Current mood:Weeeet!
http://www.aintitcool.com/node/41704#9 The really good part-- "Finally, we have ”Nora” by M. Sean McManus & Michelle Silva:
This is an ugly little tale of the oldest profession. For some reason,
I couldn’t get KILL BILL out of my head while reading this one.
Michelle Silva does a great job of mixing graphics with more typical
art. The graphics make this one sing with rich tones and shades. This
is one of those stories you may want to take a shower after reading,
but if it causes that much of a visceral punch, it’s got to be prety
darn good." ======================================== My man is like totally famous. Upcoming awesome: 1 - start my vacay @ 2pm tomorrow. 2 - going to get a plane to Tampa and hang with Chief Commander Bad Ass Loretta and President M. Sean McManus 3 - Gonna see HP and the HBP while I"m down there 4 - In the process of moving out and up into Mr. McManus' pad 5 - Will be in NYC the weekend of July 31st for JEF UK and AMERICANS UK gig @ SANTOS PARTY HOUSE (that's ANDREW WK's club dudes!) 6 - Gonna visit the elevated park while we're up there 7 - My dad retired! It's so awesome for him! I hope to follow in his footsteps sooner rather than later 8 - Laurita Quinn got us EDDIE IZZARD tickets for January! WEEE! That's all for now.

This past weekend we made
our way to my ‘rents so we could watch Shelly graduate high school.
It’s insane that this is the girl I used to watch Monty Python and 3
Stooges with at the tender age of 4. She used to sing along into the
“microphone” (aka my music stand) while I played bass guitar...she’s
loved Rob Zombie and Daft Punk since the age of 6. The kid is just
awesome. And now she’s all growned up and graduated. She looked
beautiful...and now her plans are to attend Drexel’s online program for
medical billing. Congrats Shell!
On Sunday we made our way back to Philly b/c we had tickets to the
last performance of Arden Theater’s THE SEAFARER The Seafarer is set in
Ireland during Christmas, and the reviews touted it as better than the
NYC performance. I really enjoyed the show. I had seen 2 of the actors
in previous plays (ORSON’S SHADOW & GLENGARRY GLENROSS/BUG) so it
was nice to see them in a different role and acted effortlessly.
Drinking and swearing as an good Irish tale, and funny to boot.
I made a split decision to stay in Philly for the night so we booked
a room at the Society Hill Hotel and headed to South St for dinner (@
Supper - yummy black truffle deviled eggs!) and drinks (Mannys),
rounding out the night with Brownie’s in Olde City and much megatouch.
Monday morning - panic attack - 1st one in ages - all related to
things I’d rather not talk about. Needless to say the tasks I perform
to pay the bills has become more irritating than normal. Hence all the
depressing tweets and insanity ridden ideas of Hari Kiri. I just don’t
understand or comprehend how to keep my head above water for much
longer. Maybe if I could just flip a switch and not care, things would
be easier. But I do care. So therefore I struggle and I stress.
Anyway...I’m about halfway through BUG, which is just as great as the movie / play i’ve viewed previously.
THE REAL HOUSEWIVES OF NEW JERSEY had its finale yesterday and it was insane! And obviously awesome.
TOP CHEF MASTERS is on right now and the “lost supper” themed dinner
they had to make was for the writers / creators of LOST so BKV was at
the table. He wasn’t introduced (surprise surprise! - after seeing
poor Mike Oeming not get a proper intro on THE APPRENTICE i wasn’t at
all surprised) and was decidedly silent as compared to the other
patrons. This show is proving pretty addictive with all the stars and
great cooking.
The Phillies are letting the Blue Jays kill them. TOmorrow is a
businesspersons special so I’m staying in Filthy methinks to chill with
Trey for a bit after work.
Shz finished the 2nd pass at the comic script tonight, now my turn again! Hurrah!
Raspberry Margarita from Longhorn - we will meet again!

