first opportunity, and last year's praised chef, Carlos Guia, is temporarily without kitchen after the closing of Commander's Palace.

On the plus side, acclaimed Wynn Las Vegas executive pastry chef Frederic Robert took home a Beard Award in the Best Cookbook category for his book co-written with Alain Ducasse, "Baking and Dessert for Alain Ducasse: Desserts and Pastries". In the book, Robert shared with readers over 250 dessert recipes he has created during his illustrious career that includes many awards and accolades. Robert and Ducasse have a long history together going back to 1987 when the pair opened the 3-Michelin star outlet, Le Louis XV in Monte Carlo. Robert currently has a signature line of chocolates available throughout Wynn, while overseeing all pastry duties within the property. Congratulations to Frederic Robert on this fantastic honor.

The best ball format tournament, presents a dilemma at each hole; choose from three cards and follow the stated action, whether it be good, bad or just plain ole f-ugly. At the Cabo Wabo Tequila hole, for example, players drawing the f-ugly card must do a Cabo Wobble – essentially, a practice that will force players to do a shot, spin around their driver like a drunken sailor seven times before hitting their tee shot! As another semester ends at the University of Nevada Las Vegas, the next legion of industry professionals is about to be unleashed on an industry hungry for new management talent. That includes the dozen plus students that partook in the third semester of Bryan Bass' growing Nightclub Management course that offers students the unparalleled opportunity to meet and learn from the city's top nightlife minds. Part of the course curriculum requires the students of the class to create and carry out an original nightclub event, which took place a few weeks back. The students submit event concept ideas and then vote on which one to undertake as a class. Final Exam, the class's event, took place at MOON Nightclub (Palms Resort) a few weeks back and while the class had hoped for a turnout of around 800 guests, everyone was blown away when over 1,800 UNLV students turned out, many of the females dressed in school girl attire. "It was a tremendous turnout," said N9NE's marketing maven Mike Fuller, "The students really went over and above to throw a great party." Part of the students' promotional pitch was that the success of the party had an impact on their final grade. "It's very important for the students to take the lessons they are learning and apply them in a working situation," added N9NE's marketing coordinator David Gutierrez, who worked with the students in making the event a reality, before adding, "I really wish that this course had been available when I was in school." As students continue to rave about the course, it has been quick to pick up momentum on campus, even landing a two-page story in the school's Rebel Yell newspaper (click here to read the story). As the class has come to an end, we have to wish double congratulations to Bass' teaching assistant this past semester, Ashlee Earnest, who not only graduated from the University of Nevada Las Vegas this past weekend, but also has accepted the Banquet Coordinator position at the Red Rock Casino Resort Spa. According to Bass, throughout the past two semesters, Earnest has proved herself as a young industry professional who will go on to do great things. "She is very smart and motivated to succeed, she is a fantastic example of the type of graduate the hospitality college at UNLV is producing."

Friday night was extraordinary at Aura Nightclub inside Atlantis as celebrities packed the house and partied until the early morning hours. While ex-wife Britney Spears was home with his children, K-Fed took over the ultra swank Grand Havana Room at Scores Las Vegas for hours. Over a hundred girls were in the room throughout the night entertaining K Fed and his friends in an attempt to help him properly celebrate the holiday.

On Saturday night after the VH1 Rock Honors event Hollywood hotties Drew Barrymore and Cameron Diaz hit Sin City with a vengeance. They first dined at Stack Restaurant & Bar before heading over to Jet where they were joined by Colin Hanks and Criss Angel. On Sunday, Light honored all Mothers and all future mothers with the Fifth annual M.I.L.F. party – the original party honoring hot moms in Las Vegas. While the cocktail servers were wearing white tank-tops that read Future M.I.L.F. the packed house was celebrating the birthday of Light's VIP host extraordinaire Scot McKinley. The nightlife presence and several other nightlife figures helped celebrate this great party. The Spearmint Rhino had a large presence in the house, and other notables including Laine Fust, Tabu's lovely GM, and the beautiful ladies of the Red Modeling Agency.

Laughter was heard all along The Strip on Monday night as some of television's funniest comedians came out for some fine dining and fun at Social House and Lucky Strike Lanes including stand up comedian and talk show host Byron Allen and Carlos "Spanky" Hayes of MTV's Wild 'N Out who showed off his striking skills as he joined in on the high-energy and wacky Beacher's Unprofessional Bowling Association (B.U.B.A.) tournament. Tuesday, at PURE Nightclub, the beautiful ladies of Fashion TV hosted the evening and helped to celebrate mixed martial arts fighter, Frank "Twinkle Toes" Trigg's birthday with fellow MMA fighter Dan Henderson and the Prince of Darkness' daughter, Kelly Osbourne.

Friday night as everyone's favorite girl from next door, Kendra Wilkinson hosted an unforgettable night at the club dubbed "America's hippest hotspot" by E! Entertainment, PURE Nightclub. Wilkinson, Hugh Hefner's youngest girlfriend and reality star of the hit TV show Girls Next Door, celebrated the announcement of her new clothing line K Dub with the help of friends and Kansas City Chiefs running back Larry Johnson. Earlier in the evening, mixed martial arts fighter and former UFC heavyweight champion Kevin "The Monster" Randleman rolled into Lucky Strike Lanes at the Rio. Kelly Osbourne, daughter of rock legend Ozzy Ozbourne, stepped into PURE on Saturday night with fellow MTV reality rebel Bam Margera. Dancing to the fabulous concoction of hits mixed by DJ Hollywood, the two enjoyed a night full of excitement.

Pamela Anderson was spotted hanging out with friends at a table in the Fireplace Lounge at the Playboy Club before moving on to a dance floor table in MOON to finish the night.

Known for its quaint design, The Reading Room inside Mandalay Place, is exactly where you would expect to see Paul Allen. Mr. Allen, co-founder of Microsoft and owner of Seattle Seahawks and the Portland Trail Blazers, was spotted there last Tuesday checking out the unique collection of books at the store.

The VH1 Rock Honors After-Party, which took place last Saturday at the House Of Blues in Las Vegas, raising over $110,000 to benefit the VH1 Save The Music Foundation. Kelly Osbourne, Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks of Genesis, Gretchen Wilson, Carrot Top, Zakk Wylde, Jason Bonham, Criss Angel, Hal Sparks and Tom Calderone (General Manager of VH1) were in attendance at the after-party, as was VH1 Rock Honors host Bam Margera, along with his family. In addition, from May 17th – 27th four Gibson Guitars, each signed by the respective four honorary bands will be put on an online auction to benefit the Foundation.

Eddie Murphy and Tracey Edmunds were seen at the performance of Mystère by Cirque du Soleil on Sunday evening.

Perhaps scarier than the homemade bomb that detonated in the Luxor parking garage killing one man, an employee of a hot dog stand within the property, apparently the victim of a co-worker love triangle turned violent, was that all three love triangle participants were illegal immigrants. Apparently, one of the men was working on property using a fake identification.

Jackie Collins, one of the world's top-selling novelists, will launch her latest book tour in support of Drop Dead Beautiful, her 25th sizzling novel that centers on the glamour of Sin City, with a book signing and reading at Harrah's Las Vegas. Set for Saturday, June 23rd from 1pm – 3pm, the event will be held in The Range Steakhouse at Harrah's Las Vegas and is open to the public.

Last week we wrote about Sapphire Gentlemen's Club charity fundraising poker event benefitting the Sapphire Foundation for Prostate Cancer where big name poker pros and title-hungry amateurs battled it out over the poker felt. When all was said and done, poker pro Michael 'The Grinder' Mizrachi was the one left with all the chips. The next day, a collection of players hit the links for the golf tournament version of the event. At the end of the two-day occasion, Sapphire owner Peter Feinstein, who is a prostate cancer survivor, had raised over $115,000 for the foundation. Way to go guys!

We finally stopped by Paris' new burger joint, Le Burger Brasserie, after multiple pleas from the Harrah's Entertainment PR team and we were pleasantly surprised. To be honest, we had resisted the urge because of similarities with LVFBM Advisory Board Member Hubert Keller's trendsetting Burger Bar (Mandalay Place), but in the end, we're glad we caved. Le Burger Brasserie takes a different approach to the burger palace concept, with more pre-made selections of beef, chicken, lamb and even salmon burger options. It's a good lunch spot and no doubt will do tremendous business in the pathway between Paris and Bally's. With Thomas Keller eyeing plans for a burger concept of his own at the Venetian, it's time to acknowledge the French Keller for his insight and inspiration, while understanding that he can't own such a profitable concept without competition popping up. Try them both and you tell us who owns the rights to burger supremacy in Las Vegas.

Blue Star Mothers of Southern Nevada (BSMSN) partnered up with The Culinary Institute of Las Vegas in honoring hospitalized troops and veterans on Mother's Day at Nellis Air Force Base with a taste of "Mom's warm apple pie." In honor of Mother's Day, the group delivered apple pies to hospitalized troops on the base, many of whom are far from home and could not be with their own mothers on the special day.

A collection of female poker players is going all in for charity at this upcoming World Series of Poker. Entitled the Queen of Hearts, an all female team lead by co-captains Mimi Rodgers and Lisa Tenner have committed that themselves and their team, which includes some notable female poker names like Jennifer Tilly (the '05 winner), J.J. Liu, Vanessa Rousso, Jennifer Leigh, Clonie Gowen, Isabelle Mercier, Mary Jones (the '06 winner) and Susie Isaacs (the '96 and '97 winner), will donate their winnings in the Ladies No Limit Hold'em event to the Las Vegas office of the American Heart Institute and Nevada Cancer Institute. "Getting into the money in order to make a financial contribution is important, but even more critical is putting the spotlight on America's health," said co-captain and Hollywood star Rodgers before adding, "Heart disease and cancer are for the most part preventable and we can all do something to reduce the risk. Risk is essential in poker. It isn't in health."

On Wednesday, May 16th, Sean Christie and the fine folks over at LURE Ultra Lounge will keep the ball rolling with a special Boutique Party that will be giving loaded gift bags from C Level Boutique to industry locals. To share the love, LURE will also NOT be charging a cover for locals who stop by Wednesday night and show local identification. We also hear that LURE Ultra Lounge will be expanding their sphere of influence by adding a Sunday night to their calendar starting May 20th.

Congratulations to PURE Management Group on the official Aura opening which took place in the Bahamas last week at the Atlantis Casino Resort (see Eye Spy for full details). It makes PMG the first locally based nightlife organization to expand outside the market. Don't expect it to be the only PMG brand looking for a home outside of Vegas, nor the only Las Vegas brand to set their sights outside Sin City.

