ok... Here's my own little list of why I think Long Island is fucked up (the ones I missed on my profile):

- When you look at someone and smile, completely out of goodwill, they look at you like a weirdo.

- The only place where people walk on Long Island is the 30 feet from the parking spot to the store/restaurant/bar, and people still wait for a spot closest to the place because they are too lazy to walk an extra 15 feet.

- Oh yeah, people do some walking in malls too.

- People on Long Island still discriminate against blacks, spanish, and asian people. Not just jokes, but really still say words like Nigger and how people on Long Island think that all black people are poor and out to rob them. Then the same people turn around and listen to rap written and made by black people. Just shows how fuckin ignorant and sheltered you are. Surprising that people who lives in a place that is about 35 miles from New York City still are as dumb as a redneck hick.

- People who can't go anywhere alone. People on LI must have someone to accompany them to anywhere, the gas station, the mall, or to the fucking bathroom... And im not talking about just girls. Yes, guys have to go to the bathroom with another guy around here too. Grow some fuckin balls and do some stuff by yourself. Be a fuckin grown man/woman. U dont see people in Manhattan beggin a friend to go to the grocery store do you? Yes, people go to the movies, out to eat, out shopping by themselves and it's not an issue. Stop being so dependent on others.

Did anyone mention the 'Strong Island' factor? I am speaking, naturally, of the phenomenon that causes people think that 'Strong Island' sounds much cooler then 'Long Island.' If someone already mentioned this, I apologize... I didn't read the whole page... what can you expect from a fellow Strong Islander with no attention span?

- People in SUV's speeding in a middle of a snow storm, but it's alright because it has 4 wheel drive. - These old bats who are going through their mid-life crisis that go to Gold's Gym and get glammed up to go and show off their new exercise apperal. - Seeing girls that look like their 12, and wearing clothes that I can fit into my pocket for the sake of looking like Brittney Spears. - How fake so many people are around LI. - MEATHEADS!!!!! May I say more... - Stupid people - Everything is far away and you need a car to go anywhere. Mass transit sux!! Even if you want to take a cab home they charge you for how many people you have and they charge you at least $5 a mile. - Hopefully someone it designated to drive home.

People living on the North Shore believe they are god's gift to the earth and that the south shore is worthless. You can have a rich neighborhood, like Merrick located right next to a porr one, say Freeport.

I can't defend myself to this one without sounding like an asshole...

But I don't remember being poor in Freeport. Neither can any of the people from any side of my town that I asked either... but um... YEAH.

-How people can be so frickin idiotic and stereotypical.

How RVC, Merrick, and Oceanside like to put other towns down for no reason... but LOVE coming to those towns for the Nautical Mile Festival.

No one can drive, including myself.

Everyone has an obsession with the Horror House, no matter how much the owners try to change it.

-People love plastic houses here. The cheaper materials your house is made with, the better it is. Hamptons excluded, the inverse is true out there. (Your car however may cost more than your house if possible) -You will hire a landscaper. Even if your lawn is only 10'X10'. You're too busy working 2 jobs to pay for your leased 3 Series BMW to cut the grass. -Being jacked up on steriods, or dressed like a slut while being ridiculoulsy tan aren't requirements for going to most of the clubs here, but don't bother going if you aren't. -Shallowness, Stupidity and Money are the 3 best triats to have if you live here. -You live on an island, you are surrounded by water, yet you can only access the shore in a few designated spots. -14 year olds NEED cell phones. -Respecting your elders means the 60 year old man who accidentally bumps into you as you walk out of the Deli won't get his ass kicked, but you will call him an asshole. And then do a burnout as you drive away in your Mustang. -You're not in any particular hurry, but you will cut off as many people as possible on the highway so you're not "stuck" behind them at a crawling 75mph. -You pay $60 to play golf. You hate golf. -Don't make eye contact while driving, unless your car is so much better than theirs and you want them to know it. -You can pick up chicks by reving your engine and making eye contact at a light (or at least you still think so even though it's never happened for you) (I don't get it, my car's better than hers....) -Pounding Bass. In a cheap nissan with spinners. Or in a 54k brand new caddy with spinners and a 16 year old at the wheel.

