Current mood: I have faith, still
Category: Religion and Philosophy
The Jonas Brothers and Miley Cyrus are not meant for adults. They're meant for kids. Hating on kids' music should really be beneath the skills of any adult. Besides, we all liked shitty music back then. I know for a fact some of you music snobs loved Limp Biskit ten years ago. (Buskit? I'm not bothering to look that up.) I got Electric Light Orchestra on my iPod right now.
Stephanie Meyer is not a talented writer, to be sure. But I've read the Twilight series and it's fun, mindless, goop. It's enjoyable. I don't see y'all picking on some of the popular male writers. For that matter what's the difference between the inanity of Jerry Bruckheimer's work and Meyer's?
Coldplay isn't the worst band in the world. They aren't. I can name several worse bands right here, right now. People need to quit focusing on Coldplay and instead promote lesser bands they really love. I harp on people needing to listen to Richard Thompson all the time.
If one more meme or person dismisses starlets or celebutantes as sluts I'm gonna scream and punch a light fixture. Dismissing a woman based on her sexuality is the most sexist thing you can do. That's what we do in America: accuse women of being easy and men of not being manly. So men, fuck and kill everything that moves to prove yourselves! Women, only be sluts when you are committed heart, body, and soul to one special man, otherwise keep them legs shut!
Or quit buying into obvious ploys of manipulation by social mores and advertising and the media. This is my favorite option.

Women are
still unused to the notion that they have power over their lives. It really means becoming the agent,
and choosing for oneself, whether the choice is motherhood, working,
etc. Those who say feminism is opposed to marriage couldn't be more
wrong. They are just frightened of women being free. We are not as far
from the Muslim restrictions as we like to think.

Good morning, Blog! Good morning, World! ~My parents finally sent away for their kit to participate in the National Geographic Genome Project and I am psyched. I was going to do it myself, then thought, "Hell, or each of my folks could do it!" So they sent back their mouth swabs and in a few weeks I'll know from which ethnic groups they, therefore I, stem from. ~Note to self: need smoked paprika. ~My new digs are treating me well. Perfect for one person, good for one person and one cat, all right for one person, one cat, and one dog, and full to its capacity with one person, one lover of said person, one cat, and one dog. Currently we are minus one household member as Kris has gone offshore. Only man I've ever known that can dress in the dark without awaking every other living being on the block. He said he would have meetings all day on the rig. I said, "There are meetings offshore?!" Then I realized I've pretty much just dated roughneck types (both on and off shore), not higher-ups. But this was a lot to take around 1am so I told him to not get dead and see ya in three days. ~It's easier to act like I don't care sometimes. Doesn't mean I don't. ~Let's say you have a bone to pick with me. Let's say I did or said something to genuinely offend you. But by the time we talk I tell you one of my pets is desperately ill and going to die. Is this really, really the time to say that you're sorry for me but because you are offended you don't think you'll be around to comfort me? Sometimes you gotta shelve your bullshit. Because when someone does that, it makes me think that only their own feelings are important, so important that they cannot objectively view that SOMETIMES YOU NEED TO STUFF IT BECAUSE BIGGER STUFF IS HAPPENING and that, while I will certainly apologize later, right now I don't wanna hear it. ~Relatedly, it's amazingly stupid to shut up over years and years when someone hurts you repeatedly, because when they come at you with something you did, suddenly you don't feel that sorry. ~Kris just keeps cooking and I keep eating. I've gained like 10-15lbs so if any of my enemies are reading, rejoice! The man is making me fat. I want him to go offshore for like a month so I can get back to where I was, the bastard. And it doesn't help that he cooks so well. As a matter of fact, it's time for his meatball stew for breakfast! ~The Howdies are my favorite band ever. ~Louisiana heat be damned, I work near a park and am going to go. Anyone wanna meet me in the evenings or lunch breaks for a walk/run? Hit me up. ~Been writing lots of new stuff but seems to all be from the P.O.V.s of characters or people I know. I'm bored with me. I'd rather think like you. ~Well, I'm off to work. Yes, on a Saturday. Toodle-oo.

