Hey everyone!

So, here are some pix from the No on 8 march that took place in W Hollywood last night! At first I was afraid of going because of the decision that came down yesterday not lifting the ban on same sex marraiges. But, Bob, Pauly, and myself decided to add our voices to the cause and we were glad we did.

It is pretty unreal that in 2009 it is an issue still. When you see the leaders of our area also outraged, and all of the people both gay and straight taking to the streets, at least the gay community knows that someone cares. That's why I was there. To say - OK, so - our government is stuck in a time warp but, at least your neighbors want you to have all your hearts' desires.

One man spoke and said that it wasn't his goal to show the world that his family was different and make a spectacle of being gay. On the contrary - he wants to quietly go about his business and devote himself to his family.....

.....And, no one has the right to dictate what makes a family. Last time I checked, it was love.

Enjoy the pix and have a great day : ) Deb

Deborah, the reason this is an issue is that the Bible condemns homosexuality, and there are (thankfully!) still plenty of people in this country who accept the Bible as the inspired, infallible, inerrant word of the living God. I am one of them. I know for a fact that you have at least one other fan who shares that belief, and you recently gave her a shout-out on the front page of your website for helping promote your latest movie. To say "it is unreal that this is still an issue" or that the "government is stuck in a time warp" is an insult to her, to me, and to the millions of other Americans who love God and obey His Word. If you consider it unreasonable to trust the Bible, you should at least give a reason why you think so. But the Bible has been repeatedly proved to be the most reliable book in the history of the world, by all the tests of historic reliability which are applied to all ancient books. You have starred in at least one play that was derived from it (Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat), so it can't be that bad. (The story of Joseph is found in Genesis chapters 37-50.)
If you find it insulting that we won't accept homosexuality as normal, we find your attacks on our beliefs just as insulting. You have the right to free speech, and to express your support for your beliefs, but not to insult those who disagree with you. Please remember that you insulted at least two of your fans with those comments.

As a NORMAL, educated, GAY man, I found parts of your post and parts of the next offensive. I don't have to believe your way, nor you mine. BUT you also have no right to say a segment of society (I belong to in this case) is not normal, unless you are the standard, and I don't see Brian or Patty, or Chris, or Deborah or whoever else listed under the definition of normal in the dictionary. Women and blacks didn't meet white mens standards for hundreds of years, but that didn't stop them from achieving equal rights, and that is all gay people want. It just pisses me off that right wingers go around wielding their bible, beating people over the head, blowing up abortion clinics, like this is the way, the blood of Christ or you all are damned to hell, just because that is the way that YOU see things. When all of the passages I listed is used personally attacking me, and not one of them say homosexual, gay, or fag. They are written litterally I believe so each person can interpret however they want. You can find racism, sexism, and homophobia if that is what you choose to look for, as well as to propogate, I choose not to. I've been to these churches. I've seen black people turned away at the door for the color of their skin, seen the pamphlets telling the entire congregation God wants you to vote this way, Republican, women turned away because they had pants on, and yes I see it all as very old and out dated. You also said in your last response to mine, I am foolish. I did not call you or Patty foolish or any other name, that's out of my character, besides I'm older and wiser. I suppose I could be foolish for not believing everyone who doesn't think or see things my way is lesser than myself. In that case yes I am definitely very foolish, and proud to be so. I really don't have time for a debate, like I previously stated, but you pushed my foolish button so congrats, you got 1 more post out of me here. According to your last passage, we are all sinners, so I guess we are all going to hell anyway, so I really don't know why I am giving you a minute of my time to begin with. This is not even about religion. Bottom line it is about I should be able to go to the hospital with my partner, share insurance with them, have the same basic rights with my other half, just as you do if you have one, or anyone else. Again, I want to personally thank Deborah for standing up for that. If you disagree, so what? It's none of your business, and nothing to do with your religious preference anyway, obviously. That is what this is ALL ABOUT.

Chris, have you noticed that you are just as passionate about your support for this issue as we Christians are in our opposition to it? You're just as willing to fight FOR this issue as we are AGAINST it.
What about homosexuals who have invaded churches, disrupted services, and destroyed property there? If you wish to condemn those who bomb abortion clinics, you must answer for that also. I am a pro-life activist; I do not condone such activity, nor does anyone with whom I am associated.
I Corinthians 6:9-10 DOES mention homosexuals; it says they will not inherit the kingdom of God. That means they will go to hell. Your statement that none of those passages condemn homosexuals to hell is therefore mistaken.

Deborah,

thanks for trying to explain yourself . I know the gay community gets bashed alot but just "Miss California" -(straight )got slandered by the people in general espically gay community for expressing her thoughts on what she feels marriage should be. The thing is people don't want someone accusing them of bashing opposite sex marriages/families but they turn around and do the same thing.

