ALF activist Donald Currie (40) was yesterday sentenced to 12 years in prison at Reading Crown Court for his involvement in the global campaign against Huntingdon Life Sciences. He was additionally given life on licence so to restrict his efforts for animals after his release. The police had wanted a life sentence in prison.

Public Statement on Behalf of Donald Currie
(Reading Crown Court 7-12-06)

"Thousands of vulnerable UK citizens and millions of animals die every year at the behest of fraudulent medical research, whilst Government officials, drug companies and the media scream horror at the damage done to inanimate objects. This is shameful.

Donald Currie is an inspiration to many. He is a doting father of three children, an animal rescue worker and a volunteer for a mental health charity. He has now become a victim of today..s political deceit and corporate greed. He is just the tip of an increasingly determined and powerful movement, which is honing in on and will overcome the lies and the violence of the crumbling vivisection industry.

Far from deterring further meaningful opposition to animal testing, the politically motivated sentencing of Donald Currie will only serve to make matters worse.

Further comment is unnecessary as words are futile but actions are everything."

while the rest of humanity thinks it OK to kill, wear, eat, and generally use non-humans as articles simply for the use of humans, we will never be free of this injustice.  I've tried education, for what it's worth.  Not much luck there!  Love is Liberation, but it seems to me that most people need to be liberated from their mantra that 'animals were put on earth for our use'.  I might even begin to love them then!

I am horrified with this sentence. Is there any hope to change it?

Just another example of the biased legal system in this country.  Reminds me of the sentence handed to the SNGP guys - 12 years for "conspiracy to blackmail".  The media ensured that the public were horrified at the desecration of a grave, and it was obviously the work of the "extremists".  Meanwhile, paedophiles, murderers and rapists are given such lenient sentences - what about the desecration of the living?  The world has gone totally mad, and I fear for the future of any citizen who dares to speak out or oppose the madness of vivisection.  Not only do I feel for Donald, I feel for his wife and children, especially at this time of year.  I hope there's an appeal resulting in a "sensible" sentence.  Meanwhile, he has the support and thoughts of every sane person who opposes cruelty, both to humans and animals.

"Donald Currie is an inspiration to many. He is a doting father of three children, an animal rescue worker and a volunteer for a mental health charity."  There are people out there that are stealing, murdering, raping, and THIS guy gets put in jail.

"Further comment is unnecessary as words are futile but actions are everything."   Beautiful!

We live4 in an environmentally aware age, where environmental and animal protection is necessary, and CRIMES AGAINST NATURE exist...

I often dream that I can win the lottery, to support environmental/animal rights action.  I have often dreamed that I will be able to buy wild life rangers, vehicles and amunition, so as they can effectively defend wild life against poachers. I hear that many of them are fighting the opposition with sticks, and on foot. If I could, I would buy amunition for every-one who is trying to protect the environment and animals from human pressure.

However I am not a lottery winner, and so can only do what I can.  I look after a little parrot no one wanted, as she plucks her feathers.  I have saved countless trees by cutting tree straps, (shhh.) so thus sparing them an agonising death, via strangulation.  I energy save, recycle, letter write, and make no mistake, I will be contacting our hero Donald Currie.  I walk every where, have never learned to drive, and most importantly, I have opted not to breed.  I have ambushed a plutonium convoy, obstucted the highway, tresspassed on diplomatic premises.  (Shut up ya fool!)  Good luck to all who love their country, for there country is the land, and all of it's inhabitants.  Good luck to you all, and thank you very much for careing.  I'm off now, I'm giving my deceaced fathers computer to an animal rights x con.  Chow for now!
