I haven’t posted anything in a while because despite getting really excited that people read my blog I have started school and now have no time to post. Except for this short school related post to keep you all knowing I still exist even if only at a student level under a pile of paper and books. Actually, no paper and few books because I’ve moved to a mostly online system which is what I’m going to talk about.

First I’d like to say that my school is brilliant, I love it, the teachers are great, the students are great. While IT is definitely the aspect of school I dislike most (they make us use IE6, a fate worse than death) I have been successful in setting up a website for the ancient history students so we can all share information and sources, band together to do well in a supportive environment that the school is so good at creating. The ancient history teacher (who is awesome) is part of it, everything is great. I’ve also for ancient kept my complete bibliography and important research questions and things online so I can access them anywhere. I used Google notebook for this because I figured even the appallingly out of touch workers at Education Queensland surely wouldn’t block Google.

This my dear friends is where I was much mistaken. So tomorrow I will have to track down the IT head of department to try and get my assignment unblocked. The website I set up for ancient is also blocked, but it is a Wetpaint server so more likely of the blocked nature. But Google Notebook? What on there could possibly be worth blocking?

I guess I should have remembered that EQ blocks anything to do with religion- an especially useful step to make sure we all failed our assignments on ancient religion last year, almost anything to do with violence (although you can read about horrific serial killer/rapist/torturous) and, oh yes, the renewable energy webquest that is the sole basis for a year 10 science assignment. The task sheet says go to this website to do your assignment, but the EQ firewall says “Stop”.

Yeah I love my school and they make sure I can get the best possible education, just a pity the government is doing an excruciating job to make sure I can’t.

I’d love to keep ranting about how hopeless the government is, but I’ve got a significant amount of homework I can finally do now I’m on an ISP connection.
