Stage 3 colon cancer. Laparoscopic surgery to remove it. 6 months of chemo ahead of us. You know what she tells me?
She says she'd rather be going through all this than a divorce with me!
Just to let me know how good of a job I'm doing as a husband. She's so awesome!
I've always said this, but- what an amazing wife!
The incredible strength we have as a team provides us with great power to cope with great and unpleasant times. Our love for life is filled with wonderful memories and an unstoppable desire to have many more. We are grateful for our past and our future, so we'll do what we have to today to keep us healthy for tomorrow.
As you know, this is all new to us. What should we expect from the chemo treatments? I've heard of people getting treatments in the morning and going straight to work. I've also heard of it wearing people down. I understand they've come a long way in recent years, but what should we expect? Is traveling in between rounds an option? I'm asking you.
Sonya and I probably won't know much more about what we'll be going through until June, so we'll keep you posted, as always.
We appreciate the support coming in-from prayers to cards to even running in her name T.?
You fans rock. Enjoy life. It's there for you.

rob & sonya, the two of you are an inspiration, both to couples living (AND DEFEATING) cancer, and to couples in general. in this day and age, it's encouraging to see not just a "wrestling" marriage thriving the way we see with the two of you, but love in general deepening as it endures. we're all still behind the both of you all the way. love and faith to you in your battle!

Well, I have not personally had cancer. However, I have had a friend who has been through breast cancer and bone cancer. She has been fighting for about 4 years now. When she went through radiation, she lost all of her hair- even her eye lashes. As for chemo, she found that she has had to work with her Doctors and a nutritionist to build her immune system up through proper nutritionally balanced meals, vitamin & mineral supplements, exercising (what you can tolerate as well as what your Doctor will approve) and plenty of rest & relaxation.

She found that if she drank any kind of alcohol the day before treatments, she would be very sick the day of and for 2 days after her treatments. So she hydrates herself with plenty of water, or her beloved Propel water (since it has vitamins in it as well) and she has done well. She is able to go to work after her treatments, as she bartends' and waitresses at our local bowling alley (that my bf, assistant manager & in charge of promotions/P.R., also works at).

However, she is also a smoker even though she knows the dangers of cigarettes. I will leave that be though.

I just want you both to know that I am praying for you both, thinking about you both, and wishing you both the very best as you travel to complete health and wellness once again.

You will make it! I know you both will. Hugs, Love & Kisses,

Lydia

chemo is very, very rough both physically and emotionally. it can take a very heavy toll on the patients and sometimes on the families. it is generally very tiring and I don't kow of anyone who could have a serious chemo treatment and be working that same day. I don't believe we've advanced that far as yet. but maybe the facilities are better out in cali.

traveling for her in between rounds, it doesn't sound likely to me. but it is different for everyone. with a little more time, your doctors will probably be able to give you a better picture.

luck to you both.

Thanks for the updates.

Chemo is tough, side effects and results differ but one thing about it is solid, the hair loss pretty much always happens. For a woman to lose her hair in the process is emotional to say the least. Gentle, gentle, gentle and no joking with each other about it.

Much love, much luck.

chemo has multiple effects and the effects can change by the day. Some times a person can go through chemo and like u said go to work or just go on with their day but other times the chemo wears a person down and all they want to do is rest and sometimes it even makes them ill for a while after the session is over. There really is no set reaction to chemo and the thing is to have a strong support system in place and have people willing to care for the person and its obvious to everyone that SVD has that with you. Just keep in mind that the road isnt always going to be easy but u just gotta keep pushing through and keep the goal of recovery in front of u and never lose sight of it.

Much Love and continued prayers from my fam to urs

Get well soon SVD.

Rob and Sonya...

MY BEST WISHES to BOTH of you!

Rob...it sounds like you have an AMAZING Woman there! You're a VERY FORTUNATE man!

And Sonya...the way that Rob LOVES you and SUPPORTS you, is just ANOTHER sign of the TOTAL between the two of you!

As a Cancer Survivor myself, it is NOT an easy battle...but with the LOVE and SUPPORT that you share...ther is NOTHING that can't be overcome!

I was lucky NOT to have needed Chemotherapy, but I've heard that Chemo will affect people in different ways. Some will have NO affects while others WILL! Only time will tell which category that Sonya will be in!

But...GOD BLESS YOU BOTH! Rob for being there for Sonya, and Sonya for the battle you are facing! But...at least...you are facing it TOGETHER!

MY PRAYERS are with you BOTH!

Much luv from myself and the whole Championship Comedy crew!!

As far as Chemo is concerned I had a dear friend who needed it to deal with a simulair problem and it was as you stated.. different depending on the day. Some days she was cranky and drained physically as well as emotionally... other days she was herself.
She has since fully recovered JUST AS SONYA WILL.

Y'all rock,

SVD is one cool lady. I hope to find me one of those one of these days, ;-)

From what I understand, Chemo affects each people different. It can be pretty rough, with strong side effects shortly after the treatments. If you or your wife likes to read, I would recommend the book written by Lance Armstrong, "It is not About the Bike". It is extremely inspirational and it give you a great insight into his personal journey fighting cancer.

Stay strong, and I hope the cancer goes in remission at the end of the treatments.

Don't worry, from what you said, SVD takes good care of herself, you're there to help her out anyway you can, everything will be alright. And the fact that you two have such a great relationship is really fantastic considering how something like marriage is taken lightly these days.

Hey Rob and Sonya,
Your love is what true love stories are made of. We all should be soo lucky as to experience it. I believe you are both lucky to have one another. You guys are growing stronger and stronger every day and I wish nothing but the best for both of you.

As for Chemo... It is going to be a rollercoaster. Like everyone has said, one day you will be feeling down and then another pretty much up and able to conquer the world. Try to get some info from the doc or heck do a google search on nutrition for chemo patients.

The hair loss will happen. My friend noticed her hair starting to fall out so she just had it shaved off.

God Bless guys and we will be praying for ya.
