So I finally decided where I should take some time off – Brazil. I've been reading up to see where I can go during the trip…maybe Rio de Janeiro, maybe Salvador – but it's got to be near the beach where I can hit the surf.  I'm kinda bummed thou, because I got thrown a total curveball… my little sister.  She's been dead set on going to Brazil since last year, but Mom wouldn't let her go by herself.  I finally caved last week and promised Mom that I'd go along to watch over her… having her around is definitely going to take my game down to zero… but it does sound like it could be an awesome trip, and something I really need right now.  Maybe having family around won't be bad after all… help me to get my head on straight again.

SOME ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ABOUT BRAZIL FOR VISITORS:

Brazil is a large country with lots of different places to visit. The Northeast area, "Nordeste" in Portuguese, has beautiful beaches, resorts and cities. Some cities have carnaval parties all year long, such as Recife, Fortaleza, etc. There are also quieter places, ideal for families, such as "Porto de Galinhas" beach, which was many times classified as the prettiest beach of Brazil. The Northeast area has low crime ratings, and I've never heard of any tourist having problems with crime there, I've only heard that people have a blast there.

The Southern area of this country, "Sul" in Portuguese, comprehends the states of Curitiba, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul. This area is called the "European" part of Brazil; because it has many German, Dutch, Italian, etc, colonies, in which some towns still speak their original European languages. Thus, you will find towns in which the buildings architecture resembles the buildings in Europe, such as German architecture, etc. Moreover, in Blumenal they celebrate the Oktoberfest, which is the traditional German beer festival that attracts people from all over Brazil and the world. In addition, Santa Catarina has beautiful beaches in the island of Florianopolis, where international surf competitions take place. The state of Rio Grande do Sul, has many gorgeous mountain areas with train rides, typical culture, etc. This southern Brazilian area has very low crime ratings.

In the Southeast, "Sudeste" in Portuguese, are the famous states of Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.  The capital of the state of Sao Paulo, is also called Sao Paulo. This city is the third largest city in the world, which brings business travelers from all over the globe, and has all the features of a large metropolis, such as cultural places, museums, theaters, amusement parks, several awesome and fancy dance clubs, colleges and universities, parks, shopping malls, etc.

The state of Rio de Janeiro has many beautiful beaches and islands, with quiet and safe tourist spots and resorts, with some of my favorite beaches, which are great for scubadiving, etc. The capital of the state of Rio de Janeiro is also called Rio de Janeiro. However, in my opinion, the city of Rio de Janeiro can be a little more dangerous than the other cities of this country.

However, if you take some minimum precautions you will be fine: It is better to rent a car in the airport instead of taking buses and taxis, and stay only in the tourist areas, avoiding going to the suburbs. Also, it is better to walk around the city without wearing expensive jewelry. Thus, if you take these minimum precautions you will be able to have a great time enjoying your stay in this famous and exotic city. I visited the city of Rio de Janeiro three times, and every time I had an awesome vacation. I went there with an American friend once, and he told me that Rio is one of the most amazing places he has ever been, and he wants to go back there for vacation.

In addition, I have family members who live in the Rio de Janeiro city and they told me they never had any problems and they love living there, because it has everything, such as businesses, beautiful beaches, world-class athletes playing volleyball and soccer at the white sanded beaches, TV and movie stars walking around everywhere, awesome music, bars, restaurants, hotels, theaters, tourist attractions, etc.

Therefore, if you plan well your vacation, you will have a great time visiting Brazil.

If you get a chance, hit Joao Pessoa, captial of Paraiba, in the north east point of Brasil. Great beaches, less stress, a LOT cheaper.  If you manage to spend more than $30 for a full day of eating/drinking/snorkeling etc, I'd be very surprized.

