October 27, 2009 - Tuesday
I have to leave the Extreme Brothel Make Over early so I can get to SEX WEEK at Kent State. Sounds crazy! Ya. I thought so too. Read this...

Sex Week will feature:

• I Love Female Orgasm at
8 p.m. Monday in the Student Center Ballroom.

• The Panel at 8 p.m. Tuesday in Kiva.

• Sex Toy Party (Ladies Only) at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Rathskeller.

• Talkin Sex with the Sigmas (Men Only) at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Cyber Café

• Craig Gross Founder of XXXchurch at 9 p.m. Wednesday in the Student Center Ballroom.

• Drag Show at 8 p.m. Thursday in Cartwright Hall.

• Sextoberfest 'After Hours' at 8 p.m. Friday in the Student Center Ballroom.
Students will be faced with that uncomfortable talk about the birds and the bees this week for "Sex Week."

"We just want to open a platform for students to basically discuss these things," said Ashleigh Newberry, Kent Interhall Council vice president of programming and development. "We call it our journey through sex, love, relationships and everything in between."

Sex Week will offer new avenues to get students talking about sex. Craig Gross, founder of XXXchurch, will discuss pornography and its grasp on our society at 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Student Center Ballroom.

XXXchurch is an organization that helps people deal with pornography dependency.

"It's sort of like a different take on porn, not so black and white," said Kevin Pospichel, Kent Student Center Programming student co-manager. "It's not going to be your run-of-the-mill talk."

--------
Kent Interhall Council is sponsoring a panel discussion among people with diverse views on sex and relationships at 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Kiva.

The panel will infuse moderator and audience questions directed toward people with conflicting views on sex.

"One person (panel member) is a black male. He actually has decided he's quitting black women and he thinks, in his words, that black women degrade and belittle the black male, so he has switched to white women," Newberry said.

Sextoberfest will feature games and giveaways in a health-fair environment to teach about sex at 8 p.m. Friday in the Student Center Ballroom.

"(Students will) put a condom on their hand, and then they each put baby oil on their hand and see who can break the condom first," said Newbury. The game demonstrates how oil-based lubricants weaken condoms.

"Every game is educational," said Newberry. "It's just these really fun, different games that you wouldn't normally have at a health fair."

Kent Student Center Programming is providing free condoms for Sextoberfest with a friendly reminder on the package: "This moment brought to you by KSC Programming."

Here is an amazing story from someone who we have been in contact with from the adult industry. We are going to help with her November rent. If you would like to help you can donate here.

My fiance was never the religious type. He was actually brought up in an
anti-religious home, where his mother and father taught him his
whole life that religion was ridiculous; I was brought up in a divided
home. I had a mother who was very religious, but did not practice what she
preached, and a father who believed nothing of it. Growing up I always
believed in God, but I lost myself and my faith while working in the adult
entertainment industry.

When we decided we wanted to change our lives and quit adult
entertainment, we knew we wanted to change more than anything in the world
but didnt know where to go or who to reach out too.

I remembered a while ago watching MTV's True Life "I am addicted to porn"
and hearing about the XXXChurch. I decided to check them out and send them
my story. Two days later Laura emailed me back and asked if she could call
me. After our first phone converstaion my life will never be the same. She
began by telling me her story and it felt so good to know that I wasn't
alone. She prayed for me and told me God loved me and tears began to fall
down my face. She told me it wasn't going to be easy, and believe me, it
hasn't been, but I knew then and there I needed to change my ways and
devote my life to Christ. She recommended going to church and told us
where a fellow member of the XXXChurch went that was near my home. I was
nervous to ask my fiance to attend with me since I knew he wasn't a
religious person, but he and I figured Laura was the first person in our
lives to offer to help so we might as well try it out. We were both very
nervous going to church and didn't know what to expect, but thankfully,
Danny, a fellow member of the XXXChurch helped us every step of the way. I
shared my story with him and he in turn shared his story with me.

