Hey everyone! First, I'm sorry for the very extended leave of absence. As most of you faithful followers of The Myriad already know I have been waging war with cancer. It has been a long and difficult battle for me, my family, and the whole Myriad team. It is still far from over but I am happy to report that the cancer is still slowly disappearing. My doctors have given me the green light to tour again! Which brings me to my second topic... TOUR! Yes we will be on tour with Tyrone Wells starting in a few short weeks. I am so excited to be playing again. It's nice to see The Myriad staff back in action. We are alive and very well. We are proud to represent the Humane Society on this tour. They approached us a few months ago and when we learned about what they do, we said we would love to help them get the word out. Anyway, thank you for hanging in there with us. Your love and support have played a BIG role in this ordeal. I can't thank you all enough. I look forward to seeing you on tour, we have lots to talk about.
More to come...

Yep. We're headed out on the road this fall... headed toward YOU! And this time, we're touring for a purpose: namely: being good stewards of our big beautiful planet by protecting its splendid creatures from cruelty and inhumane treatment. Sounds complex, eh? Actually, it's not; it's quite simple. Go here: The Humane Society Watch.
That's it. You're brain will take it from there.
Check out the dates and the locations and see when you can come out. Think: Universities. Think gorgeous auditoriums. Think rock clubs, too! ALSO: think of sparkly guitars. LOUD GUITARS! WHOO! (Retirement homes, beware... or hit the bee square? What?)
FYI: we'll be out on tour with Tyrone Wells. Good times! That's it for now, Myriad faithful.
Wait. No. It's not.
Our amazing, spectacular drummer Randy Miller will be drumming with us on this tour. And lighting the world on fire.
Thank you for your prayers and your donations. YOU have changed the world simply by being you and by actually caring.
And you will continue to change the world!
Cheers!

Randy:
hey ya'll
i just got back from the doctors office. it turns out that the latest
bone scan showed no cancer and a bunch of new (healthy) bone growth!
YEAH! we were so excited to hear that. it was the best doctors visit so
far. there still is the problem of the tumors on some of my organs.
they have shrunk quite a bit and are showing a lot of calcification.
(the cancer cells are being turned into scar tissue) but it seems that
the chemo is kicking the cancers ass! i have just passed the half way
point in my treatment. my doctor also gave me the green light for
touring in the fall. she is working
on my long term chemo schedule this week. i
love and miss you all so much. i feel so good right now. it's hard to
express. we still have a long way to go but it feels like tide has
finally turned in my favor. more to come... see ya!

Randy had a bone scan 2 weeks ago that showed that there are still
bone lesions in his pelvic bone and thighs. We haven't been able to
follow up with the Dr. to see what she feels about it yet. He had
another rough cycle of chemo, but is still focusing himself on music
and the new album. He is keeping up his spirits, and is planning on
barreling through til the end of the year with chemo... and is really
looking forward to having eyebrows again.

