This is a collaboration of sorts with Ole. He sent me the drawing, and here's what I've done with it so far:

I normally draw my designs directly on wood, but this time I printed out the picture (so the finished piece is paper sized), cut out two pieces of plywood to the correct size, then taped a layer of painters tape to one piece. The other piece will be the backing board that the cut out pieces get glued to. Once the board was taped, I spray glued the paper with the design on it to the tape, this makes it much easier to peel, as trying to get spray glue off of wood isn't fun.

Here's a few pics I took along the way.

This is the size of the blade that I use on the scrollsaw, it clamps above and below the table/cutting surface.

The taped and glued piece ready to be cut, blade now inserted in the saw.

I started cutting from the red line in the middle at the top. Every line needs to be connected to another line or the outside edge for this process to work.

There's a few small pieces in it. One dropped through the hole where the blade comes up, I hate looking for small pieces on the floor, I once spent over an hour looking for a piece.

The first few pieces cut out and placed on the backing board

Two pieces on the leg sitting on top of a two dollar Canadian coin (toonie)

Peeling the tape and glue off, comes off nicely, no pencil marks or glue residue.

Done cutting, now just need to peel all 99 pieces.

All peeled. I'll paint each piece later. Stay tuned...

UPDATED:
12:30AM May 22nd Finished painting

Did some layers in acrylic, then added a bit of spray paint. A moth came by and wanted to be in the picture

Put squirts of a bunch of dfferent colors in a cup, picked a piece, dabbed my brush in and ...

it's not glued yet, but this is how it looks:

You are a true artist and your process confuses me, only b/c I'm not that familiar with the tools that you are using.  I'm glad I finally got to see a step by step process!

Didn't know it involved so much work and dedication.  From the final picture you just can't tell how much work actually goes into a piece of artwork like this.

Good Job!

How dope Dave!!!

That is an intense process. What drew you to scroll sawing as a means of creating art?

hey man, you gotta put this in the SketchBook Artist group, its awesome! There are a bunch of sketches and progressions from sketches to finished pieces there...

My dad is a woodworker, he was traveling the US making redwood signs when he met my mom... and when I was 5 he taught me to use the less dangerous tools in his shop, the first thing I ever made was an upper case A. Oh, I was so proud!  I had to sell my scrollsaw and table saw when we moved across the country and your photos brought back some good memories!

Post more of these, they are truly captivating!
