hola amigos long time no chat. I was clicking the keys latenight and thought I might just wax a little philosophy on the myspot page. The wifey is away shooting a film and I'm holding down the fort here in lala land. I'm pleased to report that my Harvard Westlake football team is 4-2. I am blessed to step on the gridiron every week with a great group of individuals that understand that the collective force is greater that any individual can ever be. A lot of people have asked me why I decided to start coaching. I've thought about it a lot because at first I would say "it's just something I've always wanted to do" but to be honest there are a lot of things I've always wanted to do. So as I dig deeper I've actually found that the truth is that it's something I've always been afraid to do. I was afraid of the time commitment. I was afraid that I would look stupid. I was afraid that the players wouldn't listen to my football advice, I was afraid that the advice that I gave wouldn't be very good. I've have many situations in my life where I've had an opportunity to extend my self and walked away for many of those reasons. And though coaching a football team is no great step for man kind I finding that it's a great step for me and that I'm not there to teach them they are there to teach me.

In other news, I would like to thank the person who wrote this article for the la times

I believe that you have recognized the seed level of my desire to build blahgirls.com for teenage girls. I don't believe that there are too many places that honestly depict teenage girls. They are underestimated at every turn and ten times more savy than anyone gives them credit for. If we are not honest about them, with them, and to them, and we don't deliver them the same truths that our media assets have been more than willing to serve up to teenage boys, we will continue to ensure a sexual divide for generations.
Sexual curiosity is not dirty, it's human!
Check out Blahgirls.com for more. Oh by the way if you become a fan of the katalyst facebook page I'm doing a bunch of video blogging. also I have a live qik feed at qik.com/ashton lot's of love ak

I was just thinking about you an wondering...hmm I wonder why he won't talk to me...and then I got really sad :(. But, NOW YOU TALKED!! yaya!!!:)

Don't worry about the commitment stuff. Throughout my life, I have learned that it isn't truly 'commitment' that people are afraid of, instead it is the threat of control and manipulation. And so, with that said, I think that it is the people that fear commitment who need to learn how to teach the 'contollers' to have more control over themselves, instead of having control over other people. There is a big difference between control and education.

You are an educator. You're a genius football coach! I saw you in the pics coaching, and I was totally impressed!!! Like woah!

And the blah gurls look great, they remind me of the early ages of the simpsons...and it seems like you're progressing to new heights.

I am absolutely in love with you and your work!!! Just don't vote!! ..ever again...LMAO!

That is awesome that you overcame your fear and are able to do "one" of many life long dreams. Too many people get crippled by that fear and don't take the risk. Kudos to you! Since you weren't thinking about the "I'm afraid's", you jumped in full gusto and in hindsight, saw your fears.

Good to know about blahgirls. I have a teenage daughter and I'll check out some episodes and let her see them. It's nice to know there is someone out there who is realizing what the media puts out there for teenage girls. :)

The first comment on this blog, I agree with. I too love that you and your wife are supporting Obama. If McCain wins, I'm leaving the country. Seriously. I do not think that I could go another 4 years in a country with a dumb ass. If McCain wins, that also means that over half of America is dumber than I thought. So, wow, this is a blog about you coaching a football team, and about sexual curiosity not being dirty, but being human. And here I am, talking politics! Ha.

So, I guess I'll quote the late, but great, Bill Hicks.

"When did sex become a bad thing?" he asks, wondering at the demonstration of pornography, "Did I miss a meeting? Here's what causes sexual thoughts: having a dick." His target, as was often the case, was the fundamentalist Christian right who, he noted, wanted to ban sexual thoughts but also wanted the population to be fruitful and multiply. "Seems like they'd be for promoting sexual thought, maybe put a centerfold in the Bible; Miss Deuteronomy! Turn offs: floods, locusts..."

And, this doesn't really have anything to do with this blog at all. But, I felt compelled to leave it for you anyway. Have a good day.

“The world is like a ride in an amusement park. And when you choose to go on it you think it's real because that's how powerful our minds are. And the ride goes up and down and round and round. It has thrills and chills and it's very brightly colored and it's very loud and it's fun, for a while. Some people have been on the ride for a long time and they begin to question: "Is this real, or is this just a ride?" And other people have remembered, and they come back to us, they say, "Hey, don't worry, don't be afraid, ever, because this is just a ride." And we kill those people. "What did he say? Shut him up! Shut him up! We have a lot invested in this ride! Shut him up! Look at my wife, kids, and my big bank account. This is real. This is happiness." We always kill those good guys trying to tell us that, and let the demons run around. But it's just a ride. It's just a ride and we can change it any time we want. It's only a choice. No effort, no work, no job, no savings and money, a choice, right now, between fear and love. The eyes of fear want you to put bigger locks on your door, buy guns, close yourself off. The eyes of love instead see all of us as one. Here's what we can do, right now, to change the world into a better ride. Take all of the money that we spend on weapons and defense each year, and instead spend it on feeding, clothing, and educating the poor of the world. Which it would many times over, not one human being excluded, and we can explore space. Both inner and outer, together, in peace.”

Everyone is giving high 5's for ur new job-- cool and I get that, but what everyone seems to be missing here is the BIGGER PIC, that this opportunity , not only lets u explore something new and fun for you, but that it seems to be a part of what may have lead you to do this Blah Girl site. A person can learn alot about this tween to teen age group, just by hangin with them and seeing them in action. Things are GREAT when they lead to things that r better , things that are mo betta, are things that make a difference!! Maybe this is what this coaching opp is for you. U give and U get--- U give more-- Thank you.

