Who Gives Kudos:

Friday, October 03, 2008
We've just been informed that the Students for Barack Obama at Carnegie Mellon have had to cancel the Voter Registration Drive we were set to play at tomorrow due to last-minute campus security issues. Obviously, we were really looking forward to coming out to Pittsburgh and participating in the event and this last-minute news is unfortunate. Sorry to anyone who was planning on coming out to register and check out the show.

Monday, October 6th, is the last day to register to vote in for the general election in Pennsylvania. You can find more information here:

http://www.votespa.com/

Registration deadlines are fast-approaching in many states so make sure you're still on the books! I had an unpleasant and Kafkaesque (no, really!) experience during the primaries due to my failure to check on my status.

There's been some nonsense in this election regarding college students voting in Colorado and Virginia. Even if your parents claim you as a dependent you can still vote in the state where you go to school. The choice is yours! For example, you have the legal right to vote in either Boulder or back home on Long Island in the middle school gym where you got hit in the face with a dodge ball as a kid. JK, you were probably sick at dodge ball.

Anyway, we know that everyone will do the necessary research to determine which candidate will fight for the things they care about, but let's all keep reminding each other to vote! Voter turnout has been climbing higher and higher over the past three elections, but it is still down since 1960. If you like to be competitively patriotic, why not focus on getting our national turnout rate up? We're getting schooled by countries like Malta and Australia! Those places have voter turnout OVER 90%.

GOOD LUCK! SEE YOU SOON!

Great work fellas. It is however compulsary to vote here in oz, but that's neither here nor there. Take an interest in your own future I say. Young and old, get in there damn it.

you do realise us Australians have voter turnout over 90% because you get fined if you dont turn up and write something on those pieces of paper?
But goodluck on increasing voter turnout anyway. Voting is goodly.