Randy:
"hi guys, just a quick update. i went to stanford yesterday. they said things are looking great. there will be no change in treatment just more chemo to pound the cancer into remission. here is a funny little thing. the doctor's assistant asked me how i was feeling and i replied very good. she broke from her cool doctor character and said really!?! she flipped through her chart quickly to verify the punishment they were prescribing me and then looked at me with surprise in her face. according to her papers, i should be half dead. they are very surprised by my strength. their applause made me feel really good. i am doing extremely well. good news although i feel pretty down. i miss you all and want to play music very badly. i want to be myself again. the chemo takes all that away from me. it's very frustrating. just as i start to feel somewhat normal it's time to do it again. tomorrow i go back in. very hard. well, back to my current job of getting through this. take care and God bless." rj 2/23/09
Randy:
"hello all, on wed. the 25th i go down to stanford for evaluation. i'll find out how well the chemo is working and discuss the next phase of treatment. later next week i will once again be back in the hospital for my next round of chemo. i am currently doing well although far from normal. each round proves to be harder than the last. five more to go! thank you for your constant prayers and encouragement. i hope to see you soon." 1/27/09
Randy:
"Hi everyone, just finally felt up to some typing. i am doing good. this last cycle really took something out of me. i miss you all very much. the chemo makes me feel less than human and the last two weeks have been hard. the good news is that my last scan was very good and has the doctors excited. the cancer is shrinking! after this next cycle they are going to send me back down to stanford for phase two. i don't know what exactly that is but when i find out i'll let you know. it feels like it's been forever but i'm only a third into this. the chemo is so very hard. i must say i very much underestimated it. truth is my chemo is A LOT more intense than most so i'll forgive myself. most people i talk to do it for part of a day and then walk out. mine is admitted to a hospital for a week. the kids are doing well with all this change which makes me proud.
i hope you are all doing well. i have been having musical dreams the last few days as i return to normal. i miss playing music dearly.
thank you for all that you have done for us. your love, encouragement, and support mean everything in this battle."
There are immediate and ongoing financial needs for Randy and Kristyn and kids, Connor and Gillian. These needs can be met by donating to a "Mercy Fund" set up by a non profit organization called The Stirring and currently designated to Randy Miller. There are a few different ways you can send tax deductible donations to this fund. One is online at www.thestirring.org. Located to the bottom right of the main page you will see "ONLINE GIVING". If you click on this link you will be directed to a secure page where you can set up an online giving account. Once the account is set up you will see the "MERCY FUND" and be able to send secure donations to the family through this organization. Tax deductible donations can also be sent in the form of a check to: The Stirring RE: Randy Miller 3468 Bechelli Lane Suite E Redding, CA 96002
Any financial support you can give in order to help the Miller's through this difficult time is appreciated. Thanks for your prayers, The Myriad

Randy had scans done a week ago and got the results back yesterday. The good news is that the cancer is getting better, though we're not quite sure exactly what that means yet... as is always the case with this kind of thing. At the moment, it appears the chemo is shrinking the cancer. This is great news! Oft times chemo is completely ineffective. There is some bad news, however, it looks like the cancer has spread into another area in his body, his pancreas. Randy is presently undergoing his 3rd round of chemo and will be meeting with a specialist at Stanford as soon as he's completed said round.
Again: thank you dearly for all your love, prayer and support!

Randy: Hey ya'll, just wanted so say happy holidays! I miss you all lots and hope all is well with you. I'm back in the hospital for my second round of chemo. I must say that this time is much more enjoyable than the last. these drugs don't seem as harsh to my system. I hope that this pattern holds out until my last infusion on Friday. It would be nice to return home with a level head and body. I love and thank you guys for all you are doing for me. I feel very loved and supported. Merry Christmas and happy new year my friends!

Randy's first round with chemo was very painful; they kept him in the hospital for a week to monitor him during treatment. The good news is that he was and will continue to be able to undergo said treatment in Redding rather than down in the Bay Area with the various Stanford doctors (where they originally thought they'd need to treat him, now they'll be shipping all chemo materials to Redding). Three separate drugs are being used to combat the level 3 cancer. Two are somewhat "gentle" on the body, but the third is quite potent, bringing on supreme nausea and significant pain. Please continue your prayers for Randy during this time. He and his family are very, very grateful for all your love, diligent prayers, and support.
Update 3 & 4
Friends and family,
As some of you may have heard, our band mate Randy Miller had a large tumor removed from his left chest/shoulder area which has now been diagnosed as Mesenchymal Chondrosarcoma, an extremely rare cancer of the bone. Unfortunately, during the meeting with the specialist at Stanford this week, he was informed that the tumor removed was just the tip of the iceberg. The tumor is much larger than they originally thought and it extends into his shoulder and arm. There is also a tumor in his left pelvic area and thigh and still another large tumor located on his right adrenal gland which is possibly another type of cancer altogether. Due to the aggressive nature of this cancer which has now been graded STAGE 4, Randy will begin aggressive chemotherapy treatment today, December 1st. For this reason the doctors chose to keep him at the hospital for the week so they can monitor him closely. You can watch a short video on Randy Miller here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZZwEpoJix4w

