Category: Life

I was tagged by Tricia over a week ago on this and am just now getting around to it.  Obviously by looking at my blogs lately you see that I've been busy elsewhere and when I'm not busy I've been lazy.  So anyway here we go, 8 new things in my life, NOT some new things and some things I hope will happen soon...(that's cause several folks who have done this wrote about things they plan on doing this summer....well what will they write is new in the life 6 months from now cause they would have already written about that stuff?)  Like usual with me, perhaps I have over analyzed yes?

1. I went to Charleston, SC for the first time a couple of weeks ago.  Great city, great seafood, reminded me some of New Orleans.  I look forward to going back and taking the family for a family trip sometime soon.

2. Karaoke, I did it for the first time recently at Mikki's 40th birthday party.  Then I did it again....a few times at a bar in Charleston.  Sober (mostly) for all occasions.  You've created a monster!  I got the whole bar to sing with me, lots of fun.

3. I finally got High Definition.  I've had the HD TV for a while but a couple of months ago I upgraded to an HD satellite receiver and HD DVR.  It's awesome, I love it, and can't wait to watch NFL this season!  It also contributes to my next new thing...

4. NASCAR, I wouldn't exactly call me a fan, but now that I have HD I enjoy watching the races because they use the best cameras and it really is the best picture of any show on.  I'm hoping NFL is this good.  That HD Discovery show Planet Earth is really good too.  My son is REALLY into NASCAR so watching it with him gives us something to bond over, even though he's a Jeff Gordon fan and I root for Jimmy Johnson (just cause he drives the Lowe's car and I love shopping there).  They are on the same team, but I don't really get the team concept in NASCAR yet.

5. IPod, I use to knock IPod's, being a real tech geek I've always had gadgets that would play MP3's, usually an IPaq.  But a few months ago I gave up my IPaq for a Treo which is also my phone, but doesn't play music in stereo so not a very good MP3 player.  Then Vivian received the 30GB IPod from work which I immediately confiscated and now have it loaded with over 2700 songs.  Yea, I think I've blogged about this before.  What is considered "new" anyway?  I decided 2007, and stretched a couple of weeks with this one.

6. Reelfoot Lake, I went there for the first time last weekend.  I know many of my readers live in the north part of Shelby County or even Tipton County which means you're even closer to ReelFoot than I am.  Get away for a day and go up there.  Makes for a pleasant day with your spouse and/or family. They have several different boat cruises.  Check out their
site for schedule.

7. I am now studying for my next Microsoft Server 2003 test.  Passing this test will get me absolutely nothing except closer to getting my MCSA for Server 2003.  After the test I'm currently studying for, I'll only be one more test away.

8. I'm using my last item not to discuss what's new with me but to list what's new with my family.  Ian was accepted into Grahamwood's Optional School (the most academically selective school in MCS).  Vivian just got her first cell phone for Mother's Day.  Do you know how difficult it was for me to pick out a "low tech" phone?

I hope everyone else is doing well.  I suppose this is the part where I'm supposed to tag 8 folks.  I'm gonna try to find 8 folks who haven't already been tagged by others and that might actually respond.

1. Daniel
2. Mike (hmm I wonder what might be new?)
3. Stacie
4. Jackie
5. Audrey
6. Nae
7. Chris
8. Coley

I'm glad you're enjoying karaoke.  I have a special place in my heart for Reelfoot Lake.  We'd go there all throughout April and May when I was a kid.  We'd take several relatives, get some cabins, and catch hundreds of fish.  Did you eat at the restaurant by the spillway?  We should go sometime in the spring (next year perhaps), rent some Johnboats and go fishing.  I love to fish.  I never do it anymore though.

It's not the same Trish. There are now two or three restaurants by the lake (and this was 3 yrs ago - who knows now). Our old favorite burned while I was living up there but they rebuilt it - not as charming now. The spillway doesn't have the bridge to Warren's anymore - now you have to go down the road, turn right, drive thru a huge lot and then drive OVER the little bridge that used to be for pedestrians only. It is really wacked. The lake is still as beautiful as ever though and there are still plenty of cyprus knees for everyone. All this talk about Reelfoot makes me want to go back. I think I will plan to take a day off next fall when they have the big Arts and Crafts festival up there and go visit a bit.
