Who Gives Kudos:

September 13, 2006 - Wednesday

Current mood:  jubilant
Category: Fashion, Style, Shopping
I just wanted to share some pictures from Fashion Week with Malan. These are more behind the scenes things than front of house but they show how much work goes into making these shows look almost effortless

I had 2 1/2 hours sleep on the day of the show and yes there were surreal and ditzy moments as my brain tried to keep up with my hands and feet. I did not get all the pictures I would have liked because after a bit when things began to happen I was sewing again on final this and thats and had my head down working for a lot of the preshow and many moments during the show. Malan is such a wonderful person, sweet and kind and brilliant and inspires in people so much happiness and a will to see the most beautiful things happen and they did, all those wireimage.com pictures are just more proof. In person they were even better.

The models were all very sweet and of course lovely and you could sense they loved being in this show too and when they were dressed and ready they were often moving about dancing and twirling all very pretty and charming and just added to the magical atmosphere.

Rewind a moment not that long ago when things began to arrive at my apt leading to this. I had been in touch with Malan every now and then through the blogosphere since Road To The Runway aired. When BPR posted his message that he needed some help sewing I said I can't machine sew but I do hand-sew and if he needed more help let me know.. and he did and thats how it all happened.

This is what the feather skirt looked like when it arrived,

and if anyone thinks feathers are calm well behaved little things you are wrong. They slip and slide and act up so each one was sewn into the skirt with a pierce through the stem and seam stitches down the sides. I sorted through 400 white feathers grading by size and shape and aligning them in the most beautiful way I could find.. days and many many hours later it was almost done

and final touches were put on backstage and it became this lovely design on the runway and to me she looked like a graceful swan or even a ballerina. Malan's design came to life on her and wow I was truly amazed.

The fringed dress arrived like this:

and after many hours within a few days and nights it became this..

It was heavy from all the stitches and all the beads and fringe and the wonderful model made it look like it weighed nothing at all. It floated and shimmered like it was made of ice and when people applauded it on the runway I almost started crying.

The day was a swirly blur in some parts, intense activity in others and in all incredible.

This has been for me so wonderful, not just for the experience but also the people I have met. Malan has proven dreams come true and even when someone says No you will never do that, you can and will.
Its is sad we didn't get to see more of Malan on PR but the adventure is only just beginning for him and only more beautiful things to come :)

Other little things.. I saw Angela (she was cute she said yes you can take my picture but I haven't figured out all that stuff like whats my best side! and btw she is as tall as the models!)

and the famed Ninagarcia and Emmett there, I did not stay for Daniel's show (sorry too sleepy!) but was there when he arrived early to begin his prep and he looked wonderful and was so happy and was dancing around doing a bigger version of his famous shuffle he kept smiling at everyone it was very cute he was full of this boyish glee. Also saw one of the ANTM girls, the one who had a fight with Eva in Japan.. she looked just the same as she did on the show tall pretty and serious. :)

Empty

There was a car in the room!

Deciding the order

Shoes waiting

Starting to do make-up

About to do the rehearsal walk in pins and curls

All the sudden the room filled with cameras and people

Familar faces and preparations

The room and audience and all those cameras at the end

:) :) :)

9/11 The very sad and solemn day will never be forgotten but its very nice to know that "they" did not accomplish what they wanted to, this city still creates and thrives.

Thank you so much for this fantastic look behind the scenes.  I had no idea how these dresses were made, I guess I just assumed they went right from a designer's head to the model (not really), but, to see the raw materials transferm to dress was great!  So, thanks again.  These outfits are beautiful.  CONGRATULATION MALAN!!! I was also sad to see Malan leave the show early too and I felt like he got a bum wrap, regarding how they dipicted his personality.

What a wonderful fairy tale that you got to become a part of Malan's personal history like you did by helping him.  Have a great day!!!  Christa

I'm also very pleased for Malan.. he left WAY too early but I'm thrilled he's doing so well.  He deserves it!

WOW! What a great story! I can't tell you how happy it made me to think that in some very, very small way that I may have helped to make this happen for you and for Malan. Seriously, I'm in tears at the thought of how beautiful this all is. You did such a fantastic job.

Oh no! ...I'm not renouncing your participation, but simply the fact that due to my lack of internet proceeding the week prior to the event, I wasn't at all informed of your attending! How sad! We could have met up in the down time and had a charming chat. Leave it to this frazzled fop to be in too much of a tizzy to even realize until later. I was in attendence as well, as the invitations were of my design. It would have been wonderful to be able to speak with others involved in the production that was, I must say, absolutely gorgeous. The fringed dress was a dream brought to life on the runway, and those tears would be well accounted for. How lovely!

Perhaps however, we'll have another chance at a grander show yet to come to meet at last. Cheers to Malan, yourself, yours truely, and all the designers showing their visions to the world this fantastic fashion week!