- Every single drummer is already in a band by the time you ask one if they want to be in a band. - No 'goth' kid has ever heard of Rozz Williams or Christian Death, but they think Marilyn Manson and Slipknot are the 'shit', but really its because of the masks and makeup and they think that makes people afraid of them, despite the fact neither band has any effect anymore, and most people prove it by beating them up despite wearing a t-shirt with some anorexic pasty guy. - If a girl has any self-confidence, artistic ability, or anything that would make a person datable to begin with, is already dating an abusive dipshit who will squander any possibility they have of making themselves. - Odds are, if you live in a blue collar working town, you're surrounded on both sides by a rich town and a town poorer and shittier than yours is, despite your disbelief. - 17 year olds....who work the same shitty job you do....with cars they cant have bought themselves, let alone insurance costs. - College? Why need that when theres a perfectly good trade school mere minutes away from your house! Hey! How about the military? You're not going to be anyone anyway, so why bother trying? (And yes, I realize the irony of saying this even though I posted I'm going to join the Marines.) - "A novel? What the hell is novel?" - "Shut up, Mr. I have an opinion and mind of my own. No one cares. Go kill yourself." - The fact that everyone says they hate their school, but once the pep rally comes around, everyone is the biggest supporter of their high school, despite the fact the football team has never won a game. - The only difference between the poor side of town and the 'rich' side of town is its proximity to the next town over. - If you're under eighteen, you're considered retarded by most people. Despite the fact most people over eighteen have proven that mental retardation isnt exclusive to the kids who ride the short bus in school. Everyone is special.

ok, this is really old, but whatever, cuz i just read it....

But reminds me of my old hs -- and no, deer park is not the only school to not win, lol.... I went to Mercy out in Riverhead, and yeah i think the entire 4 years i was there, we might have won 1 game, lol.... But us cheerleaders always supported our team, lol....

And yeah, ironically the team thats won since 1992 is the public school i would have went to -- Bellport, haha.... Or at least I think it was

whats wrong with holding the door for someone 25 ft. away, its better than some of these jerks that throw the door closed infront of you. Iam sick of seing kids that havent been taught right from wrong from their parents who are to busy at the office. So instead of raising their kids they let the T.V do it for them. That drives me nuts. But not nearly as nuts as when kids boss around their parents and dont give any respect to anyone because their parents didnt teach them any respect because they cant hand

I totally agree with the door thing. My parents had always raised me to hold doors open for other (especially older) people, but I never found anyone who really did that, save a few older men. WHen I moved down to Virginia, my first day out shopping for apartment stuff, I had 3 different teenage boys hold the door open. You will never see that on the Island... so sad...

The accent I'll forgive. Constantly murmurring to your partner about the stranger next you and their inabilty to acheive your demands for those you wish to see in public I can forgive. I can forgive the endless barrage of "fucks" that intrude a sentence like a cyst in the collective asses of these backdoor monkeys while pilfering a cigarette from the friend that always got. I will dismiss the obviousness that the world's elite competitor's in the events of drinking, smoking, slacking/jerking off, staring, snorting, and spending have been assembled in a piece of land that looks like Northeast took a shit. It goes without saying that every person who has driven for five years is officially qualified for NASCAR, demolition derby and the ambulance core, because when you're not picking up a bag, you're stuck in traffic; if you're not speeding while driving a stab wound victim to the hospital than you're just not trying hard enough. I will not forgive the current state of fearfulness of youth and constant need to acquiesce to ignorance just so we're all on the same page. There is no place on the whole damn island that more than 10 people could assemble outside for more than an hour that will not be spoiled by some jerk who thinks that spit of beach or clearing of field must be clear of people at all times or else people will start getting the idea that other people might not want to steal/murder/rape/talk badly about/throw things at everyone else; that we are all generally misunderstood because when there is no common ground to literally stand on, there will be none to find in our words.

