Biography
I sign ze art of mine by the name Mr. Haveldids and Nots.
The name spits on the sad exhibit of "haves" and holds hands with the "have-nots" who feel they have pretty much no chance in progressing.I also go by other names Ze Fleabag Molotov because it's fun and the birth given name Douglas. I recently graduated from the University of Oklahoma as a Criminology Magician and plan on studying Forensic Science somewhere in ze future of near. I'm very interested in science, but my main love in life is art and I'm hoping this degree will further my creativity.

I am one of the founders of a deviant art group based in Oklahoma called The Killer Next Door. We are a family of friends with similar goals and different opinionated outlooks on life. We are based in Oklahoma, but we are branched out through California, Oregon and Texas. Our minds are spoken through many visual and ear filled persuasions that hopefully tickle ze brain.

My paintings have to do with nature and other issues I consider sacred with the most respect. A lot of my paintings mainly come from wacko stories I create. I like to write with a paint brush. Huyok! Huyok! Whatever!
Sometimes, I get a little serious.... We, as Americans, are consumed with consumption and have moved away from nature in a very extreme way. This is a huge problem. We tend to focus on vital concerns such as wealth, gay rights, abortion, etc ...(all of which are very important to address)...but when something as sacred as the Earth is placed on the back burner, this is a huge ol' problem. We need to be more interconnected to life/nature/what is important…all of which is sacred to me. If ze friggin world dies...nothing else matters. Oh...and MC7C rules, be happy you have somebody taking the time to do this. (Thanks man- you rule too- k@t)

Interview

How long have you been creating? What got you started doing art?

Well, I know i started drawing at an early age. I didn't start painting until my best friend/co-originater of THE KND...Father Phil introduced me to it. This was around 2000...I have quite a bit of respect for the guy.

Describe your work to someone who has never seen it before.

Usually, I prefer the viewer to describe and interpret my paintings, drawings, etc. I do have my own interpretation, but my stories tend to always change. Sharing stories visually and vocally among friends is fundamental to human existence in ze eyes O' mine. My art is made up of different limbs of the psychotic mind. It tends to mock wars affect on nature and the human recollection, has more than 10 humor glands, and portrays the evolutionary changes within our polluted environment. Wooooohoo.

What do you find visually stimulating right now? Any local artists that we need to keep an eye on?

My friends and family are visually stimulating to me at the moment. I'm not really that familiar with local Virginia artists. Hopefully this will change soon. I'd love for everybody to check out the kids from The Killer Next Door though. They can be found at theknd.com or myspace.com/thekndband on the top friend's list.

What other artists or movements inform your work/aesthetics/sensibilities?

I've never really followed an artist/movement....not saying there is anything wrong with doing so. The KND, of which I've been a part of for 8 years, falls under my biggest and main influences.

If there were no financial limits whatsoever for you, what constraints would you most like to overstep?

I'd love to have my own personal studio/gallery. I had a studio in Oklahoma that I shared with numerous friends. Those were great times.

Did you grow up in Virginia? (If not, when / why did you move here?)

My Dad worked for the Airforce, so I've been all across ze American land. I have lived in Alaska, Florida, Hawaii, and many other places. I moved to VA due to the fact that I graduated with a bachelor's degree in Criminology from The University of Oklahoma. My family lives here, I'm doing ze job hunt, and ready experience new goofiness.

Do you do gallery shows?

I have done gallery shows in Oklahoma. My favorite place was The Electric Chair that I have showed in numerous times. check out myspace.com/theelectricchair

What's your favorite piece (at the moment)? Why?

Hmmm, personal or anothers work? My favorite personal work is Hurricane Angela. I'm digging a lot of
Hopskotch Sundays and Mark Whites work lately. Check'em out...they are on my top myspace list.

The business side of being an artist: how do you market/promote yourself, and does it work? How do you cope?

I usually make flyers to promote. Living in the bible belt of Oklahoma, most of the promotion I tried didn't work out very well. My genre of art wouldn't sell. I have tried advertising online as well and it didn't seem to work. So my strategy of self-promotion pretty much sucks. I'm learning though…hopefully. Ha.

Let's have some fun with word association. Give me your immediate feelings on the following

Theme Dance Nights- oh...my favorite is ze 80's...if new order, depeche mode, ze smiths etc. are involved I'm a happy fool

Tourists- ehh, they have every right to be what they are. We are all pretty much tourists when we get in the car...and we all tend to annoy without meaning to.

Granby Street- saw Kill Your Idols at some bar there quite a while back...with Bane...anybody know?

Portfolio Weekly- not familiar with it.

Dogs in Costumes / Purses- Sounds like lovely times

Best Venue for art shows- Electric Chair Art Gallery in OKC (no offense VA, just haven't been out much)

Best Kept Secret- my best friend is a stuffed Panda

Worst Celebrity- George Bush and ze gov.

Favorite Dive Bar- Don't have a favorite dive bar...usually any dive bar can kick ze ass around if your friends are invited.

What's the most played song on your iPod (or an equivalent music playing device) in the past week?

The Birthday Party – Guilt Parade

What came first, the art or the misery? Explain.

Well, misery probably trotted along first during the caveman/woman era. Some goofball invented art and this was the savior of tuning out misery. This new thing called Art was the fire that kept this misery off in the distance for a while…until rat like critics with worthless opinions came to town..just to piss on their happy day....then spears were created, I'm sure you know where the points were directed towards.

What's your guilty pleasure? (collect trains? obsessed with celebrity news? like the Spice Girls?)

80's music

What do you think of what MC7C does? How would you make it better? Have you been to any of our events?

I'm pretty much happy to get know these MC7C folks...they are doing some great positive things for this state. I don't think they get enough respect...they are doing something that is quite difficult. I know, because I've been attempting the same in Oklahoma...crazy ol' bible belt. Anyway, MC7C is wonderful. I've been to one event...art was great, didn't stay very long....didn't know anybody so, yeah..i sue me.
