Lying on your bed stoic and cold like you on the operating table,
Of all the pain in the world, this one usually leaves you disabled,
Vitals may be stable, but emotionally you left in a shambles,
Everyday you question if you were a fool to decide to take that gamble,
All bets off however, always a 50 percent chance of survival,
Love’s sort of like a defibelator, always a chance for a revival,
While we fight thru the pain that anesthesia won’t block,
All the while feeling every cut, nip, tuck, praying the pain will stop,
You survive the procedure, but now left with the scars,
So now comes the road to recovery, and it’s just as hard,
Feeling the post trauma in every thought and movement,
In physical and emotional therapy showing signs of improvement,
Nagging pain re-occurring however, along with bad dreams,
Doctors prescribe Tylenol with codeine, but u opt to heal naturally,
Scared you might develop a dependency, so you decide to tough it out,
After everything you been thru, you learned the easiest way isn’t always the best route,
Weeks pass, u get better, but now you feel the side effects,
Anemic, you feel cold constantly, trust and happiness seem far fetched,
You look in the mirror, the image is familiar, looks like you,
Truth is at times, some scar tissue isn’t always the most visible,
One lonely night after another, you weep and reflect, toss and turn,
Mario and Usher songs making sense, How Do You Breathe, and you gotta Let It Burn,
All of a sudden, you reach clarity, you better than this, refuse to be a statistic,
Not gonna cry anymore, because you don’t need another to define your existence,
In comes acceptance and forgiveness, cause life’s too short to hold ill will,
Free at last from all the negativity, doubts and sadness you used to feel,
Especially now, your heart’s stronger than ever, and your no longer afraid to love,
Soft warm sensation back on your chest, and I’m not talking vapor rub, take it as a sign,
To get the hidden message, string together the first letter of each line:o)
