{Update: As of 10: 51 am, Sunday, we are at $1025. Thank you so much. My heart is warmed... so warmed it might catch fire. So warmed that Kim and I were on the phone this morning and I started to cry. You could blame it on hormones, or you could call it a renewing of faith in human awesomeness. You are awesome! You are unbelievably generous and supportive! Yesterday I felt hopeless and violated and today I couldn't feel better about the world. $975 to go to get my computer replaced, and if we find a good deal maybe I can get my kidney back too!}

Van break in on Friday the 13th! A call to fans and friends! :

Yesterday morning, Friday the 13th (I've never been superstitious), I woke up to a $50 parking ticket. I tried not to let it dampen my mood though I'm pretty sure parking enforcement doesn't accept food stamps. I went along with my plans for the day: yoga, computer work for which I had my computer at a friend's house, then I packed up my $2000 new macbook and we headed into San Francisco's tenderloin to see a concert. I, like the fool that I am, left my computer in the van, cleverly hidden under some mattress pads in the back. The concert was Juana Molina and it was totally awesome!

Around midnight we ventured back to our trusty home-on-wheels to find the driver's side window was smashed. My heart raced. I jumped in the van without worry about the pile of glass on the seat and dove for where my computer was stashed. Gone. Not only was my new computer in that bag, but the work I was doing was transferring info from my old laptop, so both my apple laptops were taken along with our GPS and probably other things I forgot that we had in there. All our stuff was upturned and rifled through and there was glass everywhere. It felt so incredibly violating. (Even our "Box of Useful Things", where we keep duct tape, band-aids, and plastic lobsters, was dumped out all over the floor.)

We headed back to Oakland with a trash bag and duct tape window (thank you "Box of Useful Things") and brainstormed places to park where it would be safe without a drivers side window. We parked in a sleeping friend of a friend's driveway with the broken window against a wall, left notes on the door and windshield, and hoped for the best. I slept at my friend's house incase I was called and needed to move the van early in the morning. I curled up on the couch and cried myself to sleep. Its stupid to cry over something so material, but its something I've needed for years and never could have afforded for myself. I only had it for a month. Now both the computers that I use for booking our tours are gone. I don't know what to do other than humbly ask for your help.

The broken window and the GPS I'll pay for the with the money I sell my kidney for on the black market but I need to replace that computer. I need it in order to do my job. My job is booking shows near you. If you want to see us again or even if you don't care but you're feeling generous on this lovely Valentines Day, please help with whatever you can.

The Goal: $2000. I will update this blog with progress reports on the donations. Please help!

Let's turn one of the worst experiences of my life into a heartwarming story! We can do this, I know we can! We have to. I'm doing my part, stapling myself back together after stealing my own kidney, as we speak.

Love,

Zoe Vermillion

I'm sorry I couldn't help! I'm merely a poor teenager who uses the little money she has on music and sparkling champagne! I wish you luck. ..-Claire

Never leave home without the duct tape. I also carry barf bags. I have three children all prone to random barfing. As a nurse you would think that wouldn't bother me, however, I am a sympathy barfer. So, yes, duct tape and barf bags...essential. ..For each messed up person that would violate you so, there are those that love you tenfold.

Your not even bringing Amanda Palmer back to Portland! Well, I sympathized anyway... but maybe its less of a donation and more of a bribe... huh?

Thats horrible! Same thing happend to my car a couple weeks ago but nothing stolen. I'm always lugging my 17" Mbp around with me cuz I don't trust people. I also purchased a lock for the laptop that works kinda like a bike lock. Best of luck with the fund drive. Looking forward to the next show!
