The Official BLIND MELON Blog

Good day to you all....

Given our convoluted recent history and taking into consideration all
the questions we've been receiving about our status, now seems like a
good time for a State of the Melon address. As we previously
mentioned, our New Year's Eve show in Detroit was the final show with
Travis. We're continuing our search to find a singer that fits the band.
If you know anybody who's great, have 'em send an mp3 to
blindmelonsinger@gmail.com. All future shows, including the tour in
Japan are being put on hold until we find a singer who can help us
move forward with a new record. We are all writing new songs now with
the anticipation of releasing a new album as soon as we can find a
piece to fit our puzzle. We'll let you know when things get
rolling........ThankYaKindly...

that is all.

Hey there,

We've read a bunch of the posts on here and everybody appreciates the support. It has been very helpful to us over the last few days. It means more than you know.....

It's time for us to move forward now. Any more time spent with anger and insult is wasted time. One of the things that the last two years has taught us all over again is that we love playing music together. The eleven previous years were spent healing and dealing, and we came back with an even stronger bond. Our dream, what this is really all about for us, is to have the chance to make something great. A great album. A great show. As we said before, we will endure just about anything for that.

So we're going to try to press forward immediately, and we want to find a singer to go with us. In our minds, Travis set the bar pretty high. And Shannon?....well that goes without saying. We're looking for somebody from outer space that has their feet on the ground. We're looking for somebody who has a voice that inspires new songs and sheds new light on our old songs. We're not looking for clones, drones, jokers, clowns, or drama queens. If you are interested or know somebody else who is, send an mp3 or video/audio link to blindmelonsinger@gmail.com. We'll check it out and get back to you if we think you might be a good fit for the band. Thank ya!

Hello Melonheads,

We regret to inform you that we will have to cancel the first 2
weeks of our tour that is due to start in San Francisco tomorrow,
October 21st. After the last run through Canada, Travis was having
problems with his voice which were not clearing up. Normally with a
few days rest he has been able to recover, but the problems persisted
and he went to see a voice specialist. The doctor ordered him to rest
his voice for 2 weeks or he would risk permanent damage. Unfortunately
this wipes out a portion of this tour, which we were all very excited
to do. We will resume the tour on November 6th at the Majestic Theatre
in Detroit. We apologize for the many inconveniences this will likely
cause, and we will either reschedule shows or refund all the tickets.
Information regarding this will be posted here soon. Here is a list of
the shows which will be cancelled:

Hello to you,

We're in Banff, Alberta...geez it's beautiful. "Brokeback Mountain" was filmed here. It would be a lovely place for you to have a gay cowboy encounter, if you are so inclined. Brad looked at me this morning and said "I can't quit you", and I just melted.

Anyway, the Canadian tour has been going very well. We sold out all the shows so far and the crowds have been fantastic. 2 security guards passed out onstage in Saskatoon. One of them fell and the other looked at me before he even hit the ground and said "He'll be OK". Less than a minute later he also passed out. I gambled for MANY hours in Calgary and walked out even, which was frustrating. I have a system and usually win, but I couldn't catch a good run on the cards. A lot of work for nothing....

We're looking forward to the US run in late October-November...I've attached the dates below that we have so far. There will likely be some additions, so stay in touch:

Oct 6..................Wild Bill's ........................Baniff, Alberta

Oct 8..................Rock City........................ Grande Prairie

Oct 10...............The Plaza Club............ Vancouver

Oct 21...............The Independent............ San Francisco, California

Oct 23...............Majestic Theatre............Ventura, California

Oct 29...............Meridian.............................Houston, Texas

Oct 30..............The Village..........................Little Rock, Arkansas

Oct 31..............George's Majestic Lounge.....Fayetteville, Arkansas

Nov 2...............Streeters................................Traverse City, Michigan

Nov 3...............The Vogue...........................Indianapolis, Indiana

Nov 4................The Machine Shop................Flint, Michigan

Nov 6................Majestic Theatre.............. .....Detroit, Michigan

Nov 7.................Pierre's................................Fort Wayne, Indiana

Nov 8.................Diesel.................................Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

One the bus yet again. We're on the way to see a guy known as Mancow. We'll be on his radio show this morning. We should all take a moment to reflect on how difficult it is for morning radio people. Up early like this every day and expected to be entertaining. If you catch the show, you may notice that we are not qualified to get up this early and be entertaining.
Tonight we are playing at the zoo in Chicago. We go on right after the clown who makes animal balloons and right before the puppet show. If you have time, check out the new baby panda bear. He's adorable.
We've got some new dates up here on the page.....canada, Europe, US. More are coming as they are confirmed. Look forward to seeing you........

