most likely you've heard of the 'birther' movement. essentially the birthers are angry republicans who don't believe that president obama was born in the united states, and thus shouldn't be eligible to be president.

it's hard to talk about them and not use terms like 'delusional' and 'nutty', especially as: a-obama has a hawaiin birth certificate and b-every related agency in hawaii has certified that he was born in the united states.

people in the birther movement keep asking, 'why won't he provide his birth certificate?' which is odd, as his birth certificate was provided ages ago. here it is:

in addition to this there were also announcements of his birth in hawaiin newspapers, naming the parents and the hospital.

the birthers claim that this is all a fraud, that 48 years ago his family faked his american birth so that 48 years later he'd be elected president. um, i mean, how do you answer that? when there's documentation and fact proving people wrong, but when people still hold on to their beliefs, i mean, what do you do? like creationists. they believe the world is 10,000 years old, even though there's no evidence that the world is less than 4,000,000,000 years old. but when people cling to beliefs with no supporting facts, what do you do? how do you talk to someone whose beliefs are delusional?

it reminds me of an encounter i had in 2005. i was talking to a bush supporter from oklahoma about the war in iraq. i basically said, 'well, the war should never have been started, because iraq had nothing to do with 9-11 and there were no weapons of mass destruction found there.' to which this person said, 'oh, you're wrong, iraq started 9-11 and they definitely had weapons of mass destruction.' to which i said, 'every news outlet and even president bush has admitted that iraq had nothing to do with 9-11 and that they didn't have weapons of mass destruction. there's literally no evidence that iraq had anything to do with 9-11 or that they had weapons of mass destruction.' to which this person said, 'oh, you can't trust the facts. and they're not telling you everything.' i mean, again, what do you do? when someone has a belief (like that obama was born in kenya) that has absolutely no factual support, but yet they refuse to change their mind?

i understand that people want the world to be different from how it is (creationists want a world that is 10,000 years old, flat earth society members want a world that is the center of a small universe, 'birthers' want a world where obama isn't president, republicans want a world where saddam hussein had weapons of mass destruction, etc). but the world is at is, and it rarely conforms to our narrow and specific hopes for what it will be. holding on to an ethical belief (women should be allowed to vote, blacks and whites should be able to drink from the same water fountain, etc) in the face of unethical circumstances is noble, as the circumstances can be changed. but holding on to beliefs that are factually incorrect and can never be changed (as much as the birthers dont like obama, he did win the election and he is a united states citizen) is quixotic and delusional. it's kind of baffling.

It's for the same reason that so many people deny evolution because "no transitional fossils have been produced".

Idiots ignore what they don't like.

Dummy Darrell,
In reading your rants, i'm a little confused. You seem to be siding with both the left and the right. Its your kind that has this entire problem fubar'd. The problem with the middle class is that most are only one generation from an uneducated non cultured rabble, example: little dummy Darrell. Its the left that allowed your kind to uplift yourselves from the depths of your on degradation, and now it seems you have forgotten your place. Maybe you should just shut the fuck up and stop rocking the goddamn boat.

Hmmm, about evolution...
The "missing chain piece" (We say in french chaînon manquant, I'm not sure of my english translation), was found a couple of months ago.
Darwin has right from the start and now we have the scientific proof.

I'm not even going to get into these comments as I've been out of town for the past week, but every group has its fringe.  I know plenty of people (known as "truthers" who were absolutely convinced that 9-11 was an inside job orchestrated by the Bush Administration.  It was propagated in the media, the internet, and in social forums.  People will always be suckered into these crackpot ideas.  I think the "birthers" are only hurting themselves, and that the Obama Administration is doing the right thing in ignoring them - just as the Bush Admin. ignored the "Truther" Movement.  Remember, the absence of evidence is not proof of anything.

well they did a great job of blocking out  their nominees birth background... can anyone say panama? and even though the panama canal was under u.s. control i believe panama is still a completely different country. so perhaps its best the "birthers" let that one go.. that bird ain't gonna fly and it didn't.