Lara, you dont own your country , you just live in it . You are not lucky , thats all !
Brazil is a sexual tourist attraction because of YOUR authorities , check the new Sex museum in Niteroi by the gov of Rio . You should be mad at them because they are transforming rio into a putaria, so do not blame the gringos on that case, get a life !
I live in Rio for 5 years and I write screenplays and guess what stories your fellow citizen ask me to write about ? My sweet Lara, you are cooned by your own people.
Leave Brazil if you do not accept to be considered like one in 100 millions P...
That is the sad reality, and its a bit too late to blame a movie who just reflect what could really happen in Rio..I recommand all the gringos to watch carefully to avoid Brazil for their next vacations. You deserve to be ignored because you're racists toward strangeiros and safados as you call ALL FOREIGNERS IN BRAZIL.
Am I right or not ? Be honest and admit that TURISTAS will make more money than your stupid CIDADE DE DEUS ! I believe and I hope so because its true.

You know, Fab, if you really live on Rio, you should be the 1st person to avoid this kind of thing, you know.

You're probably american and you probably think you're better than us, right? Of course Turistas will make more money than that shit of Cidade de Deus, but I hope you shove it on your ass.

It's incredible how you think you own the whole world. Do I have to mention that NYC should be avoid by tourists because they can be rapped on streets, killed and tortured? Do I have to mention that you guys are so racists too, in fact, you guys make the latin people look like shit and you're constatntly diminishing their value.

Prostitution? Errrr..... I'm sorry, but most part of the 'putaria', like you said, come from America. Am I lyiing?

So, if you really live in Brazil, you should be called persona non grata, specially because you did not need to spend months to take a visa to come to Brazil and says a lot of bullshit of MY country. Yeah, we own the country, you don't. BTW, tell your friends to not come to here. People who think like you are un welcome in here.

Cidade de Deus is famous in the world as a good movie. It is actually one of the most realistic and intelligent movies ever done. This "turistas" movie is a depiction of Brazil. There is a museum of sex in NY also, u "intelligent". If u live in Rio, u should move out. People who think like u r not welcome in the Wonderful City. Brazilians are the least racist people in this world. Every tourist from any part of the world is welcomed. If we can them gringos, it is jsut an expression to b funny, but we do not hate people. Brazil has no enemies and does not go to war. We have no country trying to explode buildings in Br.

Open ur mind. Go back to ur safe country, whatever it is. GO HOME.

OK! OK! I APOLOGIZE ...DISCULPA EVERYBODY !! Brazil is a great country if you come with a lot of money to spend and do not say to loud what
you see which does not exist in reality. The beaches are beautiful, there are no needles in the sand and organ brokers do not exist in nordeste. Rio is not the city represented by girls of ipanema in tiny bikinis, all brazilians are well educated.
Lula is the new president loved by all his people and the real is going to rocket.
I love you all and especially the beautiful people who live all around the world called My friend ! muy amigo ! Mon Ami ! Mein freund.. The world is free for
everybody but in Brazil, you MUST support the poor, the gangs, the hookers...

Relax Alex ! And dont bother too much. Turistas will be a great success in Brazil because no one have a clue about reality. Beautiful girls, great cinematography, melissa georges and the new TOP of brazil novela LUCIA RAMOS ..You were really lucky to cast her, you should focus on HER instead of ANYONE ELSE.
She is THE NEW FEMALE RODRIGO SANTORO , you got a winner here !
For the reward ,thanks and the check is in the mail stuff, just remember I work in the industry and I am opened to any further cooperation. Locations, casting and ideas.

Hey Alex,

I'm from Brazil and I can't deny that this movie makes me upset, but thanks for what you've said that the movie shows not just violence but other things that are good about Brazil, it made me breathe deeper!

Anyway, good luck with the movie and in your carreer as an actor.

And about some good places to go in Brazil, well, there is this island, Arquipélago de Fernando de Noronha, it's more of a ecological place, you won't surf there, but I'm sure you'll get to see lots of beautifull places there.  check out this website -> http://www.noronha.com.br/english/index.html

Other place you can go is to Porto de Galinhas Beach it's placed on the northeast of Brazil, this is a beach town that has a really good reception for tourists, it's quite cheap, and you can go surfing or kite surfing in a beach right next to it, it's Maracaípe Beach, depending on the hotel you'll stay it's a 10 minutes walk max, with lots of beautty on the way, and trust me, you'll never get lost in a jungle! lol  I've been there! Lot's of parties too even more now that's summer time.Well, this beach is just 50 minutes way by car from the capital of the estate, Recife, that's also an awesome city, well, I live in it, lot's of parties, malls, it has the most clean beach in a urban area in Brazil, the Boa Viagem Beach, and a lot of other things to do and go. I know you'l love it! Check out this website -> http://www2.uol.com.br/portodegalinhas/

