One of our memebers needs some advice:

"Hello,

I have a question that I would like help with.  I currently use a Nikon D40x - which I love.  I have uploaded some of my pictures to websites like photobucket and myphotoalbum.com to purchase prints of my work.  When I do this, I get warnings saying that I don't have enough resolution to make a quality print.  My questions is that how do I increase my resolution?  I've shot pictures in RAW and still it's not enough.  Is this something I need to do in photoshop?  I'm so confused...my camera is a 10mp.  Please help if you can.

Thank you,
Arielle"

I can tell you that i have used winkflash and gotten the same warning. I went ahead and ordered anyway, knowing that my 10 mpx should be plenty...they came out great! They were 16x20 prints. I knew i was taking a risk that they might not come out great, so i only ordered a couple at first. Hope that helps!

Just a side note - I would try sites like mpix.com to get the best quality.

I would try other sites for my print orders if I was having that same problem. I doubt it is you or your camera. It is most likely the site or something in the internet contection. Also, try shotting in your largest JPEG file format on your camera. That might have something to do with it, I don't know. Good luck!

Thanks for the help...This is my question - could it have anything to do with cropping my images? I think I'll try the other websites as well. Before wedding season gears up - I need to get this issue under wraps!!

Thanks again!!

Arielle

if you crop it alot, then yes. If you do some minor cropping it shouldnt effect it too much.

Christi you made perfect sense.

What size of prints is Arielle trying to print out? Im curious. Technically speaking, 10MP will start losing quality once you start blowing the picture up past an 8x12 (roughly). Not saying that you cant, or shouldnt print larger. But when you look at the prints closely, you may notice some loss of detail, but standing 5 or 6 feet back you would never notice.

INcrease your DPI setting with your photo prgram. IM shooting with a Nikon D1 the very first professional Digital camera from NIKON was only 3mb. So many people laughed at me from AOL special interest " Photography " Chat room. when I told them that a friend gave me his old digital camera for Christmas. They all said You can not get enlargements from this camera . Due to it being only 3 mb.

I said wait a minute. How can that be? Nikon made this camera to be for professional. In Fact it was known as the NIKON F6 and the price was over $5,000.00 when it first came out.
Would NIKON make a camera that wont allow a Professional Photographer to blow up prints?
NO Way. So I did some test prints.
I change my DPI settings to a higher dpi.. LIke DPI 350.
and then crop it for a 16x20 poster or 24x30 poster size print and then send it to the lab.
The quality came out great.

As long as you change the DPI your images will look fine.
IM still using the Nikon D1 and that camera has made over 200 poster size prints already.
