So since my album came out last year, you may have wondered what I have been doing, why the world seems to have stopped still and what the purpose of life is. Unfortunately I can only answer the first question about what I've been up to since my last album. Well...writing a new one basically.
I took a break and went to America and met an "It" boy named Cisco Adler who invited me to his house for a party, his house was like a gangster's place in the 70's or 80's and I immediately felt at home(I've watched Goodfellas too many times)...then I saw the studio and realised the fate of us meeting. Did I also mention that Cisco's dad is the legendary producer and coolest man on earth Lou Adler!!! I ended up extending my trip and recording some bangers with Cisco who I soon discovered was not just an "It" boy, but actually a very talented producer and amazing person. I came home and played the label the tracks we'd done and they agreed I should go back and write some more with him......I wasn't going to complain!
But first I had to go to India to celebrate my grandmother's 70th birthday...in India, sitting on a deserted beach in sweltering heat I penned some more songs. A day after my Indian adventure I headed back to Cisco's in Malibu, CA and recorded a few more songs which were very exciting. I had found a new and exciting direction and it felt good!! Then I came back to London after spending the first 8 weeks of 2008 abroad, and invested in a keyboard and some studio equipment, I found I was writing songs every day so I thought a home studio would be an ideal way to keep things moving. Tommy Baxter (my guitarist) and I started co-producing demos of my new songs and before I knew it, I had another album's worth of material, however my equipment at home wouldn't suffice to do the songs justice, so again I jetted back off to Cisco's to recreate some of my demos to a higher standard.
Before I could head off though I had to celebrate my birthday which was an incredible night that I held not only for my birthday but also for an MS charity. I raised over 2 and a half grand and had an amazing night surrounded by my nearest and dearest, not to mention The Last Shadow Puppets performing my favourite songs from their album – making my birthday their first UK gig!!! I recently got back from Malibu again, this time managing to squeeze in a tiny bit of shopping and surfing between recording...yes I did say surfing...and headed straight to Glasto which obviously was lots of messy fun. 3 days after Glastonbury I was still recovering from a crazy couple of months…
For everyone reading this, I've kind of censored this blog and only put in the good parts, it's been a pretty tough year in this crazy world of music, luckily though I'm hard as nails...and in the words of Kanye West, "dat dat dat dat don't kill you will only make you stronger"!!
And for those who are not Kanye fans, I leave you with this...
Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.
