Dearest dearlings, it has been a while. If you aren't aware (though you should be), the most wonderful Frontier Ruckus is at last releasing their debut album THE ORION SONGBOOK on Quite Scientific Records. They are having their Ann Arbor/Ypsi release THIS SATURDAY NIGHT at the Elbow Room and they were kind enough to ask us, along with the brilliant birthday man Jim Roll, to play in celebration of this most beautiful event. Canada has not performed in quite some time, even longer as a full band, but we want you to know that Joseph is flying back from the Big Apple on the wings of a dozen Seraphs for this show. We hope you can join us in this Autumnal revelry and to purchase Ruckus' most stunning recording, The Orion Songbook! We hope to see you all there. FRONTIER RUCKUS presents the release of THE ORION SONGBOOK
Saturday October 11th 2008 The Elbow Room, Ypsilanti

Dear friends. We have much to discuss with thee. It's been a crazy couple of years here on the Canadian Front. We've had some of the most amazing times of our lives, touring, writing songs, playing shows, meeting people, laughing, crying, driving, dancing, singing, Lestering, sleeping and spooning. A lot of things have happened since we formed all those eons ago back in 2005 and new changes are taking place and we wanted to let you know about them. As some of you know, Joseph is taking a sabbatical to New York City for a year. This saddens us greatly as he has been an integral part of the band since day one, being ½ of the singing/songwriting duo that is Joseph and Steven, but we are also excited for him and wish him the best. Obviously, things will be different while he is gone. We wanted to let you know that we have two shows coming up that will be our last (local) shows with him for a long while. These shows will be your last chance to see the Canada you've come to know. We hope that you can come out and celebrate with us.
June 2nd 2008, Monday The Magic Stick Detroit, MI w/ Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra & Tra-La-La Band 8 PM * $12 * ALL AGES June 7th 2008, Saturday The Elbow Room Ypsilanti, MI Annie Palmers Bday! w/ Child Bite, Matt Jones and DJ MITN EFKT 9:30 PM * FREE * 18+ After these shows, we will be putting the FINAL finishing touches on our second album (we swear), Put Singing Birds Into Your Messy Hair, and will at some point have a release show shortly after with Joseph followed by a tour out to CMJ this October and hopefully another down to SXSW next March. In the interim, until Joe returns next year, we will be spending our time trying out new things and will occasionally be playing shows here and there with old and new friends in our ranks. It will be different, but it will be Canada, and it will be fun. Meanwhile, there are the side projects. As many of you know, Saul (a.k.a. Val Hundreds) has his mighty Champions of Breakfast that continues to slay and convert all in its path. I don't need to tell you how amazing they are. Joe will be continuing to play with That's Him! That's The Guy! out in NYC (if you guys missed their last Michigan show at the Elbow Room last weekend, shame on you. It was marvelous). Joe also has his solo project as Joseph Patrick Scott which you must indeed check out. Steven will be playing around town this summer with his new group Glistening Elks (which includes Canada members Amy and Aaron), so keep an eye out for them as well. And finally, thank you for listening to our songs and coming to our shows and buying our records and everything else. We love you immensely and hope to see you on June 2nd and 7th. We'll keep you up to date on the release of Put Singing Birds Into Your Messy Hair, but until then, be well, be safe and don't fall from the trees in your neighbor's yard.
With undying gratitude and love, The boys and girls of Canada

We are entirely thrilled and excited beyond words to welcome the incredible Frontier Ruckus to the Quite Scientific family! They are by far one of the best bands in our lovely state and it is a true honor to share a label with them. They are recording their first record that will be out once the snow has lifted. Please check out their website and myspace and keep an eye out for all that they do! Your life will be enriched because of it.
Happy Last Weeks of Winter!
The boys and girls of Canada
p.s. They are playing a couple shows in the Ann Arbor area this weekend. Go see them!

Lovliest loves, dearest dears. It has been an incredible year for our band Canada. Aside from playing our 150th show, we got to perform at SXSW for the first time, managed to survive a mind-blowingly wonderful two month national tour during the summer and were fortunate enough to share the stage with Cotton Jones and Chris Bathgate during CMJ in NYC. We also played with some AMAZING bands (see Gentleman Auction House, listenlisten, Jumbling Towers, The Good Neighbor Policy, Or The Whale etc) and made some good new friends in the process. So ok. Amazing year. Help us celebrate it by coming out to our VERY LAST SHOW of 2007 this Friday at The Blind Pig as the opening night of Mittenfest II. We are playing with Starling Electric, Lightning Love and The Decks. The show is helping to benefit 826michigan which, aside from being run by incredibly wonderful people, helps kids hone their most valuable asset, their CREATIVITY. How bad ass is that! Also, we will have a Live CD for sale at the show Friday. We played a show in the middle of our summer tour at this place called Off Broadway in St. Louis with Gentleman Auction House and Jumbling Towers. It was probably one of our top 3 favoritest shows of the tour. Anywho, we managed to somehow get a recording of the performance and will be selling it at the show this Friday for $5 if anyone is interested. We have the most fun playing together live, so we hope you check that shit out yo! So come hang with us, drink with us, celebrate the creative energies of the eight-dimensional universe with us! And then stick around for the rest of Mittenfest all weekend. It will be a very lovely way to put an end to 2007. Fact.