For example I had a co-worker that once told me the child protective services came down on them about "expected abuse" when the parents were asked by the CPS "do you spank you child ?" the parents said yes and the parents turned around and asked the CPS the same question and the caseworker said "yes" and the parents said end of story!!!

In other words -people reguardless of sexual status -straight,gay,bi or whatever need to no worry about what others think about the way they feel.

In fact I have 2 sisters -one that has had in past years "sexual relations" but is straight now and has 4 beautiful children but the other sister is bi.

The way I feel about the whole gay thing is that if GOD wanted 2 males or 2 females togather he wouldn't have made the other sex. GOD would have created only women or only men from the very beginnin. It was PEOPLE not the government that changed the way sex is practiced.

I know I see men/women trying and some do basically make out in public but I notice that alot of gays in general (not all) act so much different in public -more like they are acting when they are making out or just being out in general public - in front of people.

Deb with what you last said -"what makes a family. Last time I checked, it was love. "

Yes your right family- is the love that is within the family just like i may live in a house but my home is where my family and i live and share time and memories

When know in order to have children -you have to donors 1 male and 1 female. But you don't have to have sex anymore to make a child. Just like anyone can be a dad or mom but it takes special people to be a mother or father.

I still will love my friends and family if they choose to be with same sex but doesn't mean I have to like it.  Just like with me being one of your fans -other people might think I am crazy for being a fan but the way I feel "if you dont like her then don't listen or look at her."

I know recently you posted in your video blog about finding god and always loving god just remember Deb this is one thing that GOD total goes against and it is said that alot of people that are publishing bibles these days are leaving that out.

I have been a fan for 20 + years and always want to keep it that way no matter what you do.

Thanks for readin,

Patty

Good for you Deborah! Equality is what this is about...not religion.Altho I have to admit I find it humorus when people debate this topic or condem those who stand up for it ,such as you....and bring up theater productions you have been in such as Joesph....

A good portion of the Theaterical population tends to back this topic,as a portion of them are gay themselves.I would have to be curious as to thier desires to be treated as equal, while portraying various relgious figures in a play makes them any less biblically correct or not,in the eyes of those who tend to bring that stance to the topic of course.

my personal thoughts are tho,IF straight people can barely keep a marriage together...whats the worst a gay couple can do?Its noones place to choose who you should or shouldnt be with. The law is supposed to be blind not ignorant.

If disagreement qualifies as condemnation, then everyone here is as guilty as me and Patty. It also means that condemnation is inevitable, and you should make sure you are condemning what needs to be condemned.

The government shouldn't be involved in marriage at all.  Gay or straight, it should be civil unions for everyone and marriage should be left to the religions.

Dear Deborah,

Thank you. I know that this is a very sticky topic for most people, but it's amazing that you care enough to support your fellow Americans. As I've already read in the comments to this post, there are many people out there who are very divided over this issue. So you can imagine how I feel being a Christian and a gay man. It's very hard when the people whom you've grown up with worshiping the God you love suddenly turn on you because you fell in love with someone that they don't approve of. I believe that God IS love. And in my heart and SOUL, that's all that matters. Whatever the government chooses to call it, in my heart it will be a marriage when I finally find that one true person for me. But in the mean time, I want to thank you for putting yourself on the line for us. I know that you have probably lost some fans because of this, and I am truly sorry for that.

You have been an inspiration to me from the very first time I heard "Shake Your Love" all the way through the Broadway album and beyond. Your music, your talent, your very essence continues to give me strength in and out of the music world. And now you have given me even more suport in my personal life. I cannot tell you how loved I feel at this moment because of people like you. And, call it hokey, I know that this love comes from God.

I hope that you will continue to share the positive aspects of this experience with those who may be hesitant to to speak out. And to continue to give voice to others who have none. You are a strong voice of encouragement and I thank you for everything you do.

Sincerely,

Greg

Thank you for standing up for us Deborah!
The fact is God loves all his children, and according to the bible Genesis 1:27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.)
My main question to any of you slinging religion around and slapping your bibles, is why would anyone choose to be gay?
Being gay is not a choice or a preference. It isn't for me to tell you whether you are straight or not, and frankly is none of your damn business what my preference is either. I know I was created this way by God. I would prefer my life to be a whole lot less stressful and to be able to call myself straight, but it is not in my comprehension, so damn me to hell if you want to. I have a family, my mother, father and brother all love me and I love them. I have straight friends and they love me too, and I love them all. The fact is there are parts of the bible you want to say God condemns fags, but that's not so, why would he create them to condemn them? Man's vague interpretations over 3,000 years simply doesn't stand up. Mary Magdalen was wrote off as a whore throughout time by mans' interpretation, but the truth is she was every bit or more of a saint, as Matthew and John and was one of Jesus' closest allies.
While I'm at it:
Genesis 19: Sodom and Gamorrah
The men of the city ask for the male angels to be handed over to them so that they can rape them. God destroys the city because of their sin.
This was not the only sin the people of these cities were comitting. They were committing so many sins, that the cities needed to be destroyed.
Nowhere does it say that the homosexuality of these men is a problem. They wanted to rape the angels. That is a terrible sin whether they are male or female.
This passage is obviously NOT clearly anti - homosexual. No one ever mentions Lot offered his daughters up as sex slaves also according to this same passage, and this is considered righteous?