Ok, Long Island may have some serious downsides. But I've been going to school in Portland, Oregon for the past 3 years. I've had soem time to reflect and put everythign in a broader perspective. Let me tell you all that Long Islanders do have some positive sides. -for example, although you might not believe it, you are better drivers than almost any other population i've come in contact with. In Portland everyone drives about 25 miles an hour on the highway, and they stop any time a pedestrian is trying to cross a street, even if there's cars behind them and theres still cars going the other direction. like i don't know how to cross a fuckin street! -and food on long island, though expensive, is pretty edible. In the rest of the world there are no delis. there are no diners. THERE ARE NO BAGELS. they have things that they call "bah-gulls", but theyre kind of like rings of french bread. barf. same goes for pizza. And since there's no Italian people in Oregon, it took me a whole afternoon of calling every Italian restaurant in the entire city to find one place that served eggplant parmesian. WTF! -our accent rocks. it's unique. When i was a kid, i thought "flawless" and "ruthless" were opposites: "floorless" and "roofless". come on, any accent that ridiculous is cool. I've actually had guys here tell me it's a turn on. HA! -The weather is great. In portland it rains EVERY DAY. appreciate NY's blue skies, even if it is frigid cold out. -the beach is awesome. You can't actually swim in the pacific ocean, even in the summer. it's too damn cold. -boys on BMX bikes. very cute. -the education system isn't SO bad. in Portland, they vote down taxes and the budget every year. last year, they had to end school in late april because they didnt have money to pay the teachers. -Major League baseball. the list goes on . . . thanks for letting me rant. Oregon's nice, too. but i'm definitely going back to LI when i graduate. Give me the LIRR and crazy humidity and the LIE any day. as for crazy japs and guidos and assholes, you'll find those everywhere. but there's very few places to find 24 hour bagel stores . . .

- if you pull up next to a kid at a red light, he WILL gun it when the light turns green. Even if you're turning. - i do agree that theres a lot of good music coming from here, but it doesn't hold a candle to the number of shitty bands around. Go to a show at the Downtown, Village Pub South, Molly Bloom's, etc and tell me otherwise. - you can't understand why your 180+hp sport car gets such crappy mileage. - most people don't think they have an accent because they've never traveled outside of nyc. it is a unique one, and quite gruesome as well. - the accent isn't what bothers me. the language of long islanders is just disturbing. kids say like more then those behind the orange curtain, and they say fuck even more then they say like. (can you blame them? fuck is the only word in the whole english language that is THE F-word.) - guido italian jackasses think they are higher up on the evolutionary chart, and as black or blacker then black people. some of my best friends are black, none of them are blatantly italian. - people will think youre 5-10 years older if you use big words (this might be true everywhere, i've only tested it here). - if you live here, you can't wait to leave. if you're away from here, you can't wait to get back. that was fun.. more to come

- if you live here, you can't wait to leave. if you're away from here, you can't wait to get back. Haha, I agree with this so much. But I don't see why everyones hating on Long Island. You guys don't know how awesome it is here until you leave for a long time. There are some positive things and some negative.... - People on Long Island are pretty easy to talk to. You can go to a bar and strike up a good conversation with anyone. It's not so easy to do that everywhere else. - We have the 2nd (I think, it maybe 1st) highest paid Cops in THE COUNTRY. The next contract Suffolk cops after 4 years will be making $119.000 A YEAR. HOLY SHHNIKES! What do they do? They sit on the side of sunrise with a radar, bust your partys and take your beer, or pull you over and write you a nice ticket. When is the last time you turned on the news and saw "Suffolk SWAT team raids drug house"? Does Suffolk even have a SWAT team? I've never had a problem with the Cops here, when I have delt with them they've been nice. However there is no reason they should be paid that high. - This place is expensive. For shits and giggles, go on yahoo, search for appartments on a beach in south Florida. Miami, or FT lauderdale perhaps. Then, search for an appartment on Long Island, the prices are insainly higher. Then, if you want to have even more fun, do the same thing with houses. - Is there anything else do to but Drink here? - I want elbow room at a bar. - I despise Nicholls (Sp?) road, it never ends. - Long Island has a sense of together-ness I think. That might sound gay but, I think there is definatly Long Island Pride. We're a train ride from the city, we're the part of NY most people from middle country America don't know about. If somebody from out of state asks you where you from and you say "Lawng Giland", most of them won't understand what you said, and alot of them don't know where it is until you add "Lawng Giland New Yorwk". - Growing up on Long Island is awesome! - News 12 is also awesome - Long Islands a pretty small place. I think that is what makes it some what united like I said before. You can be on myspace and somebody talks about The Downtown, Adventure Land, or Sports Plus, and you're like "Hey I know where that is". - What really sucks about this place is the younger generation that grew up here and has grown to love this place probably won't be able to afford it when it comes time to go out on your own. It's just too expensive.

