Although designed for an American audience, this was a very rich and vivid film. I recommend it to anyone; having said that knowing director Baz Luhrmann's style and his flair for fairytales from his previous films like 'Moulin Rouge!' and 'Romeo and Juliet' does aid the delivery of this film. 'Australia' is only hindered by its political messages which take away from its fantasy. I thoroughly enjoyed this film and on more than a few occasions felt my chest swell with pride to be Australian.

What a film. With a beautiful setting, and an even more beautiful story, this film is reminiscent of other Baz Luhrmann epics, though will appeal to a greater audience. The chemistry between Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman is electric, and the amazing performance by 13 year old Brandon Walters as the mixed blood Nullah is enough to make even the strongest of men cry. Australia is a film which will single handedly cement Baz Luhrmann's role as one of Australia's greatest exports.

It really was so fantastically brilliant. I disagree with the comment about it being made for an American audience. It is a Baz Lurhman film, made for Baz Lurhman. And for this country of course :) To those calling the film racist- stop being so narrow minded. This is the way the our world was in 1939. For us to pretend otherwise would be disrespectful. To all the critics saying Nicole can't act her way out of a paper bag, I say up yours. She is brilliant in this film, really hilarious actually. Hugh Jackman and that delightful little boy, Brandon Walters (I think thats his name- sorry, I'm so tired!) round up a wonderful cast. Oh and shout out to David Wenham. You've come a long way since Diver Dan, and you really disgusted me here. Which was a good thing. So, before I fall asleep. Love this movie.
Be proud of your country, and don't listen to the critics! Make up your own mind!

I entered not really knowing what this movie was about. All i knew were the actors and that it was 'another' outback Australia movie. Its marketing did not capture me to see it. However if me as a stubborn person can enter into that film and have a laughing reaction to the first half an hour to the movie then this is an amazing film. Nicole Kidman captured the moment of a British woman. Her tone her pose her acting is remarkable, entertaining and hilarious. Hugh Jackman, ladies will ADORE this with the many action-packed scenes from droving to running to loving and surviving. The setting though outback isnt naturally like every other "outback Australia" film. It doesnt focus on the outback, it rather focuses on the Aboriginals that bring the real Australia to life. The humour, the themes of love and survival, the acting, the atmosphere and many more I believe bring one of the truer views of Australia. I recommend this to be a biography to the world about Australia as not one has ever really achieved the feeling of the desert earth we all walk on. If I have to say an criticism it will have to be how long this film is. It goes for 2hrs and 35mins and I believe if the last half an hour was cut off it would have been a complete winner. It just dragged on with too many disasters and endings one after the other for a film.I also felt a little swift of manipulation in the end part where certain subtitle facts were shown. For people who havent really studied history, it might have been difficult to understand that 1973 was 30or so years after the Stolen Generations happened and when PM Rudd said sorry to the Aboriginies in 2008. All of these facts yes they are achievements however we must not forget how LONG these achievements had to develop...Although I give props to the crew of 'Australia' for one of the truer versions of Australia and making a beautiful and fascinating film.

Australia is a beautiful and magical country in itself. This enchanting movie by Baz Luhrmann tells us the story of an unlikely romance between three different people. Luhrmann captured the beauty of Australia in all the landscapes such as the bungle bungles and all the wild life like our kangaroos, Baz Luhrmann also captured well the not so beautiful side of early Australia with the few sexist comments and many racist comments, but thats how thing used to be. with all the increadable ausie actors and amazing soty Baz luhrmann's Australia keeps you on the edge of seat wanting more.

At first I was wary of a film which seemed geared towards sending a pleasing impression of Australia overseas, but once the movie started it became apparent this was a movie for Australians to enjoy too, with many inside jokes. The casting was spot on, and the cinematography was just beautiful. If there wasn't a niche market for scenes of Hugh Jackman herding cattle and smirking in slow motion before, there definitely is now!!! I also found Australia to be a very well structured film, with lots of character development. Love it, hate it, Australia is an instant part of pop-culture and recommended viewing.