Since our first show in early October of last year we have performed for anywhere between 30,000 to 45,000 of you. We greatly appreciate your growing support of the 2nd chapter of Blind Melon. We will play our 80th show today (Wednesday the 28th) in Lexington Kentucky. We plan to continue touring in support of our current album for quite some time.
Recently we have played a few festivals, some of which are either currently run by, or were founded by bands with whom we all familiar. Perhaps it is a bit premature to start selling tickets, but certainly not too early to at least entertain the question, why couldn't we have our own festival? We know a lot of really great bands, some you know, some you don't. We know people who own land, and flatbed trucks and folks who are not unfamiliar with the art of distributing hay across muddy areas. We know people who like to smoke and cook and drink and sell you food while doing both, (you can bring everything else you might need), and we will rent the port-o-johns.

Good idea? Maybe not...

Discuss amongst yourselves,

(Assignment: Paper due on aforementioned topic, 700 words single spaced, by Monday 6/1/08)

Class dismissed,

Hello Everybody,
I want to apologize for canceling the San Diego and San Luis Obispo show. We are all feeling better and back on tour. We will reschedule both shows as soon as we can fit it in. Last week we played a show at Camp Pendleton in front of 30 thousand Marines. We were on a bill that included ZZ top and Snoop dog. Both were amazing. It felt good to give back to the men and women who are protecting our asses. We also played a Music Cares benefit honoring Slash and Alice Cooper. Steven Tyler sang "Mama Kin" and "Whole Lotta Love" with Slash and Jerry Cantrell on guitars. It blew my fucking mind it was soo good. Chester Bennington also did a song with Slash. That guy can sing his ass off.
Last night we played The Metro in Chicago. The last time we played the Metro was with Shannon 13 years ago. I had one of those heavy moments onstage when I felt so grateful to be back in this band. You guys have been so good to us and I really want to thank you. I never in a million years thought I would get a chance to play these songs for you again. We should have some new dates up on the site any day. We are planning an east coast run around the end of June. Looking forward to seeing all of you. Thanks again, talk to ya soon.

Christopher Thorn

P.S.- 2 shows added for next week:
May 28 - The Dame, Lexington, Kentucky
May 29 - Monkey Bar, Huntington, West Virginia

This is for our Friends........
...a moment of reflection:

It's been a long time since we've felt this - the anticipation of the release of a new record. We feel many things...mostly GRATITUDE.... For all of you who have supported us over the years. For all of you who have come out to the shows. For all of you who have posted comments on our page here. For all of you who have downloaded our records and enjoyed them. For all of you who have disagreed with our decision to use the 'Blind Melon' name, as well as all of you who were cool with it. For all of you who wrote us letters telling us what the songs meant to you. For all of you who reminded us how important Shannon was to you. For all of you who tell us how much you love Travis. For all of you who made us laugh. For all of you who cried at our shows. For all of you who travelled to multiple shows. For all of you who got into fights at our shows (we hope you won!). For all of you who came from lands afar. For all of you who have picked us up and carried us through hard times. . . . . you minded the fire while we wandered out to gather more wood. This record is for you. This record is FOR MY FRIENDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi to you,

I am experiencing the perfect combination of exhaustion and caffeine, so I am capable of typing just about anything right now....

What are you wearing? Oh?....you always looked fantastic in that dress. Please sit in my lap......

Sorry...just zoning out for a moment.

Anyway, the record is coming out in a coupla weeks (4/22) and we’re getting all weirded out and excited about it. Got copies of the artwork the other day and it looked great (thanks to Geoff and all at thedecoderring.com).

The shows are stellar. It’s been a freaking privilage to play for all of you. Too many highlight shows to go into detail here. We just did our 50th show with Travis last night in Seattle to an enthusiastic crowd. Great to see old friends and drink pina coladas and get caught in the rain.

CONCERNING THE VIDEO FOR WISHING WELL:
That’s going to be premiered exclusively on Yahoo on Monday (thanks to the fine folks at yahoo for that!). Also, many thanks to Danny Clinch for making such an awesome video when all we had to offer him was a couple of good milking goats and a kick in the nuts. Clinch is a champ!!!!

We’re on the road now to Sacramento, then San Fran.....after that a coupla weeks off and then back at it in New Orleans. Still foaming at the mouth and chomping at the bit......

yours,

Rogers
