well, the new itunes commercial has a new coldplay song on it. people kept telling me "shit, andrew, it's your fuckin song!" so i checked it out.

here's a song that i wrote in the first half of 2006 that we've been playing a lot all year. the recording of it is almost done. it's (ironically?) titled "the songs i didn't write"

one thing that's kind of funny is i feel like if creaky boards ever did get to make a big budget video of this song, it probably would have looked a lot like the coldplay one. the blank spaceage landscape, the dark blues and purples, the transcendant explosions of light at the climatic parts of the song...

i was more annoyed until darwin reminded me that i too, had copied the music. i ripped off the fairy music from zelda.

Currently listening:
Viva La Vida

I think I'm gonna change the title of my upcoming record to "Ocarina of Time".
I got a groovy calendar of old 20's blues record covers that a client of mine wanted me to use as inspiration for a design, and right at the top of it, there was a quote at the top, saying, "I've lifted my style from these covers, like I always say, 'Steal from the Best!'- R. Crumb"

That's why "Ocarina of Time" is oh never mind, I'm bored of that joke.

stop whining. anyone could have come up with that tune. just because coldplay is doing great with their song, you dont have to complain about them stealing it from you. suck it up, move on, and write another song.

So I think everyone I know has now done a comparison and, well, it sounds like Coldplay ripped off your melody. At least you've gotten some publicity from it and more people are now aware of your music. Good luck in your future endeavors.

Whoa-

Cold played.

Your original version sounds much better. I get this weird U2 feeling when listing to the coldplay rip. F'in hacks.

I gotta say that when I heard about this on the radio, I was stunned.
The similarities in your songs are pretty close together.
It seems like it's just the chord progression that's the same to me, not really the melody of the song. And that happens to a lot of bands, just not this close together.
Take this for example; The Offspring just released a new song called "Hammerhead" and the style, as well as the chord progressions, match up damn close to Motorheads "Ace of Spades".
In terms of creativity, both songs are great. But in terms of plagiarism, I think everything has been done.
Keep up the good music, guys.

If no one had ever used the same melody as another song there wouldn't be a "dani california" or "are you gonna be my girl." So suck it up, because they made the song better! Quit complaining over some similar notes! We are getting to a point were there is so many melodies out there that it is hard enough not to copy another. Pretty soon we are just gonna be listening to nails on a chalkboard cause that will be the only new origional thing to listen to.

Ok.

ONE.
The songs are in two completely different keys.
If you had any sense of musical knowlege you'd be able to tell that.
TWO.
The melodies might be slightly similar at maybe one or two places,
but nothing anywhere remotely close enough to think they ripped you guys off.
More importantly enough to sue them!!

Now.
Listen to colplay.
And then listen to you guys.
There is a REASON their song is bigger than yours.

And I'm sure Chris Martin came to america
JUST to rip off a little local band's song.

Come on.
Think logically.

Coldplay owns yo' face.

I've heard both songs and I've figured it out.
You found a song that is kind of like yours and so you thought "Hey, This is a great opportunity to get our faces known! We can make people think that talented people are copying our crappy song!"
Well Bravo.

I would almost believe you losers if you didn't make shitty ass music. The resemblance is only at the first 4 seconds of your song and its pretty vague at that. Even if Chris Martin did for whatever reason decide to show up at a random bar in New York and steal extremely small sections of a failure of a song from an embarrassingly crappy band like yours (WHICH IS FUCKING IMPOSSIBLE), Coldplay would deserve the credit anyway, for turning a 0.5/10 song into an 8.7/10 known as "Viva la Vida". I will however give you credit for making it into mainstream news media for bullshit claims. Well done, your famous, but not for making great music that will never happen.

You cannot call plagarism on them because the have the same rhythms. They might have one chord in common. They'd only be stealing if it was the same notes and such.

In My Spare Time...

I had that Link game when I was a kid, too. Strangely enough, I've never written anything that sounds like either of these two songs. They both sound good to me though, and as others have said soundalike melodies are not that uncommon. When I first heard Green Day's Give Me Novacaine, I realized I'd used the same chords for a song...but so have a lot of other people, I'm sure.

It's funny people are all up in a storm about this.
Obviously he made this video because the songs sounded familiar, and he wanted to let his *current* fans know he had written it first, rather than it being a ripoff of a lameass coldplay song.
People found it on the net, took it out of context (a joke), and Creaky Boards are getting huge publicity because of it.
Anyway, grats guys. Hope this works out for you.

theres your answer idiot. u stole a video game song. coldplay kicks ass. ur song sucks. and all u homos prancing about on stage does not rectify the situation. check your player -- YOUR SHIT SONG HAS MORE PLAYS THAN THE REST OF YOUR SHIT SONGS BCUZ OF UR PUBLICITY STUNT. jackass. your copy of martins vocals are shitty. lord knows u stole the zelda music and slapped coldplay/s singing to ur crappy version. if anything, u could at least admit u heard coldplays song and didnt kno it, and in the back of your head u remembered the vocals as u wrote your shitty "song u didnt write."

no one else is going to laugh at u if u quit while ur ahead. u got ur cult of followers, now give up before u lose it all.

Ouch, you're singing voice is painful.

So why would Coldplay just rip off your song knowing you'd cause a stir out of it? THINK. It's a coincidence, even though the songs have no resemblance. Quit whining.