Location: Philly Navy Yard Mood: viking poetry Music: GOOSE 'check'
This
was my 4th time in Toronto, the 2nd time Sean and I have been
together. So we have learned our way around a lot of the city which is
nice.
T.O. is awesome. Its super clean like you’re in Disneyland,
everyone is super nice. We stay at this hotel that is above a jazz bar
that is right on QUEEN ST WEST, which is like South St in Philly but a
million times cooler.
We got in on Thursday around noon and went to eat and shop for a bit
(really I just shopped and bought a pair of Capri pants and a new top);
then we napped until the late afternoon (we had to be up at 6am for our
flight) & met up with the “groom” and friend Jeff. He took us to
Smoke’s Poutinerie. POUTINE is the best food ever – it basically
consists of fries topped with cheese curd, gravy and bacon. We had a
variation of the basic that had peppercorn gravy and pulled pork. OH MY
GOD! So f’ing good. Sean and I both had smalls but we could’ve shared
and been plenty full. It was ridic.
We got tickets to STAR TREK but I think the Poutine put us in a coma b/c we were asleep by midnight and missed the movie.
Friday we shopped (I got a new t-shirt and new dress; Sean got a new
belt and a gift for his son), ate a lot (awesome creperie and
Canadian/French place called Nota Bene), drank a lot (2 bars called
Gorilla Monsoon & The Horse Shoe Café), and went to a sappy goth
club (Club Z- the party was called “happy music for Sad People”) that
p*ssed me off to no end b/c the dude didn’t know how to spin music, let
alone PICK music that people would want to dance too.
FOOD INFO for FRIDAY:
Mary’s Crepe: ham, swiss, egg and mayo with sweet onion aioli on the side
Sean’s Crepe: spinach, egg and feta w/above mentioned aioli on teh side
(this is also where we got it in our heads again that Cafe Mocha is the best thing ever)
Mary’s dinner app: tuna tartare
Sean’s dinner app: crispy duck salad
Mary’s dinner: suckling pig w/blood sausage tart which included truffles and some crispy wontons
Sean’s dinner: pasta and rabbit soffriti
Mary’s drink of choice: jameson & diet
Sean’s drink of choice: jameson & coke
Saturday was the wedding. The day started out dreary, rainy, but by
4pm it was cleared up save for crazy winds. They’re wedding was at 4:30
at City Hall, Toronto’s city hall looks like a space ship so that was
kinda cool. Jeff and Kiara had a great ceremony; I know Jeff through
comic book conventions so he’s a huge geek that is also ridiculously
funny. He dropped the ring (which is good luck so they say) when
putting it on Kiara’s finger but made a joke out of the whole thing.
Afterwards we had a dinner with the small wedding party at a pub-like
restaurant called THE DUKE. I was drinking “black velvets” – champagne
and Guinness.
We went back to Jeff and Kiara’s for the after-party
where I played DC VS MORTAL KOMBAT and STREET FIGHTER for an hour or so
but then we took our leave since we had a flight the next morning.
FOOD info for SATURDAY:
Mary and Sean’s dinner: Shephards Pie
Mary’s drink of choice: “Black Velvet” - guinness + champange
Sean’s drink of choice: Jameson & coke
Sunday we caught a cab with Kiara and Jeffwho were leaving for
their honeymoon the same hour we were catching our flight out so that
worked out. We got home and had late lunch @ TGI FRIDAYS and vegged
the rest of the day. It was a nice time for everyone. Of course we
forgot our camera so we only got pictures via Sean’s mobile phone.