The newest addition to the pantheon of Las Vegas nightlife is moving toward a summertime opening at the Planet Hollywood Hotel & Casino where ASIA Nightlife Dining is preparing to open in the same space that once hosted An family transplant Prana. The new concept from Big Apple club owner Michael Bergos will fuse nightlife and dining within the Asian influenced space, while serving patrons progressive Euro-Asian fare with an intense commitment to a far ranging beverage program. A few weeks back when we broke the news about the Bergos deal, we wrote that he had no intentions of waging war with the big three of corporate nightlife and that has not changed, instead ASIA hopes to settle into an up-scale niche that will do abhorred things like, gasp, waive bottle minimums, set their bottle service ceiling at $300 and never charge local ladies a cover, ever. "We're going to build our business from the ground up," said well-versed marketing guru Andrew Wintner who has signed on as a marketing consultant for ASIA. With notches on his belt from Rande Gerber's Midnight Oil Company, N9NE Group and the Light Group, his marketing talents make ASIA a likable underdog in the big budget battlefield of Las Vegas nightlife. "The venue is great," Wintner continued while adding that fans of the old Prana might have a déjà vous like feeling in ASIA. "We've done upgrades to the sound and lighting systems and brought in new furniture and subtle décor changes. The room definitely will have a similar feel. Michael is doing some work in the space and spending some money on renovations but the reality of the situation is that the An family built a beautiful room and we didn't need to spend $10 million in here." Wintner points out the 2-story venue's special events capabilities, sky box seating and the amazingly accessible private valet as key selling points for the venue. "I think there is a real market for a venue on the Strip that will cater to the people that live and work on and around the Strip," he continued while talking for the first time about a Thursday happy hour promotion, "where people can grab a drink after work, maybe a bite to eat" as well as turning their eye towards Wednesday evenings where the nightclub will make a push for their necessary 'Industry Night'. As for the talented spinsters that will grace the turntables, "We're looking for new talent," says Wintner, adding that Las Vegas DJ's are amazing but, "I want to find the next DJ AM or DJ Vice, we have a ton of really talented DJ's out of New York and Los Angeles scheduled to come play, it's another way we think we can stand out from the pack." On the restaurant side, LVFBM cover chef, renowned gastronomer and master sommelier, Steven Geddes is being given the reins to develop the venue's beverage program, as well as serving as the restaurant's executive chef. "We're going to focus on progressive dining," said an excited Geddes, "While the base of what we do will be Asian, there will be lots of European influences, and the cocktail menu, sake and wine list are all being created to complement the menu." The restaurant will be open for dinner service only Tuesday through Saturday, while the nightclub will be open Friday, Saturday and Wednesday.

Since Geddes is deep in preparation and research on his menu, we will let him be for the time being and circle back a few weeks before opening. Other names that have aligned themselves with ASIA include talented operator Turk Spinuzzi who has overseen operations at TAO Nightclub and Rain Nightclub, has signed on as an Operational Consultant to work with Wintner on getting the venue open. Ali Harrington has signed on as the special events coordinator for ASIA after stops at Rain Nightclub and Cherry Nightclub in similar positions. We asked Wintner about the unavoidable comparisons ASIA will draw to another Asian inspired nightclub/dining complex down the way and he was quick to respond, "TAO is an amazing space and an amazing concept, but we are not competing with them. We are focusing on a different crowd, different marketing, and all that. The menu is very different, they serve more traditional Asian food, we will be very progressive, we have no delusions that we are in their category." With such a grounded approach, and well tested and talented names involved with the project, ASIA certainly has all the tools to succeed.

Since we've just given you the scoop on the brand new nightlife dining venture set to open at the Planet Hollywood on June 14th, it's the perfect time to let you know that ASIA is hosting a job fair to find talented individuals who will help staff the unique, new venture. In last week's Eye we broke the news that MTV was going to be bringing their ultra-hot Video Music Awards show to Las Vegas starting off a beehive of activity. Thursday, the New York Post's gossip gospel Page 6 had run the story (four whole days after us!) and by the end of the week, MTV representatives had confirmed the story while announcing that the VMA's would be held at the Palms Casino Resort's gorgeous new concert facility, Pearl. By basing the event at the Palms, it would appear as though MTV is intent on making a major splash with the award show and its presence in Vegas, creating a weekend of festivities and events that will fall throughout the property and it's venues including the pool deck, nightclubs and, of course, the hotel's plush suites. The actual award show will air in the traditional form only once, after that, repeat broadcasts will instead be remixed versions that will include footage shot from around property throughout the weekend. "We're deconstructing every expectation of what an awards show should be to deliver a music experience for our audience unlike anyone else connecting them beyond television," said Christina Norman, President, MTV in a released statement. "We knew that we didn't have to look any further than the Maloofs and The Palms Casino Resort as they are the perfect partners and have the infamous reputation of throwing star-studded events. We look forward to a weekend of rock n' roll chaos and producing the most sinful and explosive musical showcase of the year." It is expected that over 40 million viewers will tune in for the VMA's, once again helping to expand the sphere of Las Vegas to a national audience. Also expect some pretty serious parties and some interesting nightlife battles for the scores of A-listers who will be touching down for the weekend. As always, remember where you heard it first!

Rocker and tequila aficionado Sammy Hagar has sold his controlling interests in his popular Cabo Wabo Tequila brand to the Gruppo Campari liquor company in a deal that is rumored to be around the $80 million mark. The deal, which will become official January 1st of 2008, keeps Hagar as part of the brand by retaining approx 20% ownership of the brand. "When I created Cabo Wabo, I never dreamed that it would be received so well by my fans and people who really love good tequila," said Sammy Hagar. "While I am proud of its success, it's time to let the world have a shot at the best tequila on the planet and Campari can help take us there." Interestingly, the deal does not include Hagar's blossoming restaurant brand, Cabo Wabo Cantina. Insiders close to the Red Rocker hint that this move could mean a greater focus on expansion of the Cantina brand which would include a long anticipated move to Las Vegas. It is expected that the launch of Hagar's super premium tequila, Cabo Uno, will continue as planned later this summer. It should be noted that during an exclusive interview with Las Vegas Food & Beverage Magazine for last November's Beverage Issue, that Hagar had noted that he was close to maxing out Cabo Wabo's growth. As the brand continues to grow, supported by Hagar's legions of fans, it may have simply grown too big for Hagar who has an extremely hectic touring schedule on top of his Cantina business and the tequila brand. It is clear that by partnering with a company with global distribution, he has made the decision that for Cabo Wabo to become a worldly recognized name, he couldn't do it by himself.

The MAIN Event Succeeds Again

When we created The MAIN Event party series almost three years ago, we knew that our industry friends would relish the opportunity to hang out, socialize, party and network in Vegas' hottest new venues. When the good folks over at TAO wanted to introduce their brand new poolside venue to the industry, they knew there was no better way to do so than to host the city's most successful, longest running industry party. "I couldn't think of a better way to introduce the TAO Beach to the local industry scene then with The MAIN Event," noted TAO honcho, Jason Strauss. Last week, with the Industry Opening of TAO Beach, hundreds of industry locals poured into the venue to dance under the stars and see what all the hype was about while enjoying deliciously handcrafted cocktails from Ketel One Vodka and Right Gin expertly mixed with Red Bull Energy Drink. Coors Light, Mike's Hard Lemonade and Nestle Water provided refreshments for those avoiding the hard alcohol options and an amazing evening was had by all. "It was a great party and we're happy that the venue was so well received," Strauss continued before adding, "I haven't seen that many local industry heavyweights in one room in a long time!" Well of course, that's just how we roll baby! We wanted to thank everyone who stopped by to enjoy the festivities and see TAO Beach for the first time, we know you weren't disappointed. "First and foremost I want to thank everyone who came to celebrate or reached out to me with birthday wishes," said Bass. "Las Vegas can be a weird town sometimes, but within all of that, it's clear that I am lucky to have cultivated an outstanding circle of friends. A lot of people took it upon themselves to do some really amazing things for me and I really want to thank each and every one of them. It was truly a weekend I'll remember for the rest of my life!"

The Men's Club is making an attempt to break into the midweek after hours market with the launch of a new weekly promotion entitled Plan B. The Industry After Hours party will take place each and every Tuesday night, hoping to capitalize on the popular midweek club night, and will begin at 3A each week with famed after hours DJ, Chris Garcia working the turntables in the club. The late night dining menu and a full sushi menu is being made available to late night partiers, as well as a special buy one-get one bottle service offer to industry groups. One witness who attended last week's launch of Plan B was left raving, "Garcia just killed it and there were tons of industry people just hanging out and talking shop, it was a really cool vibe." This is the beginning of a back-to-basics movement from The Men's Club after the departure of executive chef Steven Geddes and several other key staff. The influx of new management and employees includes Vegas Club Scene's Brett Pojunis who has been tagged as the new Director of Promotions and former Seamless VIP hostess, Shelby Vance, who will head up VIP Services. Already two new hosts have been added to Vance's stable in Brandon Walker, formerly of Late Night Empire and Studio 54, and Brian Dechirico, formerly of Body English and Light. Lastly, former SCORES marketing man Phil Stamper has been named the club's new Director of Marketing.

Weather be damned, nearly two thousand locals braved the overcast weather to help The Palms launch their weekly pool party, Ditch Fridays last Friday afternoon. The promotion that taunts locals to ditch their cubicles and desks in favor of cabanas and chaise lounges got off to a great start and is expected to continue building momentum in coming weeks. With Palms owner George Maloof walking the pool deck, playing host and buying cocktails for locals eager to get an early start on the weekend, it's clear that the Palms and N9NE Group are set on making Ditch one of the city's most popular on-going promotions. "This year we have lots of special surprises," said N9NE marketing maven Mike Fuller, "Right Gin will have three cabanas throughout the entire summer because there is a right way to ditch Fridays," Fuller continued using the clever marketing slogan Right Gin is promoting. "We will be using the bungalow's for different things throughout the summer and the upper pool is being created as a VIP area for industry locals and the radio contest winners." Sunday nights star studded poker tournament benefiting the Sapphire Foundation for Prostate Cancer was energy packed from the first donation buy-in. With many of the top celebrity poker players adding to the overall excitement, the Foundation produced more donations to get their place back in the game than in any of the past three years. The celebrity players on tap were Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi, Eli Elezra, Jennifer Harmon, Layne Flack, Gavin Smith and David Levi. Eli, himself, contributed to the vibe by continuously going "all-in", winning, and then passing out his own chips to those he just sent out of the game. With the energy still holding on to three of the four tables full of players, the elimination started…By 11:00pm, it was down to the final six charity poker players…Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi, Layne Flack, Michael of Poolside Pineapple, Gavin Smith, Paul and Larry Abramson. With the tension mounting, the first to be eliminated was Paul, then Michael of Poolside Pineapple. The final four were; 4th place…Larry Abramson, 3rd place…Gavin Smith, 2nd place…Layne Flack and the winner of the 2007 Sapphire Foundation Poker Tournament was Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi. All the donations were made to the Sapphire Foundation for Prostate Cancer with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the Nevada Cancer Institute.

In a scary incident over the weekend, a man was killed at the Luxor Hotel parking garage after an apparent bomb stuffed into a backpack was placed on his car. Obviously the details on the story are really hush, hush. But, from what we hear the man was actually a Luxor executive targeted by an ex-employee. Thank goodness this story hasn't landed the dirty 'T' word tag.

We've been able to confirm the rumors that TAO Beach will be launching their Sunday evening promotion brilliantly titled 'Sunset Sessions' on Sunday, May 20th. We've also heard that one extremely well known local scene-ster has signed on to help push the promotion to influential industry locals. The promotion will feature "sexy, vocal house music" and is aimed towards popular sunset parties that are a staple in party hardy cities like Ibiza.

In other TAO Beach news, as of this Saturday night, the outdoor, poolside venue will be open at 10P as an extension of the nightclub throughout the summer months, weather permitting. As much talk as TAO Beach is getting during the day, people are raving about how the venue looks at night.

