"Bletherings, Belslubberings & Scotty-isms"

It has come to my attention that there are some rumors circulating that I am unethically "selling shares" in Dead Reckoning.

My first response is to say that if you hear this nonsensical tripe, you are hearing (at best) a misinterpretation, and (at worst) deliberate misinformation by people with a personal agenda.

Let me state for the record that there are ZERO shares to be purchased in Dead Reckoning. I own 100% of Dead Reckoning, and we are NOT a public company. Nor are we an existing television show, nor are we "in production" with any television network, despite having been filmed by a major network's production company. (We are currently in ongoing production development for further consideration by that network, as well as others with whom we have been in contact.)

However, this is not to say that we are not seeking funding for our effort from private parties and companies. Dead Reckoning is a small, privately held effort, and finding financial partners to help defray the costs involved is a constant. Ask any small business owner, and they will tell you that capitalization is a perpetual effort.

That's why our Cafe Press site exists - to raise funds. It's no different than a bake sale.

So, if you have heard people gossiping about information regarding Dead Reckoning and my efforts to seek money to capitalize production, you can simply refer them to me. As always, anyone is free to ask me directly by calling me on my private phone -

(651) 468-8115 ...or...
(651) 315-8210 (Skype phone)

If you'd like to invest some of your hard-earned money in this effort and partner with us, you are welcome to do so. Just call me. But I will tell you this: any money you invest with us is risk capital on your part, as we have not yet solidified any deal with any network. You could be just throwing your money toward an effort that may never make it off the ground.

But, personally, I don't think we will do anything but succeed. We are working too hard to make this thing a reality.

Cheers!
~Scotty

Hey Folks!
My new talk radio show - Dead Reckoning Radio - launches THIS SATURDAY 9-11PM (cst) on the Dark Plains Talk Radio Network!

"But, Scotty," you might ask, "aren't there a crapper-load of internet talk radio shows revolving around the paranormal ALREADY??"

True, this. However, my show will not be strictly about "the paranormal." Au contrairé...

Paranormal talk shows glut the airwaves and the internet, these days - sorta like surfing your cable TV guide and finding episodes of Friends and The Golden Girls on every other channel.

New as an owner of the Dark Plains Talk Radio family, Scotty Roberts brings a unique mix of humor, education, science and theology to paranormal talk. He's sort of the bastard love-child of Albert Einstein and "The Grey Lady;" the wicked "red haired" step-brother to Jesus and William Butler Yeats. Rasputin, Moses and Captain Kirk all rolled into one mutant talk show host.

Scotty loves a good political debate and wrangles some of the hard, insane issues in current American politics and world affairs, all while tackling historical mysteries, cryptozoology, spirituality and current events.

And he reads the Tarot.

Tune in every Saturday night from 9PM to 11PM
for a haphazardly focused, rollicking good time!

Hey Folks!
Here is the revised trailer.
Take a peek, enjoy and comment if you'd like.

Cheers!
~Scotty

DISCLAIMER:
Some of the people in this revised trailer are no longer members of this effort. Their appearances and scant seconds of audio have been diminished and will eventually be replaced with newer footage. But all video and audio contained in these trailers were obtained while all individuals involved were operating as friends of the Dead Reckoning effort, members of the Dead Reckoning team, under the auspices of Dead Reckoning, filming for Dead Reckoning, and gathering evidence for Dead Reckoning all while working for the benefit of Dead Reckoning.

This newer, revised trailer was edited rather quickly for the purpose of a network meeting that fell on us rather suddenly. The use of older footage containing team members who are no longer part of this effort was out of necessity, but will eventually be replaced with newer footage.

How's that for a disclaimer and attempt to avoid drama and/or getting people's undies in a bunch?

Current mood:loquacious
Category: Life
I don't really have anything special to say, today. Nothing inspiring or profound is coursing from my brain, through my fingers and out onto my keyboard. However, when looking back over the last year's posts, I find that I have used my blog more to vent my frustrations and tilt with my demons, so I thought I'd take a few minutes to do something a little different and write about the things that inspire me....