Jeffrey, I definitely agree with you.  L. I. is great!  People really don't appreciate it till they've left for a while and then miss it like heck!  They take it for granted.  It's the "you don't know what you've got till it's gone!" story.  I grew up in L. I. and have moved back and forth several times.  I've been up north where the people are as cold as the weather and I've down south where northerners are hated. (heck, ny'ers are hated most everywhere)  Every place I've been has been a cultural wasteland. What can you expect when you grew up around an international city! (unless you move into a big city)  I notice most of the people complaining are young and most likely have never been on their own or out of state.  ATTN ALL:  NO PLACE IS PERFECT!  NO PLACE.  There is no paradise, every place has pros and cons but there's no place like home!

Nah - I evnjoyed it alright while I was there, but I have no plans of going home (to my mother's dismay) save for some holidays to visit family... And it is far from easy to strike up a conversation with random people in a bar - LI has WAY too many cliques. EVen meeting people through your friends at a bar, those people tend to stick to themselves, despite all conversational attempts. I think there's an island wide maturity issue going on...

we smoke a lot here too. like....a LOT Getting off the northern state one night onto glencove road north. The exit ramp is 2 lanes at a stoplight, for those of you who dont know. We roll up to a car in the left lane who clearly has a hand out the shotgun window dumping an ashed bowl, so we roll down our windows to fuck with her. "Hey, looks like you're having fun in there, can we have some?" (car of girls no older than 20). "NOooo, this shit's MINE. Are you a cop? That attitude is pretty prevalent, its always memememe before she even asked about our identity... oh Yeah, and when the light turned green, they chirped the tires like the badasses losers they in fact were...Only on Long Island

In addition to Crimedanch, Ronkompton, and Holbrooklyn, etc...I've heard...Spastic Mastic, Potstead(hempstead), Crackville(farmingville), Crackdale Fuckdale, and Whackdale(farmingdale), and a few others I can't remember at this time.

As for LI...
Is it me, or is every frickin 16 year old out that spoiled little bitches who complain that they have nothing and life is SO hard, when their parents bend over backwards to please them, whether it be with cell phones, cars, or letting them run around in mid january not wearing anything more than a belly bearing tank top, and pair of low riding jeans, and a pair of open toed high heeled shoes that make every 25 year old hoot holler, and go for them??  These kids have NO concept of what it's like to struggle.  I'm 23.  I have lived on this god forsaken island my whole life.  I have been on my own since I was 16.  I have been homeless, poor, unclothed, unfed, alone.  When she was here, my mother worked 100 hour weeks at minimum wage(because that's the only real jobs out there these days), just to put food on the table.  And she STILL made time to spend with me at least a little bit every day.  Parents these days don't care.  Their kids are drinking, partying, smoking weed, or worse, and they wouldn't know because they never ask.

And the only people who say no one can drive is only complaining because some people do the speed limit, not 45 in a 30 and 90 in a 55.  I am someone who does 90, but I know better than to bitch about people doing the speed limit.  Now, the idiots who think it's alright to attempt right turns from the left lane, and vise versus(trust me, they are out there)...now THEY are idiot drivers, along with the tarts on cell phones, the idiots picking their noses like the person in the car next to them can't see them, and the ugly bitches insisting on doing their make-up while driving...IT WILL NOT HELP.

Everything IS too far away, but damn it if I don't love the fact that, even if it's a trek or an expensive cab ride, everything is in the same damn place!

People are rude, most of the time....but, I've had my share of days, when walking down the road, I share a smile, and add a hi, or have a nice day, and get a huge smile in return.

I don't need someone to do it for me, before I'll hold a door open for someone.  If one person shows kindness, it WILL spread.

As for discrimination, yeah...it's rampant on this Island.  And it's not even just white people.  It transcends to encompass everyone.  The names, stereotypes, the hypocritical attitudes...it's everywhere, in every sex, race, creed, and religion.  It's cool to be a lesbian, but it's still uncool to be gay.

