Creating this profile was the idea of some people at O'Reilly Media--hence, the URL: www.MySpace.com/oreillymedia. I have written several technology articles for the
OreillyNet.com web site, and I often post comments on the
Radar.Oreilly.com technology blog. People at O'Reilly contacted me about the possibility of making a MySpace profile with the goal of introducing technology to younger MySpace members. The idea sounded great to me!
So what's 'diyINcite' mean? Well, on the
About O'Reilly page, you see that one of O'Reilly's goals is to be "prime instigator of the DIY revolution" (DIY = "Do-It-Yourself"). My "word" diyINcite is intended to capture the spirit of this phrase. With this MySpace profile, our goal is to teach people how to "do it yourself" when it comes to topics we think many MySpace people will find to be interesting and fun, and, if you choose, challenging. So, diyINcite means "do it yourself insight"--I'll try to provide you with the knowledge, a clear perception, of important coding/programming techniques, that you'll need to be able to start "doing it yourself" when it comes to customizing your MySpace profile, and going beyond MySpace.
But, that word "instigator" is also there for O'Reilly. We want to get you moving on something we think is important, while it's also something we thing many of you will enjoy, but you may not have considered it in the past--that is, things like web design and programming, image editing technigues, animation and game programming using Flash, mashing MySpace information with other web data sources such as Google Maps to create unique web pages using Ajax. All of this is doable! We'd like to help "instigate" it--or, incite you into taking action, provoke you, rouse and encourage you! And we'll provide the insight (some of it, anyway) that will make this easier for you to accomplish.
So there you have it: the "Oreilly diyINcite" display name explained in full.
