One of our memebers needs some advice:

"I have a 18mm-200mm nikon lens. I'm getting a d80 in a few days. Which will be my second camera for shooting weddings. Any suggestions for what lens to get? Thanks!"

Your first lens should be a 17-55 f2.8 with IS don’t be cheap here it will make the photo also forget the D80 and jump up to the D300 or better the D3 don’t forget a bracket for your speed light you want to shoot pro get pro equipment

I personaly shoot Canon but Nikon is good too

I'm a Canon person myself, but I also sell cameras. I believe for the price the D80 is a great choice. I've had a chance to play with it and it's pretty nice for those who don't quite have the funds to spend twice as much on a D300 or even more on a D3. I would hit up some forums to see what other people are saying as well. Just Google Best Nikkor lens for wedding photography. I came across one on photo.net that had alot of good information.

I do believe one of the lenses you should consider and it's priced between $250 and $300 is a 50mm f1.4. You do have to move around alot, but it's great for indoors and low-light situations and the depth of field is pretty nice. Another cool thing about that lens...you can get some great shots without using a flash. I know several photographers who get some great results with that lens....and you can't complain for the price!

FYI The acronym for stabilization in Nikkor lenses is VR which stands for Vibration Reduction.

Have fun with your new camera and good luck on your lens research.

okay in all seriousness, there are a few lenses i think are key to have in a wedding set. you have the 18-200 which is important, i also feel that having a really fast prime and a fish eye are important to, the prime more than the fisheye. i admittedly don't know a lot about nikkor glass, but i have the canon 17-85, 85mm 1.2, and 15mm fish, which covers most of the things i need to be able to shoot. hope this helps.

My friend and I just signed up to shoot our first wedding (we'll be shooting as a team) this July, so this subject grabbed my attention. Funny thing is...she just bought the 17-55/2.8 and I use the 50/1.4...2 lenses that were mentioned here already. I honestly think, if you can find a camera shop that offers a good deal on the 17-55/2.8, go with that one. My partner just bought hers at our favorite local camera shop for $1100, which is the best price I've seen. Good luck to you.

Photobucket D300 (best camera on the market for the price) & MY D70. I have to agree with the assessment of using the Nikon 17-55 f2.8 VR In fact I'd recommend the 2.8 lenses over all others period.. You won't be dissappointed in the results! It's what I prefer to use even prior to getting the D300 who's ISO settings still boggle my mind. What I usually shoot at ISO 800 on my D70 I can shoot at ISO 200. And the range 200-3200 ISO range (100-6400 with boost) The 2.8 allows low light shooting without flash and the Vibration Reduction lenses alliviate all movement. I use my 70-200 2.8 VR telephoto at all my concert shoots (very low light) with outstanding results. Once you shoot VR you won't go back to a standard lens. Yes they are spendy, but they are worth every penny!
AND as for the Canon comments just ignore them, they'll go away! LOL I used to shoot primarilly Canon, then I smartened up.