Spanish people get the worst flack, but true citizens have no one but their illegal counterparts to blame for that.  I know many upstanding minorities(damn political correctness), but at the same time...the stereotypes are not just labels, people are acting them out.  Look at Farmingville for example.  Great community, until you go by 7-eleven on horseblock road around 7am...and you are bombarded by illegal workers who refuse to do anything until some picks them up, and hassle the women as they go by(I'm a victim of the harrassment.) And not to sound racist or whatever....people who come here SHOULD learn the language, because it's unfair to everyone. I don't want to be told I'm "Caliente"  That's Spanish for HOT....I'm married, thank you.

As for the cliques...there are WAY too many, and no one seems to grow up enough to look at that fact.  Sadly, I belong to my own clique, but it's the saddest one of all.  My social group consists of all of the people who never really fit in anywhere else....the too Emo to be hardcore, the too punk to be goth, the too straight edge to be gangsta, the too poor to be in the rich kids crowd, and the too rich to be in the poormans crowd.  the inbetweeners get the worst flack.  The misfits.  If you don't fit in somewhere, you're the worst.

Not every 7-11 is located on a corner. 2 of them right near my house. Hempstead Tpke. and one on Stewart avenue and 107 in Bethpage both are located in a middle of a street.. But all the ones i have seen besides that are on corners.

IT'S THE SAME WHEREVER YOU LIVE!!!!!!!!! Hi Long Island, I thought I'd drop by and let you know I'm doin' just fine. Florida isn't as bad as you think. Just live in Orlando's suburbs and you'll feel right at home. Well, ALMOST feel right at home. *****It's cleaner here and houses cost less. ****People don't throw stuff at you when you walk down the street like they do on LI. ***I hated when my cars were keyed on LI. **What I do miss is NYC and a later bar curfew. *In Florida curfews is at 2:00, but we get to smoke in the bars. The thing about Long Island is that it's just like every other metropolitain area. Midwest kids and souhern kids say the same shit about their hometowns so don't feel so different. *It's boring (because you live here/there) and threre's nothing to on LI but go to the mall or Sports Plus. **People throw cans at you for riding a bike in Hartford. ***Some kids in Texas will kick you in the mud and call you a fag for being different. ****Children in Florida don't get the good education you do on Long Island. Do you hate the DMV in New York? We all do, especially when you take your car for emissions and they charge you for a diagnostic test just to tell you it's a loose hose and charge you $100 extra. *No Emissions test in Central Florida! **Wait hours in NY to get your liscence at the DMV. ***The trick in Florida is there is no DMV. There are TWO places to wait in line for hours and hours. ** The Tag Agency (1 tag is equivalent to 2 liscence plates) *Liscence Department. Which includes waiting and liscences and tests and rednecks AND minorities. IT'S THE SAME WHEREVER YOU LIVE!!!!!!!! -CRAZY LAWS-CRAZY PRACTICES-CRAZY PEOPLE-BOREDOM -BAD PAYING JOBS-DRUGS- -LIFE-DEATH- -THE FUTILE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS

10-12 year old girls who are driven to the mall by their moms in minivans, who do nothin but walk around, sit at the food court, with no bags, actling like wat they are talkin about has to be screamed to one another. and they constantly look around, hoping to find that SOMEONE, just maybe, might have been glancing at them. And yes, i do use FUCK in everything is say; its impossible for me to go one day without screamin fuck less than 100 times--- MORNING: "hey, buddy, how the fuck are ya?" NOON: "shut the fuck up, asshole" AFTERNOON: "you're such a stupid fuck!" EVENING: "yes, you are fucked up. why do you ask, fucker?" NIGHT: "see you in the fuckin, morning!" Yep, can't go a day without fuckin sayin it-- stupid LI, fuckin screwin me over... Unless you have a car, u can't go or do anything here; all us non-vehicle owners/renters have to sit and wait for someone else to offer to drive us around; which isn't the best idea, cuz who wants to pull up to a party with their mom behind the wheel? plus, ppl who drive under 21 aren't exactly the best drivers; (altho there are some really good drivers who r kids))) but hell, if my friends r willin to taxi my sorry-ass around, i'll b the first one in the car. i just know i'm wearin my seat belt extra tight.