We think that things have officially calmed down enough from the last big bash, The Greatest Party on Earth, the four venue blowout that rocked the Nightclub & Bar Convention, to bring The MAIN Event back for another very special party, the Industry Opening of TAO Beach. Last week we broke down the new venue, along with breaking news revealing TAO's master plan for the future, and now it's time to get in there and break this bad boy in! On Thursday, May 3rd at 9P, The MAIN Event will introduce the industry to one of the city's newest and hottest venues in TAO's new roof-top, poolside venue. From the Bali-inspired décor, to the amenity stocked cabanas, to the 100-Buddha head bar, to the four, 15-foot fire columns, to the scenic DJ booth, the venue will be in full affect offering up a taste of what is sure to be one of the hottest summer venues on the Strip. We aren't the only one's excited about our up-coming evening under the stars, "I couldn't think of a better way to introduce TAO Beach to the locals than The MAIN Event," noted TAO honcho Jason Strauss before adding, "We are thrilled to have The MAIN Event back at TAO again!" According to well placed sources, MTV has decided to bring their hugely popular Video Music Awards show celebrating the best music and videos of the past year to Las Vegas. "It's definitely coming to Vegas," said our source, hinting that the decision had already been made and was starting to circulate internally. While it would appear that no location has yet been named to host the event, MTV staffers are working hard to find an appropriate venue. After reading this breaking news, no doubt that nightclub owners across the city are already salivating over the dozens of big name stars that the show attracts as well as the big spending hoi-polloi that are sure to follow the award show to Las Vegas. Of course, that doesn't include the massive coverage our city would receive with a disposable income spending demographic that tunes into MTV on a regular basis. Although the VMA's, which started in 1984, were created as an alternative to the Grammy's, it has become a pop culture barometer of what is hot while bestowing 'Moon Men' to winning artists. The show has traditionally been held in New York City, Los Angeles and Miami. On the bigger picture, with the Billboard Music Awards, Country Music Awards and many other large scale award shows making pilgrimages to Las Vegas, the VMA's would help sew up Sin City as a true, alternative host city for shows of these kinds. Ditch Fridays Launch - Friday, May 4th

With the pool season now fully upon us, The Palms Resort and the N9NE Group are ready to unleash their summertime offering when Ditch Fridays launches for its second installment this Friday. The weekly pool party that has offices preparing to empty and bosses preparing to wonder where their staffs went is looking to build off of the success of last year's introduction while adding some special surprises to lure sunbathers out of work. Not only did the event consist of Kim Kardashian look alikes but also a hilarious rap from Pete G who went into the studio with Lockwood to record the special track. Revered travel gospel, Conde Nast, recently released their annual list of the planet's hottest new hotels, restaurants and watering holes and several Las Vegas venues found their way onto the list. It's a seemingly odd bunch with some glaring omissions and somehow only touches three properties in the entire city. Oh well, perhaps the editorial and advertising departments are taking their lunch a little too closely together. Don't get us wrong; on the restaurant-side, the awards and acclaim deservedly continue to pour in for celebrated chef Guy Savoy and his first restaurant opened outside of France in Restaurant Guy Savoy. With Savoy heir, Franck, brilliantly touching tables in the dining room and a Cross-Atlantic tag team power house of Damien Dulas and Adam Sobel in the kitchen, it's no wonder the haute cuisine hotspot was nominated for a Best New Restaurant from the James Beard Foundation. Also, landing on the restaurant list was another Caesars Palace eatery in NYC transplant, and in our opinion Caesar's second best Italian restaurant after Il Mulino, Rao's. It wasn't the only Italian eatery to make the list either, as the N9NE Group's newest restaurant venture, Nove Italiano, also landed a spot on the list, buoyed in part by the one dish everyone can agree on, even Conde Naste, the Nove Spaghetti. Nightlife wise, the Playboy Club's appearance on the list has to confirm the revitalized brand's place in the current cultural lexicon, while big brother, MOON Nightclub also received special mention as being North American's only retractable roof nightclub. That would make a trifecta for the N9NE Group's three new venues in the Palm's new Fantasy Tower, and has to feel somewhat satisfying for N9NE owner Michael Morton and Scott DeGraff, who designed the new outlets, regardless of what his current situation might be. But then again, Conde Nast has always had a thing for what N9NE offers, as N9NE Steakhouse has been a longtime resident on Conde Nast's Top 100 Restaurants in the World list. On the hotel side, Red Rock Resort, Casino & Spa was the only Las Vegas property represented, also earning a double nod as one of only several properties on the list where room rates dipped below the $200 mark. Red Rock was one of the better North American properties reviewed, earning the boast of "self-contained oasis" for the "those that have been there, done that". Rounding out the list was the Spa section which once again went back to the same properties; Caesars Palace and Red Rock. We found that last nomination the most curious, especially because of the experience we wrote about at the RR spa awhile back; complimentary pink ladies razors in the men's spa, no hot water to use the pink razor with and befuddling motion sensor sinks that make shaving a nightmare. While we appreciate the attention the magazine is bringing to Las Vegas, we just ask them to widen their scope next time around.

Brown-Forman has announced that it is putting up for sale its Paso Robles, California winery and vineyards. When the Paso Robles winery and related vineyards are sold, Brown-Forman will continue to own the Five Rivers brand trademark and produce and market the wines. In a somewhat similar move last year, Brown-Forman sold its Bolla wine production facility in Pedemonte, Italy to Gruppo Italiano Vini (GIV), while retaining ownership of the Bolla brand trademark. "Our focus for Five Rivers will remain on producing wines reflecting the spirit of the Central Coast," said Brown-Forman Senior Vice President of Global Production Jim Chiles. "Within our wine making operations, we continue to seek production synergies which will improve the cost structure and profitability of our wine brands while ensuring our wine quality exceeds the expectations of our consumers."

Over at Jet Nightclub, marketing master mind Steven Lockwood not only brought in the celebrities but also created the best interactive skits to involve the crowd with the Ray J Adult video Release Party being no exception. Hip-hop star and brother to Brandy Norwood Ray-J celebrated the release of his first motion picture, starring Ray-J and a certain Hollywood socialite (known for throwing Princess parties) at a club across the street last week, but Ray-J wanted to officially unveil his secret sexual romps to the world like any amateur porn star would - at a nightclub party in Las Vegas. After posing for pictures on the red carpet and answering questions from inquiring reporters, Ray-J soon entered the clubs exclusive VIP section where he mingled with a multi-cultural mix of equally beautiful babes.

Local Las Vegas emcee Pete Giovine later addressed the jam packed crowd with a special welcome for the star, congratulating him on his big screen debut and offering a contest to the crowd. The Entertainer Appreciation Party last Monday at Sapphire turned out to be a huge success. There were hundreds in attendance including entertainers from the larger, more popular clubs around town. The Event lasted twice as long as scheduled; only proving that the Men of Sapphire Show can hold its audience for hours! In other Sapphire news, The Sapphire Golf Tournament is sold out; however those not playing in the Charity Event on Monday, May 7th are invited to please join Sapphire for the Dinner Ceremony to Benefit the Sapphire Foundation for Prostate Cancer. It seems as though Seattle Supersonics owner Clay Bennett is serious about moving the Pacific Northwest basketball team to Las Vegas should the Emerald City not build the team a new arena. It was thought that the Oklahoma native was interested in taking the team to Oklahoma City but he told the Seattle Chamber of Commerce, "Vegas would likely be a more attractive market than Oklahoma City."

After Gwen Stefani's self declared "friends and family show" at the Palm's gorgeous new Pearl, the sultry songstress is returning for bigger concert at the MGM Grand Arena in June. From 2,500 seats to over 14,000, hmmm, no wonder artists are buzzing about George Maloof's intimate theatre.

At last Monday's installment of Beacher's Unprofessional Bowling Association (B.U.B.A.), The Vegas Eye team took to the hardwood for the second round of action and once again, somehow, unexplainably, pulled out another victory to advance to next round of ten-pin mayhem. Ok, we did have some extra help, PMG's stellar Director of Operations, Greg 'J' Jarmolowich got things rolling before handing the lead-off spot to our CEO, Michael Politz. After a few frames, Politz mysteriously suffered a lower torso injury which doctors blamed on his bowling form which includes a wild flop onto one knee moments before firing the ball down the lane. Luckily, Vegas Eye friend and former Baywatch star, Jeremy Jackson stepped up the plate and closed out Politz' frames strong. A team effort to say the least! Does this mean the nightmare has to continue?

This Wednesday (5/3), Spider-Man leaps to The Venetian Resort Hotel & Casino before he moves into Madame Tussauds Las Vegas for an extended visit, resting below the giant Madame Tussauds sign just above the entrance to Sephora.

Apparently folks under the big top aren't big fans of raw fish. Circus, Circus' months old Japanese offering, Sushi, Etc. closed permanently last week.

We have been able to confirm yet another of the numerous restaurants that will be opening in the up-coming Palazzo Tower. Look for national restaurant operator B.R. Guest to bring their Los Caminos concept to Las Vegas in Venetian's upcoming third tower.

Superstar rapper MIMS (aka Shawn Mims) will perform this Saturday, May 5th live on Polly Esther's intimate stage beginning at 12:30am. His independent release, "This Is Why I'm Hot," set NY radio stations on fire and led to its full-length, critically acclaimed debut album, Music Is My Savior. We just have to laugh when pride gets in the way of accurate journalism. The current issue of the Las Vegas Weekly contained a story about TAO Beach by GMG associate editor Justin Jimenez. Well certainly well-written, the story used a gossip pitchman as a source, stating that condoms would be part of the amenity package offered to cabana guests at TAO Beach. The only problem is that they aren't offered at the Beach, but have been offered in the nightclub since opening. Of course, we broke the TAO Beach coverage accurately, but relying on another journalist in the GMG family provided false content to their readers. At least the nightlife editor caught the error …or obviously not. On a somewhat related note, when we use the Weekly as a source, it is cited as such. Isn't it curious that as the number one source of breaking industry information in Las Vegas, the words 'Eye on Vegas' or 'Vegas Eye' have appeared in the Weekly only twice in the last two years. We thought so too, something about cutting off your nose…

Can anyone say hat trick? With TAO Asian Bistro regularly crossing the 1,400 cover-mark and TAO Nightclub consistently sold out of VIP bottle service tables, it's no wonder that the industry and general public alike are highly anticipating next week's opening of the third component to the TAO complex, TAO Beach. Located directly above the nightclub, a mere stone's throw away from the Venetian's pool complex, TAO Beach might just be introducing Sin City's most premium, poolside experience. With a heavy focus on amenities and services, TAO's classic panache for Asian influenced décor and a grass roots style marketing approach, the management team at TAO believes they have a hit on their hands, and we have to agree. Even more amazing than what is awaiting sunbathers and day-walking partiers at the beach, is the master plan for the TAO brand and what may be coming next. However, before jumping into future growth and development, let's get to the goodies that TAO Beach will be offering.