I take it you are talking about mccain but being born to a service man or woman on a us controlled territory or military base still counts as being a national born citizen.  As for obama if he was born here he will stay president, if not it will come out and he will no longer be president.  As for him being born in hawaii i think he was.

absolutely... yes i did know that... and how i learned of it was when we were first learning about the candidates this was brought up... in regards to mccain...
....the discussion came up about the very point of that... that panama was under u.s. occupation... the argument was mute but centered around the fact that panama was still a foreign country even though.. the fact that those conditions and or/considerations  were in place did not seem to stop people from debating about the fundamental idea that the president must be a "natural" citizen.....
....it was an interesting discussion... as it was also the first time i heard about obama's background.......
....i would find it absurd that for as much digging is done on these candidates... if something was going to be found that was legit it probably would have been already... but anything is possible...

Who cares if he was Born in the USA.
At least he won an election unlike some other candidate (if you catch my drift..)

The war in Iraq was to make sure he won a second.

This is meant to be the 21st century but sometimes it seems like the dark ages.
I saw on the news at the weekend that Britain's last survivor of WW1 died.
There was a little archive interview with him and he said the most amazing thing I think I've heard in years.
He said "all these wars get settled around a table by politicians, so, why didn't they do that in the first place instead of sending us to get shot at".

The woman behind this a really horrible dentist named Dr. Orly Kaitz has been proven to be a certified nutcase. I believe I had an experience with her some years ago when she was partner in a dental office on Robertson Boulevard in the southern part of Beverly Hills. Just to scare the beejesus out of her and drive her mad (trust me it will be a very short trip) I E-Mailed her and said I would be contacting the state board to ask to have her license revoked-she did do some damage to my teeth and I encourage anyone else in that position to do so as well. If she continues to be out in public, she'll shortly completely lose it and might be arrested for disrupting a flight or something of that nature.

Even the most repulsive Republicans, such as Karl Rove and Michelle Malkin, have acknowledged this is bullshit. This would be a good time to put pressure on CNN advertisers to fire Lou Dobbs.

A little known secret but one you'll hear celebrities talk about all the time is their desire to be kidnapped and made someone's love slave. Often they'll hold parties with each other where the main topic of conversation is how disappointed they are that no one has yet made them their love slave. Ladies, this means you, too-the Jonas Brothers secretly want you. But you can't disappoint them the way a 53 year old Georgia man disappointed Miley Cyrus when he blew it yet again, breaking her little heart.

So as a public service to those of you who haven't learned the fine art of celebrity stalking and kidnapping here's a little refresher course:

The biggest mistake would be stalkers make is telling their intended loves their intentions by repeatedly sending E-Mails, text messages and creepy letters. This takes all the mystery out of it for the celebrity-and therefore all the fun too.

What you need to do is this:

Get yourself some basic supplies after doing research from your local hardware store and chemical supply stores in your area.

Research your celebrity love on the internet. Ask their friends personal questions like where do they live, where do they like to shop and what do they usually wear out in public. Very basic stuff.

Learn how to use Google and Mapquest.

Kidnap your celebrity love or loves (if they happen to be a group such as the Jonas Brothers), tie them up and throw them in the basement. Only at this point do you tell them how much you love them and how much they mean to you.

They'll usually really get into the roleplaying game at this point and here is when their wildest fantasies come true. They'll start kicking and screaming, yelling for the cops, threatening you and telling you how much they hate you. But that's just because they're so excited at the prospect that finally someone gets them and now they can spend the rest of their lives as your little love slave!

Now you've finally made a celebrities deepest desire come true.

Don't forget, Hillary Clinton's supporters were also major proponents of what is now considered the "Birther" claims:

"A prominent Philadelphia attorney and Hillary Clinton supporter filed suit this afternoon in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against Illinois Sen. Barack Obama, the Democratic National Committee and the Federal Election Commission. The action seeks an injunction preventing the senator from continuing his candidacy and a court order enjoining the DNC from nominating him next week, all on grounds that Sen. Obama is constitutionally ineligible to run for and hold the office of President of the United States.