You can skip it if ya wanna, but read the last three lines, if nothing else?
Give All to Love
Give all to love; Obey thy heart; Friends, kindred, days, Estate, good fame, Plans, credit, and the muse; Nothing refuse.
'Tis a brave master, Let it have scope, Follow it utterly, Hope beyond hope; High and more high, It dives into noon, With wing unspent, Untold intent; But 'tis a god, Knows its own path, And the outlets of the sky. 'Tis not for the mean, It requireth courage stout, Souls above doubt, Valor unbending; Such 'twill reward, They shall return More than they were, And ever ascending.
Leave all for love;— Yet, hear me, yet, One word more thy heart behoved, One pulse more of firm endeavor, Keep thee to-day, To-morrow, for ever, Free as an Arab Of thy beloved. Cling with life to the maid; But when the surprise, Vague shadow of surmise, Flits across her bosom young Of a joy apart from thee, Free be she, fancy-free, Do not thou detain a hem, Nor the palest rose she flung From her summer diadem.
Though thou loved her as thyself, As a self of purer clay, Tho' her parting dims the day, Stealing grace from all alive, Heartily know, When half-gods go, The gods arrive.
~Emerson

Marc told me several months ago to "give it all away." Who cares, he said? Well I fucking cared.
Something happened about a month ago...something clicked, snapped, choked itself off in the bathroom, whatever happened I just stopped caring. My heart, my emotions, my time are all tails of lizards regenerating every time a child steps on it and takes it away.
An old friend of mine said apathy should be taught starting in first grade. I'm beginning to get it now.
Thank god for wounds and the balms that heal them.

The following is a repost from my dearly loved Meg!'s profile.
Hint:
If you like a gal or have a ladyfriend, let her know. Let her know she is the most beautiful woman you've ever seen. Treat her like she is special and not just anyone would do for you. Obviously, be genuine. If you don't feel these things, keep your trap shut and find someone who does it for you. I'm tired of seeing chicks accepting less because of low self-esteem, etc, and I'm tired of guys saying junk over the years that doesn't seem backed up by any real feeling.
Believe me, I ain't pickin' on dudes or saying they're the root of relationship problems, I'm just talking about this one point. Maybe I sound naive, but there's obviously more to a zillion stories this ties in to...but, if you love me, for instance, treat me like it! (No, I'm not forcing anyone's hand in that statement- relax, fellas)
Don't waste your time on someone who does nothing for you and don't waste her time either.
Oh, and never ASK a girl if you can kiss her, lame-o! Just do it! Maybe she'll laugh or walk away, maybe she'll slap you across the face (which can be good, too) but you were decisive and confident, very hot and manly.
Know who else is hot and manly? Everyone in Wolverine-- eeeeeeeeeeek!

Current mood: MAGICAL
I haven't posted in some weeks so I thought I'd say hello.
I've grown to resent both MySpace and Facebook. I resent them because I cannot, for professional reasons, delete either account -- they are simply too valuable as tools for me to do so. I resent them because we are now never alone.
Anyway, fun stuff happening lately but none I can yet publicly share. I'll keep you posted.

Current mood: sad yet humbled by the reminder to have gratitude
Category: Writing and Poetry
This is the geography, the way:
12:01am "Drowning in his own blood." This is told to me. North of me is a family Watching a crippled boy Who grew into a dying man Secede to the warm waters of the body We live outside in We die inside out We're fucked that way
The system has a kink in its chain When some of us live in beds Looking out windows to lives Others don't live at all
Birds yap and whine No matter how long you don't listen -- Ear pressed to pillow To block out the reminder Something can fly
Meanwhile, those of us Who can walk out of hospitals Drink, cut, and cry To kill the coward inside us all (I see you.)
He's dying now, as I write this. Respite is closing fast. A 9-year-old boy is finally Going to nail that fucking ramp -- What done him in In the first place! Close your eyes See it all clearly:
Your scuffed BMX The neighborhood kids jeering Being jostled by your brother "It's your turn!" Bear down gain speed Jerk the front wheel There's no rock in the way! Eyes are focused now! No giving up no going back No "I can't move my legs, Mama" No fruitless therapy No colostomy bag No tinkering with a dead spine No collegiate attempts No Katrina No only seeing your family from your back No bedsores or suicide plots No more wishful thinking
See it, take it, up you go now You did it, Buck!
Watch your family cheer As you hit the sky.