On Tuesday I gave Sean rather vague instructions - get to Philly by 7pm. Go to a certain address and knock on the door to room 1008. Do not schedule any work too early the next morning.
I had booked us a hotel in Center City. We went out for pre-dinner drinks at Fergies, which was a nice start to the evening. The weather was a bit warm but totally walkable. At 8pm I walked us over to 10 ARTS, both the address and the namesake.
10 ARTS is this man's restaurant:
His name is Eric Ripert. He has appeared on TOP CHEF to name one television show. His restaurant LE BERNADIN is uber-well known in Manhattan for being totally boss. Shz has become recently quite enamored with French cooking so he was pretty psyched to be surprised with 10 ARTS!
I will say the aesthetics of the place left something to be desired. 10 ARTS in located in the hotel lobby of the Ritz Carlton. While the scope of the lobby is amazing FOR A LOBBY, i just felt like I was eating in a hotel lobby. And I didn't really dig that.
But the food more than made up for it. Here is what we had:
Apps:
Shz - wild boar prosciutto on toasted bread (the meat was so so so tender and tasty!)
Mbz - Pate En Croute - mini pork pies (these were like upper class pigs in the blanket) garnished with spicy mustard
Dinner:
Mbz - Striped Bass "grand mere", the fish was served in a stew-ish broth with pearl onions, fingerling potatoes and wild mushrooms
Shz - Rabbit Palliard (Sean <3's Rabbit!) served with baby arugula and sweet pea salad and whole grain mustard sauce.
Dessert (not ordered by provided by the house after I mentioned to the maitre'd that it was Sean's birthday):
Chocolate Peanut Tart with caramel - TO. DIE. FOR.
Drinks:
Pinot Grigio, Luisa was the brand I believe
===============================
After a wonderful dinner we took a walk over to McGlincheys and drank many Jameson and Cokes. We had a great time just talking and hanging out, this is something we used to do a lot more when we were still friends and not living in the same building. So it was nice to have a throwback evening. And it served in reminding me how f'ing much I love my boyfriend and how awesome we are together.
===============================
On Saturday was Part 2 of Sean's birthday week; we had a little gathering at the HOB in Bordentown. One of Sean's longest serving friends (Jason accompanied by the awesome Jessica) joined us as well as Robenna, The Quinns, Joey and Heather and the Boy of course! We had a nice time there and came back to McBrick for cake. Check out the photo album I just posted for pics from both nights. Shz got some awesome awesome gifts:
THE COMPLETE ROBUCHON and BURGER BAR cookbooks
AFRO SAMURAI RESURRECTION
THE WARPED ONE wall hanging
DUNKIN DONUTS gift card
RIKU laptop / messenger bag
Skull and Crossbones hand towels
(((If I'm blanking on any prezzies then Shz needs to remind me))).
We spend the rest of the evening shootin' the shiv with our pals and torturing the cat Flip Roswell with plastic bags and dart guns. Thanks to everyone who came out to join us!
===============================
I think both nights of celebration were utter successes. And it was so much fun!!! I can't wait to do it all over again next year. Happy Birthday to my love Shz McMazing!

Myspace is dead.
It is the supreme afterthought in my usual interweb activities.
I still change my status and update my picture, but i have declined any recent friend requests I have received.
I have no reason to shut this down at this point, but I also have very little reason to update either.
My blogs still go up here AND on Facebook...until I can find a way to get all of my myspace blog to another site safely then myspace will remain.
That is all. I'm watching Ted Allen test nightcaps on "food detectives"...i'm rooting for the brandy.

+ My "borderline" tooth (dentist told me last year it could either be a root canal or an extraction; I decided to wait a few months before getting it taken care of) became a completely rotted tooth with an exposed nerve last night. The pain was excruciating and took hold of the entire left side of my face up to my temple. I got into my dentist this morning (Eastern Dental sucks b/c they are widespread and not very personable but awesome b/c they're widespread and so I was able to find an open office) and got the tooth taken out. I feel about a million times better and have taken to recovering on teh couch.
+ My nose is suddenly totally stuffy and I don't know why. Are there any problems taking allergy meds with Tylenol 3?
+ While at the pharmacy to get my meds Shz got us dart guns to shoot at Flip Roswell. Flip doesn't get as offended by the darts as I was hoping he would.
+ We bought a wedding prezzie today for the Canadian wedding we're attending. I'm super excited about the present!!! It's so cute, plus I think maybe Shz and I might have an M.O. when it comes to presents now...but in a good way. =)
+ My column is going to go up soon I promise! I actually have all the content together, just need to get the layout going. It's been a tough couple weeks and I'm trying to get back into the swing of things, with the weather finally shaping up (fingers crossed) I'm hoping to reemerge with a new sense of restlessness and go-gettedness. <===not really a word
+ Yesterday my landlord FINALLY had someone come in and look at my semi-collapsed ceiling. He cleaned out the shiv that fell from the flooring above me (Shz's actually) and they supposedly sealed some wood that would block the rain from coming inside. Well last night / today was particularly rainy so it's leaking again. Not as bad, but still leaking. I'll be calling back the landlord on Monday...but hopefully this is the start of getting this taken care of.
+ The rest of the weekend is going to be spent with Shz (who is working off and on), Flip Roswell (who is cuddled next to me right now), Professor Trepan (the Phillies monkey / academic), Bravo reality TV (Real Housewives of New Jersey - like Glitter!) and Arrested Development S. 3 (again!). Happy Jesus Zombie Day kittlings!