Philip Berg, the filing attorney, is a former gubernatorial and senatorial candidate, former chair of the Democratic Party in Montgomery (PA) County, former member of the Democratic State Committee, and former Deputy Attorney General of Pennsylvania. According to Berg, he filed the suit--just days before the DNC is to hold its nominating convention in Denver--for the health of the Democratic Party.

"I filed this action at this time," Berg stated, "to avoid the obvious problems that will occur when the Republican Party raises these issues after Obama is nominated."

Exactly.
And on this birther thing, what do people think would happen if dorkObama were really born in Kenya? Un-elect him? Congress would declare him a citizen. They can do that. To wait six months to take a President out of office because he's not a citizen is not an option. Don't people think if there were anything to this, Hillary would have found out during the campaign? This is such a non issue and I really wish people would jump the great elephant eared one for destroying this country, not where he was born.
And one more.
Check out the Hawaiian papers back then. They have his birth announcement. No conspiracy on earth could have planted that there.

These "..birther.." people are NUTS, Moby. And -- contrary to what the Right-wing intelligentsia has been saying -- I don't think they're a fringe group in the larger Conservative Movement/Republican Party; I think they're the CORE! I mean -- there's been a great deal of discussion being brought to the fore as to why more "mainstream" conservatives haven't been more vocal in their opposition to these lunatics. And -- truthfully -- I don't think such a big deal would've been raised about Pres. Obama's birth history if he weren't the county's first ..African-American president.. -- or didn't have a first and last name that sounds so "exotic" to your average redneck!

And -- these same nutjobs wouldn't dare raise a stink about the fact that ..John McCain was born in Panama..!

Also, here in Texas, there's a ton of these "birthers" in so-called "independent" groups like the Libertarians and the Ron Paul "Revolution". Indeed, I've seen a ton of these Ron Paul types showing up at meetings with signs and calling Barack all manner of racial slur! Indeed, Chris Matthews recently called out the Libertarian party -- which he generally respects -- for not sticking to their so-called "independent" tones and joining in on the fringe hoopla. I'd like to tell him to move here to the south; many of them here in Texas are gun-toting hicks who miss the days of plantations and think evolution is akin to alchemy!

You give the Republicans a lot of credit, when much of that credit belongs to Hillary Clinton's supporters during the presidential campaign.  Birthers might be misguided and wasting their breath, but by no means are they purely Republicans and Independents.

"I filed this action at this time," Berg stated, "to avoid the obvious problems that will occur when the Republican Party raises these issues after Obama is nominated.".

Berg cited a number of unanswered questions regarding the Illinois senator's background, and in today's lawsuit maintained that Sen. Obama is not a natural born U.S. citizen or that, if he ever was, he lost his citizenship when he was adopted in Indonesia. Berg also cites what he calls "dual loyalties" due to his citizenship and ties with Kenya and Indonesia.

Even if Sen. Obama can prove his U.S. citizenship, Berg stated, citing the senator's use of a birth certificate from the state of Hawaii verified as a forgery by three independent document forensic experts, the issue of "multi-citizenship with responsibilities owed to and allegiance to other countries" remains on the table.

In the lawsuit, Berg states that Sen. Obama was born in Kenya, and not in Hawaii as the senator maintains. Before giving birth, according to the lawsuit, Obama's mother traveled to Kenya with his father but was prevented from flying back to Hawaii because of the late stage of her pregnancy, "apparently a normal restriction to avoid births during a flight." As Sen. Obama's own paternal grandmother, half-brother and half-sister have also claimed, Berg maintains that Stanley Ann Dunham--Obama's mother--gave birth to little Barack in Kenya and subsequently flew to Hawaii to register the birth."

