One of our members needs some advice:

"QUESTION:
I MEAN THIS IN NO BAD OR UGLY WAY!
WHAT ARE SOME GOOD TIPS TO TAKING GOOD SHOTS OF VERY OVER WEIGHT BRIDES AND GROOMS? I WANT SO BADLY TO MAKE EVERYONE OF MY BRIDES LOOK THERE MOST BEAUTIFUL ON THAT DAY...
SO, ARE THERE ANY TRICKS OR THINGS i SHOULD NOT DO?

THANK YOU"

(I think this question would be best answered as if we were asking- Are there certain tricks to shooting people depending on their weight?)

My siter and I were doing glamour shots last night and she dicovered that when she got down on the floor and i was taking her picture from above at an angle, it made her seem like she was 75lbs lighter....I dunno how it did, but I think it was because she was lifting her chin to look at me and that created a shadow on her neck that made it seem like her double chin (sorry Jenn) went away.

I will show you below what I mean and you will see..this is un-edited.

2. the shot I took from above

I'd do the same thing. I learned the from myspace angled photos. I noticed bigger girls at my school look smaller from a higher angle, it hides a double chin and makes the face look slimmer. Just don't get a too extreme angle. :)

yeh. i would say that is a great way to try it. i notice just takin pics of myself, if i hold the camera up and i'm lookin at it, i look thinner.. as oppose to holding my chin down.

i would think to have them hold their heads/neck a bit straight too.. that might help some.

good luck

I have to give this big tip with a plus size bride...watch the arms when you are posing them. I have seen some photos where the girl looks pregnant based on how their arm is posed. If you compose the photos correctly, doing more of just at the waist or right above and on up...along with using angles, you should be good to go. Most importantly, make the bride feel as comfortable as possible.

I suggest looking at websites that sell plus size gowns to get an idea of angles, poses, etc. Here are some suggestions:
www.plussizebridal.com
www.sydneyscloset.com

Good luck!

It might take a bit longer to set up the shot....so keep that in mind. Take your time and position her or his head just the way you want it. My secret is to make sure the photo doesn't depict a double chin. You would be amazed at how slimming that alone is. I also find that side shots following the jaw line with your position being slightly higher than your subject to be very helpful as well. The jaw kinda creates this image that this is where the face stops! I hope I am explaining this well! Its really about positioning the head.

As for the body...focus on her best assets in the dress and be careful where you place her hands....for us busty babes when my arms are positioned straight down they make me look like a bull dog cause I cant lay my arms flat as the girls get in the way.

For really self conscious girls, Ive don't things like had them lean against a tree or a wall...or sit on a bench and look over it...or hide behind things in general. It sounds cheesy but it really works. Check out my album labeled 2007. My friend Erin is in there and we worked on several things to help her feel less self conscious with angles and objects.

I practice angles on myself...so when I go to set someone up for a pose its a little easier to get exactly what I want. If you are slender then perhaps you may have a friend or post a want ad on myspace for a bigger girl and/ or guy to do some practice shooting on. Compensate them by offering a CD of a few of the better shots. Ive done that before and it hasn't been a loss to me at all!