During an exclusive, sneak-peek tour with two of TAO's ownership quartet, Rich Wolf and Jason Strauss, it's clear that the TAO Beach venue was a challenge for the team. "Everything has a different twist because the venue was created for the daytime; the layout, the service formula, the marketing of the venue all requires a different approach," said nightlife honcho Strauss before explaining how the unique TAO Beach experience will offer guests a 'WOW' factor from the moment they walk in the door. While the footprint the venue resides on is close to 18,000 square feet, the space is well broken up with a larger pool in the middle of the venue and a smaller 'dipping' pool off to the side. Seven amenity-laden cabanas and numerous daybeds dot the pool deck with mini-refrigerators at each one. In the cabanas, guests will find not only fridges but also plasma televisions, 360 Xbox gaming stations, DSL internet access and DVD libraries that are made available to guests. "We will have professional misters," Strauss continues with a smile while comparing the position to a daytime version of TAO's Mood Director. "They will help our guests control and regulate their temperature to ensure maximum comfort by the pool." There will be sunglass cleaners to clean the specs of lounging guests, who will also be offering complimentary service of frozen fruit, frozen yogurt and even the retro-classic Freezies throughout the day. This is all in addition to a ton of original amenities like iPod rentals, complimentary sandals, and of course, what's an upscale pool experience without terrycloth towels! While the cabanas and daybeds will be reserved with minimums, tanning ladies shouldn't have to work that hard to find a spot in the sun, especially with a forty-foot giant day bed that will be reserved for women sporting plastic 'Buddha Bands', limited edition wristbands that will be given to local, industry ladies, reserving them a spot on the day bed. The main bar, located alongside the back of the venue, is backed by 100 calming Buddha heads that look over the venue and will certainly approve of the topless sunbathing that the private, 21+ pool deck will most certainly bring. The requisite DJ booth also got special attention for the design team, located above the pool and fronting a working fountain, the lush, green set-up is picturesque to say the least and Strauss believes, "It's one of the most beautiful DJ booths I've ever seen."

While TAO Beach will focus on the sunlight hours, the venue will also be used for nighttime activities, starting with several planned happy hour promotions and an alleged 'Sunset Sessions', house music-inspired Sunday evening party. Later in the night, the venue will become an extension of the club, with four centered 14-foot, fire columns shooting flames into the night, proving that not all of the fun was saved for the daytime. During daylight hours, guests will enter TAO Beach via the Venetian swimming pool entrance, however, a nighttime entrance located on the concourse outside TAO will enable visitors to skip the crushed front door and climb their way to the pool via an internal stairway. The usual TAO suspects will be helping out with the beach club with newly hired Chad Saunders, shouldering a large bulk of the responsibility. Saunder's is a great fit for TAO Beach having cut his teeth with promoter Jack LaFleur at the Hard Rock Hotel's weekly pool party Rehab. With a connection to the city's biggest daytime party, industry locals will feel comfortable trusting Chad's choice of pool side venue.

While TAO Beach should have you excited, it's just the beginning for the blossoming hospitality company that has an ambitious master plan for the future. "TAO Started as a restaurant brand," says Wolf, referring to the NYC original that consistently ranks as one of the nation's highest grossing independent restaurants, "when we came to Las Vegas we added a nightclub component and a banquet component because we are based in a convention hotel. " Wolf continues speaking publicly of TAO's master plan for the first time, "The strength of the brand deserved more components, and with the addition of the TAO Beach club, that makes three. We also have two more components in development, the TAO Hotel brand and the TAO Spa brand." So it would seem as though the future is bigger than anyone might have guessed. "Each of these brands is hospitality driven and as such, they are natural extensions of each other. This will enable us to go anywhere in the world with any combination of the five, or even all five!" Wolf quickly quiets when probed on where future TAO facilities might land, however, rumors centering on Miami, Los Angeles, Cabo San Lucas and Dubai in the Arab Emirates have all surfaced at one time or another. Wolf does concede that there are currently three front-runners for the next TAO complex, as well as plenty of offers on the table in various destinations. "We will go where it makes sense," he adds. For Wolf, TAO Beach is simply the next step in the brand's progression, "This venue was really a new canvas for TAO, and it will help take us one step closer to the master plan!"

Deals Abound

By the time the dust had settled from a wild and wooly week in Strip-side real estate, MGM Mirage had expanded their boulevard holdings while Carl Icahn had bowed out, with a hefty profit in his pocket, and an Aussie playboy finally got his foothold in Las Vegas. It all started last week when MGM Mirage purchased a bulk of North Strip real estate from both the Gordon Gaming Corporation (36 acres) and Concord Wilshire Acquisitions (8 acres) for a total price of $575 million, a sales figure that will most likely prove to be a bargain for the gaming giant. The parcels of land lay adjacent to the 44-acre parcel where the MGM Mirage-owned Circus, Circus Hotel & Casino currently sits opening the road for another large, scale development from MGM Mirage in the undetermined future. "This new land provides us with a much-improved position to develop our existing North Strip holdings," said a statement released by MGM Mirage chief executive Terry Lanni. "We see this as an opportunity to not only harness the power of our portfolio, but also as a means to expand and enhance the operations of our valuable Circus Circus property for years to come," he continued. The new 78-acre parcel of land, would make any development larger than the CityCenter project currently under construction on 66 acres of land on Las Vegas Boulevard. This move would also end any dreams of a Maxim Magazine Casino, which was to be constructed on Concord Wilshire's eight acres. In all, MGM Mirage will have a footprint that will reach from Boyd Gaming's mega-project Echelon Place, which is going up on the former Stardust land, almost all the way up to Sahara Avenue. Across the street, and a touch north, Carl Icahn has sold the Stratosphere, and three other Nevada gaming properties, to Goldman Sachs Group's real estate side for $1.3 billion. The deal also includes both Arizona Charlie's locations and the newly renovated Aquarius Casino Resort in Laughlin, Nevada. The enigmatic Icahn's American Real Estate Partners is reportedly profiting nearly $1 billion in barely eight years in the casino business. Lastly, the Australian company Publication and Broadcasting Limited (PBL) has finally succeeded in their efforts to break into the North American gaming market by purchasing nearly 20% of the upcoming Fountainbleau project (Eye Archives – 05/23/05) that is being constructed on the former El Rancho land. The company operated by the son of legendary gambler Carey Packer will be working with former Mandalay Resorts Group honcho Glenn Schaeffer and Turnberry Associates principle Jeffrey Soffer. Add last month's purchase of the legendary Sahara by Los Angeles mogul Sam Nazarian and the north end of the Strip is suddenly a happening place, or at least it should be the turn of the next decade.

Final Exam

Regular readers of the Vegas Eye know that our multi-talented, Vice Prez, Bryan Bass, volunteers his time to his alma mater, the University of Nevada Las Vegas, to teach the country's only university accredited Nightclub Management class. The class, which is now in its third semester, offers hospitality students a rare opportunity to meet and learn from Las Vegas' nightlife elite via field trips to the city's hottest venues and in-depth class seminars with nightlife movers and shakers serving as guest speakers. For the second consecutive semester, Bass is putting his students to the test requiring them to build and host a nightlife driven event at the nightclub of their choice. Enter, Final Exam, a student created event that will take place at MOON Nightclub at the Palms Casino Resort on Sunday, April 29th. The success of the event and the student's participation in the event will actually and quite literally impact their final grade as the event is one portion of the student's actual final exam. 'You can retake the class, but you can't relive the party," is our tagline said one of the conceptual team leaders and UNLV senior, Joe Colletti. "This event will be a lot of fun and provide the students of UNLV a great opportunity to celebrate the end of the semester at one of the city's hottest nightclubs. We want everyone to come join us and party with the UNLV student body!" N9NE Group's director of marketing, Mike 'The Funkler' Fuller, shared Colletti's excitement, "Vegas nightlife moves at such a fast pace, we can't forget about the next generation of leaders in our field." The class settled on MOON as the host for the event after an in-class vote and then created elements that would fit into the concept of the event and the venue. "For this event, we are giving up our facility to a group of eager, young students to help take the knowledge that have learned in this class and put it to practice," Fuller continued before giving the students a little hazing, "I am confident that they will pull through and do us proud, because if they don't, I will be advising Bass to flunk them all!" All UNLV students will receive free admission with their Rebel ID card and women dressed as naughty school girls will receive complimentary cocktails from 11P-1A.

Dining Out for Life

ENVY the Steakhouse in the Renaissance Las Vegas Hotel is proud to announce their participation in the annual Dining Out For Life. Held on one day each year, Dining Out For Life is an annual fundraising event involving the generous participation of volunteers, corporate sponsors and restaurants that was created in 1991 by an ActionAIDS volunteer in Philadelphia. ENVY the Steakhouse is among a number of Las Vegas restaurants that will donate a portion of their proceeds from this one special night of dining to Saint Therese Center. Over $2 million dollars a year is raised to support the missions of agencies throughout North America. Pizza Party

One reason for Tryst Nightclub's success is the family atmosphere that managing partners Jesse and Cy Waits have created with their staff, a philosophy continued by their stellar general manager, Kyle Madden. Last week, Madden heard several members of the staff complaining how they couldn't find good delivery pizza in Las Vegas and hatched a plan. Madden, called one of his friend in Los Angeles, who is known for providing top notch pie on movie sets and in his own parlor, and had a request, would he deliver forty large pizzas to the Tryst staff Saturday night? The friend agreed and loaded up his pizza truck with the pies that were cooked nearly to completion (they are then finished in the Tryst kitchen). "This how we do it," Madden said while inviting us down to try and slice, "Delivered fresh from Los Angeles to Las Vegas!" The steady operations guy continued by adding, "Only the best for my staff and friends, it's my motto." It's a great example of why the Tryst staff toil as tireless promoters for the club when they aren't working and legitimately look like they are having fun when they are working. The family-first mentality truly creates a vibe amongst the staff that extends to the customer. So how did the pizzas go over? Humorously, we got a text a few hours later that simply stated, "Bruce Willis is in the house enjoying a slice," when we asked how the legendary actor was enjoying his well-travelled pizza, we could envision the smile spreading across Madden's face as he typed his response, "Everyone loves a good pie!"

George's Pearl

Last Saturday night, Palms Casino Resort boss George Maloof officially opened the newest addition to his property when he unveiled Pearl, his new concert venue with an opening night bash from seductive songstress Gwen Steffani. "This feels like a friends and family show," the former No Doubt singer chirped into the microphone drawing a loud roar from the crowd, "It's like a sound check." For acts like Stefani which are more accustomed to filling 18,000-seat arenas, it must feel intimate on stage in front of only several thousand, and that's a very good thing. Saying that Maloof might have just opened the best live music venue in Las Vegas, isn't really a reach, Pearl is absolutely gorgeous. From the amazing acoustics and sound system, to the exclusive high rolling private boxes, the place has it all. With former Hard Rock Hotel booking agent Andrew Hewitt at the helm, look for Pearl to start booking some big name acts as the summer progresses. The fact that Pearl is hardwired into the Palms Recording Studio making artists salivate over live recordings with studio sound is just the cherry on the sundae.