Battlestar Galactica ended this past weekend and I wrote about it :

I also wrote a bit about the FLIGHT OF THE CONCHORDS finale. I'm kinda irritated I just found out that they are doing 2 shows in Philly in April and I had no bloody idea! -sigh- they're sadly sold out.
Tomorrow I have plans to see Kell and hang in Filthy for awhile. Saturday is "girls night" @ Trey's with a particular ROCK BAND theme.
Is it just me or does HELL'S KITCHEN just seem especially full of speds this season??

I didn't realize it was St Patricks Day until I got to work, perhaps via news clue on the way in. Besides making some awesome Shepherds Pie this weekend (with a greek slant of kasseri cheese, lamb and eggplant - courtesy of Shz with some grunt work by Mbz), we didn't celebrate. Maybe we should share a guinness before we go to bed.
NIN pre-sale was today for Camden. I scored HUGE with the seats next best to General Admission...Section 102 (center). Show is June 5th. Been "rumored" to me that it's the last NIN show. I am having troubles believing this but I do believe that Trent puts on the very best shows and I refuse to miss them EVER.
I have been getting all kinds of new music it's sick. CUT COPY discography, NERD (fill in teh blanks of what I needed), THE FAINT discography. Plus Shz put Arrested Development, SHOOT'EM UP, and THE LIFE AQUATIC on my pod so I've been rockin' that when I can as well.
We said we would be going to bed by now. But I feel like resisting.

Current mood:The Talented Mr. Ripley
We're watching THE TALENTED MR. RIPLEY after another awesome LOST eppy. Philip Seymour Hoffman is so funny in this movie.
We had dinner at OLIVER: A BISTRO. I had a warm bacon and blue cheese salad with white balsamic vinegarette, truffle and parmesan bruschetta, and filet mignon with sour cream and chive mashed potatoes and swiss chard. The bruschetta and the swiss chard were the stand-outs of the meal...but really everything was yummy. Sean had gumbo with andouille, plum braised beef dumplings, and rack of lamb with french cut string beans and goat cheese mashed potatoes. This was from their prix fixe menu - $35 for 4 courses.
In a little over 12 hours, Loretta will be landing in Philadelphia to begin her birthday weekend in Filthadelphia. This is the first time she's been back since she moved last year. I'm so psyched, Shz is so psyched, it should be a great weekend. We have a hockey game, an impromptu party @ Bass of Spades, and much debauchery planned. Lo is crashing at my place Thursday and Friday nights...and I've taken off Friday so we can maximize our time.
My ipod is about 20 gigs deep in music - got the Radiohead discography and some Smashing Pumpkins added today. Also got my claro plastic case and black skin. Yes, kinda bummed the skin is now hiding the engraving, but Brickthrower's Pod is now fully protected from my inevitable clumsiness.
I visited the 'rents last weekend...daddy made steaks and mommy bestowed some awesome Hawaii gifts to me. Shacky is starting to really feel nauseous from the pregnancy. No date for the wedding has been set still...so we're hoping that we don't miss it when we head to T.O. for Jeffy's wedding on the 9th.
In the same week in May, Fischerspooner will be gracing Philly with their much-touted stage show to promote their new album ENTERTAINMENT. I am a sped and got the date wrong for Gil Mantera's Party Dream (it's tomorrow, not tonight) BUT today Dirty Diamond posted a flyer online for his April 4th show at North Star Bar - so I have added that to the McBrick Google Calendar for safe-keeping. =) We'll already be in Filthy for the Phils / Rays game so it works out perfeckly!
McKitten is stiting in the office/dining room in the funniest position. He's such an adorable cat.
I watched EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH this past weekend - and wasn't too impressed with it. Dane was pretty entertaining in the film, so was my lady Jessica Simpson. But it was pretty predictable.
I keep meaning to read WATCHMEN again...as it seems that we won't be seeing the film until next weekend I will have time during the week to re-read it in preparation for the film. I am about 10 pages away from finishing NEW MOON. I guess I can say that the series is majority guilty pleasure but Stephanie Meyer or whatever the heck her name is is pretty darn good at writing a teenage girl.
Next week I will be going on my first business trip, traveling to Cincinnati with the suits to meet the suits of the main acct I handle. It's kind of daunting, kind of terribly exciting. We're only going overnight so it will be a quick and easy, hopefully. =)
Tomorrow is the final weigh-in for The Biggest Loser Contest. They are continuing the contest without teams, but I don't think I'm going on. I'm steadily losing but not at any insane pace. The exercise and calorie counting will continue. With my Wii Fit goal still in place - I'll have my own contest. And I'll win.
Sean got me the cutest one eyed Mankei Neko. It's maroon and adorable.
I anticipate a restful night's sleep tonight.
A great shopping site: www.kaboodle.com - the ultimate wish list site. Good Night y'all.

