One of our memebers needs some advice:

"Everytime I sign up for a gallery or I submit artwork, it seems I always need a short biography.  I'm not good at writing these things.  I feel I should write it in 1st person (autobiography), but I see other people's written in 3rd person.  I always feel like whatever I put down is disorganized and clumsy.  Any suggestions as to a good format?  Thanks in advace."

There’s really no wrong format for your Bio. All you need to do is keep it in third
person, short as possible and appropriate. Show who you are as a person to begin, then brag about your work and passion for photography. Good Luck =]

I think you can write in either the 1st or 3rd person. I think it all depends on what you have to back up your 3rd person writing. I went with the 1st person on my bio, as I wanted my brides to feel that it was me directly involved in the passion of my photography, but a lot of the big name photographers out there use the 3rd person, they also have the reputation to back it up. On my website, I wrote my "style" in the 3rd person, as I felt for me it did not have to be as personal. check out my website: www.dlynchphoto.net it may help.

I always thought writing in first person makes it more personable instead of reading a press release about a company. Highlight why you got in photography, years of experience, any achievements or published worked, and your favorite subjects. Keep it short and simple to read. I also suggest emailing it to a couple of good friends to review it and see if it looks good and they understand what you are saying.

Good luck!