We can understand why you might have been skeptical when we first wrote about Jeffrey Beacher and his upcoming re-launch of his popular Hard Rock variety show, Beacher's Madhouse. Beacher would probably admit that he is the king of the PR stunt but it would seem as though he has found renewed dedication in making the Madhouse a success the second time around. Sources out of the Beacher camp has the suddenly slimming comic pulling all-nighters with his creative and production teams to ensure the all-new variety show format is a hit. "He's pulling out every stop and every favor," said a source who asked to remain anonymous, "He's been hitting every local music and karaoke venue looking for new talent and the response for next week's audition has been tremendous." Speaking of the auditions, they are taking place next Tuesday, May 1st at 5P inside The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel and are open for anyone interested in joining the show as a go-go dancer, variety act or even to take place in the all-new air guitar contest. Rumors also have Howard Stern sidekick Artie Lang signing a deal to perform at July's show, the new format calls for one Madhouse monthly as opposed to the weekly format initially used. After a hard day's work hosting Victoria Secret's "What is Sexy" event in Las Vegas on Wednesday, super-stunners Heidi Klum and Karolina Kurkova had a hankering for dinner and the warm banana doughnuts served at FIX Restaurant & Bar located at Bellagio, but time constraints wouldn't allow them get to the other side of the Strip from their suite at the Venetian to satiate their craving. Due to unruly winds and an unseasonably cold day, the BARE Pool (Mirage) staff postponed their Sunday, April 22nd grand opening party until next weekend on Sunday, April 29th. While staffers scrambled to call invite guests to let them know of the change, they were uber-professional by honoring the hosted bar for sunbathers who didn't get the message and showed up anyway. The funny thing is it might work out to their benefit; they already had house music maven Donald Glaude booked for next Sunday anyway.

Rumors were circulating as far back as three years ago regarding popular sushi restaurant Sushi Samba and its goal to land an outpost in Las Vegas. Currently, the brand has four outlets; one each for Miami, New York, Chicago and Tel Aviv, Israel with a 5th outlet expected to touchdown in Dallas, Texas next month. The rumors have become renewed in recent days with a new alleged space inside the Venetian's upcoming Palazzo Tower.

Speaking of the Palazzo Tower, the residential condo units that are being constructed above the Barney's retail area may just ring in as the most expensive Strip-side real estate when all is said and done. Condo sales, which are expected to begin in September, are now estimated with starting prices at $1,500 per square foot that are expected to rise. Yikes!

The free Jazz in the Park concert series will welcome national acts for its 13th year at the Clark County Amphitheatre. Saxophonist Paul Taylor will launch the series on May 5th, followed by vocalist Jimmy Scott on June 2nd and Bill Frisell performing on June 9th. All shows begin at 8pm. We got an email this week from the N9NE Group's marketing maestro, Michael Fuller, regarding a Friday night promotion at the Hard Rock Hotel's Body English that invites guests to come celebrate a 21st birthday with a Playboy Bunny. "For the record," began Fuller, "the girls involved with the promotion are Playmates and not Bunnies. The only place in the world that has Bunnies is the Playboy Club," Fuller continued speaking of the high-end gaming lounge located at the Palms Casino Resort. Reports out of the N.B.A. head office in New York has the league keeping a very open mind to the possibility of Las Vegas landing the Seattle Supersonics franchise which appears dead-set to leave the Pacific Northwest. The league is putting together an owners committee that will review the Las Vegas situation, "we're not sitting still," added deputy commissioner Adam Silver. Maybe that whole All Star thing is working after all … Pieces (of Ass) will be returning to Las Vegas this June for an open-ended engagement at the Steve Wyrick Entertainment Complex inside the Planet Hollywood Casino. This groundbreaking production features a series of original "Pieces" delievered by a cast of the country's most dynamic actresses, exploring what it is that defines an attractive woman – from perks and privliges, to the problems and pressures.

Congratulations to the Las Vegas Wranglers who tied a professional hockey record this weekend by winning their 18th consecutive game. This ties the Wranglers with the record set by the Peoria Rivermen nearly twenty years ago. In case you are wondering, the National Hockey League record is 15 consecutive wins which was achieved by both the Gordie Howe -led Detroit Red Wings (1955) and the New Jersey Devils (2006).

Speaking of the sleek stuff, ICE: Direct From Russia, Las Vegas' newest and most exciting production, glides into the Versailles Theatre at the Riviera Hotel and Casino this Wednesday, April 25th. ICE, adapted and directed by renowned choreographer Debra Brown, features 42 of Russia's most disciplined and athletic ice performers, guiding audiences on a magical journey from the bitter cold of Moscow to warmth and vibrant colors of the Las Vegas desert.

South Beach big shot Roman Jones told the Miami Herald that the first Opium Group outlet to open in Las Vegas will be 'Living Room', which is being billed as a sexy lounge and we're guessing it will fill the same role as the entryway lounge to the former Curve Nightclub. He continued adding that the second venue would be Prive in September (in the Curve space) and a third, boite, which would debut in the fall. In case you're a little rusty, boite is French for nightclub.

Changes are a brewing atop the Foundation Room. Rumors have musical director and Godspeed mainstay Keith Evans stepping away from the weekly Monday evening promotion.

On Friday night, when four media outlets met at Polly Esther's to host the Battle of the Media, who knew what would happen? Well we did, but only because we weren't resting on our laurels, we were taking the battle to the streets, okay fine, to the stage. While the other media outlets made preparations to impress, The Vegas Eye made plans to blow people's minds with our very own all-star rock band, the A-Team, consisting of rocking musicians who have played in a few bands you may have heard of; Alice Cooper, Vince Neil, Faster Pussycat and Warrant. With a nearly 2-hour long set, the A-Team went from 80's hit to 80's mega-hit and everyone in the club was jamming along. Halfway through the set, the Battle of the Media was all but over. Proving the point, mainstays at other media companies couldn't help but jam out including Greenspun Media Group's (who was not part of the event) Jeremy Ginsburg and 944's Matt Kelemen, who got down and dirty to the Aerosmith classic, 'Walk this Way'. The high point of the band's set happened out of nowhere, when Skye, from the Las Vegas Hilton's Menopause show, jumped on stage during 'Knockin' on Heaven's Door' and joined the band for a 20-minute gospel version of the classic. It wasn't just the general public that was transfixed either, former Beach Boy Billy Hinsche was blown away, as were Eye friends Quiet Riot who stopped by after their show at the Silverton just to witness the A-Team's first ever concert. If you missed it, you had fair warning; we told you the band would rock!

Thanks to Polly Esther's for letting us show off and helping with a fantastic night. If you haven't stopped by the club at Stratosphere, it's quite a sight. With four rooms promoting four different decades and four different musical formats it's the only nightclub of its kind in Las Vegas with each room is branded with kitschy icons of the era it's celebrating. Body English hosted their Student Body English promotion last Sunday and at least one nightlife organization isn't taking it lightly. "Are you telling me that we are so uneventful that they can't put one of our employees in their promotion," said an insider with the N9NE Group who didn't land one nominee among the dozen or so categories. "I can't stand when companies intentionally leave others out," the N9NE staffer continued while hinting that a rivalry between the hard rocking property to the east and the Palms Resort has been renewed in recent months, buoyed by the Hard Rock's Dorm Days event and the similarity it holds to the Palms predecessor, The Big Sleep Over. "I would like to create a new category called 'Most Unpopular' and then only put N9NE Group employees in it," our insider added tongue-in-cheek. When reached for comment, Body English's uber-promoter Jack LaFleur stated, "I certainly hope there's no thought of any person or group, N9NE Group in particular, being 'kept' out of the event. It was strictly a case of no one being nominated," before adding, "the hope of this promotion is to build enthusiasm not hurt feelings over people being left out." If nothing else, this will certainly be an interesting situation to follow through the summer.

May is going to be a big month for the culinary team at Wynn Las Vegas as they have several very special promotions on the calendar that will give their amazing roster of chefs an opportunity to shine amongst their peers. It starts on Tuesday, May 1st when the property's sole 'celebrity chef' Daniel Boulud starts the month with a special wine dinner, pairing his incredible culinary creations with wines from the Rhone Valley with assistance from sommelier Jerome Delpuch. The weekend at Wynn starts on Friday, May 18th when Wynn mixologist Patricia Richards celebrates today's cocktail culture with a Cocktail Smackdown at LURE Ultra Lounge presenting eight signature cocktail recipes for guests. It's a great blend of education and libation, where guests will learn how to make classic cocktails like the margarita, mojito, dirty vodka martini and French 75 before Richards put her radical twists on the classics and offers up four modern versions of the originals. Knowing how much a cocktail costs these days, the $65 ticket price isn't a bad deal to sip on original recipes and classic concoctions. But wait, that's not the high point, just the starting point. On Saturday, May 19th, four Wynn Las Vegas restaurants will be opening for a rare luncheon series when Daniel Boulud, Alex Stratta (ALEX), David Walzog (SW Steakhouse) and Paul Bartolotta (Bartolotta Ristorante di Mare) each pair up with a wine maker and winery while offering a special pre-set lunch menu. Suddenly slimming comic, Jeffrey Beacher, sure seems to be taking the second go-around for his Beacher's Madhouse variety show at the Hard Rock Hotel pretty seriously. Not only do they have their first major audition for go-go dancers, models, variety acts and more set for Tuesday, May 1st at 5P inside The Joint, but he has also done some big hiring for several key positions that should aid the Madhouse in being fiscally successful during its encore. Beacher went back to the Big Apple to find New Yawker Danny Coscia, who has signed on as the Madhouse's new Director of Marketing. This isn't another Beacher PR scheme though; Coscia joins the Madhouse after serving as a Vice President at Wells Fargo Bank. Also on board is Stacey Robinson who will serve as Company Manager for the Madhouse, another true professional, Robinson had run Tony and Tina's Wedding at the Rio for the last several years. - Nico Chessa has been promoted to executive chef of Giorgio Caffe & Ristorante (Mandalay Place) after serving as its chef de cuisine for nearly two years. "Nico has been an integral part of shaping and building Giorgio from the very beginning," said Frank Micalizzi, general manager of Giorgio. "We at Giorgio are excited for his new role as executive chef as he brings a lot of experience, creativity and personality to the restaurant." Chessa has worked with the Valentino Restaurant Group, and its owners, Piero Selvaggio and chef Luciano Pellegrini, since 2003. Congratulations Nico, you certainly deserve it!

- John Geng has been named Director of Operations for the Light Group's upcoming 30,000 square foot Mexican restaurant venture, Diablo Cantina. Previous to accepting the position, Geng was the general manager of MIX Las Vegas (Mandalay Bay). "My stay was short but very rewarding and a great stepping stone," said Geng.

- Jovan 'The Hawaiian Hammer' Andow, N9NE Group's new Director of VIP Services, dropped us a line last week to let us know about several new faces that have surfaced at the Palms Resort working with his VIP Services team. First, longtime door guy Mike Wade has been named to the N9NE Group team after nearly two years with TAO Nightclub. Not only is Wade insanely likeable, but he has been a presence at the door of Vegas top nightlife venues for years now, going back to when Tabu Ultra Lounge opened at the MGM Grand. Another former Tabu staffer is also making the move to the N9NE team in Don Lee. The talented Lee will join Wade in assisting Lead VIP Door Host Mike Manzo. Combined with last month's addition of former Light Group guy Steve 'Pooly' Philiposian and the 'oh so beautiful' Amber Nicole Miller and Andow has very quickly added some long standing local ties to his team. Internally, Andow also added that Pasquale Romano has been promoted to Lead Sr. Host for Rain Nightclub.

- The 'Queen of House', Zee Zandi, has signed on with Neil Moffit'sAngel Music Group, while departing her former gig at JET Nightclub. The move rejoins Zandi with Moffit and former ICE Nightclub general manager Derek Silberstein, the trio all worked together during ICE's 'The Club' era, where Zandi got her house music related nickname. This shouldn't affect JET's recurring, fledging Thursday house music promotion too much, with house heads Brian Klimaski and Josh Donaldson still aboard.