There is also Pipa Beach, it's in another state, and it is a totally different beach, it's more of a party beach, it's placed in an area of cliffs, an extraordinary beauty! A really big options of places to eat, but, you must be warned that there isn't very cheap as other places you may go. But if you go, I'm sure you like it! Check out this site -> http://www.pipa.com.br/english/index.html

Well, I hope I've helped, it's not because Porto de Galinhas beach is my favorite one, but it has been rated as the best beach of Brazil a lot of times!

And wherever you go in Brazil, I'm sure you will love it!

Bye.

Brazil is such a killer country... Ive been travelling a lot to Europe, Africa and U.S and I do love London and that would be tha place to be for me... but u are gonna have a killer time in Brazil... the girls are awesome, the food is great, the people are gonna be the warmest u have ever met for sure... just enjoy... I do agree with Marcela and Lara... movies like City of God and even others can show a side of Brazil that everybody overseas would know... and there is so much more behind it... good stuff... but i guess the bad stuff is what can be reminded in a easier way, right?

Anyways, the trailer looks rocking... im sure the movie is gonna be a hit...

hope is all good! Enjoy Brazil! All the best... Bruna

You´re going to LOVE Brazil

You´re going to have a blast here

Seriously. BUt please hit the South (Santa Catarina)

It´s the best part of Brazil.

I wouldn´t go to Rio De Janeiro, even though it´s the BIG famous state of Brazil, I dont think you Should go there. You´re going to have a bad image of there, and that´s not what you want. You want to have lots of fun & go crazy knowing that you´re safe.

If you do follow my tip you should go to Florianopolis (Floripa) - Santa Catarina. It´s an island here. There´s a bridge there like San FRancisco ´s bridge.

It´s very nice and safe there :)

Even though I was born in Brazil I dont fit in here. BUt don´t be scared of coming down here, There are some bad and good people here, but the brazilians are def. the warmest people you´re going to meet in your whole life.

Take care HOttie!

I´M BRAZILIAN TOO AND I LIVED IN THE US FOR ALMOST A YEAR! AFTER WATCHING THE TURISTAS TRAILER I´M NOT SURE IF YOU DID CAME TO BRAZIL.. WE DON´T HAVE CRAZY MURDERS LIKE IN THE US! THE CINDERELLA THING HAPPENS A LOT IN HERE... AND IF YOUR STORY WAS ALL ABOUT THAT EVERYTHING WOULD BE FINE.. BUT THE WHOLE THING WITH THE MURDERS AND THE BLOOD... THATS RIDICULOS.. THAT WOULD NEVER HAPPEN IN BRAZIL. AND WHATS UP WITH YOU AMERICANS THAT THING THAT BRAZIL IS ONLY  SAMBA, CAIPIRINHA AND VIOLENCE... WE HAVE A LOT MORE TO SHOW.. AND WE FEEL SORRY ABOUT PEOPLE LIKE YOU THAT COME TO BRAZIL AND ONLY SEE THAT.. YOU ARE PROBABLY BLIND MAN... WE ARE PROUD TO LIVE HERE AND TO BE PART OF THIS NATION.. WHY DON´T YOU DO YOUR MOVIE AT HAWAII? WHAT THE TOURISTS WOULD THINK ABOUT THAT? WOULD EVER VISIT IT AFTER WATCHING A MOVIE LIKE THAT? MAYBE THATS WHY YOU DIDN´T USE YOUR COUNTRY AS A SET... I JUST WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT AT LEAST PEOPLE THAT COME TO THIS PAGE CAN REALIZE THAT BRAZIL IS A LOT MORE THAN YOUR MOVIE SHOWS...

