i dont care.
not in the least.
we all do it. ive been there in the middle of the night kazaa'ing for a song i MUST have because its been in my head all day but i cant afford to get every record that i want...
its just the way it is. we all want to have all our favorite music to listen to but none of us can afford to buy all of it.... right? maybe just some of it.. especially artists we really want to support...
i mean, i do hope that i can make a living doing what i absolutely love to do...
but seriously i would rather you HAVE my music than not have it. ok?
so dont feel guilty if you rip something or trade it.
now is the best time for an artist like me. but it also means that i want to do things by word of mouth. if you like my music i do hope that you get the lost record ep that's coming out in a few weeks..but if you then help me spread it everywhere i will only be sending good vibes your way.

all my sunniest love,

strawberry

Yeah, not gonna lie, every song I have by you has been downloaded.
Your music is AMAZING, though, and I MUST have that EP, so I will definitely be buying it as soon as it's out.

I don't illegally download. But that is just me. I don't own an IPOD cause I don't need one. If I can still buy it on vinyl I do, cause that to me is still the best medium for listening to music. Unfortunately not too many people make any of their new music on vinyl. I don't really see anything wrong with downloading music. Growing up I used to record on tape songs that I used to listen to on the radio. But that is a bye gone era. I think people have to keep up with new things even though I don't. Its cause I choose not to get involved with new fads. Cause after a while new fads are just reinventions of old ones.

I used to download like a crazy person, but now I really try not to just because I've realized that it's not just the artists that have families to support. It's all the other people. ANd while you and I basically agree that record execs and the likes of them are sleazy jerks for the most part, they need a job like the rest of us.

But I don't tell my friends "don't download," and when artists like yourself do everything basically with no help from record companies and then say "Download away!" I don't have a problem doing just that. ANd like SP, they're all for open taping and bootlegging, so I don't feel guilty downloading live shows (Not that I EVER do, because what other way am I giong to experience that EXACT show??)

Anyway. I'm glad you just care about the music. You're a cool lady =)

Thanks for posting your thoughts on this issue. Every song that I have, you've given away. I can't wait for your record. I dreamt that I saw your video on the network at my gym. It seemed so real. Whatever happens, I love your attitude that you just want to get the music out. You are a true artist lady. Thanks for sharing....always!

hey, thanks for letting me download your song "fuck you, I'm beautiful" for free. I really dig your music and I spread the word. I put you on my iPod shuffle and school my friends by giving them a demo listen of your tune.

I must admit I do use soul seek to download music. I am poor, but I support the live music scene by going to a lot of shows of unsigned bands that travel through Albuquerque.

I know you'll make it girl. Your music speaks for itself!

Spreadin' the love of the Strawberry,
Melissa

I will buy one. I don't download music because I have friends like Strawberry whom is working hard to just make music. Buying it is the only way that I can support and keep them going. The legal part is of no concern but my friends are. Strawberry your music and your beautiful soul worth what little it cost me.........Terry

The only difference between downloading an album & shoplifting is that you don't have to wear a big coat. Stealing is stealing & it's wrong.

Boy did I get into an argument at a party over this.

do you think it's wrong to borrow a friend's CD to sample the music before deciding whether or not to support an artist?

I've downloaded your stuff too - downloading is a way to get artists known! But, I'm still going to boy your CD.

I have this policy of buying music I really like. Even if I download it first.

i agree. i get so pissed about the whole idea
that someone with gold teeth tells me that im
taking food out of his familys mouth. i dont
download entire albums or anything but i will
snag a song here and there if i dont like anything
else by the artist. and just because i do that
doesnt mean i wont get the album sometimes.
i love billys solo album more than anyone i have
yet to encounter. when i the songs leaked i
downloaded them but then i went out and bought
the album the very moment they released in stores.
i realize that my buying the albums gives people
like billy the means to make more music so i
support them whenever they release something
but i dont think we should blame the people that
cant do that everytime. i mean how are you
going to tell a fan that makes minimum wage
that hes/shes a thief for stealing a song, one he/she
stole only because they loved the music and
couldnt afford at the time?

people confound two aspects of dl-ing: (1) it allows people to share their musical tastes with friends, put the word out about unknown music, lets new artists or established artists with new work to get heard outside of mainstream radio. (2) it lets people steal other people's creativity.

The technology is the same in both cases, and that's why people confuse them. When I grew up, my friends and i would trade music on cassettes. Then we would go out and buy more records from the bands we liked. That's how it should work. But with peer-to-peer and mp3s, you don't have to spend 180mins recording two albums onto a tape to share it with one friend: you click your mouse 5 times or so, and hundreds of people can listen to your whole music collection. Since the technology no longer limits how much you share, *people's* own ethics should.

To me it's a no brainer: download and listen to stuff you are curious about. Delete it if you don't like it. Keep it if you think it's ok, and you might want to listen to it a couple of more times. *BUY IT* if you end up putting it on your i-pod and listening to it every other day. *BUY IT* if you like it enough to share it with your friends. *BUY IT* if you're going to remix it or sample a lot of it and then share the result on the web. "IT" doesn't have to be the exact tracks you downloaded, but at the least should be some more tracks from the same artist, or concert tix, or their live DVD or whatever.

I think established artists should move to a voluntary payment system. Instead of DRM that prevents copying, DRM should do something like nag you with "suggested donation $0.99 if you like this track", and perhaps keep a count of your ratio of things you've taken/shared for free vs. what you payed for. That way "good citizens" who pay more get bragging rights.

i have downloaded a fair amount of music. i have absolutely no problem with that. it's called "sharing." i consider myself a true music lover and i've spent a LOT of my hard earned money on concerts, merch, and other such things that support a band financially far more than album sales. and of course, if i like an album, i go out and buy it. i think as long as people look at downloading as a means to "sample" a product but are still conscientious about supporting the music they like, there shouldn't be a problem.

It's like software if you find it worth while then buy it. With music the day cassettes were made we all mad copies to share with friends and then they would buy the LP or later on CD. In a way it actually benefits the spreading of the music. The funny example were CD's. When they first came out most would buy them and copy onto cassette then sell them back at 85% what they paid. Then all of the sudden you could only get three dollars for a CD or trade 3 for 1. That was funny. I still believe music should have a license fee like software. You buy the CD, single song it should always be able to get a new CD for the cost of a CD to replace a damaged CD or loss of a single song purchased. For some reason my Bob Marley CD's would get damaged and have to buy a new one or like right when I purchased my Pornos for Pyros CD and put into my 5 CD player it ate it. When I finally got it out there was a giant groove in it and only one song worked. I still have and and wish I could play it. Those are the draw backs of the music industry you have to buy a new one to replace a old one. It should have been a license fee since th first LP came out. How many great LP's I have that wont play since the groove have been flattened from sitting years in the correct position.
Just my 2 cents I agree with you, but we need to support the band if we find them worthy since they will disappear from lack of funds.

I don't like to download. So as to keep the temptation away, I don't even have a program to download with. Now, that doesn't mean I don't on occasion trade a file with a friend. But, I trade from music I have already bought. And 9 times out of 10, I turn my friend onto the band in which they go out and eventually buy the record. And vice versa...

Support the Bands You Love!!!
