SOUL POSITION

Ever since coming together as Soul Position in 2001, Columbus, OH natives Blueprint and RJD2 have had their hands full with more solo work and side projects than most MCs or producers could fathom. When not crafting instrumental masterworks like Dead Ringer, RJ can be found producing for MCs like Aceyalone or providing remixes for non-hip-hop acts like Massive Attack. Meanwhile Blueprint has recently made quite a name for himself as a MC/producer extraordinaire with the stellar album 1988 and continues to knock out tracks with his original crew, Greenhouse Effect and fellow Columbus rep Illogic. Yet, as two of the hardest working heads in hip-hop, this duo still manages to find time to unite as Soul Position and produce some of the most sought after beats and rhymes out today.

With the always spirited Print on the mic and RJ deftly manning the boards, this pair caught the underground by storm with their 6-song EP Unlimited in 2002. Only a year later they got heads listening a lot more closely with 2003s pensive full-length debut, Eight Million Stories.

As Blueprint expresses through Soul Positions new material, it was a long, sometimes uncertain road from when they recorded Eight Million Stories until now. But with the duo back in action, as their new albums title says, Things Go Better With RJ and Al. On this well-balanced release, Print delves into a greater variety of subject matter than ever, as he speaks on reshaping the Black identity in hip-hop and, on the lighter side, warns people not to waste his precious cell phone minutes. And as usual, RJ mines an abundance of funky samples for his partner in rhyme to enthusiastically rhyme over. On their new album, Soul Position dodges the dreaded sophomore jinx and delivers yet another gimmick-free release thats sure to be one of the most talked about records of 2006.

ONE BE LO

Born and raised in Pontiac, Michigan, Nahshid Sulaiman (OneBeLo) had always grown up listening to the likes of KRS-One & Ice Cube and has crafted his style as the emcees emcee. Combining mic skills with dramatic substance in his rhymes. OneBeLo sets the precedence for excellence with his first class rhyme style, exceptionally clear delivery, and commanding presence on the mic as well as on stage.

Longtime fans of OneBeLo (formerly known as OneManArmy) may remember the underground hiphop classic Masters of the Universe by his group Binary Star. After the group disbanded, OneBeLo began focusing on his solo career and established his own independent label called Subterraneous Records in January of 2000. With Subterraneous, he was able to bring a handful of Michigans elite producers and emcees and help create an underground force in what they first dubbed their home state Waterworld back in 1998. In just over a year towards the end of 2001 Subterraneous released Waterworld Too a compilation with Subterraneous roster and artists.

In the meantime, OneBeLo continued to work on his solo material in the studio with fellow beat maker Decompoze. Together the two had been composing tracks as the Trackezoids, the soundtrack to the Subterraneous movement since Binary Stars first release. In late 2002, OneBeLo decided to press limited copies of a collection of songs that were not initially intended for release. The project F.E.T.U.S. (For Everybody That Under Stands) is a group of songs giving fans something to listen to that would be a segway into OneBeLos solo material and has since proven to be a successful debut.

Beyond recording music and running a record label, OneBeLo has been a driving force in Michigans underground scene for years, performing at the Detroit Music Festival & Scribble Jam in Ohio for 3 years, as well as being the organizer and founder of the Waterworld Weekend Hiphop Festival. Beyond the Midwest, OneBeLo has planted seeds by going on national tours and is the official host of Brainstorm, the Emcee battle of the year that takes place annually in Seattle, WA. He has also performed at World renown events like Freestyle Session, Warped Tour, South by Southwest, Battle of the Year in Germany, as well as the the Bumbershoot festival in Seattle. He has shared the stage with many greats including KRS-One, Ghostface and Jurassic 5.

PROJECT MOVE

Veteran rappers Mike (Anonymous) Pruitt, Raheem Jamaal and Moe Pope show versatility as leaders of a new generation of conscious hip-hop.

Subject matter, tangible passion in the vocals, insanely dope beat; everything one could want in a hip-hop track is here. I can't speak for y'all, but I'm about to cop this record. -UndergroundHipHop.com (05)

Project Move evolved from the popular Boston group Electric Company, which featured the well-respected MC/producer Insight (Insight.fm) as well as guest DJ and rapper Edan (HumbleMagnificent.com) appearing at live performances. Electric supported their release Lifes A Struggle in 2004 (Sun Moon/Traffic Ent.,) performing with many big names in the hip-hop world including KRS-1 (on multiple occations,) Acrobatic and Mr. Lif to name a few. Electric is also featured on the commercially released live concert DVD Hip-Hop Peace and Unity Fest, sharing the stage with KRS-1, Big Daddy Kane, Skillz, Edo G, PMD F/ DJ Honda, and Pharoahe Monch; an event Project Move performed in 2005 as the local headliner, supporting artists including MC Lyte, Big Daddy Kane, Special Ed, and Edo G.

Moe Pope spent the late nineties in Oakland, CA with the highly influential hip-hop band Mission. Mission featured Moe along side of prolific MC, Raashan Morris, and a band that featured musicians from both California and the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston. Raashan and the band are currently touring and releasing records as the Crown City Rockers (Caroline dist.) Popular SF Bay producer Headnodic is also a featured member of Crown City and a favored producer of Project Move. -Both Woo and Butterfly Theory where produced by Headnodic.

Missions album ONE (Insiduous/Caroline dist.) set the tone for hip-hops underground in 2001 with singles like Disturbing Behavior and Contagious. Mission enjoyed success after the release of One with multiple West coast tours, a European tour, and a completely sold out 4 show Boston stay. The album art from Missions One and the single Contagious were placed into multiple scenes of the Hip-Hop love story/commercial box-office release, Brown Sugar. The artwork made it into the movie as Def Jam was in negotiation to buy out Missions contract from Insiduous (a sale that unfortunately did not go through.)

In addition to releases on Insiduous Urban Records, Mission had multiple releases on Om Records, one featuring a calloboration with the popular hip-hop group People Under the Stairs. Mission has been featured on many mix-tapes throughout the world including a recent Z-Trip release, Japanese, Brazilian, and French releases. In 2002 Moe came back to Boston and joined up with Raheem, Anonymous, and DJ Beyonder.

Innovative DJ/Producer/B-boy Beyonder (7L & Beyonder, Vinyl Thug Music - BrickRecords.com) lays the foundation for PM. Beyonder provides to the group proficient turntablism and acrobatic break-dancing, encapsulating all the elements in PMs performances. Project Move records in Bostons City Lights dance and record studio, the birthplace of many classic Boston tracks from Edan, 7L & Esoteric, Electric Co., and etc
City Lights is also a second home to the B-boy/B-girl crew, the Floorlords (Floorlords.com).

With a Dream team of producers at their side (Beyonder, Soul Supreme, Headnodic, Cinematic, and Endangered Species) the forth coming Love Gone Wrong/Butterfly Theory is a record for the masses, providing the listener with a deep test in intellectual thought as well as a journey through a jazz space odyssey. Project Move is following up their first single Woo (which reached the top of many National College radio charts) with a record single featuring the songs AM2PM and Thats How it Was this month with college radio promotion taking place in the beginning of the spring semester. The full-length album will be released in the U.S. this February and is currently available on Project Moves Japanese label, Miclife Recordings, www.MicLife.com,) and online at Amazon.com. Moe Pope and Mike Anonymous Pruitt are both also currently finishing their first solo releases.
