hello friends. off to prague next week to do some writing.

been writing quite a bit. don't believe any of the hype of anything you've heard about future projects. i am about to commit to something and i'll let you all know what it is when it happens.

dvd... i saw that terrible art and i worked hard to get it changed. the studio wouldn't hire dan and jeremy, my vfx team, to do it but i got them to use the art from the international campaign which is pretty nice.

it's a very stripped down dvd and i do hope at some point to make a definitive collector's edition but that will be in a few years.

otherwise nyc is gray and sad. i can't wait for spring to fully arrive. any moment now, we are all being teased.

anyone have any recommendations for good food, good shops, good flea marketing in prague?

best,
dsa

I loved The Fountain so much I would have bought it no matter what the cover looked like, but that photo was a disappointment.

I hope you release a definitive one later on. That would be amazing.

Good luck in Prague.

Wish I had some recommendations, but being that I've never been to Prague, I don't. Have fun though. Hope the writing goes well and you dish out something awesome. Take it easy. PEACE!

Why the hell is the studio doing shit like this? How hard is it for them to understand you know your business better than anyone else? You're business is the people who invest in your vision and the studio wants to compromise that over a few grand?

Can't wait to hear what the new project is. I read safelight when i heard you were making it. It's a tough novel and very powerful but I was hoping you'd choose something else along the lines of the fountain or PI. Something "divine" so to speak.

Have fun in Prague.

BTW, how did you like 300?

Underground President the Movie

Hey Darren,

I spent close to a week in Prague this past summer.  It was amazing, and everything there is ridiculously cheap, not to mention they've got some pretty intense absinthe (the best I had throughout Europe).

The food there is great in general, very hearty meals and as I said before, insanely cheap.

I'll have to talk with my friends to see if they remember any of the specific restaurants we visited, but you should definitely check out this massive ornate clock in the main square (you'll know it when you see it) and there are at least a few bars that are housed in underground caves (very cool, and extremely unique).

I'll get back to you soon about the restaurants.  Otherwise, have a great time in Prague, man!

Hello, Mr. Aronofsky!..:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

At last your new film has reached us. On behalf of all Russian spectators I wish to express you the sincere gratitude. In my opinion if the modern cinema will be considered by the subsequent generations as high art, first of all, it will be a question of "The Fountain" of Darren Aronofsky. Criticism, awards will not have value then as have no it now for such usual spectators as I. And if "Requiem" shocks even after the tenth viewing "The Fountain" bears something greater in itself. It bears love and creation despite of everything. After viewing it would be desirable to think, discuss seen and to change to some very important things. It also refers to as true cinema. Thanks you for it. And if it to be necessary for you more than 6 years for creation of your following film we shall wait for only it is meaningful.

Yours faithfully, Ilya from ..:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Russia.

Forgive for my English

Dear Mr. Aronofsky, I can't believe my eyes! My favourite director, creative genius, will come to my HOME-TOWN. Yes, I am from the Czech Republic, from the beautiful capital city Prague. (Of course that's why my English isn't perfect, I apologize for that.) World is really crazy and small place. :-)

Your wrote: "nyc is gray and sad", but in Prague there is very nice weather now, we're enjoying sunny, almost-summer days:

Recommendations for Prague? It's a little bit difficult. It depends on what you wanna see. Every tourist goes to the Prague Castle etc., but there are also less crowded monuments and places. For writing I can recommend - for example - Prague botanic gardens (2nd photo), in work-days calm and inspirative place. :-) If you prefer writing with some good food&drink, there are also two possibilities: In city centre, there are "global-and-without-style" shops and restaurants (of course, e.g. McDonald's is on almost every street). Smaller, style cafeterias, old-books shops, etc. are little bit hidden, but it's easy to find them and have a good feeling from Prague: don't walk by the crowded tourist lines, feel free to explore old and beatiful Prague by yourself.

If you have any question, e-mail me ( pavelfrcka@seznam.cz ), it will be honour for me to answer you. I hope that you will feel good in Prague, it's one of the most beautiful cities in the world. :-)

If you are interested in some facts about you work: The Fountain had premiere in the Czech Republic in March (I don't know why so late, usually movies are presented here very soon after the US premiere), so movie-fans are full of impressions from your masterpiece. We are looking for late summer, when the DVD is going to be released. And about your previous movie, Requiem for a Dream: it's very often presented in small, club cinemas.

Hi, Mr. Aronofsky. I'm a big fan of your films. Thank you for your works, you're the greatest!
"The Fountain" is such a brilliant movie, that I won't even try to explain my delight. I also took a lot of my friends watch it, to initiate' em & make some more Box Office in Russia:)
So, I wanna ask: is it possible to watch "Protozoa" or "Supermarket Sweep" or "Fortune Cookie"? Maybe it's available for downloading or buying or smth.
And: The Fountain DVD in Russia contains (surprise!) some photogallery. Even no english language! Just russian. It's terrible! Maybe there are som features to download, like "the movie about movie", or how you name it.
Thank you.
As I see, you traveling Europe: Prague, Belgrade... Don't you wanna visit Saint-Petersburg, my home city, the culture capital of Russia? Oh, it's such a beautiful town, you'll like it. To walk the roofs in the center, watch the sun that is awesome!

Dear Mr. Aronofsky,

First of all let me express you my admiration for your work. With Mr. Park Chan-wook U R my favorite director, cause the way of your thinking or better said, the way how U put your thoughts into movies through series of images binded by music is 4 me always not only inspirating but somehow synchronized with my own inner feelings.

I am from Bratislava - capital city of Slovakia, which is a small country in the heart of Europe - next to Czech republic. Perhaps, if your travelling throughout middle Europe is still active, you can visit also my hometown. There are some place which are worth to see it. For futher information, you can anytime mail me at adrian.ziska@pobox.sk or roman.adrian@yahoo.com .

By this way I am also double the question from Vladimir. Is there a possibility to obtain (buy or other way???) your early works (Supermarket sweep, Protozoa)?

Finally, best wishes with your writing and I am looking forward your next project(s). Maybe even one day it will be a long-time before announced adaptation of book called Flicker written by Theodore Roszak, which is one of my favourite.