-You have to go to Lone Star in Plainview and buy Sevens and Miss Sixty's even though you cannot afford a God Damn thing. -Hanging out a Dunkin Donuts is still cool- even at age 25. -Every guy has the damn Gotti Boys type hair do and every girl has a tan and blonde highlights. -If you ever went to Nassau Community, you'd see very few chicks (LIKE ME) wearing sweats and pj's to class and see 95 percent of girls wearing stilettos and mini's to class at 8AM in the morning. -The people that wear Louis Vuitton and the best clothes usually take the bus. -The rich kids probably do more drugs then the poor kids. -Most people drive around on a Saturday night with nothing to do and end up at the Diner, DPA or the Pike. -The little MS-13 and Bloods wannabes live in Hicksville and Plainview and God knows what town and call it the Ghetto. -Everyone that lives near New Cassel has gone there to buy beer if they were under 21. -Broadway Mall was THE hangout back when they had the arcade. -You have gone to Ikea just to chill and sit on the couches and make a mess there for no fricken reason.

I live in N. Shirley..and we aren't a part of South shirley or general Shirley and we arent apart of Yaphank, even tho our tax address is East Yaphank now. So in general we are a town on long island that doesnt belong. We're just there, taking up space. =) Aw, give N. SHirley some respect..we are the "Nice part" of Shirley, even tho we dont even belong in that township. But then we are the "crappy part" of Yaphank..so where the hell do we belong.

We say "mad" ex: "Thats MADDD funny."
We use like in every sentence.
On the weekend, your evening consists of seeing a movie, going bowling, or playing pool.
Your distant future might involve the state of Florida.
You can order a pizza pie and a soda and people will understand.
lotta jews.

You have dirt for a lawn and you have couple thousand dollars in rims on your 1992 Nissan sentra.

You think vinyl siding looks good.

Your surrounded by ocean but rather walk the mall in summer.

If you see someone riding a bike you think they got a DWI.

You never walk anywhere, you question the enlarging hindquarters of yours, and you think Atkins is the answer.

You have never been to the Sunken Forest on Fire Island.

You act like the city is 600 miles away.

im from longisland now im in the NAVY and stationed in oklahoma city. yeah navy and oklahoma lol doesnt exactly sound right but theres a reason for it. anyway everyone who thinks longisland sucks is insane and should try moving to some other state where there is nothing around for miles a whole bunch of poor ass people and no ocean. being here or anywhere else but longisland you will realize exactly what is there and how much better it is there. i have been to a few places now and nothing compares with longisland the weather out here in the midwest sucks gets mildly cold in the winter and extremely hot in the summer. having the 4 seasons is a nice thing lol. lol there really isnt anything to do here but drink.

okay, so i always used to HATE long island when i lived there. there was never anything to do but go to shows, go to the mall, and if you happened to have extra money laying around, going to the movies and the city might be an option [but now that prices for the movies- especially at island 16, and tickets on the LIRR have BOTH gone up, going to the movies or city is almost out of the question] so yea, long island is cold, boring, and you can only go to the beach for about 3 months out of the year- if youre lucky. but now that i moved to florida, i miss LI soooooo much!!! i mean granted alot of people from NY move down here... especially in my town of melbourne because its where Grumman relocated to. but its still not the same.

-theres no food. no pizza, no chinese food, no italian bread, no rolls, no deli's, no diners, no bagels, NOTHING. i swear when i first moved here, i lost 15 lbs. nothing to eat. ever. these fuckin rednecks live off of beef jerky and grits. ugh.

-they really cant drive outside of florida. ill be driving on a 2 lane road, and there will be 2 douche bags driving NEXT TO eachother taking up both lanes driving the EXACT speed limit. talk about aggrivating. THEN when they go to make a right turn, theres no shoulders or turning lanes here, so they come to a complete stop on the main road stopping all traffic behind them to make the right turn. sigh. im getting annoyed just thinking about it. oh, and they ALWAYS stop at all stop signs, yellow lights, and even the occasional railroad.