I love coffee. It wakes me, makes me and takes me. It is the sweet harbinger of pre-dawn lucidity; that winged herald trumpeting contact with my synaptic sparks. It's bold, dark and brooding in it's murkiness, yet it's olfactoric tendrils fill my house with the caffeinated siren's song, tempting me, beckoning me to the rocky shoals of my cognisance. Sadly, I cannot drink the stuff the way I used to - like a good single malt highland scotch, it needs to be savored in moderate quantities, these days. But the sun never rises without me and my steamy brown friend in observance, my hand curled about the hot ceramic shoulders that bear the responsibility of dragging me into my day.

I love my wife. That could go without saying. But when I spend so much time loquaciously singing the praises of my morning brew, how could I relegate her to the realm of the silent obviate? I have always said that this woman will love me to my dying day - even if that death comes by her hand - and I am happier and better for having her in my life. It is she who makes me strive to overcome the demons of singularity and isolated nuptial omissiveness. She makes me considerate, despite my brooding moodiness so characteristic of my cluttered artist's mind. Oh, were that I were an engineer or a menial laborer who brought home the bacon after his hard eight-hour shift, eddying his way to retirement and the gold watch of 40 years behind the grinder! No... I am that frustrating creative sort who drops torn tidbits of bread as I loom my way through the woods, meandering her along behind as I look for that elusive fountain, that lusty adventure, that missing puzzle piece, the failure of trying and falling, trying and falling, trying and falling. And yet she loves me for it - despite it! She is certainly the Dreamer's touch point to reality, abiding my unshackled exploration of the next hill. I am lucky to have her.

My children are the passion of my heart. I am already beginning the grieving that has not yet arrived - that day in the not-too-distant future when my daughters will be gone from my care. I have raised them as best I could, instilled in them the things that I believe, challenged them with my grumpy daddiness, and prodded them to use their own minds and live by their own convictions. They are amazing people, my twin daughters, and I look forward to knowing them in the years to come as they create their own lives. Despite the unavoidable breaking of the parental bonds spurred on by their expanding desire to step into their own futures, they are still my little girls and I miss them every time they walk out the door. I long for their emancipation, but the burning in my eyes tells me I will miss the little squirrels who built blanket and pillow tents in my office and hung on my back while I made business calls at my desk, as ebullient in their play as i was oblivious to what most would have considered distraction. Those two little girls now nearly all grown up, are the focal point of who I have been for the last seventeen years. They have ridden the roller coaster of my life, and my only regret was that I didn't do better. My buoyancy in life is inextricably linked to loving them, despite my shortcomings as a dad, and my failure at perfection. They are the lights of my life.

My son and my as-of-yet unborn child are the refresher courses, the here's-your-chance-to-do-it-over-and-get-it-rights. And I have much more to say on that, but there is no more time this morning.

It is time for another cup o' joe, and time for sinking myself into the work that is waiting like a leashed dog ready to break free at my door.

Until later....

Hey Folks!
I thought this would be a good time to update everyone on the progress of Dead Reckoning.

Back in March of 2008 I created the idea for Dead Reckoning as a new concept for a paranormal/historical television show. The idea was to focus on sites around the upper midwestern states and their rich history, creating a concept for a tv show that was all at once efficacious in its historical content, as well as infused with "cutting edge" paranormal investigative techniques.

Bringing a "show" idea from concept to television is a lengthy process, and the average time runs about two years. Dead Reckoning, however, is far ahead of that curve in that we now have a well-known producer who is onboard, ready to pitch the concept to several major network and cable channels.

I have to clear up one misconception, however... Dead Reckoning is NOT a TV Show! We are a TV Show CONCEPT. When we first started this effort, I knew very little about the creation and procedure for putting an effort like this together. We were told many different things, from "You have to have three complete episodes filmed and in the can in order to pitch," to: "you do NOTHING before you pitch your show, and you walk into a meeting with a business card and a concept only." Over the last several months, we began filming episodes, but once we made connections with producers who were willing to pitch the concept as a potential show, we were quickly told to STOP all film production, as we would end up with "nothing more than expensive home movies." What we learned was that in this process, should we be picked-up by a network, THEY would - basically - trash-can everything we pre-produced in lieu of their OWN production house re-creating the episodes we filmed. So for the last couple of months, Dead Reckoning has been put on a sort of "production HOLD," awaiting the pitch process to be completed.