Ah...why do I think you spent all afternoon -- no all of early morning AND this afternoon searching for this "data".

If you read the gist of what I said earlier, pet, you'd see that my main focus was on the fact that many higher ups within the Conservative Movement/Republican Party and Libertarian circles weren't challenging the so-called "fringe" birther elements within their ranks. Also -- while I've stated that I don't believe that all Republicans are necessarily racist birther propagandists, I do believe that this sort of lunacy is more at the "core", than the fringe of past Republican victories. It served to energize more than a few in the Bush years. And I categorically re-state that the president's birth data wouldn't even be an issue if not for his race, or -- at the very least -- his name. But I digress, "...walk", or Roy (if you prefer). Nope.  Google works in microseconds...  Of course, I WAS paying attention during the campaign, so naturally I remembered when the whole thing started.

The official Republican Party line condemns the Birther movement.

Republican Party Chairman Michael Steele:

"Chairman Steele believes that this is an unnecessary distraction and believes that the president is a U.S. citizen. Chairman Steele wants to move beyond this conversation and continue discussing the real and immediate concerns that face American families like the economy and health care. Americans are concerned with President Obama’s health care plan, a failed stimulus package and a ballooning deficit. Chairman Steele has many other issues to take up with the president that have to do with policy, not a birth certificate.”

http://theplumline.whorunsgov.com/republican-national-committee/exclusive-michael-steele-blasts-birtherism-as-unnecessary-distraction-says-obama-is-us-citizen/

Republican House Minority Whip Eric Cantor:

"Mr. Cantor doesn’t question the President’s citizenship, but he has serious questions about the President’s push for government controlled healthcare, taxes on small business job creators, and a huge energy tax on middle class families. ..He finds it ironic that those most eager to talk about the President’s citizenship are in fact some of his biggest cheerleaders–whether it’s Chris Matthews or others on MSNBC, the Huffington Post, or camera toting liberal bloggers.. chasing people through the streets of Washington.”

http://theplumline.whorunsgov.com/president-obama/eric-cantor-rips-chris-matthews-msnbc-huffpo-liberal-bloggers-for-pushing-birther-story/

To be quite honest, I do enjoy a good conspiracy theory - even if I don't believe in them myself.  My current favorite is that this whole Birther issue (non-story that it really is) was cooked up by the Democratic Party to make the Republicans look foolish - much as the Truthers made Democrats look silly.  This is supported (but by no means proven) by the lawsuit I already mentioned, and the way that the more liberal side of the media (Chris Matthews, Lou Dobbs, Huff Post) keep promoting the story.  LOL.  People believe what they see in the media, for better or worse, and the more airtime the Birthers get, the longer they'll stick around.  It's as if the Dems want some sort of a smokescreen to distract the general public from other debates...

To put it quite simply, you disgust me.

You have some nerve to stereotype and generalize others, and in the same breath call them racist and extremist... among other things. I hope that some day you realize how terribly one-sided and inconsiderate your words are. You would be doing yourself and others a favor to try seeing things a bit more objectively, not to mention have some empathy and respect for those that disagree with you. Spite-filled name-calling is not exactly the best way to make people listen to you or take you seriously, for that matter.

Oh, I disgust you? Really? All the better, Phoenix!

You've been a regular little self-professed know-it-all for a while, so quick to show people how....ASCENDED you are in your perceived "independence" and -- as you've always put it -- utilitarian views. You've come in numerous times belittling people as uninformed and you've numerous times called people with views opposed to your's "socialist". I can remember you calling Pres. Obama socialist; I'm further to the left than that, and believe me -- he's not socialist.

Heck -- you've even told people that thought the U.S. healthcare situation was undesirable that they should pick up and move to another country -- a s socialist one! And you think people take your self-important "independent" rants as serious?! All this from someone who has also defended the Ku Klux Klan!