People that respond to this blog may not get the level of what u have developed. Yes, it is hilarious, especially if you live with a 13 year old girl. But for generations we have suppressed certain subjects... when a kid or teen feels like certain subjects are tabu, the curiosity and the sexual ideas can perpetuate in one's mind and that's what can be avoided by helping these girl face and understand these weird feelings rushing through their bodies.

THIS WILL make a difference in SOME GIRl's life.( which means some parent's life-- also ) girls might really see, how the things they treasure at 13 are just a fleeting thought and next year something better will come along, so the crying can stop 4 now! 8th grade is hell on earth because noone knows who they are or what they really want. They just know its "something" Rachel Zoe told them they had to have. The victim are the parents-- lol! JK, well not completely!

Junior High is the blind leading the blind--and parents are a huge embarrasement no matter how hard u can rock a pair of True Religons. Noone can tell them anything at this age. Nothing helps. Maybe Blah Girls will!! It is always good, no matter what the age, to laugh at yourself and understand the natural progression of growing into a young woman. Understanding it means facing it like we do other issues and taking it as it comes but not being scared are feeling filthy for being curious.

YOU my friend, have put your creative efforts into a project that girls need and can enjoy, and parents too!!! One day we will miss this "hell on earth" and we will laugh hard at all of this!! All girls want to be 20 today, instead of 13-- and the 9th graders older turn on the younger ones and so forth and so on. I tell my girls. It's ok. the joke is on the older cool ones now, but one day they want be so cool, they will wish they were just one year younger and guess what? they never will be! How quick the tide turns right after the years are gone we were begging to race through!
Kudos, Sir Ash--

Oh my Gosh! I went through the same thing! It was 2-3 yrs ago now but I had always wanted to coach soccer but was afraid to for all those same things that you have mentioned. Fearful and frightened as I was I did it anyway, I coached my daughter's 5 yr. old soccer team for AYSO. Super scared didn't know all the protocol and how and when etc. And there was this little guy short man's complex of a fellow whom I later found out was the coach the prior year, anyway he was my assistant coach and tried to undermine everything I did. He was anything but nice and gracious. And then throw the parents in the mix...Horrible experience, never again...But never say never right? I probably will :) The younger one wants to play now:). On a lighter note I did completely bond with the girls, they were adorable! And they totally looked up me and would always run up to me and give me a big hug! Oh by the way did I mention that "Little man" assistant coach is "that guy" that would make his kids cry on the field for yelling at them... uh yeah. And redemption is a beautiful thing because I later started playing indoor soccer in a Co-ed league at the Arena in Upland and I saw him and I was like I know that guy...Yeah we killed them every week for a year and they finally got relegated to a lower division! HA! YES! Redemption is SWEET!!!!!...Coaching is very rewarding.

Ashton, it does take a big man to admit that there are many lessons to learn in every walk of life. Coaching a football team must be an amazing feeling for you as I am sure it is for the kids. Keep up the good work. The more I hear of the things you do, the more I'm inspired to propose my resume and see if I have a place in Hollywood... maybe one day. So in closing I would like to say that every man (Not gender based, humna race) has many paths, many lessons, many trials and tribulations; if we all tried to live eachday "happily" then we have succeeded in learning what life has granted us as knowledge.

Allow fear to lead you. That fear feeling you get is your soul telling you where to go. Imagine you and fear are dancing on the ballroom floor of life. The more you fight against fear the uglier and more uncomfortable the dance becomes for you. Allow fear to lead you and the dance quickly becomes fun, exciting and elegant. You might of had a fear that you would look stupid on the dance floor. That fear is only an illusion. Once you you allow your fears to lead you, you realize that your movie that you created about what could go wrong was all an illusion. And that you were wrong. Running away from your fears will mess up the flow of life. Fear is the force pushing you forward. Don't resist it.

I always remember the quote from Tim Burton's Bat Man movie staring Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson. The joker asks, "Have you ever danced with the devil in the pale moon light?"

Hey, Ash, long time no see, apologies for not commenting as I usually do, had some of my own drama at work. Which is funny, since you mention about commitment, taking chances, and learning from others.

Mainly because you're willing taking a major step despite what MIGHT happen as opposed to what WILL happen, and observing the positive prospects of coaching a team and reaping the rewards. And you being sincerely appreciated for those efforts.

Once again, apologies if I sound a bit Freudian or Dr. Joyce here, but as of late, listening to your world does give me hope in the most dire of situations I've found myself.

Last week, my district manager decided to insensitively drop the hammer on my former manager while I was working at the store. The problem here was my manager has been going through personal problems, and me and my co-worker have been there for him, as well as the customers while being committed to our jobs as well. Regrettably our DM did not share these views and decided on harshly punishing him, ignoring our efforts in keeping our store running smoothly, and now we're under someone we can't really stand.

Yet, because I'm the oldest there, I've got to remain somewhat professional and act as if nothing occurred.

I'd get more into it, but the purpose of this comment here is not to bum you out with my difficulties. But I did want you to know when I do read about your blogs they do make me feel better and realize in this world of Daleks and Cybermen we're transforming ourselves into, there are still humans who give us a shred of hope for our future.

Getting off this soapbox, let's switch tracks on this trolley.

Actually, I do love Blahgirls.com (okay, the episodes), because not only is it humorous on many levels, as you indicated, Blahgirls.com to teenage girls is what Peanuts was once for young people in general.

It's strange how nowadays we don't depict honesty with our young people, and not just teenage girls. Instead we rather give them an outrageous deceptive image of how we perceive what the idea person in general should be. Thus, we wind up giving them unrealistic goals for them to achieve, when we should be giving them assurance they need of just being themselves.

I believe this is why many young teens are confused and frustrated these days because you rarely see anything out there honestly depict the teenage scene anymore.

Once again, Ash, major kudos on you coaching the Harvard Westlake football team, and I'm glad they're doing great. And I wish you the best.