Many of you have already had the opportunity to view the trailer/teaser - and so have our pitching producers and others who are repping us to networks. While a few of the people in the trailer are no longer with the effort, it represents some of the early work we filmed for the purpose of garnering attention for the idea. Both of the producers pitching this effort have given us some instruction as to what we need to do to make the trailer more "saleable" as they pitch to television entities, and we are currently in the process of reengineering a new trailer. That new trailer will be available for you to view by the second week of March. Keep in mind, the second version of the trailer is meant to be more informative as to the show's concept, and less of the "music video" style of the first.

New additions to our team are Danny and Nikki. They are seen in this group shot with Raini and me, taken Saturday, February 28th, 2009 by Joel Jameson photography... (click on the picture to see a larger image)...

At this point I would like to extend praise to our own Nikki, who spent many hours and expended much talent creating the existing trailer. She brought to Dead Reckoning not only a desire to help create something cool and fun and exciting, but years of know-how in the independent film industry. Without her efforts, we would not be as far along as we are today. She has become a valuable asset to this effort, and I am very glad she is here!

As to the changes on the Dead Reckoning team, I was once told by a sage, business mentor of mine, "The people you begin with are rarely the same people you end up with." That is the case with this effort. While some of the faces are changing, the concept remains true to its origins, and we are moving ahead with great speed and focus.

Please keep checking back here in the very near future to see updates as to the progress of getting Dead Reckoning on the air. We are closer now than we have ever been, and we have a tightly knit team of people - both internal and external - who are dedicated to making this effort a reality.

I wish I could tell you all more about the details and the personalities involved, but for now, this version of "Dead Reckoning UPDATE Lite" will have to suffice. I am chomping at the bit to share more, and hopefully the near future will yield the exciting, detailed news and information we are all wanting to share.

Thanks for being part of us as we endeavor to make this baby a reality!

Cheers!
~Scotty

I have three swords for sale, immediately. They are fine mastered replica swords that have been used for stage combat and costume use. However, they are made of steel and fine workmanship that would have made them masterpieces of weaponry in their historical day.

BASKET HILTED SCOTTISH BACKSWORD - $950

This sword has a replica blade, handle and pommel, but the basket is original to the mid-1740s. Note the pockmarking in the steel. It also bears a "Crown & Cypher" seal at the top of the basket, as well as what we think was a military stock number.

GERMAN RAPIER - $700

This thrusting rapier has a stiff narrow blade with a single fuller extending from the forte approximately 12 inches. The guard is of an early form with a post and arm at the base of the hilt arms, instead of the more usual ring. The elements of the guard and pommel are highlighted by raised acanthus leaf designs. The grip is wire bound with turksheads top and bottom.
You can see this very same sword at www.armor.com, the official website of Arms & Armor.

NORTHERN ITALIAN RAPIER - $650

This is a classic replica Northern Italian Rapier from the last quarter of the 16th century. This elegant hilt is crafted in steel with three sweeping bars, bisected with discs at the mid-line of the fore guard. The blade is a period-style practice blade constructed of 6150 steel and tempered. It has the distinctive forged button tip seen on original practice blades (which, if you look closely in the shot of the wall-mounted swords, can be clearly seen). These were sometimes referred to as "nails," for obvious reasons.

When forty (eight) winters shall besiege thy brow,
And dig deep trenches in thy beauty's field,
Thy youth's proud livery, so gazed on now,
Will be a tatter'd weed, of small worth held:
Then being ask'd where all thy beauty lies,
Where all the treasure of thy lusty days,
To say, within thine own deep-sunken eyes,
Were an all-eating shame and thriftless praise.
How much more praise deserved thy beauty's use,
If thou couldst answer 'This fair child of mine
Shall sum my count and make my old excuse,'
Proving his beauty by succession thine!
This were to be new made when thou art old,
And see thy blood warm when thou feel'st it cold.
