My wife and I have been watching the 4 hour season premire of 24. TV is coming out of its winter hibernation! I'm so glad. All the series I watch went on hiatus at about the same time last year. I was down to one: Daybreak. That was supposed to last until Lost came back after a 12 week break. Then some idiot decided to cancel it.
Why must they get you hooked on a series then cancel it half way through? Or cancel it after a cliffhanger season ending? That's one of the most annoying things about TV shows with continuing story lines. TV execs have no respect for the fans. Sometimes a really good show needs the time to grow an audience. It'll get some hooked the first season. More will come the second season. Friends and family and water cooler buds glom on. Eventually, the buzz builds from a quickly growing snowball into an avalanche.
That's if it doesn't get cancelled first.
I recall that 24 was on the chopping block last year, but reached the tipping point that saved it for another couple of years. That gives me and my wife a happy! Of course, now we have to send kids to bed so we can properly enjoy our TV experience. Still getting used to that. I'm stll way to slow with the pause when one of the kids walks in and corpses are blowing apart or the pole dancer is hitting her stride.
I'm still torn about changing our viewing practices. At least waiting 'till after their bedtime helps. After all, there's only so much Doodlebops/Highschool Musical/Dora and Diego I can take! I am proud to say, I have not once caught sight of the dreaded purple dinosaur. I've heard his name mentioned, and I've even seen it pop up on the kids' TiVo, but it hasn't shown it ugly foam head.
Now that Jack is back, my other TV shows are coming back soon. Battlestar Galactica is moving to Sundays. Why? I don't know. I don't care, I have 3 TiVos. I'm recording Star Trek: Enterprise on the Sci Fi channel. I stopped watching that at some point, so now I get a chance to catch it again from the beginning. HEROS! Yippie! And Prision Break: That's the other show my wife and I have in common.
Tonight, however, while American Idol records in the background Nee and I will be sharing a different sort of TV. We bought the DVD Snakes on a Plane. She HATES snakes. We're planning on having some fun tonight!
