With the continuation of this unprecedented level of rainfall, I got to thinking about what the ultimate consequences may be for Dallas.  Below is my artistic impression of the Dallas topography in 2010.  Please note that it is not drawn to scale or with any regard for ground elevation, or indeed, any accuracy at all!  Enjoy.

Original concept and artwork by Fiona Ann Norton.  Online editing and technical assistance from David McCall.

Now, now Bob, you know you can't take any credit for this (apart from the small c symbol - I give you that!) Besides, I am relying on you to head up my litigation team if anyone does try to steal my idea.

BTW, I are you rained into your office, or something?

Ok, so where is all the dry land going to come from?

OK, Mr Surveyor, this is why I added the caveat about no accuracy in regard to elevations etc ;)

My god - this is brilliant, Fiona. And so uncanny. Mommy and I are in love, L-U-V, with your vision of the future! This will totally bring in loads of the long green for Big D, and just in time for the 2011 Super Bowl, too. Plus, Dallas won't have to worry about competing with Arlington, and sure, they might have to raise the new stadium off the ground a few more feet, what with the water levels and all, but ol' Park Cities Plexi Bubble-Lovin' Jerry won't mind a bit.

Say, Mommy wants to know if you remember that GMS guest panel - about six years ago, maybe - who were on talking about this proposed park area along the Trinity near downtown, and how once everything was all prettified, people could hike along the banks or enjoy a day of kayaking, white water rafting or sailing - all on that smelly-ass river, right? Well, Mommy's having to eat a little crow - because your deftly-rendered impression here certainly bodes well for them. They're probably doing rain dances as we speak.

And you know the Calatrava bridge people must be loving all this rain, too - because aesthetically, this will work much better.

The future has never looked brighter, even with the daily deluge. Fiona has seen the future!

Thank you, guys! I'm glad you got a giggle out of it.

Yes, I do remember that GMS panel. Was it really 6 years ago? Groan! Well, I had a close look at The Trinity River yesterday, and although it has swollen, I think it still has a long way to go before we can kayak on it, let alone before it turns into a lake.

And, I just want to say. I'm sorry to all those people for whom my impression of the future has, ermm, swamped their home with water. No malice intended!