Dear Children of the Earth,
Our band Canada has news for thee. A fifth season is upon us. It looks a lot like Fall but feels a lot like Summer, if you can imagine such a thing. It is only during this season when we are graced with the reward of being able to speak with bird and beast, that trees will whip pearls down upon us from their orange leaves as we pass, that sun and moon become indistinguishable from one another, as one and other become undivided. Stars coalesce into coffee cups, coffee creeps down throats, throats release sounds of fifth seasons! We bring to you these truths and this news thus-wise.
Our second LP is finished and is filled with what we are, for your ears and your worlds. We are pleased as pigeons with it and cannot wait for the fates to remit it to you (March 2008).
Until then, we have this for you:
A video recording of our last day in the studio, featuring Steve Z the Squirrel hair done and owl donned, Puhpuh Saul singing on our new song Milk and Cupcake filming with precision truth, truly.
Enjoy and please know this: In this world we were born and grew to become who we are and soon our paths will cross in this city or that and we shall share the glow of song and the glint of tale and we shall be closer to one another in the void of all that surrounds us, we shall not be alone but shall be giants upon the plane of remission that folds us ever so closer together, for better or for worse, for our fates are intertwined, we'll bring the wine if you bring your shoes.
We love you and hope to share moments with you again so soon. Happy first of December and may the rest of this year bring you vital joys and glittering loves.

Canada just got back from 2 months on the road on their first ever US tour, and now has to deal with the ugly reality that a week before beginning their tour here in Michigan, band member Aaron Shaul's car was broken into and some of their gear was stolen (along with the car). Over the course of the past two months, the car was found and returned, though damaged. Their equipment, among which was a very new keyboard, a glockenspiel, an SWR Strawberry Blonde amp, and a melodica, however was not.
With the gracious kindness of local bands such as the Dardanelles, they were able to borrow instruments to tour, however they'd like to try and replace them as they go into the studio over the next few months to record their as yet untitled second album, to be released in the first half of 2008.
Tour has left their bank accounts nearly drained of anything resembling money. I think they saw some moths fly out the last time they used an ATM. Any sort of donation is appreciated - and can be sent via PayPal to canadasstuffgotjacked@gmail.com. Quite Scientific Records, their record label, will be taking care of keeping track of this for them.
Thanks so much, Canada and Team Qui-Sci

Hi. Thanks for stopping by today. It is raining furiously here in Michigan at the mo'. I'm sitting here in me bedroom with the porch door open and all sorts of rain and darkness and electricity are attacking the senses of most of the metro-Detroit area. I figured now would be a good time to update you on all the happenings.
First, our first national US tour starts in exactly 24 days. We'll be starting our tour in lovely Ypsilanti at The Elbow Room on June 8th with a bunch of bands on our record label (Chris Bathgate, The Dead Bodies and I Am A Bolt Of LIghtning) as well as a great band called Elm from Arm, whom you should come see. There will be free beer while it lasts. It shall be our very last Michigan show until the end of July. From there we shall be traveling slowly Westward for all of June and then spending July to the East.
Second, our split EP with Page France has been put on hiatus for the time being. A great and powerful warlock kidnapped our master copies and has thrown them through the Abyssal Door and, last we heard, are floating somewhere along the rim of Saturn. But fear not, on our tour we shall (hopefully) have a cassette EP available with six songs. Side A will be three brand new tracks never before released and Side B will be three of our favorite live tracks from the last year or so.
Third, we are well underway on our next LP and have about 12 brand new songs such as Brick Beetle Blues, Crimson Cookies and The Future Farm Is Now The Home Of The Cat's Crow (No Sense In Sleeping).
Stay tuned for further developments and announcements. Thanks for reading and for listening, as always.
Yours everlastingly, Steven of Canada

Thank you to everyone who braved the wintery April weather to join us at the DIA yesterday for all the crazy picture taking. It turned out better than we had ever hoped it would and it was so great to see you all....and a HUGE special thank you to Doug Coomb who took charge of the chaos and turned the day into a wonderfully strange and epic experience. Thank you a hundred times over.
Its so nice to know someone can have idea like this and that people will come out and support it. That fact alone is proof of how great this music scene can be, hopefully we can keep doing things like this to keep the world aware of what is going on here in our little corner of the world. It really is a true honor to be in this photograph amongst you all. Thanks again and see you all soon, at one point or another.

is finally taking place tomorrow on the steps in front of the DIA. We know it is supposed to snow, but its Michigan, right? So that's cool. Also, please try to plan on getting there a bit before three....we probably won't be taking the picture right at three, but we'd like to take it not long after so we don't all have to be standing out in the cold longer than necessary. Thank you all so much who have shown interest in this thing. It started out as a small idea and has become something truly bigger than we had ever thought it would be. Even if 10% of you show up, we'll have ourselves a lovely little photograph. If any of you have any questions or concerns feel free to give me a call, especially if you're running late and don't want to miss the clicking of camera lenses. Also, Great Lakes Myth Society, Pop Project and The Mighty Narwhale are all playing at the Lager House tomorrow night, so stick around and check them out as they are all super super good. Thanks again and see you all tomorrow. Steven of Canada 517.420.8297