Clint came to visit and it's always a time! Clint is famous for his rambling mumbles and it's incredibly endearing. Also, weird. So says the chick who spent half an hour showing Clint 9/11 conspiracy theories on YouTube. Self burn!
Anyway, this is a conversation that happened last night while watching some movie with Clint that had a train in it. (We watched Army of Darkness, V for Vendetta, then Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. I'm sure I don't know exactly which one triggered this but lemme say this -- watch those three in a row and man you just wanna huff ether and shoot guns!)
me: God, I love a train! You heard about Obama's plan to —
Clint: Knowwhatwouldbegreatifyou'recarwaspulledonrails!
me: Wazzat now?
Clint: Youknowifyouwantedtogetacrosscountryyoujustputyourcaronrailsand go?
me: ...
Clint: Yeahyeahit'dbeawesomeyoujusthaveyourcar,yaknow,butit'sonrails?
me: So like a train?
Clint: Nonotlikeatraincuzitwouldbeyourcar!
me: So like a traincar?
Clint: Nonono.
me: ...
Clint: NoI'msayingyou'dhaveyourcarandyoucouldtakeitcrosscountry!
me: So you could drive there.
Clint: Butit'dbeonrails.
me: So why not just ride a train?
Clint: Butthenyouwouldn'thaveyourcar.
me: Right, so why wouldn't you just drive across country if you wanted your car, then?
Clint: ...
me: ...
Clint: Iguessyou'reright.
me: Dude, I don't think I know WHAT just happened.
In between watching V and Fear and Loathing I went outside to walk Bobby Hank, and Clint thought I'd be gone a while. To which I shouted (SHOUTED!) to him across my house, "YEAH, I CAN'T GO FAR, I DON'T HAVE A BRA ON." Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight as two 11y.o. boys were outside of my gate. So if those are your kids, sorry 'bout that, but believe me I have never been so carefully watched by two children walking down my steps so take comfort that their eyesight is top notch.

I finally found a good vet through my friend Rabbit. He's a country doctor, doesn't take appointments so you have to wait around for a long time, but he's cheap and accurate and caring with amazing vet techs who were funny, knowledgeable, and calming. Bobby Hank has had this skin issue for a while: biting, licking, etc. occasionally to the point of blood drawn. Now his skin is flakey, which I thought was a sign of healing, but nay -- allergies. Now I have to bring him to a dermatological specialist (former vet professor from LSU, very good, works out of her house now in her retirement) so if you need the name of one, holler. His biting has caused an infection. So after a shot he is doing better and is now on daily antibiotics and allergy medication. Here's why I am writing this: Pets can develop allergies later in life, with seemingly no provocation. I did not know this. Bobby Hank has been the picture of health until six or so months ago. My trips to my previous vet yielded nothing, just staved off the symptoms. He got better and then worse again very, very quickly. Just like with our doctors, vets sometimes don't listen. After consulting with my now previous vet she said, "Well, that's why we wanted you to come in for a follow-up last time." I told her no one told me that, or I surely would've come. Of course she's going to believe her vet techs when they lie and say they told me -- I probably would, too -- but the fact remains that since I wasn't told I was entitled to a follow-up visit, Bobby got worse. So now there's an infection. And I must stop the allergy. Because now it's cyclical -- allergy, biting, infection, infection leads to more biting, which worsens the skin and the allergy. Basically, I'm gonna do what I have to do to heal my doggy. So over the next few weeks I'll be selling stuff. I'll set up a kissing booth if I have to. If you want something I post, please snap it up so I can afford to get Bobby the help he needs. I am openly pandering to you who have furry friends and I have no shame. To take Nicole Blackman slightly out of context He may be face down on the pavement but I'm not and I will fight you to save his life because every day in so many ways he saved mine.
P.S. Please don't think my pup-pup is at death's door. He'll be fine. But it's important that I speedily get this trouble under control so I can have several more years with him.
This is Bobby Hank with his favorite toy, now long chewed up!