Previous Updates:
Update 1:
Friends and family,
As some of you may have heard, our band mate Randy Miller had a tumor removed from his upper torso. It appears at this early stage, the large tumor removed from Randy's chest/shoulder area is diagnosed as Chondrosarcoma (cancer of the bone). Following a CT Scan to see if the cancer has spread to any other organs or areas provided us with good news. There appears to be only one suspicious area, the adrenalin gland, which they are evaluating over the next few days to see if it is cancerous. Randy is going to be connecting with a specialist at Stanford to find out the prognosis and appropriate treatment. This type of cancer is very rare and at this point the specialist has yet to 'grade' or determine the aggressiveness of the cancer. As far as your giving, there are medical and personal expenses to date and on the horizon and we, along with the family appreciate everything you guys are doing. These preliminary results are very good and God is really answering our prayers. We'll keep you updated as we learn more.
Update 2:
A PET Scan today (11/11) revealed suspicious spots around the surgical area, his left arm, adrenal gland and pelvis. Chondrosarcoma is very rare and for that reason treatment is necessary at special facilities. He has been referred to Stanford to determine the best course of action. The unfortunate thing is that Randy cannot talk with the specialist or even schedule an appointment until the state determines if he is qualified for Medi-Cal. It appears it could take weeks or longer before he finds out if he is qualified. We'll update you as soon as we know more.

And today, on this most glorious of days, we are home! And we are EXHAUSTED! This tour was a good run and a half: 51+ shows (7 Switchfoot shows prior to the Eisly run), 35,000 miles, and enough coffee consumption to fill a sleepy rhino!!!
What a wonderfully splendid spring tour! Sonsy and true~! We hereby want to wholeheartedly thank Eisley and Vedera for making the two monther a time of peace and joy... replete with convivial mirth: nonconventional and charming to the last. The kind of mirth that makes one want to rally and catch a 15 pound rainbow rather than a mere 1 ounce minnow. Forsooth. And now: a character breakdown... which is always more fun than lame blanket statements, right? Word up.
Vedera:
Bryan: an old world gentleman to the last; a real Willie Nelson! YES! Kristin: so sweet and genuine a woman that even oak trees feel lacking in their verisimilitude; a real Bjork! Corey: wise beyond his years... like a wizard; a real Gandalf the White in his youth! Lightning bolts blazing off his soundboard! Jason: quiet, but caring and always up for small installments of heartfelt goodness; a real Jason Bourne! Drew: what can I say about Drew??? Drew KICKS ASS like Chuck Norris on Christmas! And I mean Christmas, dammit! Rosey children!
Eisely
Boyd: "Pops" be-ith his name. And sagacity be-ith his game... especially if one wishes to discuss music circa the last 50 frickin' years. I love Boyd because he loves the Carpenters... and I love the Carpenters... so there you go. Boyd is like Jimmy Stuart. All heart. American heart. Golden like eternal forever and ever. Ice cream and Chevrolet. Chauntelle: She is one for real, human conversation... in the way that an alpine lake is one for refreshing summer swims complete with boats and neon green snorkels! Good times, I tell you what! She is a real Katharine Hepburn, standing in 30's garb smack dab in the middle of a verdant field dappled with amiable sunlight! Word. Weston: Holy crap. Seal the gates! Seal the gates! A JUICY T-Rex is a'coming through... and he's a goshdern blackbelt full up to his jucky Asics with wit and jocular panache! Weston is really Chris Tucker pissed off; in a good way, of course. Minus Jackie Chan, but still with broken boards, splinters, and greased muscles. Stacey: Stacey is simply Paula Abdul... HA! JUST KICKING! She is most certainly NOT Paula Abdul. Stacey is Billy Corgan... HA! JUST KICKING! She is most certainly NOT BilCo. So, then, just who IS Stacey, anyhoo....???? Well, to us, Stacey is supremely and entirely Paul McCartney. Except, of course, she is a woman, and not in her sixties, which makes a real difference if one really ponders it. She is "Mother Nature's Daughter" instead of son. Boomshackalacka. Garron: I hope your name has two "r"s. Garron is Sean Connery at his sexiest... with a bass and a Marxophone thingy so that he can play "Combinations" with audible flare... and then John and Mark can spend extra time packing up that dang Marxophone every frickin' night... wasting precious load out time! But, back to Garron: James Bond, a real-live Dragon, Highlander, father of Indiana Jones, etc. He is the real deal. Open your wallets, folks, and bless him with your hard earned cash... simply because he is Scottish and a bad ass. Think heart of a lion. Sheri: Sheri's name is my mother's name, back in Buckhorn, California. It's a name you don't hear too often. Did Boyd hearken back to the early fifties name grab-bag when he christened neonatal Sheri? Methinks so... and it is just such aforementioned historical gumption (ie being true to your roots) that gives us Sheri today, in all of her lazer-quick wittiness. Hence: she is Bill Cosby! And Bill Cosby hereby wins an award right the heck now for texting more than anybody (way, WAY more than anybody) during the duration of this tour. Kayla: Kayla is the President of the United States. And I still owe her two dollars. Her favourite food is steak. Being a denizen of Texas just might have something to do with this. Kayla is smart. Smart like an eaglet in the lofty ether... Kristi: Kristi is Mount Rushmore. Israel: Israel is The Black Hills. Zane: Zane is the gold nuggets in that region, hidden and valuable Madison: Madison is South Dakota... she contains whole fields of wheat, corn, and buffalo! John: John is a proficient, rapacious reader of novels! Mark: Mark LOVES Talk Talk and the 77's more than he loves breathing air. HA! I love you Mark. Golden Drakk.
I think that concludes my crappy yet amusing look at spring tour '08. Officially: Eisley's COMBINATIONS tour! Thank you, Duprees, for letting us be apart of such a lovely, sublime tour.
Cheers eternal, ya'll!

