...and now, MARTYRS.

:INTERVIEW:

Did you grow up in Hampton Roads? If so, what cities? What high schools?

BUBS:Yes. I grew up in Norfolk. I attended Norview H.S.
and graduated from Granby.

Describe your music to someone who has never heard it.

BUBS: POW-WOW--ALL THE WAY! Liars/suicide-influenced drum-driven pow wow---i'm native american -so I guess it's in my blood. no-wave/pow-wow

jeff-dark, far out experimental stuff

What is your most crazy show story? (Any naked women running around? Drunk bar fights?)

BUBS: We've only been together for a few months; our second show was jan. 12th @ the Boot, in Norfolk.
We also did a show @ the shed (in Hampton) which was suprisingly well
for a first show; there weren't antics really-except my butt crack all night!(heh)

jeff-little sarah got food poisoning

How would you like to see the local music scene change? (venues, fans, other bands)How do you think we can solve the problems we are having with venues doing little to NO promoting of shows, not paying the bands much, lack of good sound systems, and other issues?

BUBS: Well, that's hampton roads.
I guess unless you're in some fucking bullshit jam band or buffet
cover band, you're bound to see a shitload of cash and promotion.
More people like yourselves would definitely help.

jeff-It'd be nice if there were more interesting acts around and some cooler venues to play.

What's up for the band in 2008? ( a tour, album?)

BUBS: We'll be doing small releases for little labels (tapes, etc.)
FLA records BLACK NOISE, and TEENAGE WHORE will be releasing our stuff.

jeff- play shows, put out some recordings. We're playing at the ambient pancakes event in charlottesville, virginia january 26th

What local bands and artists do you recommend?

BUBS:Head Molt, Hindu Pez, 1888, Shams, Caustic Castle, Insects with tits.

jeff-dirty tramps

What are your favorite venues to play at? How would you like to see the available venues to change when booking shows?
(better sound / lights/ pay/ promotions)

BUBS: These f***ers would rather pay dj's than someone performs the music themselves.

Who primarily writes the songs? Is there a certain process or does it come out during practice?

BUBS: great chemistry---we don't really "write" songs...
it just happens. I guess we write...movements

jeff- At this point the stuff isn't written, well some of the material is more written than other stuff. At our first show, the first 10 minutes we stuck to our set...then the set we had planned was pretty much out the window, and we improvised for about an hour. I'm more of a songwriter type, so i plan on writing a few tunes for us.

How do you market your music to the public? What seems to work best for you for letting people know about your shows?
(Myspace/ the paper / word of mouth)

BUBS: FRIENDS IN BANDS

jeff- we have a friend who makes fliers for us. Bubs contacted a few labels and they liked our stuff.

Finish these statements:

"You know you've made it when..."

BUBS: Someone you've never met before tells you that you're shit is awesome.

"It'll be time to pack up the gear for good when..."

BUBS: It's not fun anymore.

"I'll never forget the first time I..."

BUBS: saw sonic youth(if you know me--that shit is funny)

What came first, the music or the misery? Explain.

BUBS:with drugs comes grat music and oh so great misery.
i don't think i need to explain that any further.

jeff-yeah but a lot of even better music comes from sobriety, now to answer your question....i'm sure the music of the universe came before life existed to experience misery