Mylena, I love you. You should work in movies. You have such a great imagination. But you are beautiful and that counts a lot in your country.
If i got your point, its better to tell a brazilian story in hawai because it
could damage the image of your NATION ? How do you spell XENOPHOBIA

Mostly all the cast is brazilian ( lucia ramos etc..) do you think they must be deported out of your nation for Trahison ? My dear Mylena, a movie is a consumer product, no more, no less and there is NO MATTER of getting upset about a fictional story.
This summer 6 millions of turistas are coming to Rio no matter a movie or anything.
Brazil is famous for every reason people think they could find there. If you want peace, beachlife and fun, you can find it..If you look for the dark side of Brazil, it exists too like any place in the globe..Human are good or bad , and brrazilians are only humans..and just humans.

Hi Fab, I definetely like you. You seem to be polemic and controversial, but most of everything you wrote so far is quite true. I am Brazilian and live in Canada. Although all the bad (sometimes true, others exagerated) things are told about Brazil, that is the place my husband, kids and I are going to live in a few years. There are many nice places to live in there, such as Minas Gerais, Santa Catarina, etc. According to UN Japan is the safest country in the world, with 0.6% rate in homicides against USA 9.4% , Canada 1.7% and Brazil 19%. Could you imagine everyone moving to Japan?! Sometimes we don't want just to be safe. We want to be happy. We want to be near to our loved ones. Or we just want a warm weather, not to worry about shovelling snow, hurricanes, volcanos, etc. About the movie Turistas, I am going to watch it because I really love movies, and I will make a coment just after seen it. But one thing I still know: Rio and Amazon are not neighbors and Topless is forbiden in Brazil, unless you are in a private beach. Buy the way, my husband is Canadian and loves Brazil. I am from Belo Horizonte. We met in Maceio in a vacation trip (a package to Maceio, Natal & Fortaleza, which I recomend, beautiful places). We married here in Canada and have a beautiful baby daughter.  When he retires we are going to live in Brazil. We can hardly wait!

I am also Brazilian and I was at the movies yesterday when I saw the stupid trailler.. I still can't believe I watched that.... I still can't believe the way the Americans see the Brazilian people.... Why does the movie take place in Brazil ?.. What are you thinking? Brazil is such a beautiful place and we have so much to show... so many good and beautiful things,,,Why do you Americans think our country is all about girls in tiny bikinis, caipirinha, violence, carnaval and samba.... I am tired  of the same thing... when the people ask where I am from and I tell I am from Brazil.... it is always the same thing... they look at you as you were the easy girl.. who is gonna do everything they want....

It has to stop.... we need respect... This movie is the most stupid, ridiculous movie I have ever seen....

Stop thinking Brazil is a place where everything can happen...Why don't you think about the problems in your country.... because as far as I know..America is not the perfect place at all ...

Well, Brazilian people love their own country because it has lots to offer:

It has a breathtaking nature; a gorgeous warm climate without hurricanes, earthquakes, etc; has cultural diversity; intellectual people who speak many languages; it manufactures and sells to internal and external markets private and commercial airplanes through the national Embraer company; it also manufactures automobiles; it has the best plastic surgeons of the world, where many Hollywood stars go have their plastic surgeries; it has the soccer team who won the most world cups; it has many other excellent athletes, as car racers, volleyball and basketball players, etc; it has the best technology in deep-ocean oil exploration platforms in the world; it has used renewable fuels to power vehicle engines for decades; it has a fun culture where people know how to enjoy life, party, and still further their professional careers; and has friendly citizens who enjoy accommodating visitors from all over the world, etc.

On the down side, Brazil has many socioeconomic problems, corrupt politicians and a large gap between the rich and the poor.

Is interesting what you have to say. Because I did not see any kind of education in your words. Which proves that you're not Brazilian not even American. Brazilian people are not like you nor American people.

I've noticed that you wanna know more about Brazil. According to you Brazil is just samba, asses etc..... the things you've mentioned...

Well, I am going to tell you just one thing for you to take a look at. Try to find things about PASTORIL. If you're familiar with the word CULTURE I think you will probably find something.  Oh...by the way.....This is only one thing. I don't want you to burn all your brain cells if I had to mention more....So...Take your time.

I am American/Brazilian I have lost 3 friends on downtown Miami at 3:00 PM. They were kidnapped and all of that shi.....