Pheeeeooowww! Are we ever pooped! 14 show dates in a row amidst 43 others and then, smack dab in the middle of those, a two day filming in the hubbub of NYC with a lovely, massive crew from MTV! (ie vans, semi-trucks, lights, science, huge cameras, those assembled track things the cameras glide upon, assorted props and album motif sets, and... the best part: SCRUMPTIOUS CATERING! COFFEE TO BOOT, TOO!) Pinch me.
We just finished all the shooting and boy oh boy are we excited. The very week our new record drops (With Arrows, With Poise/MAY 13) MTV will be airing around 25 different add spots featuring us, yours truly, um, THE MYRIAD... yes indeedy! We will be the ARTIST OF THE WEEK for that upcoming week. Methinks the precise term for the feature on MTV is "52 artists in 52 weeks" or something or other.
Our add spots feature us in full medieval raiment as The Order of the myriad... striking out on our own in the middle of Manhattan and sticking true to our 12th century ways of living despite the 21st century all around us. jovial jocularity ensues quickly... I assure thee. Juicy. MTV also filmed our live show that night at the Highline Ballroom in NYC, complete with lipstick cameras of the mighty future on our guitars, drums, and mics! So, like, we'll look really cool... much cooler than we really ARE! Cool like arctic grouper!
Tune in to both MTV and MTV2 for all the highlights in a couple weeks... AND: jump online (which, I guess, right now you actually already are online) and head over to mtv2.com to catch our hotly, freshly, newly filmed interview on Discover and Download. Good times, friends. Good times forsooth.

SEEEEEECRETS! MTV2 will be airing the video throughout the day on March 22nd to make sure ya'll get a chance to see it's wonderfulness.... and I mean wonderfulness! Why? Well, it's actually quite simple: THERE'S A WILD AND WOOLY BEAST IN THE VIDEO! There are delectable WOODLAND CREATURES IN THE VIDEO, SYLVAN AND TRUE! WE HAVE WEAPONS, TOO: a crossbow, a spear, bow and arrows, and a LOOKING GLASS WITH MAGIC POWERS DRIPPING FROM ITS GOLDEN AWESOMENESS!
There. Now you understand. You doubting Thomases you.
More highlights to wet your palette: 1. -Director Josh Forbes directed the thing and currently has the 1 video at VH1 by Sara Bareilles-Love Song.