Current mood:Slithy Toves
The week has been busy.
On Tuesday Sean and I went to Filthy to have dinner with Trey and Evan (engaged now) and their friends Joe and Jerry. We went to WITCH BISTRO, for a $20 4 course meal. A great deal, and quite yummy indeed. While the choice wasn’t great, the food I picked was delightful. I had tomato bisque soup, clams & mussels casino, dinner course was steak, potatoes and spinach followed by dessert of choco mousse. We had a nice time and Sean got to finally sit down and talk to Trey who then gave him the nickname Crazytown. It fits. =)
Wednesday we made the trip back into Philly to have dinner and enjoy LOST with my old roomie Carey and her man Mike. That was delightful as well and we picked a great episode to watch with company. Carey made us lamb stew and we brought some dessert goodies from the coffee shop in B-town.
I synced my new ipod and all 2266 songs from my itunes are now occupying only about 1/8th the space of the new pod. I just bought a case for it today b/c it’s already getting some minute scratches on it, I simply can’t have that! The case I bought has a “kickstand” to allow it to sit up easel-like when I’ve got it at my desk. Convenient for watching shows too! Loretta already tipped me off to THE STATE being available on itunes for only 10 bucks! Gotta love that.
Speaking of Loretta, she will be here in a week! Visiting Philly for a long weekend, I’ve taken off next Friday so we can hang out properly. I’m so psyched!!!!!!
Tomorrow is a little happy hour thang hosted by a co-worker, I’m going there for about an hour then heading to my parents for the weekend. Can’t wait to relax with the family, put even more music on my pod, and get my V-day and ....Hawaii.... vacation goodies. ROCK!~
But I will miss my Shz more than I care to think about. In fact thinking about it today made me a little too sad to mention. Sunday when I return we will be making dinner for the Glass’ which is a nice prospect. Then on Monday we’re going to Philly yet again for a chef’s dinner @ FORK. And Wednesday we’ll be hitting up North Star Bar for Gil Mantera’s Party Dream.

Current mood:Meh.
I don't know what it is. I just find myself so irritated, frustrated, bitter and annoyed. Well I guess I do know what it is, who it (they) is (are)...but the question is "Why?" Disrespect and disregard runs rampant right now and I guess my tolerance level just hit its breaking point and has since shattered. So if I'm burrowing down in, it's for my own peace of mind. I'm fine sticking to Team Shz for awhile...he's pretty much the best thing ever anyway.
Anyway, we've had to postpone our Taiwan trip for business reasons - but that means we can probably take a trip to Toronto to see Jeffy get married. And Shack is planning to wed in May as well. Thinking about going to Reno and seeing my bro as well. So that's it...meh.