===

Leviticus 18:22
"Thou shalt not lie with mankind as with womankind; it is an abomination."
The Levitical laws were restrictions on the lives of ancient Jews. Jesus throws out these laws in the New Testament. Leviticus is the same book that forbids the eating of ham or pork. These rules don't apply anymore.
This verse is not very clear. It obviously doesn't prove that homosexuality is a sin.

===

Romans 1:26-27
"For this cause, God did give them up to vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise even the men, leaving the natural use of the woman burned in their lust towards one another"

Lust is a sin. Homosexuals don't have to lust. This is God's punishment on these people for the sin they had committed, that is clearly stated. They were heterosexuals, who suddenly lusted after their own sex, possibly losing attraction for those they loved, or breaking vows. Nowhere does it say "Homosexuality is wrong or fags are going to hell."

===

I Corinthians 6: 9 - 10
This verse lists unrighteous acts, and in some of mans translations, homosexuality is mentioned. In the King James Version, it says "fornicators". Some translators wrote "homosexuals". The literal translation from greek is "promiscuous men". Homosexual is added by mans interpretation.

I have read the bible, and I choose not to invoke hate from it on anyone (Matthew 7:1 Judge not, lest ye be judged). I choose to use it to guide myself through this harsh world.
(Ecclesiastes 5:1 Keep thy foot when thou goest to the house of God, and be more ready to hear, than to give the sacrifice of fools: for they consider not that they do evil.)

I don't have time for any debate, this is simply my response to the ignorance I've read here and people who have no right using the bible and religion in the name of their own inbred, and internal hate.

"In Adam's fall we sinned all." The alphabet used to be taught in public schools with lines such as this, taken from Biblical themes. This is how A was taught.
If you are attempting to teach that homosexuality is inborn, the Biblical response is, so what? All sin is. You have simply re-discovered the Christian doctrine of original sin, based on these verses:
Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned. . .Romans 5:12, NKJV
For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners. . .Romans 5:19, NKJV
If you want homosexuality to be accepted on the basis of its being inborn. . .did you consider that aversion to homosexuality might also be inborn? Most societies throughout the history of the world have condemned it; in many places it still merits the death penalty. This constitutes a powerful argument that aversion to homosexuality is also inborn. This means you have no right to condemn those who oppose it, and also brings me to my next point. You would be guilty of violating Matthew 7:1 also, if it means you cannot judge people for doing things that are wrong. It does NOT mean that. The best commentary I have ever read on this verse comes from St. Irenaeus (AD 180):
The meaning is certainly not that we should not find fault with sinners, nor that we should consent to those who act wickedly. The meaning is that we should not pronounce an unfair judgment on the dispensations of God, because He Himself has provided for all things to turn out for good, in a way consistent with justice. (Against Heresies, Book 4, Chapter 30, Section 3.)
To respond to some of the other foolishness you wrote:
“Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled." Jesus, from Matthew 5:17-18, NKJV. This means you are incorrect that the Old Testament Law was completely done away with. Most of the laws in it, including the dietary laws, are simply good health regulations. The foods listed as unclean ARE, in fact, unhealthy. These laws will be in effect during the 1000-year reign of Christ (coming soon!).
Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. I Corinthians 6:9-10, NKJV. Thus, Chris, you are incorrect that homosexuality was added later as an interpretation. Both heterosexual and homosexual lust are condemned in these verses.
Lot's offering of his daughters was NOT considered righteous. It is true that he is described as a righteous man in I or II Peter, but that doesn't mean this action was right; it wasn't! David was called a man after God's own heart, but his adultery with Bathsheeba was still a sin. Everyone sins; people who are described as righteous get those labels on the basis of the overall pattern of their lives, not from any one action. Both the actions of the men who wanted to have sex with the angels, AND Lot's offering of his daughters, were sinful.
Please show me one thing either Patty or I said that is either hateful or ignorant. I have read much more hate from your side than I have from ours; in fact, I didn't read any in ours. Deborah accused us of being in a time-warp, and expressed shock that this was still an issue. I was explaining to her WHY it was an issue, as was Patty.

Thank you Deb,
It's great to see that some people really do care. I have seen in NY alone that Its ok to have a child out of wed lock, and never marry the father is ok. But to people who love each and want to spend the rest of their lives together cannot by society standards. but its ok to teach our kids that having babies with someone you dont love and are never going to be with, is ok.
This is going to be a fight for years to come. But I pray that its not. Because I want to marry my partner.

Keep up the fight.