...And SWEET NEW FALCONS~!
New sweet falcons? What? --- no idea, but falcons are inimitably cool... especially with battle helmets. Or, rather, with blood on their feathers... like John Denver sings on "The Eagle and the Hawk"... but wait, that's a hawk...
Um, never mind. Here's the real juice: 2008 will kick some seriously muscular buttocks!!! Why? Because it's just plain gutsier... like a falcon diving at full speed toward some juicy fur-bearing prey! Forsooth!
BOOM! :
- The Myriad's latest video "A Clean Shot" was produced by MTV2 in the NYC Times Square TRL studio December of 2007 and will start airing regularly on January 14th, 2008 and will continue to air throughout the year. Plus: the REAL music video for "A Clean Shot", the first single off our forthcoming record, will premiere on MTV2 on March 22nd!!! Hot love! {ALSO: The Myriad will have a downloadable song on the new video game ROCKBAND for xbox 360 and Playstation as well as taking part in MTV promos like "Discover and Download" and "Artist of the Week" throughout the year!}
- "With Arrows, With Poise" is wrapping up with a few last minute changes in NYC at Sterling Sound with acclaimed mastering engineer Greg Calbi (U2, Travis, Bjork, Beastie Boys, Interpol, Iron and Wine, Norah Jones, John Mayer, Blonde Redhead) overseeing said final tweeeeks. We are very excited for our new record. Excited like, well, as if the new record was a delcious, hot Americano... silty, silky, and fulfilling...; Said new record's release is slated for May 13, 2008.
The sneak peak EP, "Prelude to Arrows" is still available and you can pick that up here: http://www.downtownrivals.com/store/themyriad or at iTunes and wherever else music is sold digitally. BBQ in Kansas City is quite delicious.
- tour tour tour!!! come and see us on tour this year. we have some big plans and will be releasing tour dates as soon as we get confirmations. Key words: Eisley/Switchfoot/Athlete. We can't wait to see you all!!! Key Lime Pie in Florida is delicious.
ALSO: NEW Ringtones for some of the songs off the upcoming album are now available for you to download and jam on your phones, but be careful and please don't get arrested! The ringtones are so frickin' badical that we're worried they're borderline illegal like street rods with engines that are waaaaay too powerful. You know the kind. Purple. With lightnin' bolts painted on the hood. Frickin' badical. Like huge falcons screaming out in the night for justice. Frickin' ringtones.

