Praise for R. Vance

"This is an amazing story that leaves you fulfilled after reading and keeps you thinking with every chapter...never a dull moment! I am definitely looking forward to the next book. Keep'em coming!" - Heather D. on Dies Irae (day of wrath)

"Dead Seed is a nice change of pace for the subject of vampires. Dracula, Lestat, Kurt Barlow, and more recently Edward Cullen, vampires throughout literature each have their own traits that make them unique outside of immortal powers and their lust for blood. That’s obviously what makes them memorable. R. Vance’s vampire, called Aimeric, is no different; and he is such a unique and powerful character that I would love to see him again in a sequel." - Shannon Yarbrough (lulu book review) on Dead Seed

Yes, finally, I have some real news on my upcoming fantasy/adventure novel, "Dies Irae".

I have spent several months looking for agents and publishers that would be willing to give a newb like me a chance and pick up my book. After several months of searching, I only found 5 agents that I was able to submit to after going over their guidelines. It's now been about 2 months since I submitted my work to them and I've been rejected by all.

I just spent most of tonight looking up small-time publishers and I have come to the conclusion that my story is too long for publishers/agents to take a chance with since I'm a "no-name" at the moment. It's twice the size of a "normal" novel at near 200k words.

So. . . .

I'm just going to publish this one myself via Lulu, and try to keep my next novel at an acceptable length for a newb so publishers won't get scared by me.

I need a few weeks to get ready, but "Dies Irae" will soon be officially released.

There is one problem, though. . . .

Because "Dies Irae" is so long, I can't publish it as one book. Lulu has a limit of, I think, 740 pages and there's just no way I can squeeze my book down to that size without making the print impossible to read. So, I'm going to have to break this little book down into two books, which means the first book will leave you on a cliffhanger, BUT, here's my plan:

1. I'm going to make the second book available for ONLY print cost. That means I won't get any profit off it, readers will just pay what it costs to print the book, and then of course the shipping. This is the only way I can think of to make the book affordable at its size.

2. There will be no bullshit where I release the first book and then wait a year to release the second one in order to make the readers "anticipate." Both books will be released at the same time so you can have the whole story all at once if you so choose. Or if you just want to order the first one to see if you're going to like it before ordering the second half, that's up to you.

I'm just sick of waiting to get this story into people's hands. It's already been 2 years since the first release date I set for it. I would try rewriting it (again) to try and condense the story into one book, but to be honest, I can't. I've tried. I just can't bear to delete any part of this story.

I will also be releasing a new teaser trailer since there have been some changes to the story since the last trailer was released.

I think that's about it. Stay tuned.

p.s. I will be writing a blog about "Dollar Week/Month" soon, so check back for that, too.

Hey Reyanna, I never read Dies Irae on Quizilla so I'm excited to see it on print! Yay! It sucks that people rejected - I mean I loved your VDE... Dead Seed novel really much.

Remember I told you that I wrote it for the International Baccalaureate paper - I thought it was good along with my coordinator who read it but when it was sent to be judge, it didn't do so well and I never found out why.

... I guess they don't have a mind for fantasy novels! Well keep up the good work!

Hey hun! It's good to hear from you!

Hmm, that is strange that they didn't tell you why. I wonder what happened there....

I actually never put "Dies Irae" on Quizilla--I was too paranoid it would be jacked by thieves! lol. So this is a new story to just about everyone, but I hope you like it when it does finally get published :-D

Hey, since you were having so much trouble, I was thinking of lending a hand. I'm sure you remember me, mostly from DA. :P Fanart is due, yes.

Yes, length is a big issue. JR Tolkein's series actually didn't become a series in and of itself, because the second book, Lord of the Rings, was too long. Sometimes, books are meant to be split up. I'd say that you properly split and end the book into two books, and resubmit the first one. I know an editor/agent personally, so I can tell you right now that that is indeed your biggest problem, and you can't be scared to split the story. Uhm... if you need anything answered, I'll be happy to answer it, and I'll look into seeing if Max can hook me up for you.

Hi there!

That would be awesome if your editor/agent friend could give me some tips or anything to help, as long as s/he doesn't have to go to any trouble, lol.

Thank you so much!