- Joel K. Rovics has been named the Vice President of Marketing for the Silverton Casino Lodge. "With his extensive marketing knowledge and experience in the hotel and food and beverage industry, Rovics is an excellent addition to the Silverton team," said Silverton President Craig Cavileer. "He will be instrumental in our continued growth, development and overall success. We are very excited to have him join our company." Prior to joining the Silverton team, Rovics has served in a similar post at California's Morongo Casino Resort.

- Out west, Eye friend Victor Tiffany has been named senior vice president of concept development for Tarsadia Hotels. His first project will focus on the development of the Hard Rock Hotel San Diego, which is being built at the entrance to the Gas Lamp District and will host a Nobu Restaurant, a nightlife-focused lounge from Midnight Oil Company czar Rande Gerber and a concert venue. Before joining Tarsadia, Tiffany spent 15 years with Myriad Restaurant Group opening restaurants with acclaimed chef Nobu Matsuhisa. "Victor has amassed an amazing list of credentials during his career, and we are thrilled that he now brings his creativity and exuberance to Tarsadia," said Greg Casserly, president of Tarsadia Hotels.

The Light Group's clubs were jam packed last week with more celebs and even bigger parties. Known for their hit song "Cupid's Chokehold," the band Gym Class Heroes hosted their official music video wrap party on Monday night at JET Nightclub. While posing for pictures on the red carpet, the band's lead singer, Travis McCoy caused quite a stir while many fans and onlookers screamed out in excitement. But the real thrill came when the bassist of the band Fall Out Boy, Pete Wentz showed up with new gal pal Ashlee Simpson in tow. The club was packed and the crowd stayed energetic while enjoying the beats of resident DJ Roonie G. Also in the house for a second Light Group Venue visit in a row, singer and Pop/Opera music star Josh Groban who enjoyed JET's exclusive VIP section. On Friday night, Ami James and Chris Nunez, stars of the hit TLC reality show Miami Ink, filmed at JET for an upcoming episode where they come to Las Vegas and ask Las Vegas Nightlife experts, Marklen Kennedy and Steven Lockwood of the Light Group for tips on how to run their newest Miami bar Love-Hate. On Saturday night, Prince Lorenzo Borghese of Italy aka "The Bachelor" from the 2006 season of the hit ABC show dined at STACK, as well as NFL player Lamont Jordan, while in for a second night in a row, Tiger Woods partied at Light Nightclub with several of his golfing buddies. TAO Las Vegas helped film and television star Matthew Modine celebrate his birthday in style on Saturday night. Modine began the evening at TAO Asian Bistro dining on Lobster Wontons, Chicken Pad Thai and Kobe Beef with his friends. Once the meal was complete, the staff surprised Modine with a dessert platter for his birthday, then after dinner, the group headed upstairs to the nightclub VIP and partied the night away to the sounds of DJ Vice.

First, on Wednesday, April 18th, adult film superstar Tera Patrick will host TAO's Sutra to premiere her new lingerie line 'Mistress Couture'. Then the next night (04/19), Victoria's Secret is hosting their "What Is Sexy" party at TAO Nightclub with rumors of the Victoria's Secret supermodels Heidi Klum, Karolina Kurkova, May Andersen, Ana Beatriz, Marissa Miller and Jessica White all showing up for the event.

Ben & Jerry's will be holding their "29th Annual Free Cone Day" at the Galleria Mall to benefit the Lied Discovery Children's Museum this Tuesday (4/17) from noon until 8pm. All small cones will be free with no purchase obligation necessary, but patrons are encouraged to make a donation.

The MGM Grand has announced a July opening for the third tower of their joint-MGM Residences project, making it the first condo/hotel project to actually reach completion. It's a pretty huge sign considering the majority of the other mixed use facilities have yet to even break ground.

No derrieres are more famous in Las Vegas than the seven statuesque 'Crazy Girls' who lent their backsides to sculptor Michael Conine for the famous bronze butts statue at the Riviera. Not everyone has been a fan of the 1,540 pound statue, as the National Organization of Women once protested against the piece of … art, however, on May 13th the bronzed behinds will celebrate their anniversary.

Word out of the Rio camp has the venerable Voodoo Lounge about to undertake a slight tweak in branding and menu offerings. While not giving up its Cajun roots, rumors have Voodoo Steak offering diners a renewed focus on thick, juicy cuts of red meat.

It seems as though South Beach scenesters, The Opium Group, have had a change of plans with which of their venues will be transplanted to Sin City and the Planet Hollywood Hotel & Casino. Gone are plans to bring Mansion Nightclub to the property, instead Miami mogul Roman Jones is looking to bring Prive into the former Curve Nightclub space, while Opium Lounge will be the company's second addition to the property. Don't think that their plans end there however, as rumors are swirling regarding a potential Opium Pool Club that would bring South Beach to Vegas sunbathers in time for the 2008 heat wave.

Rumors have PURE Management Group close to naming its first member of the LAX Nightclub team. At the very least, negotiations are taking place with a very esteemed and respected local name. Stay tuned …

We've been raving about the quality of food coming out of the Men's Club's two restaurant offerings, Raw Bar and Alchemy Kitchen, so when master sommelier/executive chef Steven Geddes, asked us to get involved in introducing the new venue to the industry, how could we resist! Mark your calendars for 9 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 21, when the Eye and LVFBM join forces to host the Industry Opening of the Men's Club. With a history of kicking-off successful promotions and operations at numerous outlets around the city, look for the good times to continue with a special hosted bar and complimentary passed hors d'oeuvres from Geddes' kitchen. We promise you won't be disappointed! The event also will feature the second installment of The Chef's Table, a special invite-only dinner that gives the host chef a chance to show-off in front of his associates. The first dinner, which took place at Social House, gave Executive Chef Joseph Elevado to shine in front of his peers, a challenge that Geddes is relishing. The official Grand Opening of The Men's Club will take place that following Saturday, Feb. 24, and will be hosted by the beautiful Carmen Electra. A Look Back at the Weekend

After almost a year of anticipation, the NBA All Star Weekend rolled into town bringing with it the excepted hype, hoopla, big-time parties and big-spending celebrities and high rollers that we've been told would accompany the event. Blending together with the ever-growing MAGIC convention and Chinese New Year, this past weekend created a challenging backdrop for Las Vegas to perform. Yet as always, we succeeded admirably. At the end of the day, we were able to quiet the nay-sayers and provide a resolute answer to the question; Can Las Vegas really be the home to a professional sports team? Absolutely.

It certainly wasn't easy; we got nailed on traffic congestion that every local knew was coming, and even NBA commissioner David Stern, acknowledged that the Thomas & Mack Center is simply outdated for the needs of a professional sporting team. That being said, none of the high-profile athletes got into any real trouble. There were no protests over no wagering on the game (possibly preventing the history's largest over/under number from being posted) and nobody could hush the buzz on everyone's lips nor dim the smiles on their faces.

The NBA All Star game is seemingly an anomaly as far as annual sporting events go, meaning the actual game itself is the smallest part of the weekend. There is no determinable pinnacle to the weekend, although some may argue the Slam Dunk Competition serves as such, we disagree. Instead, the thousands of travelers who came to Las Vegas for the weekend, came to soak it all up, in what famed Kansas City Star journalist Jason Whitlock called, "The Perfect Storm of ghetto fabulousness — booze, babes, gambling, celebrities, a dunk contest and no such thing as last call."

All in all, it went over pretty good. Okay fine, we'll admit it; there were an above average amount of fights and general inappropriate behavior in, on and around casino floors, but nothing that made headlines around the country (the police department announced they made 362 arrests over the weekend, most for trespassing, battery or outstanding warrants). What will resound from coast-to-coast is the idea that Las Vegas raised the bar for a city's hosting of annual events of this kind. Everyone said it- the league, the players, the celebrities, this was the best All Star game yet. Why? Well in the words of Sports Illustrated's Ian Thomsen, "In other places the event overwhelmed its host city, which made the NBA stars appear bigger than they really are. But this time they were absorbed into the larger Las Vegas landscape." But of course, after all, this is Vegas, baby!

Getting past the sweeping generalities and back-pats to the city, one of the most interesting stories to come out of the weekend were the distinctly different directions that the nightlife industry took with this chaotic weekend. Setting the bar for breaking the norm had to be TAO Nightclub who opened its doors on Monday night for MAGIC and didn't close them until a week later… well kind of. The nightclub made the decision to close the venue to the public during what may have been one of the busiest weekends of the year, instead opting for corporate buy-outs from corporate behemoths like Nike. The club simply estimated their take for each night, added a set percentage and then charged individual VIP's for up-sells on the open bar; larger format bottles, high-priced champagne, etc. The result was a revenue packed weekend for the Asian-infused hot spot and an attendance list of celebs and athletes the likes that has probably never before been seen on The Strip. Across the way at PURE Nightclub, the PMG team went against the norm, instead of closing to the public or paying big bucks for high-profile celebrity appearances throughout the weekend, like they normally would have, they looked at the landscape and made the decision to bring in two hosts for Saturday night and simply open doors for business on Friday and Sunday. It's a move that worked well for PMG, according to sources within the organization; it enabled their high-end clients and big spenders to enjoy the club while still offering the masses a taste of what exactly PURE does so well. The result was a huge revenue weekend that enabled the general public to take part.

Another interesting story took place at ICE Nightclub, where owner Greg Neely retained his lease simply to open doors for special events throughout the weekend before officially and finally saying goodbye to the club at the end of February. ICE's four-days of festivities started Thursday night with a party hosted by Allen Iverson and Lebron James. Never mind that James was suited up for the Cleveland Cavaliers in Los Angeles that night and never showed, because hundreds of party-goers lined up to party in the club that house built; The underlying ICE storyline probably the furthest thing from their minds. On Saturday night, Hip hop megastar Jay Z filed a restraining order against the event which was being hosted, in part, by his Rockafella Records label and Rocawear clothing line. "Jay Z is often misrepresented. False representation of a party at ICE is particularly egregious as his name, likeness, and both of his companies, Rockafella Records and Rocawear, are being used to sell tickets when he has no association with that event," noted the press release before announcing that Jay Z was indeed hosting a party that night, it was just at another club down the way (TAO). No press release however was released when it was reportedly learned that a Rockafella Records executive had actually agreed to the event, and it took place as expected, obviously without HOVA's presence, attendance was clearly affected. Throughout it all though, ICE remained profitable and packed, an indication that Neely's plan may have worked after all.

