Current mood:  bouncy
Photobucket

The holidays are fast approaching, and my brain boggles at the idea of figuring out good gifts for everyone. My dad and stepmother are easy because, they enjoy going to the boats to gamble. But as thrifty as they are, they don't do so very often. Hubby and I will take a day to go eat at the fabulous Hollywood Casino buffet, and while there, I buy chips for gifts. You know, those poker chip thingies? (Obviously, I'm not a gambler.) That way, Dad and Ellie can gamble "free."

But what about everyone else? The youngest kids are easy because any toy excites them. I do love buying toys.

I found a super neat thing for my grandson's room. It's done as a space theme, with glow-in-the-dark removable star and planet stickers. Then at Walmart, I found a very inexpensive night light that projects a constellation on the ceiling. Very, very cool! He loves it. (I couldn't find an image of the thing anywhere - but you can pick up one at Walmart for under $10)

For the in-between people - well, I have some suggestions based on things I love, and I'm hoping you'll share some suggestions, too.

First, if we go expensive, I have to mention my desk chair. This one isn't exactly like mine, but it's close, and I forget where I got mine. Anyway, the arms are what make it special. For anyone who spends a lot of time at a desk, you'd love it! The "Wild arms" can be adjusted in six directions (up, down, forward, backwards, pivot left, pivot right.) Neat, huh? http://www.ivgstores.com/IVG2/N/ProductID-52955.htm

And while we're on comfort for desk people - the cold weather makes this next item super awesome! My son bought me the HoMEDICS FOOT MASSAGER one year, and I've used it ever since. It massages your feet while you're sitting there - cool for in the summer, but toasty warm heat for in the winter! One of my favorite gifts ever!

Cold weather plays havoc with me in so many ways. I detest being cold, but other than the occasional hot flash, at this time of year I'm always freezing. And that means static in my hair, and dry skin. My oh-so-lovely sister in law gifted me with some wonderful new products that now I can imagine living without! My favorite is the Arbonne Aromassentials Awaken Sea Salt Scrub.

The exfoliating action of this sea salt scrub — enhanced with the delicious smelling Awaken Essential Oil Blend — rids you of dead surface cells so your skin looks and feels oh-so-soft. Let me tell you - it really works! Talk about smooth skin. Any woman on your shopping list (but especially the more mature gals) will love this! http://jimmyreilly.myarbonne.com/arbonne/jimmyreilly.nsf/p1/1?OpenDocument
Also from the same company, Arbonne, I got the Shea Butter hand care duo. It's pretty enough that you can leave it sit out anywhere, and it smells heavenly.

For all those industry folk, it's so hard to know what to get. I'm sure every editor out there already has a million scarves, business card holders, and tote bags. Every year I end up asking other authors what they give, and we're all stumped. Sending flowers (which I always love!) wouldn't be practical because many of them take the subway home, and they're usually already loaded down with manuscripts to read at home.

I've decided that just about every woman everywhere likes chocolates, and if she doesn't, she can surely find someone who'll take them off her hands, right? So See's Candies is now my go-to for gifts.

The only time I like things to be cool is when I sleep. And a cool bed pillow is fantastic. Last year I discovered Iso cool bed pillws and they really do stay cooler. There's some type of technology involved where they don't absorb your bodyheat. You can buy them in lots of places, but I get mine from http://www.jcpenny.com/ when they have their buy 1, get 1 for a penny sale!

So now it's your turn. What suggestions do you have either for gifts that you received and loved, or gifts you gave that were well loved?
Any and every price range is good!
It can be practical or indulgent.

Because I'm an early shopper, I really look forward to your ideas!

Many of you know that Kate Duffy was my editor for years. I'm not going to say much now becuase it's still too difficult, but she passed away recently.
Borders is doing a tribute to her here:

If you read the comments, you'll see what a remarkable woman she was. The world isn't going to be the same without Kate Duffy in it.

Endless Love Virtual Tour

hosted by A Hopeful Romantic
October 4-17, 2009

Endless Love Virtual Tour

This virtual book tour is inspired by a little known holiday called
Sweetest Day. Sweetest Day is celebrated each year on the third Saturday of October. Although often thought of by many as a second Valentine’s Day, Sweetest Day is actually a day meant to celebrate all the people who make your life special. It’s an occasion to make someone happy, a chance to celebrate and give gifts to relatives, friends and associates.

Lori's particular part will be October 4: Lori Foster — Fairy Tale Romance.

A- grade movies:

The Perfect Get Away - My favorite mine. I LOVED this movie. Fantastic plot and acting. Very kick-butt and action packed.

Hangover - hilarious. Best comedy I've seen in a long time.

Gamer - awesome. Love Gerard Butler

All About Steve - Cute. Sandra Bullocks is always fun.

The Goods - cheesy humor, but I cracked up throughout.

The Ugly Truth - chic flick, but fun. Again... Gerard Butler!

Funny People - Adam Sandler is an incredible actor, and he does a fantastic job with this comedy/drama. I enjoyed it a lot.

B-grade movies:

Extract - quirky. Everyone cheating on everyone, but still enjoyable.

GI Joe - ya gotta know what to expect, and then it works.

G-Force - saw this with my grandson and we both enjoyed it. Cute stuff.

Aliens in the Attic - again, a grandson pick, and I enjoyed it through his eyes. When he laughs, grandma laughs!

The Informant - Hard to believe this is Matt Damon, the same actor who does the Bourne movies! Another quirky one.

Inglorious Bastards - it felt really disjointed and slow to me.

Julie& Julia - nice movie, nothing great, a little slow but the acting made it more than worthwile.

C-grade movies:

Halloween II - maybe even a D for this one. Sorry to say, it pretty much sucked. I usually LOVE Rob Zombie flicks, but it almost felt like he forced the role for his wife, and it just didn't work. It made it all too absurd.

Final Destination - even knowing it'd just be a cheesy horror flick to use as a distraction, it still bored me.

District 9 - mostly just gross. Nothing scary, nothing too suspenseful. Bleh.

D-grade movies:

Sorority Row - Yeah, I knew what it would be, but does it have to be THAT predictable? Same old cast, same old acting as in every goofy college horror flick. Shame.

F-grade movies:

White Out - whoever did the previews should have done the movie. It totally looked like a horror flick, when in fact it wasn't even suspenseful. Horribly acting, laughable situations. Just plain absurd and boring. Halfway through we were checking our watches and hoping it'd end.

Yup, obviously I've been seeing movies and not reading much. But when I read, I still plot, and my brain soooo needs a break from that when I'm doing a lot of writing - and I am. Writing a lot I mean.
Honest to God, sometimes it's very tiring.

Hugs to all!

Current mood:  busy
Hi everyone,

Well, I hadn't checked Myspace in a month I think. Bad, bad me. I spent much of the summer traveling and checking sites with my laptop is just a pain. Once I get that laptop open, I mostly want to write!
For anyone who had to wait for a reply or an approval for friendship, I'm so sorry. I promise to do better for the winter.

I hope to be updating with new covers soon, so stay posted.
They'll be for reissues out in 2010. I'm sure I've already added the next new single title cover, BACK IN BLACK. Awesome cover, right? Very sexy- which suits the book.

Don't forget that I'm also on Facebook (and I check it more often, because honestly, it's easier and faster) and twitter.

For Facebook, if you join up, please join the fan site. The other site will automatically shut down if I hit 5000 members and we don't want that to happen, so I'm trying to refer folks to the fan site.

Hope you all have a wonderful fall filled with friends and smiles and loving family.
Hugs,

Lori
