We're beyond thrilled to announce that Jim James, lead singer of the mega-popular, arena-selling-out band " My Morning Jacket,"
has announced the upcoming release of a limited edition EP, with a
portion of the proceeds coming to the Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary!
The EP is a collection of George Harrison songs covered by Jim James
(under the alias "Yim Yames"). They were recorded back in 2001 -- just
a few days after Harrison's death -- and have been sitting in a vault
ever since.
Both Jim and WFAS Director
Jenny Brown happened to be in their common home town of Louisville when
they met for the first time, and Jim was moved by WFAS's mission to
rescue, protect and provide a voice for the most exploited and abused
beings in the world -- farmed animals. To learn more about Jim James and the Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary, visit our website! Read the article in the New York Times! Learn more about the record at yimyams.com!

I worked for years in film and television but after doing undercover video in factory farms, stockyards and evil places where farm animals are treated as commodities, I started an organization called Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary with my husband Doug Abel. We are on 23 acres in the beautiful Catskill Mountains and have over 150 rescued farm animals that have come from abuse, neglect and/or abandonment. They are my life and that life is dedicated to being a voice for them and farm animals everywhere. I am vegan, of course, and it's far easier than people think. It's also what allows me to keep my girlish figure! That and hard-core farm work! So, if you know me, support our good work! http://woodstockfas.org/donate.shtml

Martin's Rescue Run: Last November, mild-mannered book publisher Martin Rowe ran the New York City Marathon for his very first time. At his request, kind folks from across the country pledged a dollar a mile or more -- many tossed in extra if Martin completed the 26.2 mile race in less than 4 hours -- all to raise funds for the farm. MartinMartin's speed and dexterity, coupled with an anomymous donor matching the first $5,000, raised over $11,000 to help with medical bills for Albie the goat and other rescued critters. The bad news is that in running the race, Martin destroyed both his knees, ankles, and shins, his hips, elbows, forehead, neck bone which attaches to the back bone, and one kidney. The good news is that a team of government scientists, bi-partisan (but mostly democrats) completely rebuilt Martin with parts from a late 1970's TV series. The new, improved Martin has foolishly decided to run the dreaded NYC Marathon once again. And our anonymous matching donor has struck again -- matching the first $1000 raised. MAKE A PLEDGE FOR MARTIN'S 2008 RUNWhen not running marathons for charity and fighting crime, Martin Rowe is the co-founder of Lantern Books, publisher of books about animals, the environment, spirituality and vegetarianism. He is true friend, supporter and champion for animals.

The construction of our Animal Rehabilitation Center is nearing completion but we need your help! We're over 80% there. All we need is $22,000 more and we can install the hot water and heating, hospital pens, kitchen cabinets and fixtures -- and our dream of having a separate building dedicated to caring for sick, injured and incoming animals that require isolation will be complete! Please make donation right now to help us complete our funding needs for this building. With your help, we've raised over $130,000 for this much-needed building, and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support. rehab Meeting the health needs of newly rescued animals and our animal residents—chickens, turkeys, goats, sheep, pigs, and cows—is a big part of what we do. Please help us finish our Animal Rehab Center and help us care for our animals, who have escaped cruelty and neglect to live out their lives showered with love at the Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary. Thank you! ... more info about the building P.S. Stay tuned for our ribbon-cutting party date!

The abandoned birds living amongst trash and debris at the vacant lotWhen we got the call, ten hens and one goose were all that were left of the dozens of chickens, ducks and pigeons abandoned at a demolition site in Queens. The birds had been living there for weeks, but many had begun to disappear. They had presumably been left by the previous property owner. A concerned woman and WFAS supporter found out about the birds and checked on them for several days, giving them clean water and food. "So far, each time I have gone; there is never food or clean water—and, from what I understand, people have been coming in, netting them and I guess eating them," she reported. When we got the news that birds were disappearing, we contacted our board members who sprang into action. They found the site covered in trash and broken glass. The frightened hens were being protected by a fierce male goose. Gently each bird was caught and transported safely to the Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary, where they are settling in nicely. Update: As of yesterday, the gander (male goose) is now happily living with other geese and ducks at the Catskill Animal Sanctuary who have a lovely pond for them and the chickens were just adopted to our friend, supporter and previous chicken adopter Laurie Ylvisaker. Dawn Ladd and Dan Piraro along with volunteer Manuel Cando capture the gander (male goose) who put up a fight

The response to May's NY Times article has overwhelmed our email and PO boxes. The story of Albie the goat and Jenny the human -- both amputees -- went global via the International Herald Tribune and was picked up by other newspapers across the country & around the world. We heard from as far away as Nepal, and the Swedish ambassador to the US dropped us a kind note. Thanks to writer Fernanda Santos and photographer Joyce Dopkeen for their wonderful reporting. Get more details about Albie on our site, and be sure to check out a great video piece done by ZooToo.com.