When all was said done, Las Vegas experienced a weekend like never before; dress codes were flaunted, ganja smoke was omnipresent and the groupies were out in full force, yet the city never wavered from providing the typically outstanding service and experiences that make this town so great. We proved beyond a shadow of a doubt we deserve a professional team to call our own and, once again, no one does it quite like Las Vegas! When celebrity chef Guy Fiore and rocker/tequila czar Sammy Hagar got together last week, who knew what would come out of it? For Fiore, it was a rash of new tequila-inspired recipes and dishes at his popular The Chophouse eatery. For Hagar, it was being able to witness his premium tequila being pushed to the boundaries and infused in eclectic recipes created by Fiore. During a sampling at Fiore's restaurant last week, the pair sat down for a tasting of the dishes, accompanied by Cabo Wabo Tequila of course. Hagar was left preaching about not only the dishes themselves, but also how Fiore was able to seamlessly integrate the tequila into the recipes. A Fighting Pearl

Celebrity models included Victoria's Secret model KD Aubert, Beauty & the Greek's Jennylee Berns, and actor Cory Hardrict. The show featured performances by Lil C and Miss Prissy with Nick Cannon guest DJ'ing throughout the evening. Smith, and Too Short also in the mix for the celebration. NFL all pro running back Larry Johnson took over six tables with his entourage up at ghostbar on Thursday night while NBA and EA Sports hosted their "NBA Street Homecourt" Launch Party up at MOON Nightclub with a long list of attendees including Adam Morrison, Chris Bosh, Carmelo Anthony, Richard Hamilton, Tony Parker, Steven A. Smith, Scoop Jackson, Ed Lover, John Salley, Chauncy Billups, Lisa Leslie, Sheryl Swoopes, Shawn Marion, Ray Allen, Chris Paul, and Carlos Boozer. The players took part in and intense tournament with the new game featuring themselves, while addressing the media and taking pics with the crowd. Tuesday night, international superstar Michael Jackson dined at TAO Asian Bistro with a large group of friends. Later that night in the club, BPM hosted the evening with guest DJs, DJ Momjeans, Steve Aoki and DJ Roxy Cottontail. Music stars Ashanti and Nelly also stopped by the club late night. Kanye West hosted the party at TAO on Wednesday night for a special Valentine's Day celebration. Friday night, TAO Las Vegas was taken over by shoe giant Nike. In celebration of the 25th year anniversary of the Air Force 1 as well the launch of Nike's latest basketball shoe, the Air Force 25. Celebrities walked a gold carpet. The event was hosted by BET personality Big Tigger and featured performances by Nas and Grammy Award winner Ludacris. Basketball greats past and present were in attendance including Lebron James, Kobe Bryant, Rasheed Wallace, Reggie Miller, John Sally, Steve Nash, Tony Parker, Paul Pierce, Charles Barkley, Shawn Marion, Dwayne Wade, and Amare Stoudemire. Celebrity guests included Vivica Fox, singer Maya, Diddy, Nelly, Queen Latifah, Usher, Kelis, Nicky Hilton, Brandon Davis, David Katzenberg, Stavros Niarchos, Kim Kardashian, Chamillionaire, Rosie Perez, Brody Jenner, Kelly Rowland, Nick Stahl, singer Robin Thicke, former Miss USA and model Kenya Moore, actress Elise Neal, actor Chi McBride, and poker player David Williams. Finally on Saturday night, TAO Las Vegas, Rapper Jay-Z and basketball star Lebron James hosted the "Two Kings" private power dinner and after party with guests that included all the who's who of the entertainment and sports industries! Over the weekend notable celebrities such as Arnold Schwarzenegger and Queen Latifah were seen gambling, hanging out and dining at FIAMMA inside the MGM Grand. Last week, famous label executive and former CEO and co-founder of Roc-A-Fella Records, Damon Dash was seen dining at Boa Steakhouse with a large group of friends, enjoying a delicious meal. Gene Simmons was also seen dining in the steakhouse, which he frequents often. Saturday night, Scott Padgett of the Memphis Grizzlies came into Boa with friends and family. Later that evening, Shawn Marion of the Phoenix Suns came into dine as well as ESPN correspondent Greg Anthony who also had time to catch up with his fellow UNLV Runnin Rebel teammate and Operating Partner for Innovative Dining Group, Clinton Clausen. Sunday, Mario Lopez stopped in for a quick bite.
Saturday night, renowned rock star and guitarist Miyavi performed his celebrated "visual rock" at Tabu Ultra Lounge. Miyavi is known for his original sound and has released five albums and 15 singles, enjoying an incredible fan base across the globe.

Social House was rockin' more than usual on Tuesday night as famed Guns N' Roses guitarist, Slash came in with friends for dinner. Downstairs at Tangerine, Nelly held a private event for his clothing line Apple Bottom, taking pictures with some lucky fans. PURE Nightclub kicked MAGIC and NBA All-Star week off with a slam-dunk last night as superstar DJ AM pumped out the beats and rocker Travis Barker showcased his clothing line, Famous Stars and Straps. Officially a couple again, Barker and Shanna Moakler partied with a huge entourage of friends including record producer and hip-hop artist Jermaine Dupri and professional boxer Zab Juddah. Holding court on the main VIP stage were basketball legends Michael Jordon, Charles Oakley, and former St. Louis Rams running back Marshall Faulk who danced all night with the beautiful women. Also in the house that night enjoying the party, were Gene Simmons of KISS and poker star David Williams. Wednesday night, Gene Simmons dined at Social House with friends as well as actress Kelly Hu and singer Blu Cantrell who then took their party downstairs to Tangerine to host the Marceau fashion show. Social House was sizzling once again on Thursday night as heiress and fashion designer Nicky Hilton, producer David Katzenberg, former Houston Rockets player Charles Oakley and Houston Texans player Dexter McCleon were all in the house for dinner. After dinner, the hot celebrity couple, Hilton and Katzenberg headed down to PURE to celebrate the launch of Nicky Hilton's never seen before couture "Nicholai" fashion line and the Spring Fashion Show for her "Chick by Nicky Hilton" line. Other celebs at PURE in support of Nicky's new line were R&B singer Blu Cantrell, Baywatch hunk Jeremy Jackson, and 2007 Miami Super Bowl star and Las Vegas local Prince who enjoyed the beats of DJ Hollywood and took in the PURE atmosphere. The infamous 'Hedgehog', Ron Jeremy, has agreed to lend his name and likeness to a new brand of hot sauce. "It's a real nice sauce," says the star of over 1,800 adult films, "it's not too hot, but just right for the way I like it". Jeremy's face will be prominently displayed on both the 6-oz and 10-oz bottles of the sauce.

Top Chef, Bottom Boss

We were quick to receive an e-mail late last week when New York magazine ran a short interview with Craft empire boss and "Top Chef" Tom Colicchio, announcing the departure of craftsteak executive chef Chris Albrecht. Colicchio frigidly noted, "It was time for him to go," before confirming that the Big Apple's second craftsteak outlet is experiencing a disappointing performance. "We need to break out of the steakhouse mindset and start thinking about this as a Craft restaurant that happens to be a celebration of meat – all meat."

It would seem to be a rather cold-hearted move for the celebrity chef, who left his longtime Gramercy Tavern gig to focus on expansion of his Craft brand to cities like Dallas, Los Angeles and Atlanta. Albrecht had served under Colicchio in a variety of positions at various outlets for more than a decade, often letting fall by the wayside opportunities that would have helped Albrecht establish his own name, instead choosing to reinforce his loyalty to the smooth-skulled chef. As Colicchio's name and brand continued to grow, it would seem as though he has forgotten that it was supportive and loyal associates like Albrecht who made his popularity soar. It was Albrecht who made the move to Las Vegas to open the second craftsteak outlet at the MGM Grand, and he certainly deserves some of the credit for that outlet's much-ballyhooed success. When it was time for Colicchio to open his third craft, he again looked to Albrecht to execute his vision, often while Colicchio was traveling the country filming segments for Bravo's "Top Chef" reality series and making numerous public appearances.

If that is the case, how can Albrecht be held accountable for the outlet's poor performance, especially because it had little to do with the quality of food being served from his kitchen? We have no doubt that Albrecht will land on his feet – he is, after all, a tremendously talented, good-looking, easily marketable family man – however, it's certainly disappointing that he finds himself in this position. Meanwhile, back at Craft, chef de cuisine Damon Wise will hold the reins until Albrecht's replacement is found. Sorry, Tom. Although we just can't support you on this one, we'd be happy to let you respond to our readers in a future Eye.

On The Move

- What do the Super Bowl, Hawaii, Cabo and four "Best New Restaurant Awards" have in common? Josh "Moses" Thomsen. Current chef de cuisine of the famed eatery Tao Asian Bistro inside The Venetian has moved on to pursue other professional opportunities. Thomsen, who opened NobHill, Simon and BOA Steakhouses here in Las Vegas and in Los Angeles, will be taking trips to Miami, Hawaii and Cabo before setting sites on the next big thing. "I am looking forward to the next great venture after some fun in the sun," says Thomsen. Sam Hazen, Tao's executive chef, commented that, "It has been my extreme good fortune to work with Chef Josh Thomsen, as his teacher and as a colleague at Tao Las Vegas. I know as he leaves Tao, Josh will be bringing the enthusiasm, professionalism and loyalty that have earmarked all his endeavors to a lucky dining audience."

- MJ Maynard has announced plans to resign from her vice president of food and beverage post at the Hard Rock Hotel once the sale of the property to the Morgans Group becomes final. "This has been an extremely difficult decision and was not easy to make, as I truly love this hotel," Maynard wrote in an e-mail sent to the staff late last week. "I have always considered this more than a job and coming to work each day was like coming home. I have been given so much support and guidance from Randy Kwasniewski and Lou Carrier and will forever be grateful for their leadership and friendship." Maynard continued that her decision was based purely on making a career move that would allow her to spend more time with her family. A veteran of the property since its opening over a decade ago, the upcoming departure of Maynard certainly marks more than a symbolic change on property. Always the leader, Maynard left her staff with a few words of inspiration: "You are the very best F&B team in Las Vegas and have a promising future with the Morgan's Hotel Group. 2007 is just the start of amazing things to come; stay focused and diligent as the property becomes the premier destination in Las Vegas!"

We want to wish the beautiful and talented Maynard nothing but the best and continued success in the future; it has certainly been a long and wild ride!

- Dave Roberts has been promoted to senior VIP host at JET Nightclub (The Mirage). The longtime Light Group staffer had previously served as a VIP host at both JET Nightclub and Light Nightclub (Bellagio) and is well-known for one the city's larger client lists. Roberts was promoted when previous senior host Larry Murphy departed JET two weeks back. Congratulations, Dave, you certainly deserve it!

- Natalie Fisher has resigned from her VIP services manager position with the N9NE Group, making a move to "the other side of the ropes" with a new company in the spirits industry. While Fisher is remaining tightlipped for the time being, she is promising to release news of her new position within the near future. "I will truly miss the company and the dear friends I have made," Fisher wrote in an e-mail last week, before adding, "Thank you so much to all of you who have supported me over the past two and a half years and, many of you, much longer! I look forward to continuing my relationships with you on both a personal and professional level."

BOA Steakhouse would like to welcome Brian Mongeon as general manager and Bradley Owens as assistant general manager. "We are incredibly lucky to have Brian and Bradley lead our team to ongoing success," said Clint Clausen, operating partner of Innovative Dining Group. "Not only are they devoted team players, but their knowledge in the industry and spirit are all tremendous assets to out restaurant group."

Red Rocker Goes Racing

Sammy Hagar certainly has surpassed his status as rock legend in recent years with his successful brand of premium tequila, Cabo Wabo, and ever-expanding restaurant concept, the Cabo Wabo Cantina. His newest enterprise has Hagar taking partnership in KMA Racing, a motorsports team that competes in the Indy Pro Series. "I'm very excited about our entering the Indy Pro Series," stated Hagar. "The fans of Indy racing are enthusiastic and it's a tremendous venue to compete in. I've been a car fanatic for as long as I can remember, and I'm really looking forward to being a part of Indy Racing."