I can't even begin to explain to you how truly touched we are by Laura and
Danny and all the other people that are behind us and support us in our
journey to get out of our past life and on the right path. Laura and Danny
have been there every step of the way encouraging us, giving us support,
sending us clothes, helping us look for jobs, giving us books and bibles,
even lunch money. It's sad to say but I am not used to people being so
nice to me without wanting something in return. I still can't believe how
hard people are working to help us when they barely even know us. My
fiance once told me he, '...would never believe in organized religion'. He
now says this is the happiest he's ever been and all the good that has
come into our life since we decided to accept Christ into our life is
definitely a sign that God exsists and He is good.

We are both so excited to continue going to church and be good, God loving
people. Each and every day we are amazed at the good things God has given
us and we feel like our hearts are finally begining to heal. With the help
of every one and especially God, I had the stregnth to walk away from my
horrible past [stripping, escorting, cam-girl, alchoholism as a way to
escape]and start a new life with good people in it and a good relationship
with God.

I got a part time job that I will be starting shortly and with the help of
Danny and Laura at the XXXchurch, my fiance has been able to get some part
time construction work. We know that it is not going to be easy but we
know that the life we were living was wrong. We are not looking for a hand
out and are willing to do whatever it takes to turn our life around and
life in the way God intended. Clay and I would love to get married soon,
but financially, we can't afford it at the moment. He even bought me
a ring from the quarter machine becuase he can't afford a real one yet.

I can't thank everyone enough that is behind us and supports us in what we
are trying to do. I was so broken and at a very low point in my life
before. I didn't feel that I was worthy of Christ's love and while I know
it is a major wound that will not heal over night, I now know that God
does love me and that if I just trust in the Lord anything is
possible!

Thank you again for all your help.

Forever Grateful

LOTS OF STUFF TO UPDATE YOU ON! Here is the first thing. If you want to help out we made an AMAZON wish list and you can purchase things and have them sent. More to come, but check out our list here:

*******

If you have watched Episode #28 you have heard about the brothel in Ely that we have been working with since February. If you have not watched it, go watch it now.
The brothel in Ely is very old, in fact it's a historical site for the state of Nevada, and it's having a hard time because of it's old age.  These rooms are in desperate need of some freshly painted walls, new bathrooms, and some carpet.  What a thought, actually going and meeting a physical need that effects these gals daily.  Chances are they would remember you and the love you showed them, and it would not be forgotten.
Two ways to get involved.
1. GIVE. We need to raise $10,000 to make this happen. Donate on line now and select "Brothel Makeover" in the drop down menu.

Ultracart

2.  Serve with us.  Do you have the guts to show up? We could use a few people willing to help us out October 25-28th. We are looking for a group of talented construction workers, decorators, painters, and just hard workers to come out to town of Ely, Nevada and give a brothel a makeover!
If you are interested in joining us on the trip. We are asking everyone who is coming to raise $600 for the trip plus pay for airfare out to Vegas and your meals. We will cover your hotel. You can register for the trip on the SERVE site by clicking HERE.

3. If you want to purchase something you can check out our AMAZON WISH LIST by clicking HERE.

Today was an incredible day. It was the 4th stop on the Jesus Loves You tour. We were in Detroit for the Free House Sunday giveaway that corresponds with the "Jesus Loves The Disconnected" chapter in the book. We have been working with Citadel of Faith Covenant Church since May to pull off this great day. Because of the crazy economy and the even harder times the city of Detroit is facing we decided to give away a house at church today. Over the past several weeks 113 people have filled out an entry on www.freehousesunday.com. We worked with Citadel and Lisa Johanon from the Central Detroit Christian  Community Development Corporation to select the family for this house and to restore the house.

Hundreds of volunteers have helped make this happen. The house was initially given to the house by someone who had passed away. We pitched in $2,000 to start the work on the house and countless number of other people have given money and hours of hard work to pull this off.
At the church service today, it was standing room only in the service. It looked like it was at least 1,000 people that were in the auditorium for the noon service as the winner was selected.