"You waste time like a grandfather clock!"
"Where were you a week ago --- when we gathered in the courtyard? Where were you --- when we sang and our song shook the ground? Where were you a week ago --- when the church bells started swingin'? Where were you --- when they rang… and angels came down?"
You WASTE TIME like a grandfather clock! YOU waste time like a grandfather clock! ---and that's when we start counting sandbags that's when we start counting sandbags---
"Where were you a week ago --- when the green lime started growin'? Where were you --- when it burst and sprayed green the crowd? Where were you a week ago --- when the red sun wasn't sinkin'? Where were you --- when it cracked and sprayed fire about!?"
AND IF GOD DID PART THE CLOUDS --- DO YOU THINK HE'D BE PROUD?
"Get on the plane."
"Children, please, don't breathe the air; your lips are turning blue." (it seems that God was not impressed with clever crooked fools)
and if the sun comes up tomorrow - …we'll be fine
"Don't be afraid (you'll see!); this plan of ours won't fail." "We've built enough aeroplanes to fly us faaar from here."
and if the sun comes up tomorrow - …we'll be fine; we'll be fine.
"Get on the plane; get on the plane; get on the plane."
They said we'd live FOREVER! They said we'd live FOREVER! They said we'd live FOREVER!
forget what you came for
Forget what you came for. And give up what you have. Forget what you came for. And give up what you have.
As all the lights go down you'll see = that things aren't what they seem. For the sounds that spin you 'round will crush your bones.
Quit making noise. And lend an ear to the silent voice. And trust in the hope of 1,000 ships crashing down on the sea. Forget what you came for. Forget what you came for. FORGET WHAT YOU CAME FOR. And give up what you have.
Unhealthy rust in your blood stream… a lifeless frost to plague your dreams. Then all the ghosts that chill the air come and jolt your bones.
Quit making noise. And become still for the silent voice. QUIT making noise.
And wait:
a clean shot
I would die to be your lover lost at sea. And: I'd fly to hear your air raids sirening. And: I'd scream my love through bloody hurricanes Would you say so? If you thought of me???
Would you say so? If you thought of me? And: would it crush you? If you saw me bleed? And: would you dance the same? If you knew that I could see? Oh! DO you feel the same for me?
With guns ablaze! I'll bring you what you need! And: with fires! I'll raid! And wake your blinking city up! Yes: I'll scream my love! As arrows fill the sky! Would you say so? If you thought of me?
HEY NOW! OH NO! YOU GOTTA CLEAN SHOT! ALL THE WAYS YOU COULD PIERCE MY HEART! HEY NOW! OH NO! YOU'LL RUN ME RIGHT THROUGH! WITH ALL THESE words THAT I'VE SUNG FOR YOU!
the accident
"Sir," he said, "yes, YOU: right there; there's been an accident." "Please, sit down… and light your smokes; there's something I must tell you."
Break it down now and make it easier on me - Because it hurts when you drag --- through all the pieces - Break it down now! Just get to the point! You're KILLING me! ...Because it hurts.
{Stumbling upon his words; his tongue-tied beard did flow} Just SPIT IT OUT! You gotta get it all out for me. SPIT IT OUT right now! What's this cruel news that I should know?!
S P I T IT O U T ! COME ON AND GET IT ALL OUT FOR ME! S P I T IT O U T ! R I G H T N O W !!! holiest of thieves
They hover with their holy lights and begin to stir the skies …goin' down through swift clouds Yes: they can hover with their holy lights and begin to stir the skies …goin' down through swift clouds(!)
This time: we'll let them take us; oh hell, why not let them break us? For they must be: the holiest of thieves.
WHOA! HEY! STOP! {look around look around are we the only ones crazy enough?} WHOA! HEY! STOP! {look around look around are we the only ones giving up?} WHOA! HEY! STOP! {if this is love then don't put up a fight don't put up a fight} WHOA! HEY! STOP! {look around look around we are the only ones crazy enough.} {IHOPETHISLOOKSLIKELOVE}
This time: we'll let them take us; oh hell, why not let them break us? For they must be: the h o l i e s t of thieves.
Take us now. And cut our shaking fists off at the wrist. Break us now. And burn a hole right through us with a kiss. With your kiss. For we hope that this is what love looks like. For they must be: the h o l i e s t of thieves.
{WHOA! HEY! STOP!}
A Thousand Winters Melting The streets are filled with angels walking by my side and every time I listen close I hear their footsteps quickly run and hide. It's all a bit confusing...impossible at best! But when I walk alone at night I feel their holy presence lift my head. Love, love, a thousand winters melting. Love, yes love, as you wrap your arms around me.
They wait for us to listen to the voices we can't see. They wait 'til all the lights go down and finally we hear that melody. Love, love, a thousand winters melting. Love, yes love, as you wrap your arms around me. There's a thousand ways you love me and a thousand times you've shown me and if ever I've found love, I've found you.
polar bears and shark fins
Did you forget to read the signs: posted on every corner? POLAR BEARS have escaped: they are running thru-out the town! and still: you roll on: oblivious you pack up all of your things: and you roll on: oblivious
…wouldn't it be nice if we could ignore all the signs for just one day? …if we could break all of the rules for just one day?
Did you forget to read the signs: SHARKS are creeping in today! Tired of eating fish! In search of something more rewarding! [=you+me+adashofsalt] and still: you roll on: oblivious you pack up all of your things: and you roll on: oblivious
…wouldn't it be nice if we could ignore all the signs for just one day? …if we could break all of the rules for just one day?
for JUST ONE DAY. for just one day. for JUST ONE DAY! [as in: 0-1-3+4+1-6+5+2-1=1]
…wouldn't it be nice if we could ignore all of the signs for just one day? …if we could fall in LOVE and break rules for just one day?

Stuck In A Glass Elevator If we run we just might find that there's a way to get out of this place If we run we just might find that there's a way, that there's a way, to get out. To get out. And in the end the glass will crumble. In the end it will burst and break. In the end the glass will crumble. In the end, in the end, we'll get out. We'll get out.
Is it just me or is it getting hotter in this place? Is it just me or is it getting hotter? Let's get out!
Let's get out of this place?

We shot a music video for "A Clean Shot" with MTV2 which will air on regular rotation for the next 52 weeks. One of our songs will be available for download on the game ROCK BAND which is now out on PS3 and XBOX. MTV will be supporting the band in many ways throughout the year as their breakout band of 2007.

Indeed.