USA is no different than Brazil.........Correction....There is a difference....The Brazilians, don't teach people how to kidnap an airplane and throw it inside of a building through movies.

I agree we have to say truths about Brazil (The movie TURISTAS is a fiction is not true) but we have also to say truths about America.
This is the way America lives. They just watch movies and TVs and they think all of that is true. It is sad but THAT is DA truth.

The TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE is a movie and that movie is true story.

My Grandpa got shot inside the church in New Orleans. He survived thank GOD.

A kid got inside a school with a machine gun and shot everybody. And he was only 14 y/o.

Weeks ago a guy invaded a Christian church and killed three people.

WORLD....WELCOME TO AMERICA!!
A NATION WHERE MAN MARRIES MAN AND WOMAN MARRIES WOMAN.

It's just an awful movie!

I bet that north americans wouldn't like if some other country started shooting a movie about ALL of your stereotypes and making you seem like you're a bunch of things that you're not actually are.

I know it's not your fault (Alex), I'm just pissed off... american people can be so ignorant about some things...
It makes me sad to see how someone could make a movie like this... making other people seem to be a bunch of bums.

You're not better than other people. This things can happen EVERYWHERE.

Hey...

Thanks for the add. What a surprise .... I am a brazilian, too..... ahahahah.....I saw the movie trailer, and I ll definetely watch the movie. I am not going to say that I loved the trailer, however I see some good aspects about it. I always try to see the good side of everything....So, In my opinion the movie will show the both parts of Brazil.....the beautiful places, warm and friendly people and the economic and politic situation. And that's what is Brazil....a place that is a paradise, however leadered by dirty and selfish politicians. Maybe people will watch the movie and realize that Brazil is not only beautiful women, samba and soccer......but is much more than that. And that something really need to be done. Is just like in US, in the early 50's that the organized crime used to make the rules.....That's sad, but now is what is happening to brazilian people......the same way that US stopped the organized crime, I think that Brazil have the same capability, however sadly takes time, and a lot of afforts.....Anyways I think you got an ideia what is my opinion about all that....By the way.....I think is a great ideia to take some vacation with your family...you know enjoy them a little! You ll always have time to go bacj to Brazil again and party there by yourself or with some friends.....Again, Brazil is a great place to party!!!! And I know there I used to live there.....ahahahh.....Well...I hope you had a great time doing the movie.....And i hope you enjoy your trip to Brazil and come back there other times.....

See ya,

Amanda.

Yeah, right... now we're a bunch of thieves and sluts. We all live in jungles and swing on vines. We spend the whole day at the beach, drinking beer and doing anything but relaxing and partying. Maybe trying to find some bastards to do something mean to them (even better if they are tourists).

What a shame... i dunno why is that people keep on reinforcing this awful stereotype of Brazil.
If you were a little bit more open to other countries' culture, you'd know that this isn´t how things work over here.
We've got great things to show and great people (hardworking ones, I mean), totally the opposite that this fucking movie shows.

I really hope that this movies becomes a HUGE failure.
I get more disappointed everyday with your thoughts... Then you guys don't know why is that the whole world hate your ignorance when it comes to figure out what really happens in other countries. You don't even try to do it...
And to fuck things up even more, you do a movie that doesn't worth not even the movie ticket and show it to the whole world trying to make other people see your so called "superiority".

Screw you, ignorant.

Brazilians, I'm with you !

ok....Let the americans think they are the best, it makes they feel nice.I know Brazil has lots of problems but I know it has lots of good things.

Just don't say anything.Ask why didn't they make this tipe of films in the USA.

I know, I know, USA have good things too.....but they have to admit they have horrible things...maybe more than other countries.

There is one movie that shows that The USA has more violence than all the countries....that people there resolve all the problems with violence...that they don't know how to make it just talking...I don't remember the name now, but I promisse I'll get the name for you guys....

So....they just show the bad things in other places and the good things right there.Let them with them ignorance.

Kiss I'll back with the names see ya

Valew ae galera deixa eles pra lá....algu dia ainda vão fazer um filme mostrando todas as porcarias do pai´s deles bjão
