Tuesday, March 13, 2007

Hey everyone, Jason here! Just wanted to take a second and thank you guys for all your support! I just seen the doctor again and got my stiches out and my eye is fine. He said that I have a bad bruise and some broken blood vessels right on my eye ball and that is what caused me to lose my vision in the eye and is causing the pain I am still feeling in my eye. Let me be clear to all the haters out there,I did not quit! The fight was stopped because I could not see out of my right eye and my left was swelling closed. You try fighting Rich with half an eye! My corner stopped the fight for my own saftey! I'm not saying I wasn't rocked at the end of the round but I did not even know the fight was stopped!  Another week of rest and it will be fine to get back training.

As for the fight. I am very disappointed with the loss but Rich fought a smart fight and is super strong and hard to take down. I expected him to be much more aggressive like in his past fights but he came out fighting super safe and not opening up with kicks and combinations like he usually does. I ended up chasing him all over the octagon trying for the take down instead of  letting him come to me and open up so I could get the take down.

The one thing I was happy with was that I went out there and went after him and did not back down. There were allot of people saying Rich would knock me out just like Quarry. Well he hit me with everything he had and I continued to go after him and did not run away. It was a good learning experience for me and a good gauage of where I stand and what I need to work on.

For all those people that think my stand up is bad, you try fighting two very good left handed strikers. They are very hard to fight and have knocked out most of their opponents. My boxing is really pretty good. I train with some great pro boxers and do well aganist right handers. When I first got down to Jackson's and sparred with the guys they all said man your standup is way way better than we thought. I feel I will still beat 95% of the guys in the division right now and can not wait to get in there with a right hander. I'm hungrier than I have been in awhile to get back on track and show everyone that I am still one of the best in the division.

This fight was just a small step backwards after two big ones forward. Just
like when GSP lost to Hugh the first time and than got a few more fights under his belt and came back to win the belt. I will do the same! Like George said, he was a bit intimadated because it was Matt accross the ring. For the first time ever I kind of felt that way looking accross at Rich but after being in there I should not have felt like that. This loss will make me a much better fighter and I will get right back on track next fight. Once again thanks to everyone out there who is supporting me and cheering for me and I will be back very soon!!

You will get another chance Jason-People who are negative about you losing the fight, won't say the same if it was themsleves in that cage--Your a fighter and a good one at that--Everyone gets their loses, but its how they bounce back from them that shows their character..Can't wait to see you fight in the future-You are a contender just as much as anybody else-Good Luck...Gabriel

He must of hit ya harder then ya think, because it should be UFC 68 aftermath, shouldnt it? lol But in all seriousness, you did well man. I've watched the footage, and I beleive you didnt quit, your corner was just looking out for you. Your still a top middleweight contender for sure, rich is just a monster.

Man you did good! It was definatly a tough fight, And you didnt back down.  When Loiseau fought Franklin he definatly was not comfortable in there, but you didnt show that and went at him like he was just another opponent.  You showed your not going to back down against anybody Dana puts in your way.    Keep training hard man, your representing us Canadians well, can't wait to see you back in the octagon!!

Mr. Jason McDonald, thank you for posting a blog and letting us know what's up.  First, I was very impressed with watching you on the Countdown show.  I'm a boxer that will take up BJJ and you're influential to me.  I've never seen one of your fights, but I HOPE LIKE HELL UFC UNLEASHED PUTS one up very soon so I can record and study:)

I understand and I know you will be back.  Like Matt Hughes said, "Sometimes, if you look at it right, a loss can actually make you a better fighter."  Brother, you're going to be just fine.  I root for you and I am still a fan of yours.  I wish you the best and may you get all what your heart desires.

Glad to see you are in good spirits and realise your potential is yet to be reached. You have a lot of fans that believe in you and win or lose just like you we will not quit.

Oh yeah what was with the story that UFC big wigs were cheering Franklin on?

I was actually picking you to win by submission. But you can't consider a loss to Rich Franklin a step backwards, just  a learning experience. As for your standup, anyone whot thought you  have crappy stand up is jsut a keyboard warrior, and doesnt appreciate MMA striking. Your fight with Ed Herman got me on the bandwagon and I am lookiing forward to your Octagon return, good luck and train safe.

your doing the right thing by keeping your head up, you loose more if you hang your head low. think as this as bump in the road that you can over come, you can beat the best of them and your the man. keep training hard and you will win your up coming fights!!

The last thing you should concern yourself with is what the "haters" are saying - just ask Rashad about that!

And speaking of Rashad: Have you ever met Joaquin Rodriguez, Rashad's boxing trainer?  He's a real great guy and has been training MMA fighters for quite some time.  I'm sure he'd be glad to help you out any way he could.

But hey ... everything's getting wide open in the UFC, with every belt but one changing hands recently, some multiple times (and Chuck Liddell could very well be next).  It's real crowded at 185, and you've got as good a shot as anybody if you keep at it - and you're with the right people (Greg Jackson) to help you along.

Best wishes, and looking forward to better things in your next fight.

We here at Dark Day tattoo and piercing are big mma fans and while we were watching we thought that you were holding your own and I think it surprised Rich a little. It is all about getting back in there and learning. Good fight can't wait to see you in there again. Hopefully we will see you at the shop too.

Hey Jason,

Loved your two previous submission victories and was rooting for ya on Saturday. Franklin really is a great fighter despite how he looked against Silvia. Keep working on your takedowns and stand up - you can definately take a punch! All great fighters learn the most from their losses - looking forward to seeing you again in the octagon - I think you match up well with Anderson and could beat him on the ground.

Whos next?

Just wanted to say that after watching your two previous fights I had become a great fan of yours!!  I was disapointed to hear that you and Rich were fighting eachother though due to him being my favorite MMA fighter.  After the loss, I still feel the same.  I saw that you gave it all you had and in no way do I take away anything for your corner throwing in the towel and I just wanted you to know that although I was torn, I am still a huge fan!

You did great against such a tough competitor.  I cannot wait to see you fight again.  Nothing made me happier than to see you kill Chris Leben.  ..:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