While no details have been released, it has been announced that both the Cabo Wabo tequila and Cabo Wabo Cantina brands will be involved in Team KMA's multi-car promotions. "I cannot explain how honored and proud I am to have Sammy as my partner," exclaimed Team KMA co-owner Jon Lewis. "Sammy's a true rocker and so full of energy. We have to give thanks to the online Web site Vegas Community Online and its publisher Marleen Marino, who recently awarded The MAIN Event among her list of Publisher's Best Awards for 2006. Marino published a brief letter thanking her readers for a fantastic year before releasing her list of bests. Under the category of "Best Industry Event," Marino named The MAIN Event: 12 Dessertly Sins of Christmas the hands-down winner, a true bonus since the event was being hosted to help raise money for the under-privileged, homeless and disadvantaged families of Southern Nevada. Coming 'Soonalot

As construction of $70 million The Grail Theater continues to come together at Wynn Las Vegas, some early announcements have been made regarding the cast for the upcoming invasion of Monty Python's "Spamalot," which is scheduled to debut on March 31. The award-winning Broadway hit, which is adapted from the cult-hit film "Monty Python and the Holy Grail," is written by funnyman Eric Idle, who also starred in the original film. Inked to play the role of King Arthur is John O' Hurley, who probably is best-known for his role as J. Peterman in the epic "Seinfeld" television series. More recently, O' Hurley had a stint on "Dancing With the Stars" and is the host of the new "Family Feud." Spamalot will be the second Broadway-awarded show to land at Wynn Las Vegas, although it is expected to have a better result than the hilarious puppet show "Avenue Q," which unfortunately never seemed to find an audience in Sin City. Spamalot has won three Tony Awards, including one for "Best Musical," as well as a Grammy for "Best Original Cast Recording." According to the Wynn Las Vegas Web site, Spamalot tells the tale of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table and their quest for the Holy Grail. However, more tempting are the "chorus lines of dancing divas, killer rabbits, and the only legless knight appearing on The Strip." Take that, Trekkie Monster!

Risqué Nightclub at Paris Las Vegas is a super chic place with a sensual and intimate atmosphere where locals, as well as visitors, dance all night, or just kick back and relax. Low Rollers

An article that was picked up nationally from the Los Angeles Times found mixed results about budget lodging in Las Vegas, a term that is quickly becoming as obsolete as the 99-cent buffet. A team of reporters headed to Sin City with a goal of finding lodging under $200 per night. Although it was over a weekend in November, the staffers couldn't find a hotel room on The Strip for under the two-bill marker, but they did settle into the so-called "luxurious boutique hotel" The Artisan with less-than-stellar results. "Rooms overlooking the oh-so-close freeway where it meets busy West Sahara Avenue are so noisy, even the drone of the air conditioner doesn't help. Neighborhood is gritty. Bathroom was poorly lighted and water flow inadequate. Hotel is a mile from the Strip, and not a pedestrian-friendly mile." The reporters did have more success elsewhere; their best choices for budget lodging in Las Vegas were downtown's Binion's Horseshoe, the near-Strip Hooter's Hotel & Casino and the South Point Hotel Casino.

The Three Amigos

Also, 3 Doors Down guitarist Matt Roberts celebrated his birthday with band members Todd Harrell and Greg Upchurch at a table on the VIP stage, with Pure regular Prince just a few tables down socializing with some friends. Jaime Pressly and her DJ/fiancé Eric Cubeechee came in to dine at Social House on Wednesday evening before going downstairs to enjoy the rest of their night at Tangerine. As Cubeechee kept the energy up with his beats on the dance floor, Howie Mandel and Dennis Haskins kept Pressly company, while Kansas City Chief Jared Allen, Tampa Bay Buccaneer Cadillac Williams, and Cleveland Brown Ruben Droughns partied with the other lovely ladies. After dining at Social House, Nicky Hilton and her boyfriend David Katzenberg headed down to PURE for the second night in a row for the Wicked Pictures official AVN after-party. The couple met up with friends including rocker Dave Navarro to celebrate DJ Jon Alagem's birthday party - Vegas style! Further down the Strip, club-goers at Coyote Ugly were having an energy-filled party of their own, while hanging out with FOX's "Paradise Hotel" and MTV's "Life of a Model" reality star Tara Gerard and her girlfriends.

While in town on Wednesday night, actress Kate Bosworth decided to dine at Tao for the fist time after hearing only good things about the popular Asian Bistro. Later in the week, Eddie Murphy and Barry Bonds dined at Tao before heading upstairs to the party hosted by the girls of Vivid Video. Adult star Jenna Jameson and Tito Ortiz also took a VIP table for the night with Tera Patrick appearing shortly after, taking her VIP table on the dance floor with some friends.

While "Desperate Housewives" Jesse Metcalfe hung out in the lounge at N9NE Steakhouse enjoying cocktails with some friends on Tuesday evening, Ruben Droughns from the Cleveland Browns dined with his group on a special 2-pound fried lobster prepared by Chef Barry. Dennis Haskins, also know as "Mr. Belding" stopped in to say "Hello" to the chef before heading up to check out the Playboy Club. Music legend Prince stopped into ghostbar to check out the breathtaking view while rock band Earth, Wind, & Fire enjoyed their table and bottle service inside the lounge. Adult video stars were everywhere this week, but what better person to get to host the AVN launch party at Playboy Nightclub and Moon than Jenna Jameson? With Tito Ortiz by her side, the pair celebrated with Gene Simmons, Ron Jeremy, Criss Angel, and "Big Black" from the "Rob and Big" show. The party at Moon started with Barry Bonds, Johnny Gill and Eddie Murphy, who rolled into the nightclub with an entourage throwing back bottles of Ketel One. Rob and Big of MTV's reality show, "Rob and Big" kept the party going for the rest of the night as they celebrated "Big Black's" birthday along with a crew of about 40 people and a cake presented by the staff.

After attending the "LOVE" show, actress Kate Bosworth and British model James Russo headed over to The Beatles REVOLUTION lounge, created by Cirque du Soleil, where they received a first-hand look at the design and the technology of the décor inside the club.

Friday night, SCORES was filled with the usual beautiful women, along with some celebrities in the mix, including Tiffany Masters, Penthouse cover girl Shyla Stylez and the Arm Chair Girls. Dave Navarro received multiple lap dances on the main stage, while Jenna Jameson was busy checking out the Sky lounge with some friends. Saturday night, Stormy was seen drinking champagne with friend DJ Skribble, while Nick Nolte spent the entire night mingling with the lovely ladies.

Quick Bites

We wanted to start this week's Quick Bites with a special shout out to Victor Drai, Jesse and Cy Waits, and the entire Tryst team – from bottle runner to cocktail server to door host to security guard. Thursday night, Tryst Nightclub (Wynn Las Vegas) hosted its one-year anniversary party with tremendous results. Thousands of industry locals turned out to help the club celebrate and the party raged well into the early hours. Congratulations, and may the next year be just as special as last Thursday!

Take it from an eyewitness, seeing an individual wandering through the AVN convention dressed and looking very much like Jesus probably is about as disturbing as it sounds, regardless of religion.

One industry operator was looking especially dapper over the busy AVN weekend. Light Nightclub's director of operations Liam Dwyer was spotted sporting an especially sharp, silk purple tie while maintaining the ever-strict service standards at the high-rolling Bellagio nightclub. As it turns out, the gift actually was a gift from Marklen Kennedy, vice president of customer development for the Light Group.

We guess Ice Nightclub owner Greg Neely wasn't kidding when he told us he had big plans for the NBA All-Star weekend even though the club hasn't been open for months – although you certainly wouldn't know that by reading the press release plugging "The Club Ice All-Star Weekend." It appears as though the club will be the site of celebrity-related parties hosted by Allen Iverson and LeBron James, among others.

Anyone else hear the rumor that Steve Wynn already has plans for a second Macau casino resort that would be created in partnership with, and based around, the luxury sports car producer Ferrari?

Speaking of Wynn, his fairway-side eatery, the Country Club, is quickly establishing itself as a serious power lunch spot. We stopped by one day last week and saw three of Vegas' nightlife movers and shakers all catching lunch at separate tables. In the dining room, OPM Nightclub's owner and top dawg Mike Goodwin held court; a few tables away was PURE Management Group's talented director of operations Greg "J"; while on the patio, Tryst Nightclub general manager Kyle Madden was spotted breaking bread with the sales team from DeLuca Liquor & Wine.

The former Miss Nevada Katie Rees, who was stripped of her title after scandalous pictures of her appeared last year, probably is receiving five times the amount of press she would have had she kept her title. On Monday, Jan. 29, Rees will be crowned Miss JET Las Vegas at JET Nightclub in a special "crowning" party entitled "Hail to the Queen."

The most beautiful girls in the planet will be gathering at 4:30 p.m. this Friday, Jan. 19, in the Main Lobby at the Aladdin/Planet Hollywood Resort & Casinofor the 2007 Miss America contestant's arrival ceremony, where the public is invited to greet them on their first day in Las Vegas. The rock 'n' roll chef Kerry Simon broke away from his normally reserved self to pitch kitchenwares on the Home Shopping Network while promoting both of his eateries: SIMON kitchen + bar (Hard Rock Hotel) and his L.A. eatery SIMON LA (Sofitel Hotel). We almost bought the eight-piece cutlery set and knife block, but got hungry watching the chef and hit the Hard Rock for a California Pizza instead. A former waiter of the posh NYC eatery Jean Georges in the Trump International Hotel and Tower has filed a discrimination lawsuit stating that he was continually harassed because of his sexual orientation. The lawsuit filed Friday by Joseph Bassani names several employees of the restaurant in the lawsuit, but not namesake culinary mogul Jean-Georges Vongerichten. The lawsuit also mentions that Bassani was given a bad reference after nearly two years with the outlet, although a company spokesperson noted that Bassani left on "good terms with us."

Although few condo projects have actually come to fruition in Las Vegas, MGM Mirage says that it already has received 1,200 offers of interest for condo units inside the up-coming CityCenter project, which are expected to sell for anywhere between $500,000 and $12 million.

We wanted to send out a special thank you to local wine guru Henry "Hank" Vasquez, who hosted his annual "Celebration of Life" party over the weekend. Vasquez, who hosts the party at his Henderson home, uses the occasion to bring together friends and family from around the country, who open phenomenal bottles of wine and enjoy life for what it is.

The legendary citizens group, the Guardian Angels, have begun regular patrols along Fremont Street. While the volunteers are not armed, they are trained in martial arts and aid police in making citizens' arrests.

Rumors persist that MGM Mirage is in talks to build a series of non-gaming resorts throughout Abu Dhabi in a partnership with a government-owned development company.

Las Vegas' Christy Clayton has brought a new expression to the changing face of country music with her fresh sound that satisfies true country fans. Friday night, Miss Clayton kicked off her Breakin' the Rules Tour in Las Vegas with a CD release party at Toby Keith's I Love This Bar & Grill inside Harrah's. While Clayton's debut CD, "Devil's Paradise" hit stores last week, she is the first artist to be signed by upstart Las Vegas record label Desert Funk Records, which is led by music veteran Greg Stricklin.

TheVegasEye was invited to one of the coolest birthday parties EVER in Vegas. Celebrity impresario Tommy Lipnick celebrated his birthday bash Saturday night at Body English, with celebrities from each end of the spectrum in attendance. Lipnick's guests included Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins, Nicky Hilton, David Katzenberg, Danny Masterson, Jeffrey Beacher and members of the bands Incubus, KoRn, System of a Down, Linkin Park, the Strokes, and Panic at the Disco. One guest was over heard saying, "This party is cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs!"