The winner of the house was Thereatha Baker. Here is part of her story.
Do to the lose of her husband, which was the primary income of the house whole. She can not afford the rent where she is now, and the landlord is selling the house and she has to move at any giving day with no money for first and last months rent. It been a trying time since her husband passing and all bills that do, there's no money to live off of nor to put food in the house. If she pays her rent she has no money left to pay bills or buy food with that being all the money she has for the month to live off of. It been by the grace of god she as made it this far.

There is still some more work to be done on the house they should be able to move into the house in the next few weeks. New appliances, heater, cabinets, carpet, tile, bathroom fixtures, sinks, bath, paint, walkway are just a few things that were done to this house.
At church 30 people committed to following Jesus as Pastor Carey shared a dynamic message. He talked out of Genesis about the word "Covenant". He assured people that Jesus would always hold through on his part of the agreement. He mentioned that "Jesus loves you before you do what you do because he did what he did."

At the close of the service Pastor Carey asked for people to consider joining Citadel of Faith Covenant Church if they did not have a home church and wanted to get plugged in. About 55 people came forward to join the church after the service.
Around 3pm, we took a tour of the house. We were able to pray over the house and for the moving in of the Baker family. Pastor Carey, Lisa Johanon, Jason Harper and I took a photo of the house on our way out.

September 1, 2009 - Tuesday
Jason just wrote this on the Jesus Loves You site. Thought I would post it here.

Yesterday, Craig and I and two of our friends rolled in to Topeka to start the Jesus Loves You Book Tour.  With Westboro Baptist, the bastion of hate, as our first stop, the unknown swirled in our car.  For both Craig and I, awkward environments are not new to us.  In fact, we like them.  But something was different.  Nervousness gnawed at us, only to later be identified as utter confusion.  Normally when we go into venues uninvited, they are people who look, act, think, and TALK different then us.  We maintain civility despite differences and in most, if not all, cases, relational equity is increased.  But loving those that hate is hard.

Question 1:  How can we purpose for tolerance, if we were not willing to be tolerant?
When walking into a church, it is normal to see people carrying familiar items; bibles, etc.  Most of the time, people in church speak in a familiar tone using familiar words.   In the message portion, they speak on familiar scriptures.  Yet at Westboro, it looked like a church from the outside, but on the inside, it spewed hate, fear of people, and out of context rhetoric that ‘Daddy Phelps’ has vomited for 62 years.  Looking into hollow shells of confused souls made a coldness highly visible; A coldness in the soul.

Question 2:  Do they really believe this stuff?
I don’t know.  My interaction was focused mostly on two Phelps.  Shirley Phelps and her daughter were very cordial, kind, and even somewhat hospitable.  It was as if something inside of them was screaming to be released.  They laughed with us, not at us.  They were obliging of all of our questions.  They joked with us.  As whacked as we both thought they were, they thought the same of us.  Shirley said Craig needed to cut his hair and I needed to get rid of my ear rings.  We expected that.  But the basis of their belief is SO fundamentally flawed and tattooed on their brainwashed souls, a civil conversation prevailed, but doubtful of any traction.  In fact, we didn’t go there to convert them.  We went there to take the first step in saying “we came to your church to listen in respect.”  Maybe someday, one of the kids will do the same.

Question 3:  Wasn’t going to Westboro a waste of time?
No.  In fact, we had an opportunity to get a front row seat in their den of deception.  We don’t hate them.  We are instructed to love them.  I would NOT call them an enemy.  Again, they were kind to us one on one.  Yet even if someone considered then an enemy, Jesus said, “Love your enemy.”  Today, we did.  When love is offered or exhibited, it is never a waste; even if the hand is closed.  The Topeka paper did an incredible story on our reason for being in Kansas.  Local 13 News did an evening piece.  In both cases, people of Kansas and beyond were able to see hope in a place they normally hear hate.

Question 4: Where can I see the stories they did on the Jesus Loves You Book Tour in Topeka?

We will post everything on www.jesuslovesyou.net. You can buy the book on AMAZON.