Current mood:batty
So we didn't hear from the drop ceiling crawler at all on Friday. Saturday was quiet as well. Sean and watched some decidedly "romantic" tv: TWILIGHT (got a bootleg) & LOST's eppy "The Constant." TWILIGHT was alright but I enjoyed the book more fo sho. We got all dolled up and headed into Philly. First we parked the car scoring yet another lovely spot on 4th st right off of Bainbridge. We were going to hit up Borders for the rest of the TWILIGHT series but the walk proved to far for how cold it was (I was wearing a skirt and knee socks) so we went to Las Vegas Lounge and had $4 cosmos. We picked up the PHILADELPHIA WEEKLY that my pal Dave Johnson graced the cover of (as the new PUNISHER series takes place in Filthy of something like that). After a few drinks, we headed back to South St and stopped in @ Manny Browns for a couple. A drunk old chick with a voice like a grizzled old man was gyrating and singing THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS right next to us. I averted eye contact as much as possible. We got to COQUETTE for dinner at exactly 9:30 (the time of our reservation) and were told they COULDN'T SEAT US YET, would we have a seat at the bar (there were no available seats). Oh, and it's CASH ONLY too. We waited for a few mins then made our exit. Eating at the bar @ The Latest Dish proved to be just the perfect gig b/c I got my fave wine, my fave appy in the city and it was just enough food to not stuff myself. The club was packed, we danced a lot, we stayed till the end. We got home and wanted to continue clubland so we put on the ipod and Tommie Sunshine and continue to get down... AND THEN WE HEARD IT. It was a definite screeching - coming in the general direction of my bedroom. I said "what was that?" and Sean, knowing my fear, my state (a bit tipsy) and all things considered simply said "What? You didn't hear anything." I chose to agree with him b/c it was much easier than freaking out. We went to bed and noticed that Flip was a bit more insistent on tryign to get into the bedroom that night, clawing at the door more than usual. But it was annoying more than anything else. The morning came and we had an interesting brekkie of Swedish meatballs and watched The 3 Stooges. Then there was a crash from the bedroom. It sounded like Flip has knocked something over. Sean went in and checked out, came back out and went to the kitchen, armed himself with a hammer and a coffee can, and went back into the bedroom. Ok, now I was concerned. I asked him what was up but he replied that he would tell me momentarily and shut the door behind him. He came out a few minutes later with the coffee can. "what is it?" I was crying at this point. "Do you really want to know?" "yes!" "A bat." he said very matter-of-factly and then left the house to go dipose of the creature. So apparently a wayward bat got stuck in the apt building, and has been in my bedroom since we first heard the scratching. He must've been fatigued from not eating, b/c on Saturday Flip was able to catch him and wound him. Sunday when he attempted to get the bat for a 2nd time, the bugger was latched to my window, just hanging there. Sean touched him with the hammer and he just fell to the ground. So he scooped him into the coffee can and dumped him in the trash downstairs, so if he could crawl away he had that option. We don't think he ever left the trash can. This is not my first run-in with bats, thus making the story hilarious to my mom and anyone who might know my bat history. I was about 17 or 19 when a bat got into my bedroom at my parents house in the middle of the night, the screams of me and my sister woke my dad who wrapped the creature in a pillowcase and let him go outside. a few years later when I lived with jake and ericka, we had the wonderful fortune of housing an entire bat colony in our attic, a pricey and time-consuming removal thus followed. And now, in Bordentown NJ, a bat gets in my apt and wreaks havoc on my frightened little soul. I find the decor in my house the most ironic - leftover from halloween - paper bats decorating the lampshades, plastic bats hanging from my kitchen light and front door. It's over...for now? :)

THE AGONY - last night we settled into bed to read. Randomly this sound starts emanating from my drop ceiling, and as it scritch-scratched from my closet, over the bed, towards the window. It sounded far to large and ambled a little too slowly to be a mouse. This is hard for me to even type: I THINK IT WAS A RAT!!! It sounded like it either climbed into the wall or ended up staying stock still but we didn't fear it after it's journey across my bedroom. I was terrified. I fell asleep on teh couch, then reluctantly went to bed when Shz coaxed me. I slept with the covers up over my head most of the night, sweating balls b/c of this. I remember fondly admiring my apt for not having any bug or rodent issues. Maybe it was just a fluke, just a random rodent that lost its way and ended up in my ceiling. Shz has offered to place traps, and if we hear the sound again tonight then i'm calling the landlord straight away. THE INTERESTING - my little sister Shacky is going to have a baby!!! She's only a few weeks along. Congrats to her and Andy! Also *think* we found much cheaper flights for Taipei - I'll be looking into that further tomorrow. Direct flights as well - although that does stamp out any hope of spending an hour or 2 in Tokyo. Very much looking forward to my day off tomorrow, i plan to exercise quite a bit b/c I've been slacking with that (although better with calories), although not looking forward of spending a day with Robbie Rat. Flip will protect me!!! HE BETTER!!! Also psyched for Saturday's dinner and dancing with my Shz.