-okay- the speach thing. i never realized how much i say the word "like" ...its insane. or how much i curse. everyone makes fun of the way i talk... or tawk for that matter. but one thing i never realized until i left was we say "ax... i axed him a question" and they say "asked". that one gets pointed out to me all the time. or "she asks me questions" ...nope. NYers say "she axes me questions." its really pretty funny. i never realized it. but then these rednecks down here say shit like "cuss" for "curse". they say "p.e." for gym class, they call the nurses office the "clinic" and writing in script is "cursive". my sisters came home from their first day of school so confused lol. oh, and they wear "tennis shoes" here ...not sneakers. even though no one fuckin plays tennis. OH!!! and if you ever meet ANYONE outside of the state of NY, give them this fool-proof test. write down the words "mary", "marry" and "merry" on a peice of paper, and ask the person to read it to you. they will pronounce ALL THREE WORDS exactly the same. funny shit. yea. NY accents are the best.

-theres no italians here. im lost. oh, and white people who speak perfect english work in 7-11. and every other gas station. and they dont sell those amazing buttered rolls at 7-11. [they dont become amazing until you dont have access to them]

-local music scene is just "okay" here. you actually gotta like, look for it if you want it to be a part of your life. ...unless you live in jacksonville. i was lost for my first 2 years here until i found it.

-no snow. i know its a pain when you need to shovel it, but when you need to go to places where they make fake snow with a machine, you begin to miss it.

-HALLOWEEN HERE SUCKS!!! they actually wait till its dark to go out trick-or-treating, theres no shaving cream, no eggs, no toilet paper, no flower socks, no paint ball guns, no candy stealing [like when dumb ass people leave out a bucket that says "take one" ...psh yea fuckin right] im 21 yrs old, and STILL love halloween... but only in ny. its like, fuckin 85 degrees, and theyre not destructive here at all. its no fun lol. i was so dissappointed! but last year a few ny friends and i showed these floridians how halloween is REALLY done :)

-theres no trains, and other public transportation is scarce. they need a big ass train running from jacksonville to miami. seriously. someone better build this shit soon.

-robert moses beach. the pencil. jones beach theater. need i say more? yea- the beaches here are in use year round, and the water is actually blue but its not the same. i'd take robert moses over cocoa beach any day.

-people outside of ny think ny and nyers are so scary because of what hollywood puts into their heads. but seriously, i was more scared down here than i EVER was in ny. you cant underestimate these rednecks. they all carry rifles and shit in their mudcovered, confederate flag flyin, pickup trucks. they still think the civil war is goin on, and anyone who ever lived north of the "mason-dixen line" should be dead in their eyes. they even have civil war re-enactments here. SO WEIRD. yea. the rednecks are nuts.

ugh. thers so much!!! long island is so fucking amazing. i miss it so much! and when i come up to visit in a few months, someone better throw me a party.

-everyone knows everyone's business and acts like they know squat when they talk to that person
-that whole nextel thing....why do people talk to others on speakerphone but get mad when people over hear and comment
-cops are predictable...i know where 95% of the cops are on 495
-every nationality hates the others but trys to act like them (ie: italian hate blacks but wanna be gangsta; portuguese hate italians but act guido; etc)
-probably one of the only places where people dont know how to drive the car they have (ie: corvettes go slow and civics speed)
-having a rice rocket is cool
-people complain about EVERYTHING
-its an island and they charge you to go on the beach!
-people from queens and brooklyn refuse to believe that they are attached to Long Island
-LAWNGUYLAND... no one can say it correctly
-if you go to a place like texas and say you're from Long Island they dont know that you're from NY (this could be considered a good thing)

You'll miss Long Island when you leave it.....trust me.  Long Island makes the suburbs of EVERY other American city look like the fucking styx.  I live in a San Francisco suburb and the biggest suburbs out here are like the size of Huntington Village....okay maybe I'm exaggerating but fuck, LI is so much more urban than the rest of American suburbs.

Oh and get this, they actually MAKE FUN of the way we say "Orange", "Horrible", and "Oregon".  (Arange, Harrible, Ar-a-gone)  They make fun of our accents and put mustard on everything.  The first time I had a non-Long Island McDonald's cheeseburger I couldn't believe it.

Apparently swearing all the time isn't normal....

I learned all of these valuable facts 8 years ago when my parents dragged me away from Long Island.
