One of our members needs some advice:

"Could someone please answer a question. Do clients prefer, you edit the photos from the shoot, then present them with proofs from which to order. Or just let them buy the whole shoot on a cd, with a photographers release? Thanks guys for your help."

I edit the photos and then allow the customer to view them on my computer. They then have the choice to purchase a CD with copyright to the photos once they've actually seen them. I've only had a couple that actually haven't purchased the CD after that. I do this, because it saves money on purchasing printed proofs and CD's you might not sell. Hope this helps! :)

Actually they will prefer what you offer to them. If you condition them to expect images on a disk that's what they will want. I will say that based on alot of experience you will lose money by giving them the images on a disk in most cases. The only time that I ever really do this is when I do an event lieke a wedding or party or what have you. If you offer images on a disk for portrait sessions you will be losing money.

I edit and then post the proofs online for them to view.

Also....after they have viewed their "proofs" on my computer....the amount of their portrait purchase determines the price of the CD. The more portraits they purchase from me, the cheaper the CD becomes. If they just want the CD, then they will pay full price for it....which would be something you would determine on your own.

I definitely agree with the others...don't allow them to just have the CD without making some sort of purchase first...otherwise you'll have stolen work.