Take it from me, "Phoenix", people like you are born disgusted at a world that no longer looks like they think it should with people in log cabins and packing guns in a holster on their belt. If I disgust you -- all the better. Your self-assured, gun-horny persona is pretty pathetic as it is! Do us both a favor and look the other way, luv. I love how someone discusses a respect for the Klan as a "freedom fighting" group, yet calls someone else out. We don't have to talk at all; I sugges you get the stench of your self-important twot off your lips and take your so-calle "indie" views ot someone who BELIEVES you are as intelligent as you think you are. You've even suggested Moby should write about other things, lol, when it's HIS BLOG!

I'm not really sure where you get the idea that I'm here to belittle people, however, if that's the way you want to perceive things then fine. You're entitled to do so.

In regard to me referring to anything as Socialist, why is that such a magnificent insult to you? What, does Socialism bother you? Socialized medicine is what many countries implement, and I don't think it works well. Nationalizing healthcare entails a lot of similar policies. However, you're interpreting my usage of the word 'Socialist' as some sort of incredibly derogatory term... and why I don't really understand.

I don't claim to remember what I've said word for word, but I can tell you that what I generally meant by suggesting that people move to another country was that if they want socialized medicine they should go somewhere else for it. Many of the things that go along with nationalized healthcare go against everything this country stands for. I did not mean to imply that there was nothing that could be improved about our current situation. Sorry if you can't understand when I'm simply trying to make a point.

In regard to the KKK, don't put words in my mouth or twist them. If you do your research, it is clear what the KKK originally was - and it did not start out as a hate group. What's wrong with pointing that out for the sake of discussion? By no means have I ever defended its violence. For the record, the whole reason I even brought that up was that I'd recently studied it in a history class. To discuss historical fact is not synonymous with supporting racism, violence, and hatred - as you seem to think.

I think that if you stopped letting your imagination run wild about the motives of others for a change, you might actually be able to cool down and let go of some of your own spite.

You're a fucking joke! Lol...your ancestors as in the white people who "carved out the wilderness"? You need to pull your head out of your c%# and get off your "New World Order" tirade! Stop watching Fox News and listening to Glenn Beck and Alex Jones!

What a Liberal tool. You got nuthin', so you attack.
But then, I don't expect anything less from a worthless Liberal.

You are a prick, you have always been a prick. How does it feel to constantly be a predictable prick? Being such a prick must be exhausting!

Whatever tickles your fance, "....shanti". You're definitely somebody that's visited here before and spouted off various illogical tirades. Last time, it was "Obama didn't salute the U.S. flag" or some nonsense.

Nope -- I'm not a racist, and I'm PRETTY informed. I just took issue with your "my ancestors" comment. Sounded very "twisted" of you, i.e. bigoted.

You're just here to have a good time, though, so I'll let you run with it sugar-plum.

watch the language, Mirror!
must say the world would be alot better off without people like Glenn Beck, though.  i'm sure he's going home laughing at himself and everyone who listens to him.

Lol -- what would give you THAT idea?!

Actually -- I've known some pretty nice and {gasp} sensitive ones, but -- my experiences in college (as a gay African-American), on the job and even in these MESSAGE BOARDS has shown me something all too....'Klan-lite'.
That's the best way I can put it!

There's been some pretty vicious ones to come through the Moby boards ALONE -- even the ones that claim to be about the "facts", lol.

I work for the NSA, Roger! Lol...no. Actually I work at the Univ. of Texas as the head writer of a newsletter.

These discussions USUALLY don't get this heated, Roger -- and I seldom cause ANY reaction; regrettably, since the 2008 election, Moby's board has engendered an influx of far-Right whack jobs! I mean --you've had people come in here and call people the "n" word just for fun, refer to the White House grounds as a watermelon patch -- the whole nine yards. I don't necessarily believe that the Republican party is the home of modern xenophobia, but...like Bill Maher said...."All Republicans aren't racist, but if you're racist, you're more likely a Republican." Lol.  It's all in good debate, however, and nothing to be taken personally....
